in your textbook, you read about working in an agency. Now you will explore a bit closer how the agency looks from your perspective and that of a client. The definition of a human services agency is so broad that you likely visit one frequently. Go sit in the waiting room of a human services agency in your community. If you are not able to visit an agency in person, refer to one of the agencies featured in one of the optional resources for the module (Bringing Storytime to the Long Wait for Social Services or What if Our Healthcare System Kept Us Healthy?). Consider the following questions from the point of view of a worker at the agency and that of a client: What do you think it is like to work at the agency? What might the agency look like through the clients’ eyes? If you worked at the agency, what do you think your day-to-day challenges would be and why? How could you suggest an improved experience or environment to support the agency’s clients? It is important to understand the human services waiting room from the perspective of both an employee and a client in need of services. Submit your answers as a journal assignment.

In this discussion, respond to the following prompts:
Provide an example of an issue facing your community or a community you care about. Through the lens of Applied Sociology, explain how you feel about that community issue, how the impacted community feels about the issue, and how the broader society feels about it. Then, explain how the issue in your community is experienced more widely by individuals who share your social location and even beyond.
Share a solution to the challenge and explore how your solution might differ depending on whether the issue is viewed as (a) an individual problem or (b) a societal issue. Consider what many people perceive as personal issues (poverty, drug addiction, domestic violence, or human rights issues like abortion and ensuring safety for the trans community) and reflect on these broader, societal, often public health issues.
Explain how being in public service through activism can guide social changes for your chosen community challenge and give an example of how you might fulfill this work by engaging your community.
Overall, engage critically and avoid an editorial stance. Demonstrate your understanding of the week’s material and include your sources from the course material or elsewhere if you do any outside research. Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length.

Even though social workers might think of a compelling research question and have a desire to conduct research, this does not mean that the research is automatically supported by stakeholders or funded by an organization. To gain such approval, they must submit a research proposal. Much like an outline of a paper or a blueprint of a building design, the research proposal contains the framework so that stakeholders can see the key elements and the vision for the study.
For this Assignment, you write the first part of your research proposal, including the introduction, problem statement, research question, literature review, and methodological approach. You will work on the second part of the proposal next week.

I am a case manager at a shelter for at risk youth and a lot of my work is done on the computer and only have to meet with my clients once a week but it could be video call so i thought this was the perfect Unreasonable request as i recently had a friend work remotely in another country and i thought “wow i wish i could do that”. outcome : When i asked my manager she appeared nervous, a bit uncomfortable with the question, I was also uncomfortable asking the question, i felt vulnerable asking as i felt like i knew the answer was no and she had the final decision I was worried that she would think I’m not dedicated to my job or that i was trying to take advantage of the company. I had also just received a raise . I was hopeful that she would say yes but i knew deep down that the answer was no. She asked me what the reason for working remote was, asked if i wanted to submit PTO, FMLA, Unpaid Time off, When i told her that it was just traveling for the experience she appeared even more uncomfortable with me asking the question, almost seemed annoyed , I presented all the information to her on how i would work the normal working hours, and would complete all my job duties in a timely manner and explained how the only difference was my location. She was very hesitant and kept asking follow up questions she ultimately said i could do 1 week of remote work, and that for the remaining time i would have to do PTO, STO, FMLA or some kind of time off request. She expressed how it was unfair to my work collogues, I was prepared for the answer to be a flat out No so i was very surprised when she negotiated the request. After she agreed I went home, booked a trip and now i am going to Puerto Rico in December for 1 week.
