Nice start. You described the marshmallow study as experimental. Were participants randomly assigned to different conditions? How were the attentional conditions manipulated and how were the rewards were presented in each condition?
The description of the age range is a bit confusing (3 to 5 years and 8 months; middle age of 4 years and 6 months).  What is the range of ages, and how were children recruited?
I look forward to your update!

This week, we are discussing specialized research designs that we often see in behavioral studies.  Watch the following excerpts from psychology studies and read the article associated with the video (You may want to watch the video first).
Make sure to read and report on the article as that is the real study. Some of the videos are fun footage of a similar experiment for you to have a visual but may not follow the same protocols as in the research articles.

Report the following items on any TWO of these research studies (label them 1 – 7 for clarity) by Wednesday:

Reference:  The APA reference for the study

Hypothesis: The study’s primary hypothesis (you only need to report 1) and the null hypothesis (You may need to come up with this yourself as it may not be clearly stated in the paper).

Variables: The Independent Variable (IV) and Dependent Variable (DV)s from the stated hypothesis along with how the IV and DVs were operationalized (measured). Be consistent in the wording you use for the hypothesis and variables.

Type of research: Describe the type of research that was conducted.  Include the design and approach, and any relevant information for that type of study. Be as detailed as you can be, by using the information in the textbook to help you identify the study designs. Developmental designs should also include aspects specific to those designs.

Participants: Describe the participants included in the study.

Procedures: Describe the procedures, and what happened, in the study. Make sure to fully describe the procedures in your own words.

Measures/Materials: The measures or materials used to collect the data for the IV and DV. Discuss what was done (or not done) to establish the reliability and validity of the measures. List each type of measurement used, what it measured, and the reliability and validity of that measure. Note how the measure or assessment tool evaluated the variables.

For this Discussion Board, please answer BOTH prompts A and B. (A) Your text and lesson PowerPoint outline three main categories of educational programs for students who are at risk of underperformance in school.  For Part A of this discussion, select one (1) of the three categories to discuss in depth.
Briefly discuss how this category of programs addresses the need of at risk students.
Then, choose two (2) specific programs available under the category you have chosen and describe these programs.  In your discussion, be sure to address proven effectiveness for the at risk population for the programs you have chosen.
Provide a supplementary link for each program you have chosen to a study or article that supports the effectiveness of the program.

Example: (Category – Early Intervention Programs, two possible programs to discuss – Birth to 3, Nurse-Family Partnerships).  Each state has different programs available for all the categories that you have discussed.  An internet search will help provide you with different programs to choose from each category. If possible, select programs from the state in which you reside.

(B) Your text and lesson PowerPoint emphasize several different ways in which students can be grouped to accommodate achievement differences and promote optimal student success.  However, there are pros and cons to each method of grouping.  For Part B of this discussion:
After reading about the different forms of groups, select the form of grouping that you believe most effectively promotes student success.
Discuss the benefits of the form of grouping you have selected, as well as some of the controversies surrounding this practice.
Be sure to include properly cited scholarly sources.

he resources this week discuss direct instruction and constructivist learning.  For this discussion, compare and contrast these two forms of teaching.  Within your discussion, be sure to address the following questions:
What are the central concepts of each method?
What do you feel is the single most salient benefit for each method of teaching?  The most notable disadvantage?
Does the appropriateness of using either of these primary teaching methods change according to student age level?  Consider the grade level that you are most likely to teach (or currently work with if you are already teaching) and discuss which method you feel would be more appropriate for this level.
And finally, which method would you rely on more heavily as an intentional teacher?  Why?
Be sure to include properly cited scholarly sources.

Here are my recommendations on recording your presentation:

Here are my guidelines on preparing your oral presentation:
HN450: Honors Program Research Seminar—Oral Presentation Guidelines
Your oral presentation should be 10 minutes in length—no shorter or longer. When preparing your speech, be sure to include the following:
·        Introduce yourself and come up with an attention-getting introduction. Feel free to involve the audience into your presentation at the beginning (or at any point).
·        Provide a brief outline of what your presentation will cover (agenda or outline slide)
·        Give the presentation itself with all the details, which include:
o  Statement of the Problem your research is exploring
o  Overview of most important key points of Literature Review
o  Discussion of your methodology—give good details because you need to justify why this study would be done
·        Conclude thoughtfully. Here you should end strongly, being an advocate for your proposed study
·        Ask the audience if there are questions
Tips for the presentation:
–         You should include the following from Chapter 1: Problem Statement and Purpose Statement
–         Include only the most important points from Chapter 2 – it will be tempting to include lots from your secondary research, but limit yourself to no more than 2-3 minutes here
–         From Chapter 3, you should emphasize ALL the parts—this is what you are “selling” to the audience; be sure to focus on methods because the audience will determine if you proposal is “approved” or not
You must have a PowerPoint presentation for this speech; you may also create a Prezi (www.prezi.com). There is no particular number of slides you must have, but you should create a PowerPoint that observes the following rules and guidelines:
·        Use high quality photos
·        Don’t make the slides too “busy” with elaborate shapes, designs, and pictures
·        Don’t try to dazzle the audience with lots of different colors
·        Keep the words on your slide brief and to a minimum.
o  Don’t have more than five or six lines of type
o  Don’t have more than six or seven words in each line
o  Don’t use more than four or five bullet points
o  Don’t write all words in capital letters
o  Don’t use too many different fonts
Be sure to have the following slides in your presentation:
·        Title slide: Include presentation name, your name, class name, instructor name
·        Outline slide: Give a brief outline of what your presentation will cover in bullet points
·        Body slides: These slides should have headings that describe what your current point is with bullet points and/or photographs to orient the reader
·        Conclusion slide: Sum up your presentation
·        Sources slide: Cite the sources of your information for your presentation

You should be prepared to give this presentation beforehand. You should also rehearse. Be sure to bring your notes with you the day of the presentation.
Your purpose is to inform your audience about your personal project for this semester.
Your audience for this speech is your instructor and classmates. Pretend that your audience doesn’t know anything (even if you think they might). This will help you be as descriptive as possible.
During your presentation, you will be put in Presenter mode, so you can navigate your own slides. You should also be sure that you have a working microphone and camera–you will be asked to be on camera for your presentation.
Here is a template you can use to prepare your slides:

Social workers are expected to advocate for and on behalf of clients. Currentl

Social workers are expected to advocate for and on behalf of clients. Currently, Delaware’s Criminal Justice system is unfair and unjust. For example, African Americans make up between 22% and 24% of the state’s population but 60% of the inmates in prison. Furthermore, approximately 75% of the youth in juvenile justice system are Black.
Briefly describe a situation in the text where Bryan Stevenson: a) advocated for a client (other than Trina, Ian, and Antonio); and, b) advocated for a community.
To advocate for prison reform in Delaware, write a letter to the Attorney General requesting her support to: a) Reform Delaware’s Criminal Code; and, 2) Reform Delaware’s Bail system. Of course you will have to research information regarding these two issues.

To prepare for this Discussion:
Review Chapter 9 of the Ravitch and Carl text

To prepare for this Discussion:
Review Chapter 9 of the Ravitch and Carl text and Chapter 12 of the Rubin and Rubin text and consider the differences in coding, categories, and themes.
Use the Course Guide and Assignment Help found in this week’s Learning Resources to search for books, encyclopedias and articles related to coding, categories, and themes in qualitative research.
Review your coding of your phone interview transcript. Identify two or more codes that could be grouped into a category. Next, identify samples of text you chose to define the codes.
Do the same for one of the Scholars of Change videos that you coded.
Consider if you can detect a theme emerging from your data analysis process. If you can identify a theme, name and describe it. If you cannot, consider why this is the case.
Post an explanation of the differences between codes, categories, and themes. Provide examples from your work. Use your Learning Resources and the article you found to support your explanation.
Be sure to support your main post and response post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA style.

2.    Create a flyer advertising the group start and number of sessions (10), and place, contact person etc.
3.    Setting: Discuss the type of agency or organization in which the group will be taking place.
4.    Population: The demographics you are serving? (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity, race, SES, ability, etc.) Be specific – is the group homogenous or heterogenous in its composition?
5.    Rationale: Why is this particular themed group needed and also appropriate for 2, 3, and 4? Have a clear and convincing rationale for your group.
6.    Recruitment & Screening: How will you recruit members? How will you screen members? What are your main selection criteria?
7.    Theoretical Orientation: Which theoretical approach are you taking for your group? (this should provide a focus for the work you plan to be doing and associated major techniques)
8.    Goals: What are the goals for the group as a whole? What are two examples of specific goals for members? Are the goals and objectives specific? How will these goals be accomplished in a group setting?
9.    Treatment Strategies: Based on the theoretical approach you are taking provide 3 treatment strategies or techniques you plan to employ? (These must be appropriate for the content and participants of your group as identified)
10.  Theoretical Stages: Apply the theoretical stages to your group and show how the stages apply to your particular group and group theoretical perspective. Describe the issues you expect to arise in each stage and how you will deal with them. You will need to show how you plan to address the common issues present at each stage, but specifically show how your theme, setting, and population will make for unique challenges and how you propose to deal with them. Include specific group facilitator techniques and or techniques from your chosen theoretical approach to your group.
11. Evaluation: Create an objective 8 item evaluation tool for the effectiveness of your group? What evaluation procedures are in your plan? Once the group ends, document the methods you will use to assess the overall effectiveness of the group?
