You were assigned to read “The Promise,” by C. Wright Mills. On this discussion board, you will discuss that reading.
Step 1: Your Post
This step is worth 5 points.
Scroll down to click the “Reply” button. You will then see a text box, where you will write your answers to the following questions. After you have finished typing your answers, click “Post Reply” (the blue box on the bottom right corner of the text box). If you need more help on how to reply to the professor’s questions on a discussion board, click hereLinks to an external site..
The following questions are based on “The Promise,” which you had to read for this week 2 (click the link at the top to return to that reading).
“The Promise” is a portion of the book The Sociological Imagination, which C. Wright Mills wrote in 1959. Because of this, many first-time readers struggle understanding it — I definitely did when I read it for the first (and even second) time! Reading sociological material is new for us at this level, and we should embrace struggling with the content — after all, that is an important part of the learning process. Knowing this, please answer the following questions as honestly and as best as you can, without being concerned with having the “perfect” or “correct” answer. Just do the best you can, being sure to provide the details requested in each question. These questions are intended to get you to work through the reading in order to eventually understand it, rather than to know the “everything” now.
Identify at least 2 sentences in the reading that you think best captures the purpose of this reading and in at least 1 sentence tell us why you selected those sentences. Please be sure to write the sentences you select in quotation marks (” “) and tell us what page(s) they are on so we can reference them.
This week you also read the “What is Sociology” section in the Introduction chapter of A Sociology Experiment. How do you think this reading “The Promise” connects to that “What is Sociology” section you read last week? In your answer, you should provide specific details from both the “What is Sociology” section and from “The Promise” reading along with the page numbers those details come from in each reading. Put the page numbers and title of the reading in parentheses at the end of the detail you discuss. “Details” are things like examples, terms, and explanations that appear in the readings. I encourage you to write in your own words. You may find it helpful to use the exact phrasing from either writing but, in such cases, you must put the writing in quotation marks (” “) and then follow up the quote with an explanation of what it is saying in your own words.
What is one question you have for your classmates about this assigned reading “The Promise”?

Write 5 pages with strategies (or methods) to help people in an organization think better, make decisions wisely, and solve problems effectively. Topics include information on the importance of connecting mindfulness and critical thinking to emotional intelligence and systems thinking.
focus on the industry you work in or are most familiar with (in my case, government). You’ll explain how critical thinking (thinking deeply about problems) and decision-making (choosing what to do) are important in your industry, with examples and evidence to back up your points.
Please use recent research (from the last 5 to 7 years) and cover various topics that are vital for leaders and decision-makers in organizations.

For this assignment, you will submit a scenario-based case study course project. Look at fire protection technology in a holistic way that is significantly different from what was previously designed by thinking in isolation. You will evaluate and develop recommendations to resolve potential fires in the future.
Section IAs we saw in the Unit III lesson, written plans, procedures, and work practices are needed in any organization, no matter how large or small they may be. Written plans and procedures point out unforeseen hazards or emergencies to the organization, employees, or even the public. Based on the scenario in the unit lesson and the information above, discuss what is an emergency action plan. What are procedures and work practices? Describe the designated actions employers and employees should take to ensure employee safety from fire and other emergencies after the warehouse is rebuilt.
Section IIPrepare a well-organized narrative addressing the existing fire protection, detection, and suppression systems for the warehouse in the Points to Ponder Scenario. Your discussion will consist of your evaluation of the previous fire protection, detection, and suppression systems. In addition, your recommendations for the rebuild of the warehouse should include the advantages that these systems have on life safety and loss prevention. Make sure to include emerging technologies related to fire protection systems that you recommend, and differentiate between the types of fire protection systems you believe would protect employees and visitors.
As you make suggestions to improve life, safety, and fire protection, refer to the background information, if needed, to provide you with the necessary material to identify the basic components common to fire protection for the City of Washington Distribution Warehouse.
Building upon the background information, as firefighters entered the structure, they had to wade through large amounts of product debris falling from the high-rack storage, and smaller debris was floating out of the loading dock doors. The products piled in the high racks hindered the operation of the in-rack sprinkler heads, allowing the products on the lower shelves to continue burning.
Note: On the fire scene, in order for the firefighters to understand where the fire is located, sides and quadrant designations have been identified as A, B, C, D. The structure faces the street (i.e., the address side), which is normally the front door; this is referred to as Side A. Facing the front door going clockwise, each side then has a letter designation of B, C, D. This means that Side B is on the left, Side C is the rear, and Side D is the right.
Section IIIIt is critical for fire protection design engineers to understand the dynamics of fire and fire behavior. In this section, you should address the areas listed below.
Briefly describe the stages of fire from the ignition phase through decay.
Discuss heat, fuel, oxygen, and a chemical chain reaction (fire tetrahedron) and how it produces flaming (visible fire).
Summarize the benefits of fire protection systems in different types of structures based on fire behavior.
Section IVAs you make suggestions to improve fire detection and alarm systems, refer to the background information of the scenario, if needed, to provide you with the necessary material to identify the basic components common to fire protection for the City of Washington Distribution Warehouse.
This assignment is not looking for compliance with building codes nor expecting you to be a fire protection system designer. However, the purpose of this assignment is for you to apply the concepts and knowledge you learned in this unit, which will cover protection systems that will detect, contain, control, and extinguish a fire. This assignment provides you with the opportunity to use your skills, expertise, and experience to enrich your response.
Prepare a well-organized narrative addressing the fire detection and alarm system, and provide your recommendations after reviewing the background information and information above. Your discussion will consist of your evaluation of the previous fire detection and alarm system. In addition, from reading the textbook chapters and any additional research you conduct about detection and alarm systems, discuss your recommendations for the rebuild of the warehouse. Be sure to include the information below.
Briefly explain the function of a fire alarm control unit.
Categorize the types of audible notification appliances.
Discuss the three types of specialty signals.
For this assignment, you will write a four-page narrative (one page per section) supporting your position. Use APA-Style level one headings for each section. The heading should be indicative of the major section to follow. You must have a title page and references page. You may use information from reputable, reliable journal articles; case studies; scholarly papers; and other sources that you feel are pertinent. You should use at least three sources, of which one must be your textbook. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations following proper APA Style.

Answer two of the following questions (drawing from “Gaslighting Citizens” and “Homeownership and Portfolio Choice Over Generations”), and respond to at least one other student’s post afterward for a total of at least 400 words.
1. How do Beerbohm and Davis apply the personal concept of “gaslighting” to the behaviors and actions of political elites? What are some contemporary examples of this practice the authors find in modern politics, and can you find even more recent examples? Finally, what connections do the authors make between political partisanship and susceptibility to political manipulation?
2. What are “shared audacious beliefs,” and what are some historic examples highlighted by Beerbohm and Davis? According to the authors, what is the “dilemma” between audacious beliefs and gaslighting, and how does this present a problem for active citizenship in a democracy?
3. According to Paz-Pardo, what are the key factors involved in the reduction of homeownership rates between cohorts born in 1940 and 1960, as well as 1960 and 1980? Briefly describe his “life cycle structural model”; how does this model account for the long-term reduction in homeownership across generations?

Final Project Proposal
WHO:
This is an individual effort assignment from each student in the course.
WHAT:
The Final Project Proposal is a written submission in which students identify and discuss the issue(s) surrounding their chosen themes/topics and propose a program, initiative, or activity that will address those issues. For example, a student from a previous semester chose the theme of Climate Change and Natural Disasters for his project package. For the Final Project Product Proposal, he discussed how climate change affects agriculture in South and Central America. Within the proposal, he identified the issue and causes, prior attempts and deficiencies in addressing the issue, and proposed the solution of enhancing global awareness through art (making information pertaining to climate change more appealing and interesting for a targeted audience).

Students are required to submit drafts of the Final Project Product Proposal for feedback before submitting the final draft of the proposal.
Part 1:
The problem to be addressed
Problem subtopic
Possible causes and maintaining forces
Background and Justification
Part 2:

Evaluation
Here are the recommended completion steps:
View the provided example and the sample template.
The student should select a global healthcare-related topic that truly interests them; they should not feel confined in this process. However, check with the instructor to confirm this topic is “OK.”
Identify a problem within that topic area, and then, write that problem as a research question. <<<<< Take time with this step. Historically, this is what students have struggled with the most. Here is a very brief example: Topic = WNBA Basketball Problem = There are not as many teams as the NBA so there is a limited variety of matchups. Research question/subtopic = Based on past research, what are the major hurdles that are delaying the expansion of the WNBA? Write part 1 mentioned above. Identify a possible solution to the research question and substantiate why this is unique and better than previous solutions to the problem. *NOTE: This will be the catalyst for the dynamic deliverable. For example, If your solution to the lack of teams in the WNBA is to write an NBA bylaw that requires NBA teams to also have a “sister” WNBA team. The dynamic deliverable would be that bylaw. If your solution is to have a TV campaign to encourage fans to write letters to NBA owners (who don’t have a WNBA team) and encourage them to start one, the dynamic deliverable would be an original video of that TV commercial. Write part 2 mentioned above. Review to ensure all the required subheadings, from the template, are included and covered. Example themes/topics/global health problems may include (but are not limited to): HIV/AIDS Obesity & Heart Disease Food/Water Insecurity, Hunger, & Poverty Medical Tourism Climate Change & Natural Disasters Abortion & Family Planning Universal Healthcare vs. Private Sector Insurance-based Payers Health & Wellbeing for Nations at War/Unrest Vaccinations, Genetic Testing, Autism & Developmental Disabilities Global Health Security & Preparedness for Aggressive Communicable Diseases LGBT Community Health Cancer Euthanasia / Death & Dying
