You have been hired by your local school district to do a full evaluation on the district’s failing elementary asthma education program. The program and materials used for the program were created by 3 of the school district nurses about 20 years ago.
The material is dated and is not well received by the students or faculty of the school. A 2 year grant for funding from a local hospital has been awarded to the district and your job is to create and develop a new and improved asthma education program.
Your task is to find up-to-date information about the causes, complications and prevention of asthma.

The industrial plant where you work is expanding its operations and building a facility that will employ 200 new workers. Management has tasked you with creating a training program for the new workers. They want you to investigate a specific hazard or safety topic and create a PowerPoint presentation explaining the hazard/topic and how you will train the employees to handle it. Choose one of the following hazards/topics and prepare a PowerPoint presentation for management:
hearing protection,
the use of half-mask air purifying respirators (APRs),
lockout/tagout of a hydraulic press, or
HazCom for a location that just uses acetone, toluene, and isopropyl alcohol.
As part of this scenario, you are free to include additional details about the hazard/topic you choose. For instance, if you choose hearing protection, you can include information about the manufacturing equipment and the decibel levels in the area.
Include the following components in your PowerPoint presentation:
Conduct a hazard assessment to evaluate the hazard you selected, and discuss any regulations pertaining to the hazard/environment.
What process hazard analysis (PHA) methods will you use to accomplish an effective PHA of your hazard or safety topic?
Will personal protective equipment (PPE) be needed for your hazard or topic? If so, what type?
Explain any additional hazard abatement strategies and safety and health management strategies that could be taken to mitigate the effects of the hazard (e.g., substitution, engineering controls). 
How will the company’s BMS work with PSM and EHS to help minimize incidents involving the hazard? 
Discuss whether or not you will use any hands-on training and how you will perform the hands-on training if you use it. Create two slides that you will use in your actual training program with employees. Explain these to management to convince them that the training is beneficial.
Discuss how managers will play a role in the effectiveness of training and how leadership is necessary to help get employee buy-in for the training.
Use the speaker notes section to explain the material that you present on each of the slides.

Your PowerPoint must include a minimum of eight slides, not counting the title slide or the references slide.

Identify the primary market of the healthcare organization that is serves. Also, identify the sources of income for the healthcare organization. These sections may have some overlap. 
Markets Served – For this section, I want you to discuss what services are the biggest income drivers. Do you have specific services or treatment that drive business?  The markets served section should cover the area your organization serves. What are the largest generator of income? For example, if you are a rehab facility, are the patients there mostly for short-term rehab or long-term rehab? If you are a hospital, do you serve a large number of uninsured patients utilizing the ER? These are just some examples. So not only should this section cover your market area, but you can also discuss the types of services that generate the most income.
Sources of income: Describe your payer-mix.  For example, if a large portion of your patient population are elderly, then most likely, the payer will be Medicare.  But who else?
SWOT Analysis

In this section, you will conduct a SWOT analysis in which you will discuss the current positioning of your organization.  Strengths and opportunities are somewhat related, while weaknesses and threats are also loosely related.
Strengths: Identify their service strategy. How is the organization able to retain their existing market share?
Weaknesses: Identify areas for improvement.  Are there areas of weaknesses if compared to their competitors? 
Opportunities: What opportunities are out there in the market for the organization to capture?  How will the organization grow and expand their market share or to reach into new market territory?
Threats: Think about the competition faced by the organization.  How can the competition faced by the organization erode the company’s past and present successes? Think about internal and external challenges that the organization is facing or may face (i.e. outside competition, federal/state government regulations that pertains to healthcare organization and policies, challenges of internal and external environments)
Action Plan

In a table format, provide the action plan (execution) for the strategic plan.  Categorize your objectives into year 1 objectives, year 2 objectives and year 3 objectives.  The action plan table will include the following columns:
·       Objectives (include the targeted accomplishment date or range)
·       Action steps:  What do you need to do to implement strategy
·       Who will carry out these changes (what is the position title)
·       Resources needed to carry out the changes (i.e. cost, staff, etc.)
