Your Favorite Sport: Descriptive Essay

Basketball is more than just a game to me; it’s a passion that ignites my soul and fills me with a sense of exhilaration. The sound of the ball bouncing on the hardwood floor, the swish of the net as the ball glides through, the cheers and chants of the crowd—it all creates an atmosphere that is electric and captivating. For me, basketball is not just a sport; it’s a way of life.

As I step onto the court, a surge of energy rushes through my body. The smooth surface beneath my sneakers, the scent of freshly polished wood, and the anticipation in the air make me feel alive. I take a deep breath, feeling the coolness of the air fill my lungs, and the tension in my muscles. The court becomes my sanctuary, and the game becomes my language.

The game starts, and I am immersed in a world of strategy, skill, and teamwork. The ball is passed from player to player, each movement precise and deliberate. Every dribble, every pass, and every shot is an opportunity to showcase our abilities and push ourselves to the limit. The fluidity of the game is mesmerizing, as the players move with grace and agility, their bodies in perfect sync with the rhythm of the game.

The pace of the game is relentless, the intensity palpable. We run up and down the court, our hearts pounding in our chests, the sweat dripping down our faces. The adrenaline courses through our veins, fueling our determination and resilience. We dive for loose balls, scramble for rebounds, and defend with unwavering tenacity. In these moments, the game becomes a battle of wills, a test of character and grit.

But basketball is more than just physicality; it is a mental game as well. It requires focus, strategy, and quick thinking. As I analyze the movements of my opponents, I anticipate their next move, seeking opportunities to outsmart them. The court becomes a chessboard, and each play is a calculated move to gain an advantage. It is a constant mental challenge, requiring split-second decision-making and adaptability.

What I love most about basketball is the camaraderie and the sense of belonging it brings. On the court, I am part of a team, a group of individuals who share a common goal. We support and uplift each other, celebrating the successes and picking each other up after failures. The bond forged through countless practices, games, and shared experiences is unbreakable. It is a family, united by a love for the game and a shared pursuit of excellence.

Beyond the court, basketball has taught me valuable life lessons. It has taught me the importance of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. It has shown me that success is not guaranteed, but earned through dedication and relentless effort. It has taught me the power of resilience, as I have faced setbacks and challenges, only to rise stronger and more determined. Basketball has shaped my character, teaching me the value of teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

In the end, basketball is not just a sport; it is an art form. It is a symphony of movement, skill, and passion. It is the embodiment of grace and power, of strategy and athleticism. It is a sport that transcends boundaries and unites people from all walks of life. It is a source of joy, inspiration, and self-expression.

As I step off the court, sweat-soaked and breathless, I carry with me a sense of fulfillment and contentment. Basketball has given me so much more than just a game to play; it has given me a sense of purpose, a community, and a lifelong love for the sport. It has shaped me into the person I am today and continues to fuel my desire to grow, improve, and embrace the challenges that lie ahead.

Basketball is not just my favorite sport; it is a part of who I am. It has woven itself into the fabric of my life, leaving an indelible mark on my heart and soul. Whether I’m on the court or off, the spirit of the game remains with me, a constant reminder of the passion and joy that basketball brings.

Reflection On Romeo and Juliet: Opinion Essay

When my teacher announced to my class that we would be studying Romeo and Juliet, I had established a range of mixed emotions. From what I had heard from when I was younger was that Romeo and Juliet was the most well-known love story of all time, but was it? I remember when I was little my mum would always talk about the true love between Romeo and Juliet. Through having a deeper understanding of what the themes of love and hate have to do with ‘Romeo and Juliet’, I still can’t understand how the play was more than two hours long. Society today see something new and adapt to it and then forget about it and move on, so how can people still care about Romeo and Juliet when it was created four centuries ago?

My teacher wrestled with the class and tried to assure us that there would be more to the Baz Luhrmann’s movie than just watching Leonardo DiCaprio play Romeo and that we would actually learn and understand why people since the 1500’s still read and watched ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The Montague and Capulet feud doesn’t attain anything substantial other than causing a never-ending warfare between the two households. The antagonism that controls both families causes immense pain with the outcome of both children dying. It takes numerous mortalities for the two families to end their lifelong feud. The lesson here is that people should overcome their anger, not focus on something that they don’t even remember why it started in the first place. In the prologue, the opening sentence states “A long-standing hatred between two families erupts into new violence”. William Shakespeare puts this in the prologue to give the audience an understanding of the two families long-lasting feuds and how they will end up resolving the feud in a tragic death of the two desperate lovers. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in this case is relatable to modern society today.

“But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.” Romeo exclaims this metaphor as he relates Juliet to the sun, the light in his life but didn’t they just meet? Romeo’s use of light and dark language towards Juliet and the families shows that he goes from loving Rosaline and saying that she is the only one he loves yet when he lays eyes on Juliet, he instantly starts to be infatuated with her, can’t he just decide who he truly loves? The metaphor of the sun can be interpreted in ways but what I believe is that Romeo finds Juliet the light in his life. Romeo and Juliet’s young love is what I believe keeps making viewers continuously reminisce about their simple true love story.

“If love be rough with you, be rough with love. Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.” The dramatic irony in Act I scene 4 shows that Mercutio and Benvolio think Romeo is still infatuated over Rosaline, but the audience knows he has forgotten her and moved to Juliet. The fact that Juliet disobeys her family’s wishes of marrying Paris and Romeo goes from Rosaline to Juliet shows that the play isn’t all relatable, as arranged marriages aren’t a common thing in society today but it still happens around the world. Countries like India experience unfair laws continuously in their day to day lives. India is one of the countries where the female population is less than the proportion of the male population. The patriarchal society that Juliet lives in is relatable today. Women today are still not seen as equal around the world, women everyday are fighting for equal rights and men are seen overpowering women around the globe. Many factors of the playwright William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet are relevant and relatable. Many factors of the play could be considered very 1500’s especially his use of Shakespearean language in the portrayal of the patriarchal society. Lord Capulet and Paris discuss the marriage of Juliet and Paris when they exclaim “My child is yet a stranger in the world…. Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride. Younger than she are happy mothers made.” Girls who were brought up in a wealthy family during the Shakespearean times didn’t have a choice in choosing who they should love. Marriages weren’t planned to make the couple happy but to rather make the families happy.

The play forces the audience to digest the themes of love and hate. William Shakespeare’s use of imagery and metaphors forces the audience to feel Romeo and Juliet’s true love relationship. Shakespeare uses imagery highlights emotion. In using imagery, he conveys Tybalt’s anger for Romeo’s disturbance, which shows the strain between the two families. In Act 2 scene 2, the imagery is continued, when Romeo is talking to Juliet on the balcony he is looking up at her.

Its everlasting themes of love and hate genuinely allow people to relate to the play. Its unforgettable protagonists deeply affect the minds of the readers. Its magnificent language which many writers today honour in admiration are all reasons for the play’s timelessness. The two “star-crossed” lovers who are forbidden to love each other struggle to comprehend how their families’ feuds would ever come to a conclusion. The play’s universal because people can thoroughly relate to the themes such and love, violence, death and hate and these refrains make up the timeless play. Romeo and Juliet’s timelessness will continue and has developed the ideas that the themes of violence, love and hate will continue to be learnt by students, read by adults, and enjoyed by everyone.

Pros and Cons of Rap Music: Critical Essay

Introduction:

Rap music has been a significant cultural phenomenon since its emergence in the late 1970s. It has had a profound impact on society, shaping music trends, influencing language, and reflecting social issues. However, like any art form, rap music has its share of both positive and negative aspects. This critical essay aims to explore the pros and cons of rap music, providing a balanced analysis of its cultural, social, and artistic significance.

Body:

Expression of Voice and Identity:

One of the strengths of rap music is its ability to provide a platform for marginalized communities to express their voices and share their experiences. Rap artists often use their music to address social and political issues, shed light on inequality, and challenge the status quo. Through powerful lyrics and storytelling, rap music serves as a medium for empowerment and the amplification of diverse perspectives.

Artistic Innovation:

Rap music is known for its rhythmic complexity, lyrical dexterity, and creative wordplay. Artists often employ intricate rhyme schemes, metaphorical language, and storytelling techniques to captivate listeners. The genre has pushed the boundaries of musical innovation, incorporating various styles, samples, and beats from different genres. Rap music’s ability to blend different musical elements has contributed to its popularity and cultural relevance.

Cultural Influence:

Rap music has played a significant role in shaping popular culture and influencing other art forms. Its impact can be seen in fashion trends, dance styles, and even language. Rap music has contributed to the evolution of vernacular expressions, slang, and new vocabulary. It has also provided a voice for urban communities, reflecting their realities and experiences.

Social Commentary and Awareness:

Rap music often serves as a platform for social commentary, shedding light on important issues such as racism, police brutality, poverty, and systemic injustice. Through their lyrics, rap artists have sparked conversations and raised awareness about these pressing societal concerns. The genre has the potential to inspire change, provoke critical thinking, and encourage dialogue around important social issues.

Misogyny and Negative Stereotypes:

One of the criticisms of rap music revolves around its portrayal of women and the perpetuation of negative stereotypes. Some rap lyrics contain misogynistic language, objectify women, and promote harmful attitudes towards gender relations. These elements can reinforce negative stereotypes and contribute to a culture of sexism and disrespect.

Violence and Drug Culture:

Another critique of rap music is its association with violence and drug culture. Some rap lyrics glorify or romanticize violence, drug use, and criminal activities. While not all rap music perpetuates these themes, the presence of explicit and graphic content in certain songs can have a negative impact on impressionable audiences, particularly young listeners.

Conclusion:

Rap music is a complex and multifaceted genre that has had both positive and negative effects on society. Its ability to provide a platform for marginalized voices, promote artistic innovation, and raise awareness of social issues is commendable. However, it is important to recognize and critically analyze the negative aspects, such as the perpetuation of misogyny, negative stereotypes, and glorification of violence. By engaging in thoughtful discussions and promoting responsible consumption, society can appreciate the artistic value of rap music while also addressing its shortcomings.

Personal Narrative Essay on a Pencil

A full moon is so romantic and mystical. I used to look up into the night sky and think what a beautiful subject it would make for my next drawing until one day I decided to give it a try. With all its craters and shadows, I decided that colored pencils in shades of black and gray would give the most dramatic effect, especially against black paper. I was so thrilled at how this black paper drawing turned out, that I decided I had to share with you how to make it.

If you’re new to colored pencils, this is a good drawing to start with. The moon is an easy shape and by using a limited palette with just a few pencils, you can quickly get the feel for how these versatile tools work. I recommend the Arteza Professional Colored Pencil sets, as each pencil has a dense core, that is highly pigmented. This allows for making light and dark layers to build the color to just the right shade.

In the center of the page, I make a light sketch of a moon and its craters.

Using a ruler and a white pencil, I drew a frame along the edges of the paper and then filled it in with white.

The moon is divided into parts according to which side the light is shining on it. By changing the tones of the colors, you’ll be able to place your shadows correctly. I started by using a dark gray pencil to indicate the moon’s dark side, then layered a grayish-green over the middle.

To show the moon’s bright side, I marked its outline in order to make a smooth transition from dark to light. Using a white pencil, I marked the lightest parts of the picture. To create volume, I went over the white area with gray for the craters and to give an uneven appearance to its surface.

Now the fun part! I started drawing craters. Since craters are indentated in the lunar landscape, there will be quite a bit of tonal variations. To create them, I kept in mind the principle of chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is the technique used to create the contrast between light and shadow. This contrast goes from extremely light (white) to extraordinarily dark (black) which gives the subtle shading of light falling from a certain direction onto a surface.

To get this effect I used light gray first and created the craters on the bright side. Next, I drew its darker side with dark gray, adding light pencil strokes around the craters to create a contrast. Since they are not smooth, I drew black dots on top of a white pencil to add texture.

Now it was time to go over the entire moon. I did this by carefully hatching it according to its shape. By coloring in layers, I gave the moon even more contrast. Using the brush on the end of the eraser, I made more variations on the dark side.

I wanted this moon to really stand out against the black space behind it, so I used lilac, blue, purple, white, and pink for the colors of outer space. I drew the nebula as if it were wrapping around the moon. To make the nebula smoother, I blended the pencils and gave it additional volume with a white pencil. I outlined where the light fell. This made the nebula in front of the moon brighter and richer than the one behind it.

To make this drawing more realistic, I placed clouds and stars in the nebula throughout the picture. I purposely didn’t make them pure white but tried to make them in the shades of the picture.

Before I could call this drawing complete, I stood back to see where else I needed contrast and extra details.

I think it turned out quite striking and true to the moon I see in the sky through my telescope!

Descriptive Essay on the Essence of Astrology

There are many places today where you can check the daily horoscopes in newspapers, magazines, and online websites. The astrologers carefully research horoscopes by analyzing and interpreting the position of the planets and the stars during a specific day. The study of constellations has contributed to the growth and resulting knowledge in the astrology field. Astrology has evolved over the years and analyzing the relationship between constellations and horoscopes shows that they share the same history and future. Have you ever thought about the meaning of the zodiac signs? Horoscope predictions are always advertised whenever we switch on the television. Some people also read the horoscopes first in a newspaper. They relate the events of the day or week to the predictions revealed by the horoscope. This phenomenon has been practiced for a long time now and the growth has led to continued progress in the field (Oestmann, Darrel, and Stuckrad, 2012).

Astrologers continue to believe there is a connection between the position and the movement of the celestial bodies. They understand that humans are part of the universe’s story and therefore focus on the patterns, relationships, and cycles to understand their philosophical nature. Many people nowadays believe astrology is superstitious while others do not see the need for it to be published regularly. The good thing is that from the old days, it has helped humans predict activities of the environment and their life. For instance, the early astrologers looked at the sun or the moon’s size to tell when an expectant woman would deliver or when to plant their crops. They related the behavior of the celestial bodies to a place in their lives (Barton, 2002). This gave them a sense of belonging through a strong connection with the universe. The astrologers claim they can predict every human behavior using the planets and stars.

The stars are one of the most common bodies that humans have turned to for certain answers in their lives. In ancient cultures, astrology was manifested in the form of different beliefs depending on the location of the astrologer. For instance, it was used to predict the future of the emperors in the Roman Empire. Astrology dates back to 2500 BC although the earliest people to implement it in their lives were the Mesopotamians. These people used their earliest forms of civilization to identify and name the constellations of the stars in the galaxy. The Babylonians living in Mesopotamia are regarded as the first great astrologers who introduced the number system used in modern astronomical measurements to represent minutes and seconds. The concept of the zodiac in use today was introduced by the Babylonians. Most of the astrologers in this era claimed to interpret the positions and movements of the celestial bodies through dreams revealed to them by the gods (Beck, 2008).

The Greeks continued to advance astrology along with medicine, mathematics, geometry, and philosophy. This was the first instance in which astrologers started to read horoscopes and believe in the origin of the human soul to the stars. The invented Greek literature helped to name the planets and zodiac signs the way they are today. Astrology continued to flourish to form a crucial aspect of culture and was used by mathematicians, doctors, and astronomers. More accurate and sophisticated charts were invented through advances in mathematics (Barton,2002).

Astrologers have also claimed for centuries that the relative position of the planets, sun, and moon at the time of birth of a person have a direct influence on their character traits. These include personality, economic fortunes, romantic relationships, and other divinations. They believe the relative position of the celestial bodies affects the individual’s destiny but still acknowledge how the power of free will also contributes to shaping one’s life. Astrology uses elaborate systems arranged in an easy format for people to understand and interpret thus offering insights into the lives of humans. Other elements such as angles and houses are combined with the planets and signs to predict a specific and complex profile of an individual’s life, personality and prospects.

The early astrologers associated the constellations in the narrow belt to dates of the month. The zodiac signs represent the elements: air, fire, earth, and water. Fire focuses on the transformation of energy from one form to the other. It represents a positive element of human life. Another positive element is the air which is concerned with the spiritual life. On the other hand, the earth is a negative element that is solid and appeals to humans on earth. Water also represents a negative element that continues to be mysterious (D’zmura, 2004). Astrologers claim to possess the knowledge to interpret one’s life using the zodiac signs. They can foresee the mood changes in a person, the type of spouse one will marry and the sport they are most likely to excel in. These predictions are bound to be true or never happen. It’s not all astrologers who have the necessary knowledge and interpretation skills to predict one’s future. Also, it is not all people who believe in astrology, others just enjoy reading their horoscopes for fun.

Astrology provides humans with future information and is the reason why one feels satisfied after visiting an astrologer. For instance, when an astrologer holds the believer’s hand and explains the connection between them and the entire cosmos, the believer experiences a sense of belonging with the universe. The astrologer may not accurately predict one’s future but make them feel like they have benefited. There is a glorifying connection between the believer and the universe and this makes them feel free from external forces. The interpretation given by the astrologer may be general and vague. This information is beneficial to people who depend on others to show attention to their problems. The astrologer’s advice is better than no advice at all and can help the believer face the future with courage depending on the interpretation provided. Astrology is also a lifesaver because it gives advice, precautions, and suggestions that can help shape someone’s future positively (Carey, 2010). For instance, an astrologer may tell the individual to be careful at the workplace when dealing with superiors for the entire month. If the individual follows this advice, he or she stands to lose nothing. Many people also believe in astrology because it can help reveal strengths that need to be polished. It can also act as a mirror to reveal weaknesses that one did not know exist in their life and work towards improving them.

The role of celestial bodies in our universe can never be undermined. Studies carried out indicate that the behavior of the weather and earthquakes can be determined by looking closely at the other planets. However, this study is in the first phase and will work to prevent damage and loss of human lives through catastrophic events. Soon, astrologers will be able to alert people of earthquakes and hurricanes so that damage control can be effective. Many lives will be saved as these facts will be shared with the relevant authorities for the right actions to be taken. Astrology is an interesting topic and career to those that seek a deeper connection with the activities of the celestial bodies. There is continued research into astrology to advance it and ensure it continues to help humans in their everyday activities (Page, 2002).

A birth chart reveals important messages about our strengths, weaknesses, personal relationships, and all the other things that feed one’s soul within a lifetime. The readings from the chart can yield spiritual growth when one learns about the placement of the planets and the stars at the time of birth. Every human being has a unique birth chart that reveals the position of the celestial bodies at the exact day and time of birth. The information can uncover a lot about a person and the reason for their existence in the earth (Marks, 2008). This is the reason why most people find them accurate and essential in life. Our birth charts can be used to show us the right path to take to achieve career dreams. If your interest is in playing football, you may learn a lot about how to fit in the sports world and what needs to be done to illuminate the footballing path. The position of the celestial bodies at a certain time of birth is different from others and this means the career path of everyone is unique. They help one feel comfortable in their skin as well as embrace individuality. One may also be able to find out what kind of activities are natural to them and what is required to acquire more. The information can reveal the type of experiences shaping one into a stronger being as well as the places and people to stay away from. The best thing about the birth chart is the fact that it is completely honest to give both the positive and negative elements shaping one’s personality. It is an important tool that should not be taken too seriously as it only works well to help an individual grow spiritually and grasp the relevant life lessons.

The birth chart reveals three important signs: the sun, moon, and rising signs. The sun sign refers to the zodiac sign assumed by the sun during the birth of an individual. For instance, if one’s birthday is May 24th, the sun sign is a Gemini because that is the shape observed at birth. The other two signs are also important in conveying a comprehensive chart regarding one’s character. The moon sign refers to the self-instincts which might not be observed by other people. This can be defined as where one heads to for inner peace and relaxation from the continued pressures in life. The birth chart can greatly influence one’s character because it takes charge of the emotional development of an individual. Most astrologers acknowledge the fact that the moon sign accurately explains who one is but a combination of the three signs explains the comprehensive essence of the individual on earth. The North Node is very important and should be keenly observed because it reveals the necessary experiences leading to continued growth. The South Node, on the other hand, reveals the mastered qualities and directly relates to the North Node. The placement of the houses in the twelve zodiac signs is determined by the 24-hour rotation of the earth around its axis. The reason why twins born at different times have different birth charts is that the earth is in continuous motion at any given time. To interpret a birth chart, one needs to input the name, date of birth, gender as well as city, and state of birth. The positions of the planets help in the creation of a table arranged according to the sign and degree (Marks, 2008).

Ever experienced a period in which everything you do seems wrong or non-effective? There are many people across the world whose luggage gets lost in an airport, miss their flights, and send emails to the wrong people only to blame it on Mercury retrograde. According to many astrologers, Mercury rules the intelligence, communication, and timing of all the activities on earth. The lives of humans tend to go as unexpected when the speediest planets such as Mercury retrograde. This causes communication problems, travel issues, and technological mishaps. These incidences cause major inconvenience to people who rely on them daily (Wieczorek et. al, 2012).

The name retrograde is however deceptive in meaning. Mercury does not reverse on its orbit but refers to an optical illusion from the earth that make it look like it is revolving backward along its axis. This illusion of backward movement is the same as when one is driving faster than the car beside them. The individual in the faster car feels as if the slower vehicle is moving backward, but it is just because it is slower. It is this backward motion that is perceived to slow down the main activities carried out by human beings. People lose things, things break, projects are delayed and breakups occur during the Mercury retrograde. This causes frustrations as things fail to occur in the usual way causing them to lash out due to the areas affected (Wieczorek et. al, 2012).

The feeling during a Mercury retrograde is like it is shaking up the entire world to affect human activities. For those who believe in the phenomenon, the best thing includes knowing the actions to take upon facing Mercury retrograde. Those who believe in the phenomenon are keen to take note of certain events and the way they occur. Most of them handle the situation by first taking a deep breath despite the terror and frustration that comes with the cycle. It is a period to take a lot of caution when carrying out tasks to avoid further damage on the individual, their work or colleagues. At this time, people are advised to avoid buying new phones, take care when driving, double-check flight times and avoid conversations that affect relationships. This is the perfect time to halt, reevaluate and stall life-altering decisions.

Synthesis Essay on ‘South Park’

Introduction:

In this essay, the definition of gentrification and how it evolved over time will be discussed as well as where it originated from. Additionally, case studies will be provided to discuss the status of gentrification in Toronto. Gentrification nowadays is a very important topic to discuss. It affects everyone not only low-income people but also middle-class people. Investments are done in poor neighborhood areas forcing poor people to be displaced while the middle class and rich people will move to the gentrified areas. As a result of this, low-income people will be affected by this change and have no place to stay. On the other hand, Middle class and rich-class citizens will benefit from this change.

Over the past several decades, many cities experienced population, as well as socioeconomic declines, and underwent a reversal. Studies have shown that this phenomenon is known as gentrification. What is gentrification? Gentrification is the movement of middle- and upper-class residents into and renewal of neighborhoods that have been impacted as a result of disinvestment and decline. It also is the process of residential selection where the government and households make decisions to invest in the neighborhood. Important factors that can be used in residential selection can be as availability of services nearby, school quality, crime rate, and ethnicity. Hackworth and Smith have contributed a lot to gentrification studies and understanding more about it. It was concluded in their studies that gentrification can’t be reduced to the neighborhood level, it resulted from the historical transformation. The word gentrification evolved over time by different people. For instance, Neil Smith first described it as a global strategy. As explained earlier in the paper, the word gentrification is the local process related to neighborhood social class and the transformation of market property such as investments. Now it is seen as a global fact in that it is geographically all-over according to Atkinson and Bridge. Gentrification is also found at every level of the world’s urban hierarchy (bridge et al). In addition to this, it is also related to transcultural identity (Danyluk and Ley). The word Gentrification came to light by the British-German sociologist Ruth Glass. In his famous passage, he first described the term gentrification as following the takeover of working-class cottages and houses by the middle-class ones in London.

Body

This example talks about a remarkable gentrification case in Toronto, South Parkdale. South Parkdale was known as one of Toronto’s commuter suburbs and had different facilities nearby such as railway and streetcars. South Parkdale was known as the village by the lake, as it had an outstanding view of the lake as well as terraces. Most of the mansions were occupied by upper-middle-class citizens. All of this drastically changed within a glimpse in the 1950s, as the investors focused more on the suburban expansion in Toronto, it then became a very important site. Not only this but also, between 1955 and 1964, South Parkdale was undergoing a major construction of the Gardiner expressway. By 1959, the expressway separated the residential areas from the lakeshore blocking the views. Not only this but also, the bulldozing of the Sunnyside Amusement Park where 170 houses were destroyed, and the streets were cleared. The city has decided to build high-rise apartments hoping that the residents will stay after they have been impacted by the expressway. It turned out to be the other way around; the majority of the middle classes abandoned the neighborhood. Furthermore, in 1979 the provincial Psychiatric Hospital was shut down and thousands of patients were discharged in south Parkdale in the early 1980s. This led many low-income individuals to move into the neighborhood. The middle-class residents of South Parkdale had no choice but to leave South Parkdale and move into a different neighborhood. Housing was not enough to satisfy the needs of the discharged patients from the hospital and it was estimated that around 1,200 patients lived in South Park Dale. This led to overpopulation in the neighborhood. South Parkdale was home to a very large number of deinstitutionalized patients discharged from the hospital which led to according to the media, a little ghetto of misery. All of this changed in the 1990s when middle-class people decided to enter low-income areas for gentrification as it was found to be a very cheap neighborhood. The westward movement of gentrification throughout the 1990s towards South Parkdale was detected in the growth of artists’ studios, galleries, cafes, shopping malls, and live/workspaces which in return attracted middle-class people to the area.

The second example of gentrification in Toronto would be the Greek town on Danforth. In the present moment, this neighborhood has different ethnicities such as Japanese, Italian, and Cuban commercial restaurants and the Greek population is no longer dominant. Greektown has indeed experienced gentrification over the past 15-20 years which changed the neighborhood significantly in terms of people, businesses, and houses. Greektown was previously named Danforth. A planning firm was hired to redesign the area with a Mediterranean style. The main goal was to attract tourists and new residents and remains until now a very authentic place for Greek festivals. Back in 1884, Greektown started as an undeveloped reception area for many immigrant groups coming to Toronto. It was separated from the city of Toronto by the Don Valley, later in 1918, the Prince Edward Viaduct opened to connect Danforth to the rest of the city. Many residents began to move to areas such as North York, Mississauga, and Scarborough after the mid-1970s. Local business officials decided to change the name of the existing BIA in 1993 which was Danforth to Greektown on the Danforth to attract tourists and residents in the area. Andonis Artemakis the chairperson for the BIA, decided to host two parades every August called Taste of the Danforth as well as provide trolley service to and from hotels in the neighborhood. The number of corporate chains such as Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Second Cup that moved into the neighborhood. The area has experienced an increase in bars, offices, and stores. This shows how the neighborhood has changed over the past 20 years it originally started as an immigrant reception area with a dominant group of Greeks and as the BIA chairperson gentrified the neighborhood by changing the name to Greek on Danforth, hosting parades more often, opening more bars, café such as Tim Hortons has indeed attracted middle-class people to the area.

For the BIA paragraph, due to the state of emergency in Ontario, I have not been able to complete this portion of the paper.

Conclusion

To conclude, gentrification is a very serious topic that needs to be taken into consideration in our society for different reasons such as affecting low-income class people, ethnicity, and the history of the area. How is that done? Low-income people will get displaced from the gentrified neighborhood affecting their livelihoods and getting poor with no place to live in while middle-class people will move into the gentrified area. In addition to this, as discussed in the second case people with different ethnic backgrounds moved into the area which disrupted the cultural history of Greektown on Danforth.

My Love and Interest to Interior Design: Opinion Essay

I would like to explain and remind you how much I love and am interested in interior design because since my municipality I love the design and planning of the blanks and the interior spaces in addition to my appearance in the technical and total aspects as well as the needs of physical and social people I have a passionate colour and study. They are now a source of estimate and a whole. In the opinion of the interior design, one of the engineering fields associated with architecture and functional needs of internal context and the interior design means the development of an indoor system of the activities in the output of the environmental environment to provide and achieve the various humanitarian requirements in the areas of living standing life and the life of the entire distinction and the practical life of their domains, not intermediary designed is to regulate the place of indoor or organization of furniture and distribution, but the interior design means a full plan for its technical components based on several human and engineering sciences between humanity, engineering, technical and technological.

I would like to study interior design to learn to study aesthetic and functional theories, and what is similar to contemporary trends in interior design (ink and in the field of design and industry, furniture, and the materials of handling design and the organization and aerial care for the residential, commercial and administrative and tourist activities for the establishment of the appropriate furniture for those previous establishments, and related to the designs and audiences and the adjustment of the inside of the place; the interior design is performed in the various placements. The health climate is through the good lighting, health ventilation and comfortable colours and designs for furniture are appropriate for its dimensions, and other aspects of technological. My goals are not only limited to a bachelor’s degree but to extend the understanding of interior design towards environmental and social goals.

I made a study of interior design engineering because I wanted to develop my knowledge and guide it with the correct track of interior design. In the future, I intend to help people in my life and aesthetic dental in the decoration and design to help them make their homes and offices attractive as well as granting them what they are looking for because people know the tastes and opinions.

During my studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, the design of printing design gained and developed many skills in different fields of art and design. I’ve got many skills that I can move to interior design. I learned how to do Collage Collage of the Cocoa’s consistency of the most recent concerns between humans, with what has benefits of different installation, which are compiled for multi-sources for the formation of technical work in a new form. This artistic art is known as the art of collage, as the art of collage is from the modern arts that depend on the paste of different scraps. I realized how I could design an abstract image using collage art that would reflect fictionally. The British artist (John Walker) has been in this graphic in his graphics in the late 1970s.

I have also learned how to work with different materials in the recycling unit, the two-dimensional cloth and cloudy, where you learned how to weave and integrate different materials such as wool, plastic, napkins and textile paper on the cardboard. After destruction in the Engineering Department of the Design and Restoration of Heritage and Hurricane Palaces, the art of Moroccan architecture has been found on gypsum or white bleaching. The art of Moroccan architecture from the traditional Islamic arts is the most important of which has been the most important of the years of the old, and the most of the old artists, but the most of the old artists, but their love is more likely to be coshed, and the beauty of the gypsum is not easy as in the sculpture of art. The knowledge of the material in terms of use, the formation of the material in the way in the use, the formation of the material is the humour. The same as the heat, the flexibility of the duration of the use of the manufacturing, the shape of the architectural shapes. The rigidity of circular engineering. The following is the only one who can coordinate the circular engineering shapes, the shape of the entire engineering shapes. The shape of the architectural shapes. Through practical as designed grooming of the group of discussions and design of engineering and vegetarian decorations and the image of the walls and give it small aesthetic workmanship in terms of accuracy and beauty in combination to sync and dimming drilling with a different column.

Problem of People’s Loss of Interest in Supporting Traditional Political Parties

This essay be explaining why so many electorates are losing interest in supporting traditional political parties using evidence from different sources. It will first be talking briefly about the origins and developments of political parties and their position on the political spectrum. Than go on to explain why political parties are so important within society, to understand why electorates are losing interest in political parties we need to understand what other strategies are being used to influence politics and society and what role one of these strategies play in challenging the government. All of these different points will be linked to why there is a decline in support for traditional political parties.

There are many different political ideologies that help make up political parties, the ‘classical’ ideologies are liberalism, conservatism, socialism, nationalism, anarchism and fascism. The ‘new’ political ideologies are feminism, ecologism, religious fundamentalism and multiculturalism, even though these ideologies are defined as new they still were present in the past, they tend to draw ideas from existing ideologies to create a mixed ideology.

The main point at the heart of liberalism is the individual, they aim to create a society that is able to satisfy everyone. The progress of industrialization led liberals to question and revise the ideas of early liberalism. It used to represent the belief in a minimal state with personal security, modern liberalism now accepts that the government should help people to an extent. Liberalism ideology was a result of the breakdown of the feudalism in Europe. Conservatism was used to describe a political position or ideology in the early 19th century, in the UK it replaced the term ‘tory’. Conservatisms main beliefs are human imperfection and the attempt to hold onto the organic structures in society. As a result of conservatism ideology being based around traditional thought it has had to adapt itself to existing traditions and national cultures. Conservatism has been able to continue as an ideology due to its fluidity. These political ideologies one example of the different views these ideologies have is their belief on equality liberals believe that every individual within society is born equal they are born of the same worth. Conservatives believe that society is naturally hierarchal. British politics has mainly been dominated by these two big political parties, other small parties did exist, but they did not have as many supporters.

In the past political parties were used to represent different social classes, people who came from a working-class background tended to vote labor and people whose families owned, or they owned businesses tended to vote for conservative parties. This divide helped form the term ‘left’ and the ‘right’. The ‘left’ side represent ideas about sharing, equality and making sure the less fortunate also get a fair share, it is mainly made up of the different labor parties, social democrats, socialists and communists. The ‘right’ side represent more competition and individual movement, it is mainly made up of conservative parties and liberal parties. These terms dated back to the French Revolution 1889-1796 because aristocracy sat on the right and the commoners sat on the left of the speakers. Since the 1970s the left side is mainly occupied by the green parties, they refer to the political spectrum. According to the British social attitudes survey the number of people willing to acknowledge their class identity is the same, however they are less willing to identify with a certain political party associated with the different classes. In 1987 46% of the people who did this survey said that they identified with a certain political party this percentage went down to around 31%. social class has had an impact on electorates political choices, the different political parties are no longer divided so heavily by social class.

Political parties are very important they bring together groups of individuals who have the same political ideas, they use elections to try and get as many individuals as possible into a representative body. The main function of a political party is to aggregate the diverse interests in society into a political program, simplify electoral choices for individuals, provide coherence to parties by facilitating government, enable individuals to participate in the different policy making processes. Political parties encourage political engagement, they create a balance with the other parties due to negotiations, they have many different functions and have a large importance within society. Individuals within a party are also very important.

“Contemporary societies are characterized by low and declining levels of formal political participation” (Hay, 2007, p. 11). In contemporary society there is less formal political participation however there Is a very clear increase in un-formal political participation. Social media covers a lot of things that happen within society now. The Goldsmiths Anti-Racist Action in London lasted for around 137 days in 2019, this protest was to raise awareness and demand action against the institutional racism in a university, students occupied a key building that was a part of the university of London. It was a successful action and won a range of commitments to tackle the problem. The Black Lives Matter movements have also been exceptionally popular. So, while younger people may not be taking part in formal political activities, they are not being silent they are getting their voice herd in different ways. Which is why Rick Edwards statement claiming, “Your vote is your voice, don’t stay silent” (Edwards, 2015), is not accurate, you do not always have to vote to be heard there are other ways which the younger generation are more active with. The unconventional political participations are very important for a number of reasons: firstly, they make people realize they are not alone, protest movements create a unity secondly by protesting it starts a debate if there is a large number of people pretesting for the same cause the people in power will respond to it, thirdly in electoral democracy it provide an essential voice for the underrepresented groups, they usually end with some form of results, the result may not be the one the group wanted but it will be a result.

Rick Edwards (2005) claims that for years now there has been a steady and worrying decline in the number of young people voting this information is proven with the data provided by the British social attitudes. Their evidence explains why Edwards’s statement is true, according to their information only 45% of the younger population feel it is their civic duty to vote this percentage is the lowest amongst all of the age groups, the age group with the highest percentage is 65 .A reason there could be a decline in the number of young people voting can link to the increase of more unconventional political participation which bypasses the government, political parties and other channels of political expression and protest. “Non-electoral participation has increased over the past 30 years” (Park, A., Bryson, C., Clery, E., Curtice, J. and Phillips, M, 2013, p. 68). A reason for this happening could be the decrease in political trust, 32% of the public never trust the government this percentage has gone up 11% since 1986, the decrease in political trust has been going on a gradual decline for a while and is still declining. Social movements and protest movements have become more aware of the impact and the influence they have within political parties so people may choose to take this route instead of political voting. The most common types of resistance and protests are demonstrations and strikes however lately many people have been using humor to highlight the issues in a non-confrontational way.

Social cleavages also impact the support political parties receive. Social cleavages are historically or socially determined divides within society, these divides often result in political conflicts amongst the different groups. Religion is one example; this type of cleavage is not extremely obvious in the UK because the majority of the public do not associate with any religion in 2017 the independent released a publication on the religion in the UK. They found that 53% of the population in England said they are not religious, this increased 5% since 2015. In the past a person’s social cleavage largely impacted the political party they associated themselves with. Especially class cleavages which links back to my previous point about how certain parties used to represent different social classes. Many people who are religious vote for parties that represent their religion more, as this in turn usually represents the electorates beliefs more. The rise in unconventional political participation has impacted social cleavages, by placing an importance on people’s opinions it reduces the social cleavages that appear within society. There have been many changes to cleavage voting over time, one change was caused by the theory of cognitive mobilization. Social cleavages can also be linked to multiple party systems. This system is when multiple political parties are able to operate in a country, in certain European parliament’s you find coalitions of up to 5 parties. Social cleavages continue to exist within society however some of them are fading due to the decreasing gap between inequalities, with social cleavages declining electorates are taking more individualist approached which can be linked back to reduced participation.

There are many different elements that affect the interest electorates have in traditional political parties, most of the elements that have an impact are to do with society. As society develops and alters the political parties will need to as well so they can maintain high levels of interest.

Why STEM Is Important to Me Essay

Introduction

STEM subjects — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math — are at the forefront of growth and new ideas in today’s world, which changes quickly. This multidisciplinary field not only makes technological progress possible, but it also changes how we think about the world and our place in it.

My interest in STEM started in high school physics, where I was amazed by the beauty of math that could tell me where a projectile would go or how much force a lever would apply.

At first, I was just interested, but now I really understand how important STEM concepts are to many parts of our daily lives, from the computers we use to the medical treatments that save lives. STEAM is more than just a subject for me; it shapes how I see the world and how I want to fit into it. In addition to satisfying my interest, it shows me how I can make a positive difference in the world. I want to explain in this essay why STEM is not only a personal interest of mine but also an important part of my plans for the future.

The Educational Value of STEM

STEM education, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, represents an integrated approach to learning that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. Unlike traditional education models, STEM interweaves these disciplines, emphasizing their interconnectedness and real-world application. This educational framework has been pivotal in my academic journey, transforming how I perceive and interact with the world around me.

My engagement with STEM began as an exploration of curiosity. In early science classes, I was captivated by the systematic unraveling of the natural world, from the laws of physics to the intricacies of biology. Mathematics provided a language to describe these phenomena, while technology and engineering offered the tools to apply them. This holistic approach not only honed my analytical skills but also nurtured a mindset geared towards innovation and inquiry. STEM education has been the cornerstone of my intellectual growth, enabling me to view challenges as opportunities to apply interdisciplinary knowledge.

Looking ahead, my aspirations are deeply rooted in this STEM foundation. I envision a career that allows me to contribute to technological advancements, whether in renewable energy, biotechnology, or artificial intelligence. The problem-solving and analytical skills gained through STEM education are assets I plan to leverage in my future endeavors, aiming to make a tangible impact in my field of choice.

STEM’s Role in the Modern Economy

The significance of STEM fields in today’s economy cannot be overstated. They are the driving force behind innovation and economic growth. Fields like information technology, renewable energy, and biotechnology are not just shaping our future; they are creating it. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, STEM occupations are growing at a rate significantly higher than other fields, highlighting the increasing demand for STEM expertise.

This growth translates into diverse career opportunities and potentially higher incomes for individuals with STEM degrees. The burgeoning demand for skilled professionals in these areas presents a landscape ripe with opportunity for innovation and leadership. For me, this economic reality is a motivator. It reinforces my decision to pursue a STEM-related career, knowing that my skills will be valuable and in demand.

My personal career aspirations in STEM are influenced by this economic landscape. I am inspired to be part of an industry that not only promises personal growth and stability but also contributes significantly to societal advancement. Whether it’s through developing sustainable technologies or improving healthcare systems, my goal is to be at the forefront of STEM fields, utilizing my education and skills to drive progress and prosperity in the modern economy.

STEM and Societal Impact

STEM fields play a pivotal role in shaping society, driving advancements that touch every aspect of our lives. In healthcare, STEM contributes to life-saving medical technologies and treatments, enhancing the quality and longevity of life. In technology, it propels the development of innovative solutions that revolutionize communication, work, and leisure. Environmental solutions, another critical area, benefit from STEM through the creation of sustainable energy sources and strategies to combat climate change. These fields collectively work towards a more efficient, healthier, and sustainable world.

My aspiration is to contribute to these societal advancements through a career in STEM. Particularly, I am drawn to the intersection of technology and environmental sustainability. I envision myself working on projects that harness renewable energy sources or develop technologies to reduce carbon footprints. My goal is to contribute to a sustainable future, using my STEM skills to make a tangible difference in the world.

Challenges and Opportunities in STEM

It hasn’t been easy to pursue a job in STEM. Toggling between theoretical understanding and real-world application was a big problem. As a result, I did internships and hands-on projects that helped me put what I learned in school to problems in the real world. My knowledge and confidence in my ability to make a meaningful contribution in a STEM field were both strengthened by these experiences.

Another aspect close to my heart is the need for diversity and inclusion in STEM. STEM fields greatly benefit from diverse perspectives, yet historically, these fields have not been equally accessible to all. My journey in STEM has been shaped by the mentors and role models who have championed diversity, inspiring me to advocate for inclusive practices in education and the workplace. As I progress in my career, I am committed to fostering an environment where diverse voices are heard and valued, understanding that this diversity is essential for true innovation and progress in STEM.

Conclusion

STEM drives modern innovation by shaping educational paths, economic progress, and societal advancements. My STEM journey, distinguished by curiosity and problem-solving, has shaped my intellectual progress and set my future goals. STEM fuels my love for technology and sustainability and allows me to make a difference in society. I’m excited to continue this path and use STEM to improve the world. With my talents and experience, I want to lead technological innovation and create a sustainable and wealthy future.
