In the content for Week 1, What is an Information System, there are several examples of definitions of information systems. The common theme is that organizations are supported by information systems by holding and enabling the use of data. This week’s reading on Analyzing Process Improvements Supported by IT explains how systems enable communication, collaboration, and workflow throughout an organization. In Section II Process Analysis (Stage 2 Assignment), the focus is on process analysis and improvement as well as benefits of improvements on some specific non-technical areas (Stage 2 Assignment is due at the end of Week 4).
For this week’s discussion, select one of the three areas listed below, and discuss how companies can use information systems and the data within them to address that aspect. Conduct some research and provide specific examples including what companies have focused on in these areas and examples of types of information systems used to gather, analyze and distribute data. Simply typing “use of data to support organizational collaboration” (or whatever aspect you select) into your web browser will produce results but make sure to use relevant and credible sources for this discussion. As examples to help you think about the Stage 2 Assignment, discuss these various aspects, and how companies use information systems to improve in these areas. Select your topic and insert it in the subject line of your response. If possible, select an original topic that has not yet been discussed, in order to provide a variety of examples.

Remember, the Group 4 initial post is due by Friday at midnight. The initial post should be roughly two paragraphs long and supported by external research. Click on “Start a New Thread” to begin your post.
Your posts need to thoroughly respond to the questions and incorporate relevant research correctly. Please refer to previous posts from your classmates before choosing your examples.
If possible, select an original topic that has not yet been discussed, in order to provide a variety of examples.
Then, members of Groups 1, 2, and 3 should reply to at least three different posts by other classmates before Tuesday at midnight. Responses to initial posts should be specific and assess whether the post accurately and sufficiently addresses the questions asked in the discussion topic. Incorporating additional research will strengthen your participation. Assess whether the information is correct or not, and/or complete, and provide correct information to enhance the discussion.
Members of Group 4 should read the discussion and reply to a minimum of two responses.
Since this is a discussion, all students should be aware of any questions that may have been asked, and respond in a timely and respectful manner.
Use the Grading Rubric posted in the Discussion area to ensure your post meets the proper criteria.

IT278M2-2: Administer server roles, features, including storage options and file

IT278M2-2: Administer server roles, features, including storage options and file and folder permissions.
Purpose
Part 1: Windows Server 2016 has multiple roles including storage options useful for most organizations. The first option is local storage including disks and volumes. These can be managed by the Disk administrator. SAN and NAS are also available and can be supported by the Disk administrator or Server Manager. Server Manager is a single centralized interface that includes most selections for a Windows administrator to use for day-to-day tasks such as event logs, diagnostics, user access, and Disk manager.
Part 2: Storage is primarily about physical virtual disks for use in local workstations and servers but also virtual machines using Hyper-V or other virtualization technologies. Storage can be traditional disks and SSDs as well as SAN and NAS provided LUNS and volumes. When properly mounted, all of these can be used via the Disk administrator or Server Manager tool.
Read the assessment and respond to the checklist items based on the reading and learning activities.
Instructions
Part 1: Windows Server Roles and Administrator Practices
Section 1: System Administrator Best Practices
The position of a system administrator can be very complex depending on the work environment. An administrator must constantly maintain the system, but also must be cognizant of the users and the group environment in which they work. Over time, system professionals become aware and implement best practices to demonstrate professionalism in a variety of situations.
Conduct research on best practices for a system administrator in the library or on the Internet. You can also use your own best practices if you have been working in IT. In a minimum 2-page paper, provide and explain three best practices in each of the following areas of a system administrator’s role:
The ability to focus on multiple tasks
The ability to meet deadlines
The ability to utilize system users’ feedback to improve system performance
The ability to balance the quality of work against meeting deadlines
The ability to acknowledge mistakes and correct errors
Section 2: Working With Images
After reviewing all content Lesson 3 in uCertify on Working with Images, write a 2-paragraph summary on configuring Windows Server 2016 using Server Manager, MAP, and Nano images.
Section 3: uCertify Lab
Complete the lab listed below from Lesson 3. You will find the link in this assessment area.
3.5.4 Enabling Windows Features Offline on a WIM
Part 2: Windows Disks, Volumes, and Features
Section 1: Summary
Write a 2-paragraph summary on using traditional storage over VHD or vice versa. Include the pros/cons and features relevant to its use on a current version of Windows Server operating system.
Write a 2-paragraph summary on the basics and use of storage pools in Windows Server 2016 for virtual machines. Detail the benefits and or limitations of its use compared to a method without the use of storage pools.

In this project, you’ll speed up video compression tool. This tool receives a folder with uncompressed image files (“.ppm” extension) and creates a single zip file with all images after compression. The images in the input folder will have the frame number in their file name, and the output zip file follows lexicographical order.
This is a group project. Each group must have at least 3 members and at most 3 members. If you cannot find a group by March 1st, you will be randomly assigned to a random group after that.
Task description
1) Download the starting package here Download here.
2) Unzip, build, and run the tool. You might have to install the zlibLinks to an external site. library.
$ unzip project2.zip
$ cd project2
$ make
$ make test3) Change the code to make it faster using threads. You are only allowed to use the pthread library to this end, nothing else. Using other libraries, changing compiler flags, and other tricks are not allowed. If, at any point in time, your program has more than 20 threads (including the main thread) in execution, your submission will be deemed invalid. In other words, you cannot have more than 20 threads running simultaneously.
Submission
The submission is divided in two parts.
The correctness of your submissions will be automatically evaluated by Gradescope. You must prepare a file named vzip.zip containing a folder named src. This folder must contain your source code in C language (other languages are not allowed) and a Makefile to build the executable named vzip. This code must be buildable and runnable in a Linux environment with a recent version gcc (more precisely, gcc version 11.4.0 with Ubuntu 11.4.0-1ubuntu1 22.04). Your code will be tested in a machine with 4.0 CPU cores and 6.0GB of RAM.
Rubrics
Speeding factor: 50%
Code style: 10%
Presentation: 40%
Getting the code three times faster than the original code will guarantee a C for the speeding factor criterion. The A+ grade (full credit) will be defined by the fastest group in class.
Code style will have deductions for bad indentation and organization, and for the lack of meaningful comments.The speeding factor part of the grade would be computed by the equation: (factor-3)/1.2+7.5
YOU NEED TO GENERATE A FACTOR OF 6 TO GET FULL SCORE.
Extra credit opportunity (20 points)
Your group can implement a visualizer of vzip videos for up to 20 points of extra credit. You do not have to submit it to Gradescope. But you must show your visualizer working during your video presentation and submit its code to Canvas.
Task description:
1) implement a loader for a vzip file that decompresses its frames;
2) show each frame on screen, one after the other, as if you were playing a video.
Important remarks:
1) There is no need to implement control functions (play, stop, rewind, etc). You just have to play the video once, from start to end, once you execute the visualizer for a video file.
2) The visualizer can use any library of your choice (although you must use zlib to decompress the video file).
3) You don’t have to use C language to code it (but the language you choose must support zlib).
4) There is no need to use threads in the visualizer.
5) Please include a README file with instructions to build and run your code in your submission.
