Punctuality is usually considered as a positive aspect when it comes to employee evaluation and punctual employees are usually rewarded with wide and varied rewards. However, many employees in the organization depict a lethargic attitude towards work and are late to work. As a result of which they face many difficulties. The consequence of coming late to work varies from organization to organization and usually, it is observed that organizations that possess a centralized environment are stricter on employees who come late to the office. Similarly, in a decentralized environment emphasis is usually given on work rather than the attendance of an employee. This paper will deal with different reasons as to why employees typically come to the office after the office timings and conclude about their behaviours.
The causes and effects of coming late to the office are wide and varied. It ranges from tire puncture to headache and pain in the back to a fight with your spouse. The effects although are usually the same. For instance, you woke up early in the morning dressed up for your office and you have a presentation in the office. Surprisingly, you came to know that the tire of your car is punctured or your car is not starting. Ultimately, you enter late in the office and miss the presentation which was a crucial one and this negatively affects your performance. This action might result in the deduction of your salary and if you are a new employee then you can even lose your job. In a similar manner, you slept late last night, and as a result of which you woke up late. This would result in going late to the office and ultimately your boss is quite rude and he/she might scold you in front of everyone just because of coming late to the office. Similarly, if checks and balances are not placed in the organization then employees usually depict a sluggish attitude and this decreases their effectiveness. Employees sometimes come late because they don’t like getting early in the morning and as a result of which they face the consequences. Furthermore, individuals might get late because they live far away from their offices and as a result of which it takes a couple of hours to reach the office. They usually don’t plan their journey and ultimately they get late from the office. When they reach the office their superior either insults them and this affects their work.
