Initial Post Instructions:
Choose a data set of fuel prices from the attached Excel file.
Find the mean and standard deviation for the data set.  Please do not try to do this by hand, but use the functions in Excel.
Find the 95% Confidence Interval for your data.
Sample initial post:
First find the mean and standard deviation.  (Refer to video in week 2 discussion.)
Then type this in an excel cell =confidence.norm(0.05,stdev,samplesize) and hit enter. This is the E value.  (Note:  please use your standard deviation and sample size and not the words.)
Set up your confidence interval:  (mean-E, mean+E)
It is important to go back and read follow up responses from your instructor.
Formula you used above for the confidence interval:
The formula is E= zsubc * sigma / sqrt n
Where the left hand endpoint is xbar – E and the right hand endpoint is xbar + E

Submission Instructions:
Your initial post should be at least 200 words/numbers or a combination of both. Your initial post is worth 60 points.
Additional readings must be cited, and formatted in the current APA style.
You should respond to at least two of your peers by extending or adding supplementary distinctions to their posts.

In this assessment, you will use data on car prices to create charts in
Excel and calculate statistical measures from the data. The data is
provided in Auto Data [XLSX]
Download Auto Data [XLSX].
It contains information on 82 used cars that are for sale,
specifically, the asking price, the model year, the mileage, the color,
and the trim.
Follow these steps to prepare for this assessment:
Download Auto Data [XLSX
For information on how to create a bar chart, pie chart, and scatterplot charts, you can review pages 264–267 of the textbook.
For information on how to calculate the mean, median,
standard deviation, and proportion, you can review pages 271–290 of the
textbook.
Below are some resources to assist with writing your summary:
You may wish to review Capella’s Writing Process
page for an overview of the writing process. Following each of these
stages will help you write a strong, clear, and organized presentation.
You may see the Writing Strategies information in the Capella Writing Center for more on outlining.
Part 1
Use the information provided in Auto Data [XLSX]
Download Auto Data [XLSX] to create the following:
A bar chart using either the color or trim variable. Make sure you include a title for the plot and label all axes correctly.
A pie chart using either the color or trim variable.
Make sure you include a title for the plot and label the sectors of the
chart correctly.
A scatterplot using the miles and asking price. Make sure you include a title for the plot and label all axes correctly.
You may refer to pages 264–267 of the text for information on how to read these types of charts.
Part 2
Use the information provided in Auto Data [XLSX]
Download Auto Data [XLSX] to calculate the following:
The mean and median for the Asking Price and Miles variables.
The (sample) standard deviation for the Asking Price and Miles variables.
The proportion of Luxury cars and the proportion of Performance cars.
You may refer to pages to 271–290 of the text for more information on these statistical measures.
Part 3
In a Word document, write a 2–3 paragraph summary of your findings:
What are two interesting findings when looking at the charts in Part 1?
How would the charts help you make an informed decision if you were in the market for buying a vehicle?
Submission Instructions
Submit the Excel document containing your work for Parts 1 and 2.
Submit the Word document containing your work for Part 3.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will
demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and
assessment criteria:
Competency 3: Use basic probability and descriptive statistics to solve real-world quantitative problems.
Create bar chart correctly.
Create pie chart correctly.
Create scatterplot correctly.
Calculate means correctly.
Calculate medians correctly.
Calculate standard deviations correctly.
Calculate proportions correctly.
Competency 4: Apply in text the standard writing
conventions for the discipline, including structure, voice, person,
tone, and citation formatting.

Please answer this short questions using the table attached.
Instructions: In 2023, the Denver Nuggets unfortunately beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Championships. Beth is a Nuggets fan. Alex is Heat fan. Even though the Nuggets won the championship, they need to know once and for all: which team had the better players during the regular season in 2023? You decide to test this using an independent samples t-test to compare the average field goal percentage for the players on each team during the regular season.
1-What is the null hypothesis?
2-What is the alternative hypothesis?
3-What is the risk level?
A).05
B) .01
C) .5
D) .25
4-What is the best statistical test to use?
A)t-test for dependent sample
B)correlation test
C) t-test for independent sample
D) z-test
E) ANOVA
5-Compute the test statistic. The formula is below for you. Also, remember to use the variance rather than the standard deviation in your calculation. You have already calculated the variance for your previous assignment, so that part is already done! Put your calculated t value below, round your answer to two decimal places:
6-Now it’s time to compare our obtained value (the one you just calculated) to the critical value. First, we’ll need the degrees of freedom.
What are the degrees of freedom?
A)39
B) 36
C) 28
D) 40
7-Should we use a “one tailed” or a “two tailed” test for this?
Hint: To figure this out, think about whether it is directional or non-directional. Take a look at your alternative hypothesis (above!), and think about the prompt for the assignment—did we expect a specific team to be better than the other (directional), or are we simply looking at whether the teams are different (non-directional)
8-What is the critical value for this statistical test? (hint: you’ll need your answers to the previous two questions, as well as your “level of risk”; remember, if the exact degrees of freedom aren’t in the t-test table of critical values, you can choose the closest value that is there).
A)2.438
B) 2.03
C) 2.021
D) 1.69
9-Write up your results as you would see it in a results section of an empirical research paper (in
APA style). Make sure to include the means and SDs.
10-Based on your answer to the previous question, what is your decision?
A) Fail to reject the null hypothesis
B) Not enough information to decide
C) Reject the null hypothesis
11-Imagine that you also wanted to compare if there was a difference between the average amount of time people get stuck in traffic in Denver versus Miami (unlike all the other data we have used this semester, these results are entirely made up!).
An independent samples t-Test comparing the average amount of time spent in traffic per
week was statistically significant t(500) = 3.24,
p < .05. The average time spent in traffic was significantly more for those living in Miami (M = 0.75, SD = 0.32) than in Denver (M = 0.56, SD = 0.13)Calculate the effect size for this new t-test, using the Pooled Variance Formula (Below). Round your answer to two decimal places. 12-What "size" is this effect size? A) Medium B) Small C) Large D) There isn't enough information to answer this question. 13- A) Was your decision to reject the null hypothesis or fail to reject the null hypothesis for individual assignment # 11? Why did you make this choice? B) Would your decision to reject the null hypothesis have changed if you had done a one tailed, as opposed to a two-tailed test? Why or why not?
