Guidelines In this assignment, you will write a paper that analyzes the Tuskegee Syphilis scenario and how that relates to theory, research, and practice in evidence-based research and its relationship to Informed consent and concepts in the Human Research Protection Foundational Certificates.
Step 1: Read the following Tuskegee scenario.
In the Tuskegee syphilis study, 399 African American men were not told of their diagnosis of syphilis and doctors failed to treat their condition. Instead, doctors used them to study the long term effects of untreated syphilis in black men. This lasted for forty years. The men were not told that they would be a part of a study and informed consents were not obtained. The men were told that they had a “blood disorder”, and doctors intentionally withheld that they were not going to be receiving proper medical treatment. The doctors breached their legal responsibility, and the patients were deprived of their human rights.

Step 3: Review aspects of theories and conceptual models.
Consider the various aspects of a theory and nursing conceptual models and ethics.
Consider the purpose of research and how theory and research work together to support evidence-based practice and ethics.
Think of how theory and nursing conceptual models are related to: Written informed consent? The ability of patients/participants and their right to withdraw from the research study at any time?  The confidentiality and anonymity of the patients/participants being protected? Deceptive practices during clinical practice and/or during research should always be avoided?
Step 4: Write a two-four page paper.
Write a paper that analyzes the importance of theory, research findings, and practice as it relates to evidence-based research and Human Research Protection Foundation Certificates. Then, using the scenario from Step 1 and the article you identified in Step 2, summarize how the aspects of a theory would help support evidence-based research into the problem described in the scenario. Also, describe which nursing conceptual model would be appropriate for research into this problem and why.

Significance of the problem for nursing practice
Review of the literature related to the problem (supported by peer-reviewed references)
Proposed interventions to address the problem – Include alternatives and why you chose one intervention over the other (supported by peer-reviewed references)

Conclusion
APA (7th ed.) format should be followed in the paper. Clear and concise writing is critical to presenting your thoughts. The paper should be 8-10 pages excluding the title page, references, and any appendices (if used). Include any handouts or PowerPoints that you might have used in presenting the project. These will be considered appendices.

My name is SL.  I currently reside in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, but I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.  I have been in the nursing field for 12 years.  I began my nursing journey as an LPN and worked my way up to achieving my BSN-RN license.  I am employed at Ochsner Health in the float pool department.  I float to seven facilities within the organization.  My specialty includes Med/Surg-Tele.  I finally put my fear aside and applied to Herzing University to pursue my master’s degree with a specialty in family nurse practitioner.  Here at Herzing University, I plan to gain as much knowledge and clinical experience as possible to become a prudent healthcare professional.  In this course, I plan to further my understanding of leadership styles and skills to improve safety and provide quality care to patients.  I will better understand how an organization’s finances and healthcare delivery can improve healthcare.
What is my dominant leadership style? I would say I utilize a democratic leadership style. When working with team members, I value open communication and collaboration. Feedback from team members is essential to me before making a decision. This leadership style helps increase employee satisfaction and engagement.  As a democratic leader, it allows me to be fair and team-oriented.  There are a few downfalls to this leadership style.  The downfalls can lead to prolonged decision-making and a few communication gaps.  Leadership is fundamental for professional and organizational commitment, teamwork, and success (Fenta et al., 2023).  Maintaining a positive attitude and remaining open to suggestions will set essential goals and motivate team members to grow.  Also, it can help expedite any decisions that need to be made.  Influencing followers towards specific objectives is vital in leadership. Effective management of human resources, including in health institutions, is crucial for achieving organizational goals (Fenta et al., 2023).  Democratic leadership practices promote cooperation, trust, and a healthy work environment, enhancing employee performance, especially for healthcare workers (Fenta et al., 2023).
