CSR Analysis of Volkswagen Car Company

CSR is the social responsibility a company talks on board during the expansion of their business. These responsibilities may include environmental protection, helping the surrounding community, or how the employees are being treated. Some companies reach certain size and start to disregard these responsibilities because of the way I can bring extra cost to their company. One of these companies is Volkswagen.

Company Overview

Volkswagen is a German car company, and the largest automaker by worldwide sales from 2016 to 2017, with a net worth of 85 billion in 2018. The Volkswagen group also owns, Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini Porsche and a few other more minor car companies. Volkswagen in the past has been known for their violation of CSR in the past.

CSR Analysis

Volkswagen believes that sustainability means sticking to their CSR values. Nowadays, Volkswagen seem to be as environmentally friendly as possible, however about 5 years ago, Volkswagen was involved with in an emission scam.

Through Volkswagen’s advertising, it is obvious they think highly of their social impact. However, one of their latest advertisement was taken down due to racism. It seems that Volkswagen treats the employees drastically different in promotion hierarchy. On one end people are saying that Volkswagen expects everything with minimal pay, while others, with a higher say there’s no pressure and can be fun.

Volkswagen seems to be worse than most when it comes to following the CSR guideline. Firstly, in 2015, Volkswagen released a vehicle that produced too much emission, the reason for this was because the producers of the car said that they didn’t have too much time nor funding to perfect this product. This shows a lack of both worker’s treatment and environmental impact. To top that off, this year, Volkswagens released a racist commercial break they’re social relations. The only remaining category is sustainability, and you have to take the word of the company as no one outside of the company truly knows their future plans.

A way to improve Volkswagen CSR, would most likely show their future plans. This is both risky but may be necessary. This may increase the trust between the company and the civilians, as well as allow their plans to be checked and see if the plans are economically friendly. However, this is unlikely to happen as leaking this sort of information can also backfire, and competitors may use such ideas, however Volkswagen is digging themselves into a bigger hole at the moment.

Conclusion

In the act of engaging in CSR, Volkswagen would gain popularity with both the people and the government. It would create a sort of trust as between the producers and the consumers, which in this case is the general public. This would benefit with the expansion of the Volkswagen company creating more jobs and getting work done quicker. This would’ve stopped the emission scandal, as the creators of the car complained about having enough time/manpower.

Volkswagen at the moment are straying away from CSR practises. They are creating a sort of negative environment for the workers, customers and maybe the environment. Due to these factors even, the smallest error has costed them dearly. Following the practises wouldn’t be too hard for a company as large as Volkswagen, and the long run benefit most definitely outweigh the problems they may face throughout this transition. The transition would award them with a good public figure as well as a reliable company. Doing this around now may help with the economy to get going again as people buying shares in the company may help.

Marriott Hotels’ Corporate Social Responsibility

Introduction

The development of the hotel industry is essential today as it requires the improvement of its leadership and management activities. One of the possible steps to be taken is the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Many hotels have already demonstrated certain achievements in this area, and the line of Marriott Hotels is one of them. Serve360 is a current Marriott CSR initiative focusing on three major aspects: people, the environment, and economic profit. There are many reasons for Marriott Hotels to integrate this program in its activities, like the increased attention from potential and regular clients, cooperation with leading brands, and the improvement of working conditions. Still, the main benefit includes the possibility to stay competitive in the hospitability industry.

Hotel Industry and CSR Concepts

The relationship between the hotel industry and CSR concepts is evident: both of them are in high demand today. The hotel industry may grow locally and internationally, while CSR initiatives are implemented by many hotels to obtain their competitive advantage. Three areas are usually improved in terms of CSR programs. First, CSR addresses the discussion of social issues by means of cooperation and education for people with different backgrounds. Second, socially responsible hotels underline the importance of saving the environment and becoming eco-friendly organizations. Finally, the presence of CSR initiatives promotes problem-solving and decision-making in multiple economic aspects.

Serve360 in Marriott Hotel

In Marriott Hotels, much attention and resources are spent to enhance its Serve360 program. The mission of the team is “doing good in every direction”. This commitment is not simple, and it is expected to take steps in several directions. At this moment, Marriott Hotels work in four directions, namely:

  • Nurturing the world (communities need additional help and inspiration to become better)
  • Sustaining responsibility (the expansion of global presence imposes multiple obligations)
  • Empowering people through opportunities (employment conditions have to be improved)
  • Advancing human rights (cultural diversity is never a challenge but a benefit for the hotel industry).

If these four tasks are complete, it is possible to achieve and promote a positive impact on people, the environment, and business in general.

Nurture Our World

It is not enough for Marriott Hotels to provide clients with high-quality sources and options. One of the strongest characteristics of the CSR initiative of the hotel is the recognition of the role of local communities. As soon as communities are involved, they understand how to create better places for life and work as per their needs and skills. In addition, the vitality of children is promoted due to cooperation with leading hospitals like Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the United States and Canada. Education about natural resources is important to understand how to protect the environment by participating in coral restoration and rainforest protection. Recently, skills-based volunteer activities have emerged, in terms of which “how-to” guides are offered for all potential participants. Finally, the promotion of disaster relief is initiated by Marriott Hotels to help people after natural disasters restore their lives. Free community kitchens, healthy food markets, and food waste management are established.

Sustain Responsible Operations

The next step in the chosen initiative is to sustain responsible operations that are directed to environmental improvement and growth. The core idea of Marriott Hotels is to minimize environmental footprint with the help of modern technologies and critical thinking. Employees get appropriate education about energy management and develop the ideas to use water and renewable energy rationally. Sustainable hotel building allows the application of water sub-metering for cooling towers to view the consumption of water in each hotel. Guest room recycling, single-use toiletry bottles, and food waste reduction posters help people learn more about the potential contribution to environmental protection. Finally, communication with partners improves the idea of responsible sourcing in several categories like seafood, cleaning supplies, or coffee products.

Empower Through Opportunity

Empowerment through opportunities is a good chance for young people to be involved in Marriott Hotels’ activities by applying for education and free training. Diversity and equity are supported by hotel managers as it is necessary to consider the experience of different countries. Marriott Hotels invite women to lead their departments in various directions. To remove inequality, people with disabilities and veterans are regularly invited for employment in the hotel industry. Marriott Hotels also closely cooperate with immigrations to help them find new living opportunities and support.

Welcome All and Advance Human Rights

Finally, the CSR initiative in Marriott Hotels includes the necessity to respect human rights and cultural understanding. Education in different forms (direct communication, lecturing, and posters) is promoted in hotels to enhance awareness of human trafficking, forced labor, and exploitation. This step aims at recognizing controversies and management mistakes and making corrections as soon as possible. Cultural understanding is necessary to remove unnecessary biases in human relationships, underline the worth of global tourism, and recognize the cultural uniqueness of every client and employee. When hotels demonstrate their respect for traditions, more people are eager to visit such places and spend their money.

Conclusion

In general, CSR is necessary for every hotel to improve the quality of its services and the conditions under which employees have to work. Marriott Hotels have already demonstrated how to improve such initiative in its routine and attract the attention of global brands and organizations. Serve360 is a step to enhance community engagement, environmental protection, and management practices. The hotel industry touches upon many vital issues in human life, and a single hotel can create a strong environmental and social standard. This presentation contains the description of Marriott Hotels and its CSR initiative with attention to communities, natural resources, and employees. This choice is an example of how one organization unites many people globally.

Online Voting and Corporate Social Responsibility

Problem Statement

Internet Voting System joins every one of the highlights of a standard voting framework yet offers an elective strategy for directing decisions that is less distressing, simpler, and quicker using an organization. It wipes out the dying exercises related to the manual framework and diminishes the span of races, subsequently bringing about enormous monetary investment funds. It is accordingly suggested for use in any political race if composed. Online voting looked simple during the early days of the ever-evolving technology that was developed. However, bots, worms, increasing threats of terrorism, unauthorized intrusion attempts, and viruses decreased the possibility of an easy solution. Today, scientists, election officials, and security analysts have identified various ideas for solving online voting problems. As a result, debates about the exercise’s credibility have emerged worldwide, with some individuals supporting and others opposing it.

The primary problem in this research is the insecurity in the online voting system due to the increase of cybercrimes. It is not hard for one to consider various assaults that may introduce themselves, which may, to fluctuating degrees, sway the political race measure. One needs to analyze assault vectors that, as of now, influence shoppers and undertakings today to apply them to this interaction (Yang et al. 20507). This research examines the assault vectors that would be destined to have a significant and material effect on a political race, influencing citizens, applicants, or democracy. It is essential to comprehend the related dangers as political up-and-comers progressively go to the Internet to all the more adequately impart their positions, rally allies, and try to influence pundits. These dangers incorporate, among others, the spread of deception, extortion, phishing, vindictive code, and the attack of security. A portion of these assaults, including the redirection of online mission gifts, can undermine citizens’ confidence in our discretionary framework.

Goals and Objectives

The primary objectives of this study are to analyze the online voting systems. As a result, there will be a recommendation on making online voting effective free from cyberbullying. Online voting advantages include convenience because it can be done from home, the office, or during vacation. Additionally, voters do not need to walk or drive to the polling station and wait in long queues to cast their ballots. The pros of voting online attract many young people whose numbers have been recorded as minimal over time. The homebound and elderly can easily vote online compared to voting places (Yang et al. 20510). The participation of individuals in the local areas might increase due to the flexibility of casting ballots at their comfort.

Problems such as ticking more than one aspirant and voter fraud are minimized when people vote through the Internet. This is because the software can ensure that voters revise what they do without ballots’ invalidation or prevent them from choosing multiple candidates. However, disadvantages such as the inability to vote by economically unstable people and outside interference are a primary concern. People’s social classes differ, and some can lack devices connected to the Internet, eliminating their ability to cast votes online.

Scope

In the new time of innovation where online voting helps work speed, lessens ruins, and advances the age of precise outcomes, having a manual political race framework turns into a hardship. A public political race framework establishes the foundation of a democracy where individuals need to choose their state’s political leader. In democratic nations, casting a ballot is an essential apparatus to gather and re-act individuals’ perspectives. In the decisions, the appointment of an individual from the gathering, the head of state government political race, and others, a citizen can choose after going to the assigned surveying place and checking his personality (Yang et al., 20511). Traditionally, casting a ballot stall is utilized for projecting votes in both brought together and circulated places. Casting a ballot is done under the oversight of approved gatherings.

Several nations are currently using a draft political decision-making system, which creates fewer problems. As a result of this draft form-based political ballot paper, a number of issues are considered by citizens before or during elections. Others are viewed by the organization as a democracy. An online framework, which includes methods such as voter registration, pro-voting, vote-checking, and announcement of results, etc., can be a decent response to a current framework. The proportion of votes is made physically after the political decision is over. However, with the rapid development of online voting democracy, new online and cryptographic strategies could replace this event and the worst mistake it has ever made for anyone. In order to create an effective and efficient voting system, online democratic structures must be established to assist in collecting and consolidating votes.

Literature Review

Democratic government is a significant matter in most current cultures. Perhaps the main exercises inside a vote-based system are the appointment of delegates. It is additionally a sensitive cycle that is the subject of different unsettling influences, like inert residents, endeavors of extortion, and so on (Yang et al. 20506). The prerequisite of political race is to set up appropriate choices. Traditional democratic frameworks incorporate papers, punch cards, mechanical switches, optical-examine machines, and so forth. Notwithstanding, none of them can fulfill a secure and unquestionable political decision while keeping up protective measures of electors since they cannot demonstrate their legitimate tasks without uncovering singular votes.

Additionally, they are not productive as they are directed physically and thusly regularly; they are not exact. There has been wide accessibility of printed information, particularly with expanded size and openness to global technology (Feng et al. 101408). The vast majority of this information is not very much organized, such that it makes mining of data from it consequently simple as a ton of these data are made accessible by various people and associations through web-based media destinations, news locales, survey locales, and different administrative and authoritative offices.

To speak with constituents and allies, competitors have made and keep up sites, distinguished by and explored through their enrolled space names. All contenders for the government political decision have enlisted, or effectively own, an exceptional space name utilized to have their particular site (Yang et al. 20508). Certainty is the capacity to decide if just and all substantial votes are included in conclusive count or not, for example, to decide the precision of the political decision. The exactness of the political decision can be confirmed two; one is the individual evidence where no one but citizens can check their votes in the count. Thusly the exactness of the political race comprised of n citizens is guaranteed when there are not exactly or equivalent to n votes and all n electors confirm their votes. The other is all-inclusive obviousness which empowers any outsider to confirm the precision of the political decision.

When analyzing a valid political decision, the votes included are largely considered to ensure that the desires of the electors in the political race are protected Security is also an essential aspect considered in voting due to the development of artificial intelligence. Consequently, electronic voting has been analyzed to ensure that the systems are secure. Electronic democratic interaction has also been discussed by experts to show how it can be exercised during voting and guarantee that people can learn about making political decisions. For political decision coordinators, arranging postal or polling booth centers is inseparable from significant expenses. The voting body needs to track down a proper actual space to hold the political race, advise qualified electors, get ready postal democratic structures, and sort out the vote tally (Yang et al., 20512). Give people the most ultimate adaptability and effectiveness in political decision arranging and make polling forms effectively on the web.

Convey political race solicitations and updates helpfully through email. Notice citizen turnout progressively and draw in electors with a couple of mouse clicks. Simple polling form creation and individual political decision greeting configuration, just as programmed vote checking, extraordinarily improves political race association. Casting a ballot ought to be essential, area-free, and open. Diminish obstructions to interest and offer the qualified citizens secure internet casting a ballot to help turnout. Adding the alternative to cast a ballot online permits qualified electors to project their votes whenever inside the political decision time frame and from any area.

Methodology

In acquiring the data, several strategies were employed so as to get the genuine political situation in the voting of various nations. Surveying different countries during the voting procedure was vital in developing the research. Moreover, there were interviews where individuals were asked about their opinions on the online voting system. The members are allowed to preclude scores from showing no assessment as they complete the review, and they are cautioned that this will not be deciphered to imply that they do not care for that up-and-comer (Yang et al. 20506). This is a significant differentiation while computing the vote results; notwithstanding, it is evident from the review that a considerable lot of the overview members did not adhere to the directions and excluded scores for their less favored applicants. Throw these specific techniques; relevant data was captured.

Data Collection

Data was collected using the above-highlighted methods and recorded. The interviews were recorded in sheets giving the opinions of the varying individual. Those who advocated for online voting were recorded in a different sheet from those against the voting system. Online decision-making provides a secure and independent channel that allows all clients to participate in the same standards. Many have suggested that the availability of foreign voters and people with mobility problems or reduced performance varied. This also positively affects the final attendance, which is why the authenticity of political races. Data was properly collected and recorded using online platforms.

Data Presentation

The textual data presentation was used to represent the online voting and the problem faced by the system. The analyst should know the intended interest group, the registered voters who vote online. The politicians should utilize a language to introduce information that is straightforward and features the central matters of the information discoveries. In the research, the surveyor was keen to use phrasing that does not present inclination in research, hence used terms related to voting. Additionally, the investigator stayed away from being one-sided, skewed, or enthusiastic language. One mix-up that frequently specialists make is to utilize general enlightening words such as, to an extreme, little, precisely, consistently, never, and must. These words should be avoided during the research. The numbers and rates better portray and satisfy the point of the information shown.

Data Analysis

It was noticed that many individuals are considering online voting as the best strategy for voting. Despite this, the strategy is faced with several challenges that involve cybercrimes. About 78% of the voters contacted argued that online voting is perfect in demonstrating democracy. Despite this, 60% of the individuals contacted said that the cybercrimes involved cause injustice and affect the election outcome. This is because the politicians may collude with individuals who can influence the results of an election. As a result, it was discovered that a significant number of voters were advocating for online voting as it gives each individual a chance to make a democratic decision.

Conclusion

Online voting is advocated by many voters who are willing to demonstrate their democratic rights. Despite the overlying disadvantage of online voting, it is the best voting strategy to be used.

Personal and Corporate Social Responsibility

People in the various parts of the world have different social and economic status. When we evaluate the disadvantaged, we do it not only in financial terms but also in other aspects of life. There are people who are physically and mentally challenged, others are living in war torn countries, while some suffer from the lack of medical and education facilities.

While some individuals or countries suffer from the challenges stated above, others enjoy privileges that they have not necessarily earned. Over the years, corporate social responsibility has been embraced and many companies have gone out of their way to give back to the society. It may not bridge the gap between the underprivileged and the privileged but it helps to improve the lives of those with a lower social status.

“You should be the change you wish to see in the world” as Gandhi put it, therefore as an individual you ought to take this responsibility and help the less privileged in the society. Based on personal values, I believe that though we may never interact with these people and never visit poor and war torn countries, we should reach out and assist them with the things we have been blessed with. The small and genuine contribution of each individual will collectively have a great impact on the lives of the people we are reaching out to.

Based on Christian values, you should love your neighbor as you love yourself.

It is not necessarily victims’ fault that they find themselves in certain circumstances and neither have you done something extraordinary to be at your position. If tables were turned and you found yourself facing these hardships, would not you wish that someone reached out to you and assisted to go through it?

For corporate social responsibility to have the desired results and to be implemented successfully, individuals need to have a sense of responsibility. The developmental approach and relational approach can be used by an organization to have the best results during the implementation of policies as discussed by Mirvis (95). We are the agents of change in the society or in every aspect of our lives, hence our individual moral standing determines how well we implement the social responsibilities.

A person who believes in doing the right things will implement the policies meant for the well-being of others who are suffering. A workforce with proper moral standing will not watch the management making decisions that will hurt the society, and neither will a leader whose morals are straight thrive in the organization making profits at the expense of less fortunate in society (Castka, Bamber and Sharp).

The success of an organization can be affected by various factors, which include but are not limited to environmental and economic factors. If people do not support an organization then it is bound to fail, these people provide raw materials, labor and even influence the publicity of the company. The community is a serious factor that influences organizations’ success and should not to be disregarded. Corporate social responsibility activities will be used to evaluate the company’s moral standing in the eyes of the society (Isikman et al, 819).

Maintaining amiable diplomatic relations is a key goal for most of the world’s leading nations. However, due to the widening gap between the rich and the poor, the probability of attaining this goal is gradually turning into fantasy. Indeed, it is virtually impossible for the whole world to be happy when some members of the society can hardly manage to get food or satisfy other basic needs, while others have much more than they actually need.

This easily discernible gap between the rich and the poor fuels the development of hostilities and can easily lead to local neocolonialism. Consequently, amiable diplomatic ties are severed. It is possible to avert such scenarios if the endowed nations adopt a caring attitude towards the affected countries. This can be achieved through cancellation of trade impediments and write-offs of defective debts owed to them by the poorer countries.

Professional responsibility requires ethical utilization of government, corporate, business, or individual expertise in ways that can improve the lives of others. In order to uphold the principles of professional responsibility and leadership, financially fortunate members of society, corporations and governments should implement protocols aimed at assisting developing economies to reduce the number of people living below the poverty line.

It is not a single-handed task to implement the corporate social responsibility program policies, therefore employees should not leave it to management to formulate and implement the policies. Social responsibility implementation will need flexibility of the management since the standard of CSR keeps changing with time as discussed by Bamber, Castka and Sharp.

It may be a mistake that the corporate social responsibility exists for companies only, however this is not the case, it is a collective role of the society. Churches, non-governmental organizations and the youth as well as social groups should take up corporate social responsibility to make it a success.

As you reach out to the less fortunate always bear in mind that what you do, no matter what economical implication on your end it can have, will mean a lot to those on the receiving end. Instead of sitting back and watching others go through hardships, make your little contribution towards making the world a better place. You will also get satisfaction from doing what you know is right.

Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in Society

Introduction

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) describes the strategies companies use to ensure their operations are eco-friendly, adhere to ethical principles, and beneficial to the society. It is argued that CSR is a company’s contribution to the growth of the society. The critical areas that CSR managers focus on include the conservation of the environment, the development of the local community, and the general welfare of their employees.

Role of CSR in society

When a mega-store builds a branch in a residential area, it enhances the lives of the surrounding community. The proximity of the large store makes life convenient and reduces other costs such as fuel and time spent traveling to other destinations. However, the establishment of this venture will have an adverse impact on the small-scale businesses. Additionally, if the proposed store is established on virgin land, it significantly affects the physical environment.

The establishment, sustenance, and expansion of a corporation have considerable impacts on the environment and the surrounding community. This has forced companies to engage in non-profit ventures and socially responsible initiatives. Through these programs, the corporate entities are able to channel a section of their profits back to local societies for various reasons.

They include enhancing the living standards of their customers, improving the economy of the local community, and mitigating the impact of their operations on the environment. These strategies ensure that their businesses are sustainable.

Corporate entities mitigate the negative impacts resulting from industrialization. This is associated with the creation of awareness about the ethical principles in business operations. For example, automobiles discharging high emissions are taxed at higher rates compared to vehicles with low emissions.

This enables the owners of low emitting vehicles to invest in productive community projects. Creation of close public and customer relationships is another strategy through which the society benefits from CSR. This initiative allows firms to be perceived as members of the social system, and not as a source of employment and commodities. This enhances the peaceful co-existence and harmony between corporate entities and the society. This is an essential social asset in the development of communities.

Other initiatives include helping talented and intelligent students to pursue their education through the provision of scholarships and employment after completion of studies. Corporate entities also use CSR to disseminate technology to the local community. Some corporations have used this platform to drive conservation efforts by mitigating the impact of their environmental footprints. Examples of such initiatives are the campaigns against global warming and the management of carbon emissions.

The XYZ Company’s CSR Initiatives

The XYZ Company has initiated various CSR programs within its community. Some of these projects include the establishment of a scholarship program and the conservation of the environment. The scholarship program was established to assist needy students from poor families gain access to quality education.

The XYZ Company provides 100% funding for tuition and other personal expenses. They also support their families by providing casual employment to their parents. The firm is also engaged in the conservation of the environment through a re-afforestation campaign aimed at increasing the national forest-cover to contain the effects of global warming.

Conclusion

For CSR programs to be successful, they require a commitment from various stakeholders such as the political administration, corporate entities, civil societies, and the local communities. As most corporations continue to engage in CSR, the government is relieved of social burdens because these initiatives cover all sectors in the society.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Employee Behavior

Introduction

Corporate social responsibility is an essential component of the work of any business company as it forms its image and enhances the trust of its stakeholders. Besides, often, this aspect is reflected by company employees both in the working environment and in everyday life, since they represent the interests of the company. The leader also has to provide incentives for employees to perform their work duties at a high level; however, an ethical leader also contributes to the development of workers as moral and responsible individuals. For this reason, De Roeck and Farooq study in detail the relationship between employee social behavior, ethical leadership, and corporate social responsibility by considering all aspects that influence the results of the research.

Summary

De Roeck and Farooq (2017) analyze literature that studies corporate social responsibility (CSR) and come to the conclusion that the issue of its impact on employee behavior is not well understood. In their work, “Corporate social responsibility and ethical leadership”, they suggest that companies that undertake actions and promote the principles of CSR arouse the desire in employees to do socially useful things. In addition, the example of an ethical leader who promotes high social standards also has an impact on the socially beneficial behavior of employees. For this reason, scientists conduct surveys in 35 different companies to analyze the interdependence of these three factors (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). As a result, they confirm their hypotheses and find that CSR enhances employee participation in environmental initiatives, and ethical leadership develops social engagement (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). Thus, scientists in an empirical way find conformations of their hypotheses and contribute to the study of corporate social responsibility.

Analysis of the Literature Review and Hypotheses

This study is an example of a well-developed and organized work as scientists take into account all the nuances to obtain the most accurate results. The authors analyze the literature on corporate social responsibility and ethical leadership precisely and carefully. De Roeck and Farooq (2017) note, that although some sources mention the influence of these concepts on the social behavior of employees, there is no definitive empirical evidence to support the theory. For this reason, the authors highlight the main aspects of both SCR and ethical leadership and put forward their hypotheses. Many confirming theoretical facts make hypotheses sound, logical, and understandable, and also determine their scope. In addition, academic research allows the authors to determine the survey questions that are necessary to understand the relationship of all components of the study accurately.

Review of Methods of Data Collection and Analysis

The method of collecting and analyzing data is also logical and suitable for research, since the survey is the most convenient and affordable way to obtain information. A positive feature is that scientists verbally and in writing warned survey participants about the confidentiality of information, as well as that the questions did not have a right or wrong answer (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). This explanation reduced the possibility of data distortion and inaccuracy of results. Besides, the right choice was an additional call to the survey participants, which allowed to get more answers (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). At the same time, confirmatory factor analysis contributed to more accurate results and reduced the possibility of error.

However, the drawbacks of the survey are the limited selection, the possibility of bias of the participants towards themselves, as well as the personal characteristics of the respondents that the authors do not consider. Only 359 people took part in the research, which, although sufficient for this study, can still distort the data in general (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). A larger sample of respondents could provide more accurate results and less chance of mistake.

Besides, the survey was conducted only in South Africa, so scientists could not take into account ethnic and national characteristics of behavior; however, the researchers noted this point as a limitation of the study (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). Also, even though the participants were aware that the questions did not have the correct answers, they could subconsciously choose responses that increased their participation in social initiatives or misrepresented data about their leader. Therefore, the data may be partially distorted; nevertheless, at the moment, a more accurate method of obtaining data for such research does not exist. In addition, the study does not consider the attitudes of participants to social initiatives, the level of responsiveness, empathy, and other traits of character. However, the scientists noted that personal characteristics are crucial for determining the behavior of workers. They also included demographic data in the analysis, but the research format itself does not allow them to take this aspect into account.

Critique of the Discussion and Implication of the Results

The discussion part is quite brief, but it fully reveals the significance of the results obtained and provides confirmation of the hypotheses put forward. This part’s statements and facts help to summarize the essence of the entire study and understand its central topics. Besides, the authors fully described the theoretical and practical contribution of the findings, and it is difficult to add other points. The main theoretical application of the research results is complementing and filling gaps in knowledge about SCR at the organization level and its impact on employees’ social behavior. The authors also note that findings can explain the effect of ethical leadership on employee involvement in social initiatives at work and beyond (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). This theoretical base allows applying the results in practice to improve the image of the company due to the high level of social responsibility of employees, as well as to conduct training for leaders. Thus, the authors describe all the areas in which the study can contribute.

Analysis of Limitations

De Roeck and Farooq (2017) also analyze in detail the limitations of the study by describing the disadvantages of data collection mentioned above. They recognize that conducting a survey in only one country, as well as the human bias factor, can influence the results of the research. However, at the same time, the authors suggest further ways to develop the study, which include other mediating mechanisms, moderators, and sources of influence on the behavior of employees related to social responsibility (De Roeck & Farooq, 2017). Thus, the authors intend to use the limitations of this study for its development and the expansion of the research issues.

Conclusion

Therefore, this study is related to the topics that are necessary for management sphere and covers all the issues proposed by the authors for the research. Although the methods of collecting information have some drawbacks, they are associated with objective limitations and not the omissions of the authors. The analysis of the literature, the developed method of data analysis and collection, and the described implications of the results demonstrate a deep understanding of the topic by authors and the thoroughness of the study. In addition, both findings and limitations of this work can be used to expand research in this topic or issues related to it.

Social Responsibility Phenomenon

Introduction: When “Responsibility” Is More than Just a Word

There are different ways to define the phenomenon of responsibility. Some call it the recognition of the basic needs (Evans 8), others consider it the process of rethinking one’s set of values. As for me, responsibility is what stands for the challenge.

Responsibilities in My Life: The Reason to Wake up in the Morning

As for now, my basic responsibilities are studying well and learning to take care of myself. However, these ones are quite hard as well. In a completely new environment, I sometimes feel like these responsibilities are rather solid. However, digging a bit deeper, one can possibly say that there are a lot of small-scale responsibilities in my life which I hardly even notice. Performed every day mechanically, without actually thinking of what I am doing and why these small responsibilities result from my relationships with the people around me and the culture and traditions of the country which I live in. For example, I also have such responsibilities as shopping taking care of my pet dog, trimming a Christmas tree, taking part in various social events, etc.

How Far My Feeling of Responsibility Stretches: Learning to Say “No”

There is no secret that having a responsibility presupposes the necessity to take account of the results of certain actions. Being the reverse side of the coin, the given peculiarity of the phenomenon makes it even more difficult to do what I am supposed to. Indeed, as Cote explains, “Although many people welcome the ability of choice, they may not be so happy with having to assume the responsibility for the outcome of those choices” (Cote 2). Therefore, I must admit that when knowing that I will not be able to handle the possible negative results, I prefer not to take additional responsibility. Although having one might seem more complicated, it is in fact even harder to say “No” when someone presses me into having a responsibility. Perhaps, it is the pride for having an important issue to tackle that makes one accept an unreasonable challenge.

Without a Care in the World: Shaking off the Weight

On the one hand, it is quite clear that all these responsibilities are exactly what I need to become a reliable and strong-willed person. However, when I feel completely exhausted, I do wish that my responsibilities could take a holiday while I enjoy some rest. That is exactly what the following idea crosses my mind: what if I had no responsibilities at all? And the next question I ask myself is whether it is possible to have no responsibilities whatsoever.

At first glance, the idea is completely brilliant. Indeed, life becomes easier when there is little to care about. However, if considering this idea closer, one will inevitably come to the conclusion that responsibilities fill people’s lives with meaning. Hence, with nothing or no one to care about, one’s life will become meaningless.

Conclusion: There Are Still a Lot of Things Left to Take Care of

Therefore, even if I had an opportunity to become a person without a care in the world, I would never want to. Even though the pressure of responsibilities which I have at present can sometimes get too tight, it is still better than a dull life without anything or anyone to be responsible for.

Social Responsibility of United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County

It is hard to disagree that today’s world and people are much more welcoming, tolerant, and accepting than years before. However, there is not enough diversity in workplaces, communities are still not completely inclusive, and there is a place for discrimination and deprivation of human rights. These are just some issues that our company fights against. Thus, the mission of United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County is to promote equality and justice, eliminate racism, and allow everyone to achieve their happiness and full potential. Consequently, this is how we help the community and support the whole world.

It may be quite evident from our website that we value everyone, notwithstanding their age, gender, race, income, and other characteristics, and want to improve their lives. United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County considers it vital to prepare young children for life, help students find themselves and succeed, foster self-efficacy for families and individuals, and support persons in crisis and difficult times. Even when we also face significant challenges, we never give up on those who need our help. Notwithstanding reduced funding, employee shortage, or even bad weather, it is always our duty to improve the everyday experiences of other individuals and give them care, hope, and chances for a brighter future.

Overall, our projects aimed at enhancing the community’s lives are not limited to:

  • Dual Generation Initiatives
  • Healthy Outcomes through Prevention & Early Support (HOPES)
  • ReadyKidSA
  • Child Care Scholarships
  • and some other effective initiatives.

We, as a company, promise that people can feel safer, hopeful, equal, and more significant as we exist. To foster our work, we accept donations, organize events and membership groups, and attract volunteers. For example, lately, we have received donated funds to support the families and survivors of the Robb Elementary shooting. By uniting the community and allowing humans to see and eliminate our common issues, we empower them and prove that it is possible to change the world for the better.

The Top Three Benefits to Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

Just as it is every company’s accountability, adhering to social responsibility is a commitment of every member of society. Being socially obliged is an indication of a person’s consent to self-management and social awareness skills, which includes understanding the effect of one’s decision on others. Whether on a corporate or individual level, it is beneficial to observe aspects of societal ones. The benefits of social responsibility include managing ethical blowback, consent to embracing the future, and lastly ensuring the establishment of humans and the environment.

The Benefits of Social Responsibilities

Noble individual living and company existence is determined by abilities to manage ethical blowbacks. Ethics means going beyond and above legal needs in meeting societal expectations (Geethamani, 2017). Such aspects as producing valuable products and taking care of employees and the environment are some of the considerations that corporates and individuals invest in to control moral dilemmas. Being socially accountable means managing issues that cause the right concerns beforehand. Additionally, embracing communal sociality supports the contentment of the future because it involves conservation. When industries and individuals protect seas and soils and show acts that preserve lives, they approve of a need for a bright future. Thus, it increases the chances of living in a world that supports harmony between the environment and its inhabitants. Social responsibility also causes human and environmental establishment, considering that, once the exchange between the environment and people is healthy, virtuous living is achieved.

How My Organization Implement Social Responsibility Initiatives

Apple.Inc is one of the companies that observe and implement social responsibility concerns. For instance, the company follows all the legal aspects and labors beyond the need to honor the operative legal obligation. The 1990s pollution prevention Act has been a guiding tool for the company in terms of maintaining a healthy environment (Geethamani, 2017). Under the guidance of Lisa Jackson, the company has innovated various programs, among them, there is the Global Volunteer Program which encourages the workers to share resources and expertise with the community as needed. By choosing the projects they want, employees achieve the need to be socially responsible in supporting the public.

The Social Responsibility of Enterprises

The social responsibility of enterprises has an important role to play in maximizing profits, but it also raises critical ethical questions. SRI cannot invest in areas of the economy that in any sense contradict justice, morality, and social equality. This includes the alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and gun industries. It is easy to see that the branches mentioned above of industry (though profitable) do not conform to standards of social benefit and, on the contrary, have serious negative consequences for society. Nevertheless, if one industry were to be removed from the list, it would be appropriate to choose gambling since it is expected to have the most negligible impact on society. Although, according to Deveney (2021), gambling is addictive, the significance of this addiction is not comparable to the effects of alcohol and tobacco, which kill people daily. In addition, guns are a sensitive topic in themselves but are aimed at killing in one way or another. Therefore, SRI can invest in gambling if necessary, but not in other areas.

The discussion of the need for businesses to be socially responsible is also a matter of principle. On the one hand, it is essential to understand that businesses implement all possible strategies in order to maximize profits. On the other hand, however, most companies today are becoming prominent and have global influence. In this sense, businesses are expected to be socially responsible and to take care of the well-being of their employees and vulnerable local communities. To put it another way, businesses can — but are hardly obliged to — be socially active, and this will ultimately lead to increased profitability (Tepper, 2020). In addition, industries often consume natural resources and pollute areas. In these cases, governments should force companies to be socially and environmentally responsible through the creation of additional taxes and requirements for proper disposal. This is necessary so that companies minimize their damage to the environment.
