Using the information from the reading in week one and the lesson in week two, discuss one or more topics you are interested in. Use the discussion forum as a discussion on material read in the class readings. Discuss points from the reading and provide a reaction. Use the forum to discuss topics as you would in a “live” classroom. The idea is to learn from each other based on reflecting on reading and providing insights. Be sure to cite all assertions.
here is lesson 2
Lesson 2
Modern logistics processes (both forward and reverse) rely on efficient operations to minimize the time required to plan operations and implement plans. Reverse logistics processes start with products that need movement opposite from traditional forward movement.
Reverse logistics begins with an observation that an unusable product adds value to a firm’s financial performance after processing. Additionally, intangible value is added by satisfying customer needs. Reverse logistics disposition occurs after material or products are returned from customers, such as in retail operations, or when equipment is not usable in its present state, as in military logistics.
In the commercial retail, commercial original equipment manufacturing (OEM), and military environments, the disposition process allows logistics personnel to add value through additional processing. Added value may be from creating conditions leading to reuse or to optimize the use of various elements, such as reusing plastics, precious metals, or by extracting other material for reuse.
This week’s reading introduces several terms related to efficient operations and methods for processing products in reverse logistics. Efficiency is the key to adding value. As you read through the material, see the different processes described and how each process has a unique feature. Professionals decide which of the methods offer the most efficient cycle time and apply the techniques. Just-in-time, lean operations, agile leadership, and circular, closed-loop systems are reviewed in the readings.
Customer service is enhanced in companies with efficient, customer-friendly return processes. In addition to the benefits customers receive with efficient return handling, company value is increased with the added value received during reverse logistics processes.
