The management of the economy is a central concern of government. It is the area

The management of the economy is a central concern of government. It is the area of policy making on which governments are most frequently evaluated by their citizens. That is true not only because of the direct importance of the issue to citizens but also because of the frequent reporting of standard indicators such as the inflation rate and the level of unemployment. Even if an individual has a job and an income that keeps pace with the cost of living, he or she may believe that the Mayor is not doing a good job because of the aggregate numbers that regularly appear in the newspapers. The extent to which the performance of the economy is now laid at the feet of government, especially the Mayor, is in marked contrast to the era before the Great Depression, when the economy was not believed to be controllable by government. The Mayor clearly plays a crucial role in economic management because of their role as spokesman for government, because of the importance of the budget in controlling the economy, and because of the influence on other areas of economic policy such as taxation.
Finally, citizens have a substantial impact on the state of the economy. Many decisions on fiscal policy depend on citizens’ responding in the predicted fashion. Even major aggregates, such as economic growth, depend to a great extent on the perceptions and behaviors of citizens—citizen confidence is as good an economic indicator as many more objective ones. If citizens and businesses believe that prosperity is coming, they will be willing to invest and may make their belief a self-fulfilling prophecy. Government can do everything in its power to try to influence the behavior of citizens, but ultimately most decisions are beyond its control. Even so, the success of economic policy is a major factor in whether citizens believe that government is doing a good job.
Select a past or current economic policy in your hometown (TIF, Grants, etc) and describe it. How successful is it? What went right or wrong? How would you have handled it?

Eni is Italy’s largest and most profitable company. The case traces Eni’s 50-yea

Eni is Italy’s largest and most profitable company. The case traces Eni’s 50-year history from its founding as a state-owned oil and gas company, through its privatization and restructuring during the 1990s, to its growth and success under its present CEO, Vittorio Mincato. The case surveys the state of Eni during the early part of 2003 and considers some of the challenges facing Mr. Mincato as he seeks to sustain and continue Eni’s outstanding financial and operating performance under a strategy of “disciplined growth” and “core business focus.” The case deals with the analysis of corporate strategy for a large corporation. (By 2003, Eni was among the top-50 global corporations whether measured by sales or market capitalization.) Eni is vertically integrated, international, and diversified across several industrial sectors. The case requires students to identify and analyze the rationale behind Eni’s current corporate strategy and make recommendations for how Eni should allocate its resources across its different vertical levels, business sectors, and geographical areas of operation in the future. A key challenge of the case is that Eni is currently performing exceptionally well. Hence, there is a tendency among many students to recommend “Keep up the good work, Mr. Mincato” without looking deeply at the company and its business. In fact, Eni faces a number of key challenges, which must be addressed if Eni’s recent success is to be sustained. This case is used to develop students’ skills in the following: Identifying, articulating, and analyzing a company’s corporate strategy. Analyzing the fit between a company’s corporate strategy and (a) its external environment and (b) its resources and capabilities Combining quantitative, qualitative, and historical information to build a profile of a company’s resources and capabilities. Examining the structure, systems, and culture that an organization needs to support its corporate strategy. 1- What is Eni’s corporate strategy? 2- Evaluate Eni’s corporate strategy. How well aligned is Eni’s strategy with (a) the characteristics and requirements of its industry environment and (b) Eni’s resources and capabilities? 3- Looking ahead over Eni’s next four-year planning period (2004–7), what are the main issues that face the company? How should Eni allocate its resources across its different businesses and between different geographical areas? In particular: a) Should Eni divest its chemicals business? What about its engineering, construction, and oilfield services subsidiaries? b) Should Eni seek to establish itself as a major supplier of electrical power? Should it invest in renewable energy sources (e.g. wind power)? c) What should Eni’s international strategy be – especially in relation to its downstream businesses (Refining and Marketing; Gas and Power)? 4- What organizational changes should Mincato pioneer, especially with regard to organizational structure, management systems, and corporate culture? Note: Answer the Critical Thinking Assignment mainly based on the Module 9 Case . Chapter 5 ” Analyzing Resources and Capabilities” of the textbook is also relevant to this case. Optionally, feel free to support your reasoning with additional valid academic sources using SEU e-library. This assignment is designed to really make you critically think about “real world issues” in the United States. This topic of gun violence is very near to me and a very hard subject for me as I loss my cousin Tywanza to gun violence. Tywanza, along with 8 other bible study church attendees, was killed by Dylan Roof at the Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston, SC. My peer collaborated article “Armed hate…” explores the risk factors associated with the rise of hate groups and extremism in an effort to contribute to a better understanding of the symptoms of the problem of gun violence. (see manuscript below). For this assignment, read Chapter 6 on Gun Control and my article and complete two steps: 1. Find two journal peer reviewed articles for/against gun control. Based on the articles, what is your perspective and takeaway with the issue of gun violence. Did these articles change your viewpoint? 2. Based on my article, what more in terms of gun control reform/policy would you recommend that was not addressed. Be specific and expound on your answer.

MIAMI BEACH — A court battle was underway Saturday afternoon after three South Beach nightclubs decided to challenge Miami Beach’s newly instated midnight curfew to crack down on spring break. Despite their efforts, the judge denied their request.
According to CBS News Miami’s news partners at The Miami Herald, who first reported the complaint, Miami Beach city spokesperson Melissa Berthier confirmed Saturday that it was filed by the nightclubs M2, Mynt Lounge and Exchange.
The Herald reported that a court hearing was held at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Downtown Miami, where city manager Alina Hudak was on the witness stand and being questioned by attorney Ben Kuehne, who represented the nightclubs.
Miami Beach City Commissioner Alex Fernandez was very outspoken about the situation.
“We have implemented the strictest measures ever to protect life and property from stampedes, the shootings, the stabbings, we’ve seen in past years,” he told CBS News Miami’s Peter D’Oench.
Fernandez had strong words as the City of Miami Beach imposed a midnight curfew for this weekend, which impacts the area between 23rd Street and Government Cut.
