Britney is a nurse on the orthopedic unit at a local hospital. She agrees to cover for Paul, another nurse on the unit, during his lunch break. The nursing assistant tells Britney that one of Paul’s patients, 62-year-old female 2 days postoperative for a hip replacement, is complaining of pain in the hip. Britney reviews the medication sheets, finding an order for 50 mg of meperidine every 4 to 6 hours IM or IV push. She notes that the patient received hydrocodone/acetaminophen 10 mg 3 hours ago, with no pain relief. Britney decides to give the meperidine intravenously for better control of the pain. She administers the medication, and 15 minutes later the patient is unable to breathe because of swelling of her throat. The patient is transferred to the intensive care unit and makes a full recovery. Britney reviews the chart, which documents the patient’s allergy to meperidine. The patient had not received the medication during the hospital stay until it was given by Britney. Who has the duty to provide reasonable care in this scenario? Does Paul retain accountability? Did Britney assume accountability? Cite a scholarly reference with page numbers from Nursing Today textbook to support your response. Was there a process problem leading to the problem? Explain in detail. How does professional duty apply in this scenario and how would a breach of professional duty be proved in this scenario? Explore intentional versus unintentional breaches and include a reference to support your response. What damages might the plaintiff claim as a result of the action? Which type of liability might apply in this scenario? Include a scholarly reference.

In Week 4, you will continue to assume the role of the public health informatician and use your pre-intervention asthma surveillance data set from the CDC to calculate risk/odds ratios and prevalence/incidence rates. Review the data set from a population perspective and calculate various population ratios and rates for the asthma data in your Excel spreadsheet. You will then answer the following questions in a short application paper of 3–4-pages, explaining your results. You may refer to the suggested readings for this week. Ratios and Rate Questions [Note: School populations: Asthma elementary student count in this study is 800 for this school year. School’s population (A + B + C + D) = 7,200 students for this school year.] Does one school have a higher number of students with asthma? Which school has the highest number of students with wheezing? How many students had both asthma and wheezing? If you have asthma, what are the odds that you also have wheezing? Is the odds ratio for bronchitis and RAD lower or higher than asthma and wheezing? How many children with wheezing were prescribed medication? From those results, what is the risk ratio? Is the risk ratio for being prescribed medication for asthma higher or lower than being prescribed medication for wheezing? Are the risk ratios for asthma and wheezing higher for children under the age of 10 than they are for the survey population as a whole? What is the student asthma prevalence for the school district, i.e., A, B, C, D based on total student population as shown above? What is the student asthma incident rate for the school district, i.e., A, B, C, D based on total student population as shown above? In a summary, provide your interpretation of what your statistical ratio and rate calculations results demonstrate about this grade school population of students’ asthma risk and odds ratios, prevalence, and incidence rates. Explain how you may use this data in supporting the need and development of a public health asthma prevention program. You may use the prevalence resources in the links provided for your summary response. Submission Details: Give reasons and examples in support of your responses. Cite all sources using APA format.

Assignment Content This journal measures your mastery of ULOs 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3. For this journal, you will submit two items, a PowerPoint presentation and a two-page paper. Your PowerPoint presentation should demonstrate the following with speaker notes as content to support each slide. The presentation should have a minimum of seven slides. Select a distribution (normal, exponential, or Poisson). Display how the distribution is designed and for what it is used. Select a topic and gather data (You can be creative here. You can use collected data from a website or do your own). Examples include blood pressure, SAT scores, or accidents in a city. Other examples are included in the lesson for this unit. Display the data in a table and in the selected distribution. Your examples should include images. In addition to the presentation, write a two-page persuasive and detailed description of your data analysis plan. Your paper should include an introduction, the content of your data analysis in the body, and a conclusion. Also, include a title and a reference page, which do not count towards the two pages. Your paper should include the following: It should demonstrate your understanding of the different types of research methods (distributions) and approaches by explaining your rationale for your selection. It should demonstrate your understanding of data sampling and distributions. Explain your choices and strategy for data analysis. Explain the data sampling and distribution aspects of your plan.

Overview The Portfolio page is the highlight of your portfolio website. It is where you can display a selection of your best graphic design work that will generate interest from your target audience. You will have the opportunity to select and finalize the design artifacts you want to include in your final portfolio in a later course. In this course, you can use the images provided in the Image Bank as placeholders for your design artifacts on the Portfolio page. You can also include your own design artifacts from earlier courses if you prefer. When developing the layout for your Portfolio page, you can choose from a variety of portfolio vehicles, such as a carousel, collage, or image gallery, to display your work. Keep in mind that you may want to add a written description, narrative, or design rationale for each artifact when you finalize your portfolio in a future course. So, you may also want to consider where and how you would present this text on your Portfolio page. Your portfolio site should also provide a way for potential employers and clients to get in touch with you. For example, you should include a Contact page with a form for website visitors to send you a message if they want to reach you. In WordPress (and CampusPress), you can use plug-ins like the Formidable Forms plug-in to add a functional form to your website’s Contact page easily. You can decide which fields you want users to fill out, which ones should be required, and which should be optional. Also, on your Contact page, you can include links to your professional social media profile pages, providing another way for visitors to learn more about you and engage with you. In this activity, you will develop the layouts for the Portfolio page and Contact Information page. You will iterate on these pages to refine them for the project submission in Module Seven. Directions Create the Portfolio page and Contact Information page layouts of your portfolio site in CampusPress. Use the images provided in the image bank in the Supporting Material section below as placeholders for your portfolio pieces. Also, write a short paper to explain your rationale and how you applied web design principles and best practices to these pages to address criteria four and five below. Include the link to your portfolio site in this short paper. Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria: Develop the page layout for your Portfolio page. The page must include a way to display a minimum of 10 design artifacts. Select and upload images from the provided Image Bank to the Media Library. Optional: You can incorporate design artifacts from previous courses into this portfolio. Use the Block Editor tool and the CoBlocks plug-in to add appropriate content blocks for the different page components. Select and develop a portfolio vehicle to display this content. For example, you can create a grid, gallery, carousel, and so forth. Based on the portfolio display vehicle you’ve chosen, consider including placeholders for a written narrative or design rationale that will support your final portfolio pieces. Develop the page layout for your Contact Information page. Use the Formidable Forms plug-in to add a form to your Contact Information page. Customize the contact form components using the Formidable Forms plug-in Modify and enable the Form Description in the General Form Settings field of the plug-in. Save the form and add it to your Contact Information page. Use the Block Editor tool or a plug-in to add any additional content blocks for other page components. Add placeholders or any images you have developed that you may want to include. Consider including other ways to contact you, such as icons to connect to your professional social media profiles. You can use placeholder links to social media websites if you want. Explain your reasoning for choosing the format for displaying the images on your Portfolio page. Identify the format or content block types you added to your Portfolio page. Explain how this format helps you showcase your selected portfolio artifacts. Describe any additional components you used to ensure the Portfolio page is engaging. Explain how you applied web design principles and best practices to these pages. Consider the following in your response: Visual hierarchy Page layout and aesthetics Responsiveness What to Submit Submit a 1-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Include the link to your portfolio site within your short paper for submission. Cite your sources according to MLA style.
