Providing instructions for the evidence summary table and matrix.
This is again,
Providing instructions for the evidence summary table and matrix.
This is again, another individual assignment that will build towards your final group presentation and project. And again, your portion of the summary is going to be compiled with that of the other group members to have your final product be complete. As we move through the summary table and matrix, essentially, it’s going to be summarizing the evidence-based practice articles that you’ve previously appraised. Again, we’re scaffolding, we’re building from one exercise to the next assignment.
During your critical appraisal assignments, you found one research and one non-research article which you did a critical appraisal on. You determined that they were pertinent to answering your EBP question, and those articles will now be summarized in your evidence table. The evidence table will ask you particular questions in the template and, again, completion of the whole template will be reflective of your grades in the rubric.
You’ll use the provided template in the resource section, which will include the level of evidence, quality rating, notes regarding the pertinent factors. Then this individual contribution as stated, will be combined with those of your group. In essence, by the time you get to the final group paper and have to submit your final evidence table, if there are four people in a group, you will have eight articles from your literature review that are all distinct, they’re all different, that are contributing to your evidence-based practice PICOT question. Again, do not include evidence older than five years from the date of publication except for the non-research caveat that if there was a standard of practice, professional organization or guideline that has not been updated in the last five years, then that exception can be made, but everything else should be within the last five years.
The evidence tool, again, will be reflective of the information from the rubric. If you complete everything in the tool, the rubric will then be reflective of that. You’ll be having information including your article summary information, the evidence type, was it a randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis, qualitative, systematic review? Was it a case study? Was it a clinical practice guideline? That’s what the evidence type indication is. What interventions were done or implemented in the study? What comparisons were done in the study? Any pertinent study findings from the PICOT question? Again, this is going to be important when you’re doing your synthesis paper with your group. Pointing out these information now is going to be helpful because you as an individual are going to be the expert on these two articles. So when you talk to your group about what your findings are, putting it in the table here will make it easy to jump out – hitting the high points. Study measures are going to be included. Any limitations, they should always be filled out. There is areas within the appendix E and F where you did your critical appraisal that may have made you note that there were some limitations. Often, researchers will also include limitations in their articles as well. If you didn’t previously pull that out in your critical appraisal of your articles, this is the time to go back and make sure you’ve got that piece.
You also again, want to include the evidence level and quality, making sure that it aligns with the Melnyk model, the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice models, and the exemplars that you’ve been given within the lessons. Then you want to make sure that you include your group contribution notes. Because again, that’s going to be helpful to your group as they go through all of the information that you guys have looked into. Again, when looking at the templates, go step-by-step with roles that include all of the information that is needed for completion as well as the end of each template has instructions with more detail about each section and what should be included in there.
Task
Summarize the EBP articles (2) analyzed from your critical appraisal of the literature
Utilize the template provided in Canvas to complete your submission based on your 2 article review of the literature
Use the provided template in the resources section to review evidence (JH Appendix G)
Include the level of evidence and quality rating as designated in the template for each research study article
Your individual contribution to this portion of the clinical project will be submitted here. This will later be utilized for the final EBP group project submission. When all group members have submitted their individual assignments, there will be a minimum of 8 individual studies per group (2 per group member)
Please do not include evidence older than 5 years from the date of publication.
