After studying MyPlate and its recommendations of the dietary guidelines and examiningt he ingredients list from the selected food item I would place the Quaker Instant Oatmeal cups under the grain category. The MyPlate helps divide foods into groups based on the nutrients they supply as well as illustrate the appropriate proportions of foods from each food group which help promote health (Grosvenor et al., 2021). One of the main ingredients found in the Quaker InstantOatmeal is whole grain oats, this alone contributes to almost all the dietary guidelines. QuakerOats can provide many nutritious sources for babies such as healthy fats, fiber, and protein. Thisfood supplies essential vitamins and minerals for a well-balanced diet at any age. The addedsugars might be the only negative factor as it is above the 10 percent daily limit for children younger than two.
Some of the key nutrients that should be evaluated in more depth are the total sugars as itconsists of 11 grams with 8 grams of added sugars, this alone goes above the recommendedlimit. This product can meet the low or healthy category of the Nutrient Content Descriptors as itdoes not exceed the daily value for fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, or calories. It is low onfat containing 3 grams or less per serving and it is low on cholesterol. The nutrient density inQuaker Instant Oatmeal would score moderate or high as they are rich in protein and fiber aswell as fat. To boost overall nourishment, I would consume a side of fresh fruit or replace thisitem for plain oatmeal mixed with blueberries and bananas as this would be a healthier optionwith no added sugars aside from the daily intake from a fresh healthy balanced diet. Natural sugar is digested slower and keeps metabolism slable.
