Minecraft and Its Benefits for Students

As a frequent user as a child and from reading the case study on the game Minecraft we can finger out that it is a game where creativity is key, we learn that within the game there are a large range of different blocks in which to use in order to build and protect the game player, all the blocks are formed from different materials and they perform different each other. Through the game it can be used as CAD in the way in which you can build things in a block-by-block form.

Also, the game has to ways in which it can be played, there is one world where it is survival in where players need to make their own tools form collecting different materials in order to produce food. It’s an environment where the players need to be always on the run and thrive as productively as possible given set resources. Those players more successful will be distant from the threat of death (zombies) by having built a castle or an underground base. And in the other hand creative world is where the players are allowed to perform their most creative ideas, there is no need to find all the materials you are given them all and there is no need for survival. The main advantage for creative world is that the players can explore and construct any types of landscapes, buildings, objects that they desire. One of the main advantages of Minecraft that makes it different to the other millions of games that also involve the ability to survive, create and multiplayer is that it is relied on the contributions of the ‘player community’, which was something that was vital when the game was developed by Mojang. Also, another benefit of the game Minecraft is the ability to use it in more than just on platform, the game can be played in phones, tablets and computers meaning that the games can reach a wider audience.

Furthermore, in these two different worlds you can find types of biomes like jungles, oceans, desert. In each one it can be seen as actually being educational for the players and it also contains organisms that would be relatable to life biome. I personally believe that the game Minecraft encourages the creativity side each player for the ability to create their own designs in whichever way they want. It’s also a more affordable was for students to share their creative abilities.

Another important topic to discuss is the teachers within the US, the argue that this type of epistemology to not be able to use. As mentioned in the case study the US digital skills gap is 58% which if you think about it is quite a high number which can only mean that the skills applied is not the problem when it comes to the teaching the students. Minecraft is a game that can be played by any gender therefore it is not advertised towards a certain type of audience.

Overall, the problem that we are coming upon is in which subject category does the game Minecraft fit in and how beneficial is it for the learning of the students. Nowadays it is key for teachers to be teaching students the fundamental requirements of the technology, the technology is becoming more and more integrated in to our lives and it’s the way forward for the future that’s why Minecraft has the ability for students to be creative and apply their creativeness in their everyday life.
