Students will write a final reflection essay based on our common reading in the form of a literature review. This assignment is meant to be a reflection on the combined elements of the course with a focus on the broader societal landscape which public policy engages in and affects directly. This assignment is meant to pull all of our work this semester together and provide a space to reflect on the impacts of public policy in the American political system today.
After carefully reading Deborah Stone’s “The Samaritan’s Dilemma” students are to craft a 1000-word literature review in essay format. The four components you must address for this book review are:
A. Content Summary- Give a detailed summary of the book’s themes, authorial intention, scope, method, and findings. (roughly 250 original words)
B. Course Application- Link the book to at least one chapter from “Policy Paradox” AND one of your chosen policies submitted in your Policy Analysis essays. You may build on both your previous Discussion Board posting, if you choose to link the same chapter. In building on your chapter work from the Discussion Board and on your chosen policy from your Policy Analysis paper, use MLA parenthetical citation where appropriate, to show where your course material coincided with the “Samaritan’s Dilemma” book. (~250 original words)
C. Scholarly Conversation- Find at least one academic journal article from the TWU Library databases which discusses this book specifically and analyze your academic source in light of your reading of the book. (~250 original words)
D. Personal Reaction- Describe your personal reaction to the book’s content in light of our current political climate, personal experiences, thoughts, and research. (~250 original words)
