Steve Jobs: Man Or A Myth?

INTRODUCTION

An American entrepreneur, designer and co-founder of Apple Company Steve Jobs brought an evolution in technology in the past few years. He was born in February 24, 1955 in San Francisco and was an adopted child of Paul and Clara Jobs and his sister, Patti was also adopted later on. As being a smart kid of the family, he graduated from Homestead High school in Cupertino, California, in 1972. After High School, he joined Reed College for one semester though he dropped out after completing his first semester. The Apple company founder has many controversies and myths on his behavior and his fame all over the world. Though creating a company that is outstanding and magnificent, Job’s behavior still remains a question whether it is true that he wasn’t really nice towards his co-workers or maybe out of jealousy or anger, his co-workers said this just to create controversies in this fame life. This will further be explained in this report.

HIS LEADERSHIP AND TRAITS

People who worked with the company showed some negative side of Steve Jobs. Some say that his leadership wasn’t very inspiring as he always got aggressive and would love dominating them to work. He would outburst and give tirades if anyone he saw was going against his commands. As a leader, a person is supposed to act in a way that everyone who works for him should be inspired and impressed by him, but Jobs may have lost some of charm by his aggressive behavior in front of the world. This is what most people who knew him encountered with during his life.

In a research found, the authors Gordon Curphy PHD, Rocky Kimball PHD, discuss about the negative traits of Steve Jobs. They conducted a survey named, HDS Hogan Development Survey which gave a lot of negative results proving that has a very pessimistic attitude towards society. The above table proves, many of the myths that are reported around the world might be true as majority of the individual who know him state that they had faced such situations.

“Some of my very best friends in Apple, the most creative people in Apple who worked on the Macintosh, almost all of them said they would never, ever work for Steve Jobs again,” by Wozniak in an interview in 2004.

THE FAME HE ACHIEVED IN HIS LIFE

It was obvious that Steve’s behavior made people get annoyed and irritated to work with him, the question lies in how did he still gain and maintain his company’s fame.

Steve always envisioned those objects which weren’t even possible to make them come true. He focused on three main simplicity functionality and consumer appeal which any designer would consider but the difference was that he focused on the details of the design as he wanted to make impossible stuffs to be possible. He worked very and wanted his workers to maintain his kind of level.

‘Jobs was a true hero of technology and innovation. It is his drive for excellence in the business and consumer marketplace that continues to inspire me and the way in which I run Optimal Networks. His products speak for themselves. The introduction of the iPad has revolutionized computing as we knew it.’ — Heinan Landa, CEO. REF NO 2

This was said in an interview where they talk about his excellence and his credibility. Despite the fact of his behavioral issues, some people still admire his talent. They still buy his products as his products fulfills people’s necessities. He simplified every design and his outcomes were almost perfect.

LSD

Steve Jobs admitted about one thing that he used to experiment with a drug called LSD in college. It was a psychedelic drug which created hallucinations and powerful mind altering substance. One of his old friend, Daniel Kottke who was also an early Apple employee, did these experiences together.

“Steve and I developed a friendship when we figured out we had both read this amazing book called ‘Be Here Now,” Kottke told CNN, ‘which is about psychedelics and spirituality.’

When the apple company launched, he stopped the intake of this drug as he was giving all his time to his work and keeping his company’s reputation.

HIS DEATH BED

“I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success.

However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.

In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of god of death drawing closer …

Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth …

Should be something that is more important:

Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days, Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me. God gave us the senses to let us feel the love in everyone’s heart, not the illusions brought about by wealth. The wealth I have won in my life I cannot bring with me. What I can bring is only the memories precipitated by love. That’s the true riches which will follow you, accompany you, giving you strength and light to go on. Love can travel a thousand miles. Life has no limit. Go where you want to go. Reach the height you want to reach. It is all in your heart and in your hands.

What is the most expensive bed in the world?

Sick bed …

You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.

Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost — Life.

When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading — Book of Healthy Life.

Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down.

Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, and love for your friends.

Treat yourself well. Cherish others.”

At his last stage of his pancreatic cancer, Jobs realized that whatever had earned from his hard work. All his lifetime energy and the wealth he had gained was useless. He realized that the main important thing in life are people surrounding him and his family. He died on 5th October 2011 at the age of 56.

CONCLUSION

This report shows many aspects of Steve Job’s live. His life has been very successful and gained a lot of wealth. His company still runs in today times, but the talent he had gotten isn’t found in any of the apple workers. He designed everything in detail and he simplified every work of his. People said they weren’t happy while working with him. They said they will never work with him as he being a leader because of this behavior issues. Not only people from his company, but his family had some complaints from him. But at the end, he realized that what he had done was wrong and that he was sorry for everything. He gave us a nice lesson in life that people are important and not wealth because that always vanishes at the end and nothing matters. So in conclusion, though his myths of his behavior are somewhat true but at the end everyone remembers him as a hardworking, talented man.

Reaching An Undeniable Inference, Love And Disaster And Passing In Steve Jobs’ Speech You Should Find What You Love

Steve Jobs made three remarkable stories inside his ‘You should find what you love,’ talk. A story that dialogs about valuing something you love doing anyway then losing it all the while and finding your way back to it. Another taking a gander at arriving at a conspicuous resolution as to finding what you genuinely need to do and starting. At the point when you’ve found what you find what you have to do the ensuing stage is the thing that you will do to start. The last story is about death and how passing can be one strategy for awakening some to start doing what they really love doing before they kick the basin and leaving an engraving with respect to what you have accomplished.

The essential story ‘reaching an undeniable inference’ is displayed after Steve he tells the gathering of observers that, that was the closest he’s anytime been to a graduation. Steve works brilliantly at using ethos, impact and logos in all of his records that he tells. Ethos the interest to persuade the gathering of onlookers that e justifies checking out and reasonable, for this circumstance Steve Jobs draws the thought explaining how this was the closest graduation he’s anytime been to. At the point when he’s said that the gathering of onlookers starts to check out what he needs to state and see how someone who’s never been close to graduating anyway made a significant name for himself. He by then starts by explaining that he had never been a fan of the school he was going to when he recently started going to class. We at that point continue ahead into the technique that he uses assessment when he examines how his mother had put him up for appointment since she required him to have a prevalent future and she understood she couldn’t give him that. Talking about his very own life and how his childhood went solicitations to the gathering of observers earnestly considering the way that no one ever has to know or even say that they were set up for gathering. He by then examines how the family that he ought to get got by never expected to settle the papers since they had found that his mother never proceeded onward from school. That makes the gathering of observers partner with the emotions he was encountering at the time with his talk, he required the group acknowledge what he had encountered to be as productive as him. Logos is used here when Steve Jobs states, ‘you can’t make a conspicuous determination looking forward; you can simply relate them looking backward,’ Steve is thinking canny here he endeavors to make them grasp that not everything will be clear to you when you don’t have the foggiest thought where to start yet to keep trusting in your very own intuition.

The second story he examines love and disaster, he uses impact in this story since he understands everyone has been in a condition where they have lost something they revered. He understands what it looks like to lose something you love significantly, he interfaces with the group in that way. He is essentially guiding them to never give up certainty and to progress forward. Ethos is used in this story since he chats on the accomplishment he had when transformed into the CEO of apple, he talks about how he transformed into the CEO and where everything started. As the speaker he is trustworthy in light of the fact that he was the one that accomplished the experience and can share why keeping certainty is the best idea than surrendering what you love. Logos in this story is used when he says, ‘Similarly as with all of the issues of the heart, you’ll know at the point when you find it,’ Steve wisely thinks and understands that everyone will be lost before you find what you love and once you’ve found what you love doing only your heart will feel it. Legitimately that looks good and he says that with desires for the gathering of onlookers to feel something fundamentally the same as and appreciate what it is to truly acknowledge when you’ve found what you love to do.

The last story talks about passing, Steve Jobs gets resolved to have harmful development and explains that that has been the closest to death. This is the spot power is used, him talking about the moment in his life he was unexpectedly resolved to have pancreatic ailment he interfaces with the gathering of onlookers’ sentiments in disclosing to them that he was told he had harm. He uses logos when he starts to examine following your heart will always matter more than theory you have something to lose is logically predictable because toward the day’s end when you fail miserably you’ll consider all of the risks you didn’t take wishing one day you did. The manner in which he says to continue with your life and not someone else’s is a strong strategy for using Ethos since everyone should consider when they think they need to live others’ lives. You are not bound to live other people’s lives anyway to live and now the presence you are given considering the way that at some arbitrary minute it will in general be expelled without knowing it.

Steve Jobs uses various words and articulations to apply ethos, feeling, and logos to connect with the gathering of observers and have their thoughts. In the total of his records he gives unbelievable cases of all of them three, from finding your way to deal with what you love to losing it to then finding it again and receiving a charge in return while continuing with your life and not others, to talking about passing. It was a mind boggling commencement all around, that regardless of all that it moves various people today.

Steve Jobs’ Life And Leadership Qualities

“Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco, California, 24th February 1955, and put up for adoption.” (https://howlingpixel.com/i-en/NeXT) “As an infant, Jobs was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs and named Steven Paul Jobs. Clara worked as an accountant, and Paul was a Coast Guard veteran and machinist.” (https://www.biography.com/business-figure/steve-jobs) “Jobs is an American business industrialist, entrepreneur, industrial designer, investor, and media proprietor. He attended Reed College in 1972 before dropping out that same year and traveled to India in 1974, seeking enlightenment and studying Zen Buddhism.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs)

“While Jobs was always an intelligent and innovative thinker, his youth was riddled with frustrations over formal schooling. Jobs was a prankster in elementary school due to boredom, and his fourth-grade teacher needed to bribe him to study. Jobs tested so well, however, that overseers wanted to skip him ahead to high school, a suggestion that his parents declined. After high school, Jobs enrolled at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Lacking direction, he dropped out of college after six months and spent the next 18 months dropping in on creative classes at the school. Jobs later narrated how one course in scribble developed his love of typography. In 1974, Jobs took a position as a video game designer with Atari. Several months later, he left the company to find spiritual insight in India, traveling further and trialing with psychedelic drugs.” (Biography.com – Steve Jobs Playlist, 2019).

Based upon your research and what you have read about the trait approach, what personality characteristics does this leader display that made him/her a successful leader? Provide at least TWO behavioral examples to support your position. In other words, provide two examples of your leader behaving (doing not saying) in a way consistent with the point you are making. Your examples of what your leader did are critical to your analysis. (20 points)

There are certain traits that Steve Jobs had that guided him to the ways of success. One of these traits he possessed is being passionate in whatever work he involved himself with. “He believed that his passion drove his perseverance and his ability to keep working no matter what challenges were in his way.” (achieveiconic.com). And through this passion, he was able to come front with an astonishing invention that leads the market. In the field of business, Jobs also showed enthusiasm to work his project and pushed for innovations across all areas of the business field (Himmel, 2013).

These business traits can be seen when Steve jobs first started his works in his father’s garage. Helping his father in fixing electronics gave him the passion for engaging in innovation to find ways of making technology more understandable to man. Jobs had to drop out of his college studies to pursue what he wanted in life (Himmel, 2013). He was more of a self-boss oriented individual and looked for ways that he could develop his company into something bigger. Despite his challenges in life, this didn’t prevent him from focusing on his dreams but gave him the passion for striving into making a name for himself. Throughout his time in business, he was enthusiastic about coming up with products that could sharpen the future and assist in making life simpler (Himmel, 2013). His invention sees this of the graphical UI system that did away with using commands in establishing operations in computers. This approach was accepted and made more sales than the expected amount.

Being business-oriented, Steve Jobs was more focused on making quality products for his customers to get the maximum sales in the company. He leads the company to focus on the demands of the customers and looking for better ways in which the company could come up with products that were never expected in the business market (Himmel, 2013). For a start, he developed a blue box that made it easy for his customers to communicate internationally. This equipment was able to make sales due to its convenience to the usage of customers at that ancient time when telephones were not easy to access. He further came up with the Mackintosh computer that was able to support Graphical UI, which made computers user-friendly and hence increase the sales of computers at that time, making more profits than other computer manufacturing companies like IBM.

Based upon your research and what you have read about the behavioral approach, does this leader focus more on task performance or more on group maintenance? Provide at least TWO behavioral examples to support your position. In other words, provide two examples of your leader behaving (doing not saying) in a way consistent with the point you are making. Your examples of what your leader did are critical to your analysis. (20 points)

Jobs focused on task performance. His focus in business was seen when his share was bought off Apple. Steve never gave up in the computer business. He went and founded another tech company that made the next-generation computer. Just like the name, NeXT these computers were designed in making computers user-friendly and efficient for customer usage. Since his primary focus was on both business and computers. He perfected in his work that made the business competition stiff in the laptop manufacturing market that Apple had no other choice but to buy back Jobs into the company for an increase in sales and innovation (Michael, 2019). This return to Apple was after Steve had made more business moves like acquiring Pixar, an animation production company that was currently on demand at that moment. All these factors considered lead to one noticing Steve as an opportunist that did not let any business opportunity slip off his ways.

Another behavior that was evident from Steve’s work is consistency in which no matter the company he worked in, Steve was always consistent in capturing the attention of his customers and hence was able to succeed in the business field. This consistency is seen in Jobs companies leading in almost all areas. Pixar, a company that he acquired while it was still at its tender age, grew to become one of the largest animation company in the USA with Steve Jobs spearheading the program. NeXT was a new company in the market and through the leadership of Steve became the biggest competitor to other big companies in the computer technology market. Through consistency, the company that Steve had laid down is now the largest tech company making sales of up to two billion a year in the current tech market that is now filled with many competitors as compared to when the company started (Michael, 2019).

Based upon your research and what you have read about the path-goal theory, what type of leadership style or combination of styles does this leader practice — directive, supportive, participative, or achievement-oriented? Provide at least TWO examples to support your position. In other words, provide two examples of your leader behaving (doing not saying) in a way consistent with the point you are making. Your examples of what your leader did are critical to your analysis. (20 points)

Based on the path-goal theory, Steve jobs had a participative leadership style, and this leadership style can be evident with his involvement in coming up with these technologies that set trades in the business market. In the first months of the company founding, Steve was seen in the team that was in charge of coming up with the new technologies, and he contributed highly with the ideas to which the company could develop to get the customer demands well sorted (Michael, 2019). The participation was also seen when Steve stood by the company even in its downfalls and also helped in securing the reputation of the company by coming up with technological inventions that revived the Apple name. This instance was seen when Apple, with the aid of Steve jobs, develop an iPod that was able to make maximum sales upon the release of the product. (Michael, 2019).

Another leadership strategy that Steve had was achievement-orientation. The first achievement was the invention of the Apple computers. This achievement is well known in the business market since it reflects his sacrifices and endurance and that is what led him into the path to success (Michael, 2019). As the founder of NeXT computers, Jobs was known for creating stiff competition for the company he had developed. His achievements did not stop there. He was then known to be the founder of smartphones where through his leadership, Apple was able to come up with the first touch screen mobile phones that were so revolutionary in the mobile phone market (Michael, 2019).

Why do you feel this individual was/is an effective leader? Provide at least TWO behavioral examples to support your positions. In other words, provide two examples of your leader behaving (doing not saying) in a way consistent with the point you are making. Your examples of what your leader did are critical to your analysis. (10 points)

Steve’s leadership seemed to be useful since it is through his leadership that the company was able to make names for itself and come up with inventions that have moved the business of computers and technology to another level. One of the effective leadership strategies that can be seen is the ability to control a large team towards the way of success. Jobs was able to control and correctly manage Apple and its individuals into leadership ways and maintaining the quality of services in the company.

His effectiveness is seen in how he was a tactical thinker in the line of business, making quick and advance moves in the company’s operations. In cases which another company had posed a competitive business environment, he would look for a smart solution. An example was when Nokia had made advance moves into the mobile phone market. Apple was able to produce a phone that was a significant deal-breaker and game-changer in the mobile phone market and increased the sales of the company at large. These tactical strategies were effective in most of the organization operations, and the company still uses some of these tactical strategies, even in his absence.

In what ways do you feel the individual’s leadership could be improved. (5 points)

Gifted with many business and leadership skills, it can be challenging to understand what Steve jobs lacked for the success of the company. But the most acceptable leadership skill that Jobs could adopt is family support. As a leader, Jobs was so focused on his work that he started neglecting his family and focusing on his work only. As a leader, he should have learned to balance his work and family.

Essay about Steve Jobs Commencement Speech

Steve Jobs the founder of apple gave a speech to Stanford graduates about the future beyond college. Steve Jobs was a successful man his marketing and business tactics led apple to what it was today at the time Steve Jobs was on his deathbed with diagnosed pancreatic cancer. This was one of his final speeches. He uses many rhetorical devices to convey his experience with liver failure and experience to Stanford graduates.

His first story is about connecting the dots, and how all the choices that seemed like the wrong ones early on turned out to be the right moves later on in his career. “So I decided to drop out and trust that everything would be OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life” (Jobs). He talks about how he decided to drop out of college, which would later become one of the best decisions he made. Jobs states “you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward, which contradicts the lives of many college students.”

In job’s second story he uses logos he discussed love, loss, and how he continued to pursue the thing he loved, even after losing it. As Jobs states “I was lucky – I found what I loved to do early in life.” after hiring a co-partner to help him run Apple, Jobs got fired from his company. He used his connecting the dots theory to conclude “getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened” (Jobs) to him. Looking back it would seem like it was worth getting fired, but no one knew what could have happened if he never did get fired. Later on, he gets re-hired and was able to renovate apple after a closed bankruptcy

In his last story, Job uses ethos and discusses his experience with death and how it changed his mind. When Steve Jobs was in his early teens, he read a quote that impacted him deeply. Every morning he would honestly ask himself, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” (Jobs). if the answer to his question was no and he was unsatisfied, he would know that a change would be required in his daily life. This led Steve Jobs to live the life he wanted to without bias and outer interference from others

Job’s speech has impacted the students at Stanford with his use of words. steve jobs is a man who has been through it all and knows that you only get one shot in life. Your life is your life so why let some jerk dictate it this shows with being the co-founder of one of the biggest companies in the world today since steve jobs passed apple has never been the same his shows were like that of a magician nowadays the shows are plain and a lot of compromises are made to the gadgets. Steve was one heck of a man.

Presentation Techniques Used by Steve Jobs

Presentation Techniques Used by Steve Jobs for Giving Successful Presentations

Steve Jobs used various techniques to be effective in his presentations. For instance, in his talks, he usually started by setting a theme for the presentation. According to Present Like Steve Jobs (2008), he understood the importance of unveiling a headline that set the day’s theme. This forces the audience to have expectations and, thus, remain attentive throughout.

Steve Jobs always provided an outline for his presentations and verbally opened and closed each section with a transition. This makes it easier for the audience to follow the speaker’s story. The third noticeable tactic Steve Jobs used specific words such as extraordinary, amazing, and remarkable, which showed enthusiasm and passion and encouraged the listeners that what was being presented was outstanding.

Effective Presentation Techniques Seen in Action

Of the techniques mentioned above, I have seen the last technique utilized by a speaker at a youth empowerment event. The town mayor’s office organized a meeting to encourage the youth to remain good citizens. The speaker used words such as robust and extraordinary, which made us all in the audience believe in what he was saying (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). Once the listeners see that the speaker believes in what they are trying to communicate, then they follow.

What to Do During a Presentation

Critical pieces of information direct what one does when developing or giving a presentation, including the audience, the scope of the topic, and time. Understanding the type of audience ensures that a person creates a presentation that suits their needs (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). It is essential to consider the presentation’s content to guarantee that the speech is meaningful, that is, not only correct but well-organized as well (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). Lastly, knowing the time allocated will help individuals plan to deliver within the shortest time possible.

What Not to Do During a Presentation

When giving a presentation, it is essential to consider avoiding specific issues. For instance, one should not forget that their work is to offer value to the listeners and not market themselves. Additionally, individuals should avoid doing presentations without planning (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). It is documented that Steve Jobs had to rehearse for his presentations. Lastly, people should avoid delivering presentations without setting objectives, which are essential to understand what to accomplish at the end.
