The Improvement Of Suspension System Of Motorcycles

Early Motorcycles were developed after the inventions of bicycles and engines as an attempt to combine the two. In 1770, the first steam powered tricycle was manufactured by Nicolas Joseph Cugnot (3) in France, however presented numerous safety and reliability problems, meaning they would never be mass produced and an alternative source of power was required. In 1885, German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were the first to produce a motorcycle with a gasoline internal combustion engine, patented as ‘The Daimler Reitwagen’ (figure 1). The first mass production motorcycle by Hildebrand and Wolfmueller began in 1894 (figure 2). When roads and technology began to improve in the 50s and 60s, Motorcycles became affordable and a favourable mode of transport. Today, there are many uses of motorcycles from sport racing, touring and cruisers each with different comfort and handling experiences.

The first telescopic fork incorporating a front suspension damping mechanism was in 1908 by Scott motorcycles (figure 3), introducing the first coil and spring suspension damping mechanism inside the front fork tubes (1). The first hydraulically damped telescopic fork was introduced by BMW on their R12 (figure 4) and R17 models in 1935 (5)(18). Initially the hydraulic dynamic damping technology was used only in racing vehicles, but eventually made its way into off road races, it is still the most popular form of fork damping used today. The demand for the ability to adapt to stimuli including changes in weight and speed to meet stability control criteria led to manufacturers producing alternative front suspension on different bikes. These alternative systems aim to improve various aspects of damping, stability, road holding and control, however during analysis of these systems over time shows that performance of the traditional telescopic fork often outweighs benefits gained from alternative solutions.

Improvement of the front suspension system of a motorcycle over time is to enhance one of the two key functions of the system, firstly to isolate the rider from bumps in the road, and secondly to provide comfort and safety to the rider and passengers. The design of the front fork is the most recognizable design of a modern motorcycle, clearly obtained from a bicycle structure stemming from the steering hub and positioned on each side of the front wheel. As emphasised by Noce (4) in his works that ‘the desired motorcycle design is to maximise frame stiffness whilst minimizing weight’ he suggests that structural stiffness is an important characteristic of not only the motorcycle but also the front suspension. A high structural stiffness gives a quick response to rider input and the optimum performance is a combination of medium lateral stiffness and high torsional stiffness.

This literature review will begin with an overview of the workings of a front suspension system and its characteristic parameters and how these relate to the performance of the front suspension during braking applications. Section three will provide an overview of existing and alternative front suspension systems outlining key design features, characteristics and performance advantages of each respectively. Following this the performance of alternative double-wishbone suspension designs are compared from simulation results. Section five discusses how the suspension is one of the most important components for improving comfort, road holding, and stability and different setups maximise different characteristics. Finally, this report will review advanced semi active suspension technologies used in motorcycles, and how magnetorheological fluids are being used to improve the response and handling of top of the range vehicles.

Suspension systems have developed over time to enhance rider comfort and prolong the lifetime of a vehicle. When a rider accelerates, or activates the brakes, the front suspension supports a large portion of the weight, thus a demand for a damping energy absorption mechanism is required. Due to the range of variation in riding styles, road surfaces and conditions, all affecting the load experienced by the suspension, different types of motorcycles and riders will require alternate setups of the front suspension and geometry.

A suspension system is comprised of springs, dampers, sprung and unsprung masses, and tyres. The choice of characteristics for each of these parameters determines the overall performance of the suspension system and therefore the road handling of the vehicle. Foale (6) models a simple motorcycle suspension as represented in figure 5, separated into the front and rear sprung and unsprung masses respectively.

Spring performance parameters include: ‘spring rate’, the stiffness or additional force required to compress the spring a given distance (N/mm), ‘pre-load’, the compression of the spring during mounting, and ‘sag’, the compression distance with a static load of the bike and rider.

Dampers are a key element of the design that act as energy absorbers to prevent the suspension from oscillating uncontrollably. Without this loss of energy to heat, the energy would be transferred between stored and kinetic in opposing directions and result in a repeated bouncing of the rider. Classical dampers used friction however modern damping systems use hydraulics for viscous damping.

The total mass of the motorcycle model is split into the ‘sprung mass’, anything supported by the suspension, and the ‘unsprung mass’ everything else which is not supported by the suspension. The unsprung mass included the wheels, tyres and brakes and is simply sprung mass subtracted from the total mass. The unsprung mass does not affect springing since it is not supported by the suspension.

Humans are more sensitive to different disturbance frequencies, the most comfortable being disturbances in the vertical direction of 1 to 1.5 cycles per second (6) . Whereas a racing motorcycle spring mass system has a natural frequency of 2-2.6Hz (7). The undamped suspension frequency is calculated using the basic mass, spring damper model.

The speed and nature of the road determines the range of frequencies imposed on the suspension. Horizontal disturbances are unpleasant to a rider and play an important role in the design and direction of suspension damping. As mentioned above, the suspension is included to maximise rider comfort and road handling however the two can often oppose each other. Comfort is achieved by minimising the force transmitted to the sprung components, achieved by increasing the unsprung mass. On the other hand, road handling is increased by a high sprung to unsprung mass ratio thus a lower unsprung mass. This is an example of one of the many challenges faced by designers when finding the optimum mass for road holding and comfort.

Improving Self Awareness: A Road To Self-discovery

INTRODUCTION

Firstly, I will put a focus on self-concept and tell something about personal inventory like my moods, physical conditions, beliefs, social characteristics and then an analysis of self-concept what’s my thinking and what’s people’s perception about me. Secondly, I would be explaining about social identity and more about the Johari window and four areas in that open area, hidden area, blind area, and undiscovered area. Lastly, I would be telling about me and how self-awareness leads to organizational effectiveness.

SELF CONCEPT

Moods and Feelings

I am a very happy and cheerful kind of person. Even, with a smile and happy face, a person can look more beautiful and gorgeous as well as leads to a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, I am an extrovert kind of person because of this environment makes me fit into that situation. I am blessed with this emotional state as I can change the worst situation into cheerful. Sometimes, I become sad and depressed, but then I tried to come out of that condition by watching some of the funny videos. So, I not only make myself happy but also the people who come in contact with me and even enjoy my company.

Physical condition and appearance

Physical conditions and appearance matter a lot to survive in this competitive world. I am Tall and Attractive. My height is a positive point in my life as I was always selected in the sports team held at school, especially in the volleyball as there is a need for tall player. Even, I had heard that good looking and gorgeous. I am very happy with my appearance, but some people assert that I am not physically strong because I am skinny. I believe that being thin doesn’t mean the person is weak and not physically strong.

Social Characteristics

I am the kind of person who easily gets socialize with people. Talkative, caring and friendly are some of the social characteristics that I find in myself. I usually, like to talk with people to know more about people’s traits, and their culture as well as background. I am very friendly and caring towards my near ones. I often trust people immediately but, in the end, they betrayed me. I always help them in their all ups and downs. But sometimes these traits affect me as I usually get distracted when I talk too much and unable to concentrate on my studies.

Talent and Skills

I haven’t inspected this area of myself, but I think I am good at singing and dancing. I think that this is the best activity that a person can pursue in their leisure time. I love to dance, and I not only participated in many competitions at school time but also win them. Moreover, I like to sing songs to refresh myself. I would like to obtain more skills like I am not good at math so I possess will work on that.

Beliefs

I am going to share the religious belief. My grandparents have lots of knowledge about religion. So, they used to share many religions after about the past. Once, he told me about our first Guru “Guru Nanak Dev Ji” that he traveled in four directions north, south, east and west on his foot to order to spread a message in all religions that our God is one, which I found unrealistic. Afterward, I read a lot of history books and research and all was true. I was having a belief that I will let go is about girls who are not good at sports. I always assert that in sports women are unable to compete as they are not physically strong. But by looking at personalities like Sania Mirza which is world- class players I would demolish this belief.

Social roles

Almost, all the roles in life are important and plays a vital role. The role that I play is of a sister, friend as well as a student. I do have many responsibilities as a student I have to perform

my study chores in a systematically but also scores good marks. As a friend, I always help my friends whenever they are in trouble, even I am always in all their ups and downs. As a sister, I play the role of a role model for my sibling and motivate and support him.

ANALYSIS

From the self-concept, my assumption is the same as people think about me. Because whom I know like my family and all my near ones, their ideas, and my thoughts always match with each other as I love to spend lots of time with my family and hangout with my friends. They all are already familiar with my traits, but I experienced one thing which amused me, when someone has a different perception of me. I remember an aunt who thought that I am a very introvert kind of person according to her point of view, then I hang out with her to one of my favorite locations. I observed a drastic change in her behavior towards me and she regrets having such an assumption about me. Thus, always people have positive assumptions about my traits, but this was the only lady who had wrong thinking about me. Hence, I changed her perception.

SOCIAL IDENTITY

I played many roles in my life like daughter, friends as well as a student. Sister is my social identity. I have a sibling, my younger brother. I like his second parent, I the one with whom he feels comfortable to talk with. Whenever, he feels depressed or sad he comes to me as I am closest to him. Moreover, share his thoughts, feelings and I try to tackle that situation and help him to come out with a suitable conclusion. I also play the role of caretaker; I always look after him when no one is at home. Besides, I always help him in his studies as a tutor so that he scores well. Motivates him to physical activities and sports as a teenager he has a sedentary lifestyle and hectic schedule, so it is a good way to be fit and healthy. There is some emotional attachment and I love him a lot.

JOHARI WINDOW

Johari window is a method by which an individual can enhance their self -awareness about himself and communicate with others to build teamwork and get feedback to improve the weaknesses. In the Johari window, there are four windows: Open area, Hidden area, Blind area, Undiscovered self.

Open Area

In an open area, I would like to elaborate on some of my traits like socialize, trustworthiness.

I usually get interacted with people and love to talk with them. It’s not only my habit to make friends but I am kind of person who wants to explore more so, I get linked with a different group, which belong people of diverse background and as I do have lots of interest in knowing new cultures, background, language as well as traditions. But sometimes, it goes opposite to me as I speak for a long, and the next person gets frustrated. Secondly, I am trustworthy. One can share their confidential information with me, but I will not disclose them. In school days, most of the friends use to talk with me about their problems as they feel that is trustworthy. I think involvement with people helps to make us more aware of ourselves.

Hidden Area

The things that are hidden and I haven’t shared with anyone about me is that sometimes I nervous very soon and start crying. I assert that this is the most negative point that I have in myself and I am trying to overcome this. When I feel lonely and isolated or I am at an unknown designation I got tensed. I once got blank for a while as what to do, how to tackle this situation and start crying. But now I am trying to work on it as many people took advantage of same and even my friends can perform pranks if they come to know about my weakness, so I kept this as a secret.

Blind area

The blind area is the area that you don’t know about yourself, but others know. The blind area in me is confidence level and a good photographer. Once, there was a debate competition in school and accidently my friend got sick and was unable to deliver the speech.

So, my teacher forces me to deliver as she was confident that I can perform well so, but I was a bit nervous, and I always lack in confidence. All of my friends motivated and encouraged me. Moreover, on that day I delivered a speech and gain a lot of confidence and thanked my teacher to enlighten this area. I came to know that I am a good photographer when I clicked something which was very mesmerizing. So, my near ones help me to know more about myself and I even starting on these skills to shape them.

Undiscovered self

To increase self- awareness, I took a step to be open- minded and tried to talk face to face with my friends. I choose friends because they are the ones with whom I feel comfortable while talking. Moreover, they are close to me and they exactly know what I am my likes and dislikes, personality traits. Although, it took a lot of time. Everyone was having his views and I was a bit confused as I didn’t come to any conclusion as everything was mixed up. But, after some time I finally got some information.

Patience

From the above conversation, I came to know that I am very patient. I don’t jump to the conclusion directly. But I always listen to the problems of people calmly and then move on to the solutions that to clarify this problem, what would be its effects. So, all of them praised me for this I feel very cheerful.

Independent

One more that I came to know from the discussion was that I am independent. Earlier, they all believe that I was reliance on my family but now they feel that I became independent and can manage everything as I came to abroad is like a start of a new life with new challenges to face.

At last but not least, I would like to conclude that from this conversation I find two of my unknown areas of myself. I was happy to gather different views of my near ones about my personality and can even work on them to shape them.

PROFILE OF SELF

My name is Anureet Kaur and I am a girl of 18, with a smile on my face and always in a happy and cheerful mood. I am tall and appealing. Moreover, I am very chatty as I try to interact with more and more people, even I show care and cordial nature towards others. I love to sing and dance as I examine these activities in my recreational time. Also, I need to concentrate more on math. I confidently shared my hidden areas with my companion and get know about two of my unknown areas. Moreover, independent and patient, these are the new areas that I found while talking with friends. All the characteristics that I found during this assignment will help me to increase self- awareness. I would try to work on my weaknesses and sharpen my undiscovered area.

ORGANISATINAL EFFECTIVENESS

Self Awareness helped to get an overall review of my personality. Moreover, I not only came to know more about my skills, beliefs, physical appearance but how others think about me. Although, many people have a diverse perception of me, I learned something from each one of them. Self- awareness helps in improving person’s ability and personality by focusing on various areas. Through this, an individual can know his strength and weaknesses and likes and dislikes and can help in increment in organization effectiveness as I know my strength, I will find work suitable to that. I will try to focus on my weaknesses so that they become my strength. This helps to motivate employees as they follow the same pattern.

Improve Air Quality: Mexico, Tehran And Delhi

Abstract

Air pollution has been one of the burning issues effecting the urban and rural people across the world. Urban population has been highly effected by the air pollution due to industrial development, automobiles, and various other factors. Improving air quality is therefore a norm that needs to be addressed in all growing urban areas of the world. This paper reviews the study done by researchers in Mexico and Tahran on improvement of air quality and thereby apply the techniques used in such places to improve the air quality of places like Delhi. It also throws light on issues faced by Delhi in matters related to air quality and how commonwealth games had an impact over air quality of Delhi as a city. Towards the end it also provides certain innovative means of improving air quality so that the lives of millions are not at risk and the development doesn’t come at the expense of environment.

Introduction

Air pollution has been a thing of the past, as man starting thinking rationally and logically he started solving problems pertaining to each and every field this made man lazy physically and mentally they started solving even minute problems which actually lead to over exploitation of natural resources. It all started with discovery of fire in the prehistoric age, according to 1983 article in the journal science. “Soot” found on the excavations suggest that pollution existed from long. Urban population largely started with the discovery of technique like burning of coal to generate steam which drives various machines or for that matter steam engine was the first discovery.

Coming to the present scenario one of the larger issues facing the world is air pollution, the emissions in the atmosphere includes both primary and secondary pollutants and also the CFC emitted is causing ozone layer depletion resulting in UV rays reaching the surface of earth and causing global warming. The chain of issues related to air pollution is so long that it is really difficult to control such problems by just mere policy formation so ground level implementation is extremely important. This issue is not confined to one place it is a global issue effecting the cities in Mexico, Iran, China, India and various other countries.

Various countries have started addressing this issue with great policies in place now let’s discuss these policies in detail and understand what measures Indian government has taken and why and how it has failed to meet the expectations and how various countries tried solving the flaws in their policy implementation and whether the techniques used by them would help improve air quality in India.

Policies in Mexico and Tehran to improve air quality

To implement or make policies we need to first understand the reasons of air pollution in detail and then we start implementing policies with the degree in which it is effecting the air by putting policies in ordinal manner. This is what the Mexican researchers and government decided to do in first place. They first started listing down the causes and then thought of the biggest cause and made policies making them the preference.

To do this they first understood the topography of the city and then the trends of growing population in the city with development in various factors. After a certain while they narrowed down to a point that the growing population brings a lot of automobiles and industries and the market clearly shifts there and then they made people realise that air pollution is really hazardous thereby making people serious to solve the problem collectively with the sense of belongingness to the nature. With people now involved they started getting some scientific ideas to improve air quality with policies like monitoring the vehicles so that they do not cross the threshold level of pollution. They were successful in reducing emissions to an extent but the challenge faced was financial. With the researchers and scientists getting into the deeper levels of the problem they came up with some the ideas that would really improve air quality and is also a cost effective solution. Some of the measures they suggested was getting strict rules into place when it comes to vehicle inspection, reducing the pollutants by using fuel which has relatively less emissions, by increasing public transport and make people realise the usage of this would help government generate revenue and also reduce emissions.

Now let’s talk about Tehran in terms of air pollution and how it made policies which failed in implementation and again helped it achieve good air quality. The huge problem Tehran faces is the topographical disadvantage because it has mountains in north and east whereas it is flat in the south and west so the air movement is pretty difficult with the pollutants not getting dispersed it gets stagnated or concentrated at one place. Another problem is rapidly growing popularity of the city has made a lot of people to migrate to Tehran which is creating a buzz in the auto industry and revenues of auto industry has surged at the expense of environment.

Tehran resorted to a scientific and systematic study, to improve air quality and detected the problems or causes that is causing the pollution they narrowed down to three major issues they were emission control in automobiles industries and the domestic emissions. With this in mind they prepared a master plan to improve air quality with the sufficient amount of research done to predict how effective the policies are going to be in the future and it would impact Iran’s short and long term goals in development. The categorisation of pollution causing objects was mobile and stationary to reduce the moving object pollution they had strict policies in place and also the improvement of fuel quality dealing with vehicle monitoring system and a threshold value for industrial pollution value. They also worked on traffic management system and training but it had some challenges, one of major being social equity challenge.

The cars used in Tehran were relatively old and engines were causing heavy pollution so the government decided to replace them so that the auto industries also get benefitted but the people belonging to lower group had that only one means of transport this lead to giving of subsidies which caused financial mismanagement and thereby having huge impact.

So the lessons learnt from above policies maybe negative or positive we can apply or discard some measures to improve air quality of Delhi and increase life expectancy of people there.

Delhi and the Pollution Saga

Delhi as described in Mahabharata was a complete forest which was burnt to make a city so the greenery was long lost it doesn’t have a huge topographical disadvantage like Tehran as such the air quality is concerned but it has the disadvantage of Yamuna floods and though not considered very seriously it is prone to major earthquakes now these are some other aspects now let’s speak about air quality in Delhi a recently concluded Diwali saw a huge percentage of pollutants in one of the greatest cities of India. Delhi faces major issues like rapidly growing population in Delhi in such a small area leading to congestion of automobiles. Rapidly growing industries in and around Delhi (NCR) region. These factors are leading to loss of heritage of the capital city of India, the city which was once a great place to travel with amazing monuments in place is now turning into a graveyard with a whole lot of people losing their life due to health hazards.

To indicate the growing rise of pollution in air let’s discuss one of the major events that happened which was the commonwealth games. Keeping in mind the rapidly increasing air pollution government decided to take some measures to control air pollution, some of the measures were halting the traffic flow to reduce automobile emissions and the growth of thermal power station was stopped etc.

The quantity of pollutants was measured and the results were analysed and the conclusions made lead to the effect that air was still polluted and this was something even after a lot of effort was made.

Something that also took place to improve air quality in Delhi was usage of good fuel and CNG vehicles but there was a lack of systematic and scientific study of pollutants and then narrowing down ordinal causes and improve air quality. Therefore we need to get some substantial ideas from Tehran and Mexico.

Conclusion

The policies implemented in Delhi has been beneficial to an extent but the amount of pollution in Delhi needs serious measures. The things that has been in practice already is heavily criticised odd even rule implemented by CM of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal. The pollution rules have been formed but ground level implementation is lacking. The population in Delhi needs to be controlled by limiting the migration of people to the capital city. The automobile industry should be instructed to make engines which are really efficient and less pollution causing.

The learnings from Tehran and Mexico has lead us to a conclusion that a systematic study has to be done keeping long term and short term development goals of the government and make sure it doesn’t come at the expense of the environment. We also need to research whether the tools we use are effective in long run or no. So firstly we research on the pollution causing objects which are quite a few like

  • Growing population density
  • Automobile Emissions
  • Badarpur Thermal power station
  • Usage of wood, cow dung etc. as fuel by 10 percent of the population
  • Bhalswa landfill
  • Lack of active monitoring of vehicles
  • Lack of priority by politicians or the decision makers

Now we narrow down to one area which can improve air quality which in most of cities that we have discussed above is automobile emissions to control automobile emissions government has already put an innovative measure of using CNG in place. The policies that the government has put in place are usage of CNG in public transport system and restricting the usage of other low quality fuels. It has also asked GAIL to increase the production of CNG as a fuel. But compressed natural gas has got its own problem they are it can explode when under pressure and that causes havoc of larger intensity that too in short time that will affect the mentality of people pretty faster than it would affect them in case of pollution.

We can also borrow the idea of training and skill development of people in making them understand the adverse effects of air pollution as we had in Tehran. Getting people together in policy implementation will be huge boost in improving air quality. The sense of collective belonging would get people to work towards the ultimate goal of saving lives of people from hazardous gases in the atmosphere.

Self Improvement Essay

Everybody in the family is embarrassed about the ‘best-stayed discreet’ in light of the fact that the issue is never examined in a sheltered situation with other people who share a similar issue. Right now, uncover their hurt and agony to each other such that they see precisely what the advantages of sharing are and, moreover, they figure out how to impart these encounters, making them important to different guardians. There is a serious contrast between sharing the ‘special kind of mystery’ with another parent at the grocery store or on a recreation center seat and discussing it in a composed and safe condition where limits are commonly regarded.

Numerous guardians, who have not experienced shared self-improvement gatherings ask themselves what, in the event that anything, can be picked up? The incomprehensible message of self-improvement is that the individual no longer needs to stress over only it and an extraordinary weight is lifted. At the center of the common self-improvement, the message is the correspondence: I’ll help you in the event that you help me: how about we face these issues together that none of us can confront alone, in any case, if the issue is neediness, illicit drug use or psychological sickness. The message is related to co-activity and friendliness and with bunches being sorted out for the shared advantage of the network.

Despite the fact that there is no single medication treatment that fixes habit, guardians every now and again utilize a type of ‘talk treatment’ with their essential doctor. All specialists, medical caretakers, and social laborers practice it with their patients without pointing out it. Talk treatment can be seen as a more extensive and, maybe, increasingly natural impact of self-improvement standards on the well-being framework as rehearsed by essential consideration experts. Most guardians with tranquilized reliance in the family have taken an interest in a discussion treatment, which is a sort of self-improvement activity with respect to the parent.

After serious debacles, for example, plane accidents, natural calamities or train mishaps, and so forth where numerous survivors share a similar destiny and predetermination, salvage specialists quickly set to work to frame gatherings so they can discuss their regular encounters. Partaking in such ‘talking gatherings’ fundamentally lessens uneasiness, which thusly encourages people to go on with their day-by-day lives and keep away from sorrow and sadness. A family normally influenced by tranquilized reliance after some time can likewise be viewed as a ‘hazardous situation’. At the point when individuals essentially talk about it with others in a comparative circumstance, it lessens day-by-day pressure, in the end having an effect that can be felt in different parts of their lives since tranquilize reliance on the family puts limitations on the public activities of each relative.

Setting up close-to-home limits is another significant message in shared self-improvement gatherings. In any case, these are limits of correspondence that must be kept open in the gathering. All together for the gathering to work adequately every part figures out how to deal with their sentiments so when negative or ‘terrible’ emotions prevail in the gathering they are examined transparently and are transformed into reasonable and positive encounters. This implies being in contact with one’s sentiments and having the option to decipher baffling and troublesome associations with the help of others in the gathering.

The way that shared self-improvement is an action that can be set up and kept up with moderately low money-related info ought not to persuade that it has no impact.

As of now, this methodology is developing quickly in the emotional well-being field everywhere throughout the world, turning into a coordinated piece of the psychosocial well-being administrations in numerous nations. Hardly any nation, assuming any, can offer free family treatment to its residents. All over yonder is a need to create cost-productive administrations that work. There is an additional need to incorporate this methodology all the more extensively in well-being and social administrations altogether for the network to more likely comprehend the effect self-improvement has on individuals’ day-by-day lives.

Self-improvement in the Russian setting

Some Russian authorities have revealed that there are misperceptions of the self-improvement approach that presumably start from the word ‘self’ related to being egotistical, which means an excessive amount of the ‘I’ and too little of the ‘we’. It is seen as something pessimistic because of the absence of adequate data and, above all, a more extensive social viewpoint that consolidates the person into a system, so she or he won’t feel like the survivor of someone else’s (a noteworthy other) conditions. How do we react to the profound suspicion with respect to the thought processes of ‘narrow-minded’ people and the chance of them stretching out their discernments to incorporate more extensive social qualities?

Self-improvement doesn’t imply that the individual is self-intrigued and just worried about their issues and couldn’t care less about others. Despite what might be expected, the self-improvement process includes sharing, interfacing, teaching, standing up to one another, and above all acquiring the ‘I’ quality from the gathering. This procedure empowers people to assist themselves with encountering their internal individual as in a general sense great. In the self-improvement gathering, when an individual is being sustained, comprehended, and acknowledged by others the internal individual can develop.

It is significant for Russian individuals to realize that self-improvement is for the common advantage of everybody in the public eye, and not only for the person. ‘Shared’ self-improvement gatherings are sorted out exercises with standards and techniques that can be adjusted to the requirements of various gatherings in social orders, not just guardians and families influenced by sedate maltreatment. In any case, just if there is a structure and a lot of decisions and moral limits that are followed. Basically, self-improvement is a privately sorted out type of government assistance and has an urgent task to carry out in creating trust among individuals and their networks. In this manner, we empower networks, foundations, and pros to help the guardians in creating encouraging groups of people and common self-improvement associations by helping them with the fundamental material assets, for example, a room and power, so they can lead their gatherings.

Common self-improvement and network anticipation

There is a prominent contrast between common self-improvement activities and different exercises identified with medicating issues in the public eye, for example, network sedation anticipation, recovery, and grassroots activities for improved administrations. Network associations address issues, for example, medication and liquor maltreatment by getting engaged with counteraction exercises in their nearby networks or on the national level so as to help approach changes that will thus fortify exercises on the network level. Despite the fact that a few territories of concern may cover the standards of self-improvement, these gatherings have various capacities for self-improvement gatherings since they address explicit circumstances and apply explicit strategies.

Anticipation, activity, or support bunches are task-arranged with techniques, destinations, and objectives. Dynamic includes a concentrated system, and the outstanding burden and obligation can’t partake so that everybody takes an interest similarly in the process since the undertakings are subject to the skill and assets of specific people. This is rather than self-improvement gatherings, which stress the integral relationship of ‘oneself’ to the social and passionate parts of understanding and connections, including a decentralized and libertarian arrangement. All gathering individuals take an interest and offer similarly in making the gathering procedure and assuming individual liability for the issue.

How To Improve Focus

Focus is the act of concentrating on a particular task. Focus is key to success and happiness in life. The most successful people on this planet are highly focused. They pay attention to the present moment and present tasks. This habit ensures they are fully engaged in activities, get more done properly and deal with adverse life events better.

Improving your mental focus is achievable, but that doesn’t mean that it’s always quick and easy. It will take some real effort on your part and you may have to make some changes to some of your daily habits. Let’s take a look at some tips how to improve your focus at work.

1. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Proper sleep is very essential to improve our focus. If we don’t get enough sleep at night, next day we will not able to focus. Our brain will not function properly because of late sleep night hours.

Good sleep can maximize problem-solving skills and enhance memory. Poor sleep has been shown to impair brain function.

2. Exercise First Thing

Starting each morning with exercise directly improves a child’s capacity to learn. Exercise improves blood flow and memory; it stimulates chemical changes in the brain that enhance learning, mood and thinking.Exercise changes the brain in ways that protect memory and thinking skills.

Exercise affects the brain in many ways. It increases heart rate, which pumps more oxygen to the brain. It aids the release of hormones which provide an excellent environment for the growth of brain cells.

3. Eliminate Distractions

“Saying No to distractions is ultimately saying Yes to Greatness”. It’s only by saying “NO”, that you can concentrate on the things that are really important. How often have you been distracted at work? Few times a day? Every time the cell phone beeps? Every time someone turns on the coffee machine? Sometimes it is all that and way more. Question is, are workplace distractions really so bad? They seem pretty harmless of course but are indeed very evil.

Here are few tips to avoid distractions:-

  • Make unavailable:- Keep your door closed. It will make you look busy and save you from wanderers and noises of the workplace.
  • Set your productivity time:- Know yourself and decide what time of the day you can get most of the work done. Also note down your less productive hours and use them to answer emails, contact colleagues or do other menial work.
  • Organise your work area:- The only way to avoid phone messages from relatives, invitations from friends and reminders about grocery at work is to keep your desk organized. Keep all work related things closest to you. And keep all distractions away.

4. Don’t Multitask

Smart people don’t multitask. Multitasking reduces your efficiency and performance because your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. When you try to do two things at once, your brain lacks the capacity to perform both tasks successfully. While multitasking may seem to be saving time, psychologists, neuroscientists and others are finding that it can put us under a great deal of stress and actually make us less efficient.

Instead of multitasking, focus on doing a single thing at a time and you’ll improve your performance.

7. Have a Break

Set of coffee shop logos vector. Although taking breaks might sound counterproductive. It actually improves your focus and productivity.

Working for long stretches without breaks leads to stress and exhaustion. Taking breaks refreshes the mind, replenishes your mental resources, and helps you become more creative.

8. Set Daily Goals

Goals are important in the sense that they give you direction in life. Having goals is like having a map.

Here are some reasons why Goals are important in life:

  • Goals set Direction:- When you have a direction, there are less stress and strain in your life, because you know where you are going. You don’t waste time going in circles and arriving nowhere.
  • Goals help you focus your mind:- When you have a goal, you focus your attention on a target, and you don’t waste your time and energy on everything that comes your way.

Setting goals creates hope and confidence:-You experience hope, inner peace and confidence when you set a goal and work on accomplishing it.

9. Increase Your Good Fats:

The food you eat plays a big part in how focused you are when you’re in class, working or studying. Here are some things you can do to fuel your body to help stay energized and focused.

Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, bread and oatmeal have more fiber and take longer to break down. This helps regulate your blood sugar and optimizes your energy throughout the day.

You need an adequate amount of proteins and fats. These keep you going throughout the day, as they take longer to digest than carbs. Including healthy, monounsaturated fats in your diet, such as fats from nuts, seeds and avocados, are good for your brain—if you’ve ever heard these are “brain foods”

Final thoughts

Now it’s your turn. Are you serious about improving your focus? Then follow these strategies ! Find the ones that work best for you and commit to practicing them on a regular basis. You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll be able to improve focus. Good luck!

How To Improve Your Self-Awareness

We often hear about self-awareness, but do we know the meaning of this term? And why is self-awareness so important?

Self-awareness is the ability to investigate as an individual by keeping separate from the surrounding environment and other individuals, to learn about our motivations, preferences, and aspects of personality, and to understand how they affect us. Self-awareness makes us better because if we are aware of ourselves we could easily understand our natural inclinations and use them to improve traits where we have gaps.

Self-awareness characterizes emotional intelligence, but what is emotional intelligence? We define emotional intelligence as the ability to understand and recognize emotions in ourselves and in others and how they manage to use this awareness to manage our way of acting and our relationships.

Usually, when we think of sensations or emotions we represent them symbolically from the heart, but it is scientifically proven that the heart has the important biological function of pumping oxygen, blood, and other important functions for our body but it certainly has nothing to do with the physiology of emotions.

So where are emotions formed and what are they? Emotions come from the central nervous system, that is, from the set of organs and structures that transmit signals to different parts of the body to coordinate physical and psychological functions.

Emotions are psychophysical responses through which the body reacts to what happens around it. If you want to be a leader you need to be aware of the emotions that characterize your team members. The most important goal that characterizes leadership skills and that of building healthy relationships with one’s colleagues.

According to a 2013 analysis performed by the Korn Ferry Institute, a global business strategy consulting organization, it was found that self-awareness appears to be correlated with results on a company’s overall financial performance. In fact, it was found that companies with the highest percentage of self-aware employees consistently outperformed those with a lower percentage.

Dr. Tasha Eurichis coach and organizational psychologist, along with her team of researchers, conducted a scientific study based on 10 separate self-awareness investigations. The goal of the study was to examine what self-awareness was, why leaders needed it, and how leaders could increase it.

It turns out there were two forms of awareness: L-internal self-awareness and l- External self-awareness

Self-awareness refers to the following subjects of interest:

  • Passions;
  • Values;
  • Feelings;
  • Fit with your environment;
  • Thoughts;
  • Aspirations;
  • Behaviors;
  • Strengths;
  • Weaknesses;
  • Impact on others.

Internal self-awareness is about what we can see clearly and objectively in the subjects listed above. “We’ve found that internal self-awareness is associated with higher job and relationship satisfaction, personal and social control, and happiness; it is negatively related to anxiety, stress, and depression.”, she said.

External self-awareness, on the other hand, concerns how others view us concerning them. ‘For leaders who see themselves as their employees do, their employees tend to have a better relationship with them, feel more satisfied with them, and see them as more effective in general.’ said Eurich

The researchers thought that a leader who had a high internal self-awareness would also be high in external self-awareness. The results turned out to be wrong: there is practically no relationship between them.

But how can we use this valuable research and apply it to us and our daily life? Today I want to give you some tips on how to improve your awareness with some techniques:

Researchers thought that a leader who had high internal self-awareness would also have high external self-awareness. The results turned out to be wrong – there is practically no relationship between them.

But how can we use this precious research and apply it to us and to our daily life?

Today I want to give you some advice given by this psychologist’s research on how to improve our awareness with some techniques that are easily applicable to our daily life:

Meditation

Meditate. Meditation helps us to know ourselves and to carve out moments, it is the practice to improve our awareness moment by moment. Most forms of meditation begin with concentrating and appreciating the simplicity of inspiration and aspiration. Regular moments of pause and reflection can also be helpful. Speaking personally, I try to gain more awareness by simply taking a few seconds to focus on my breathing, often before going to bed and sometimes with one of the many apps available on the Internet to help me.

Write down your plans and your main priorities.

One of the best ways to increase self-awareness is to write down what you want to do, the steps, and how to track your progress.

Ask for feedback from trusted people.

None of us are fully aware of what others think of us but we must try to rely on our friends’ feedback by asking your friends and colleagues directly for honest, forthright, and objective feedback so that they feel reassured the give you an informal, but a direct and honest view.

Receive regular feedback on your work. In addition to asking friends and family informally and periodically, it may be more helpful to use more formal feedback such as in the workplace. Provided they are done well, constructive and formalized feedback allows us to better see our strengths and weaknesses

Introspection doesn’t always improve self-awareness

The problem with introspection is that we are often not doing it correctly! Introspection is the process of examining the causes of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and leads to self-awareness only if done correctly.

The search for the reasons behind a particular reaction or behavior must be an activity conducted with objectivity. Often the combination of previous life events and low self-esteem or self-esteem can affect our final vision and cause us to make the wrong conclusions.

Dr. Eurich recommends replacing the question ‘Why’ with the question ‘What’. His research found that highly self-aware people wondered ‘why’ less than 150 times, but wondered ‘what’ more than 1000 times.

So instead of asking us why eg. someone has given us negative feedback, we should ask ourselves what steps I need to take in the future to do a better job

In the end, we all want self-awareness. Without it, we could never have any real improvement in our lives. It is only with self-awareness that we can become consistent between what we say, think, and feel. Building self-awareness is a life-long effort. You are never ‘finished’. But these five pragmatic practices will help us move faster and faster down the road.

How Awnings Improve Your Business

Awnings in Maroochydore are a great way to enhance your business and here at Cool Outdoor Living, we are committed to helping you find the perfect awnings and get the most out of them. The many benefits that you’ll be able to take advantage of will make a huge difference for your company and your customers. You’re going to love them and will wonder how you ever did without awnings. Check out these great perks.

Keep it Cool

Adding awnings to the windows of your business helps block some of the heat of the sun from beating in. That means you and your customers can enjoy a cooler environment, whether you run a shop or a restaurant. This also cuts the glare inside and helps lower your business’s overall energy costs.

Protects from the Elements

If there’s weather outside, including wind and rain, it’s nice to have a place to stand where you can stay warm and dry. Awnings offer this benefit as well. The weather proof fabric creates shade from the sun as well. This is great for bars, restaurants and coffee shops because it gives patrons a place to wait for a table that isn’t in the way.

A Place to Advertise

If you desire, you can use your awnings as a built in way to advertise your business. Choose a bright colour or pattern to attract the eye of potential customers to your sign and location. Or choose custom awning that declares who you are for people to see both close and far away.

Protect Your Goods and Employees

If you have wares that you’re trying to sell, you don’t want the sun shining in to damage or destroy them. Likewise, you know that prolonged sun exposure isn’t healthy and you want to do what you can to protect your employees. Much like awnings offer protection from the elements, they can also add an extra level of protection for your goods and workers.

Improve the Appearance of Your Business

Another great perk that awnings offer is that they can improve the outward appearance of your business and provide a welcoming entrance for your shop or restaurant. You can choose a colour, pattern, and style that meshes with the feel of your business and create an easy way to draw the eye toward your business.

My Experience of Learning from Mistakes: Reflective Essay

I have become aware of myself as a writer and a thinker throughout the semester. I’ve learned many new things that I didn’t know before that were not only important but would later improve my essay’s work. The first thing I didn’t know was when the proper way to use commas in a sentence. The second thing I didn’t know before was that I don’t have to start a paragraph with a transition word. The last thing I didn’t know before was the proper use of grammar words in each sentence. Learning from my mistakes has given me a lot and I hope I won’t forget doing these mishaps again.

To start, I didn’t know I had difficulties with comma use, and that led to some problems. Without knowing when I must put commas in their original place, I thought the essays were perfect with no mistakes at all. By the time, I got the essay back I was happy with what I got, but what I saw. In my paper, I see many of the miss commas that were supposed to be added to the essay. I was upset that I didn’t know I had to add these commas and I wanted to fix them. I learned from my mistakes that I should read carefully and aloud, think if a comma belongs there or not, and hope that I will never miss adding a comma again.

The second thing I didn’t know before was that I don’t must start every paragraph with a transition word. For me, starting with a transition was important, a way to start a paragraph, and this was a lesson I learned from many teachers. When I noticed this mistake, I had to figure out other ways to start a paragraph. For instance, when I wrote my first article about my favorite pastimes, in my second paragraph the word ‘in mind’ was crossed out and the word ‘my’ was chaptalized, and even in the last paragraph, the transition word was out the door. As I learned from this mistake, it made me rethink much for the words I’m going to put at the beginning of each paragraph and made me a better writer for future essays.

And the last thing I didn’t know before was the proper use of grammar words in a sentence. I roughly had a hard time knowing what the proper word was to put in each sentence of the paragraph. I had to learn much from the mistake by reading it over and seeing what words I should have put. For illustration, in my second essay, I had to add the word ‘and’ between ‘daily’ and ‘by’, and the word ‘thing’ didn’t make a lot of sense. In my first essay, the word ‘too much’ didn’t make sense either, and I also had to replace the word ‘to’ with into.

I had so many common errors that I need to learn from, but with practice, effort, and thinking carefully, I’m sure I can fix the slips I’ve done. Taking this course made me proud because I had fixed so many of my mistakes that I didn’t notice before. By helping find correct comma placements, not starting every paragraph with a transition, and finding proper grammar words that made more sense, I have become aware of a better writer and thinker. If you want to become a better writer, the best way to do that is by looking at your past mistakes and not repeating them in the future.

The Role Of Stakeholders In Improving The Teaching-learning Process

Abstract

The teaching-learning process has gained all time importance in the changing educational scenario, though it is the basis of the education system since time immemorial. The second criterion of the assessment parameters by NAAC ‘Teaching-Learning and Evaluation’ carries the highest weightage which brings forth its importance to the fore once more. The student is the chief stakeholder in the whole process of teaching and learning. This paper attempts to take a sneak peek at the definition of a stakeholder and also tries to trace the difference between the direct and indirect stakeholders in an institution.

NAAC is an autonomous body of UGC formed to facilitate the volunteering institutions in assessing their performance through set parameters through introspection. It endeavors to make quality the defining element of higher education in India through a combination of self and external quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance initiatives. Out of the seven criteria Teaching-Learning and Evaluation is the second one to evaluate the same. This criterion aims to stimulate the academic environment for promotion of quality of teaching-learning and research in higher education and to encourage self-evaluation, accountability, autonomy, innovation, etc. It provides space for participation to know its strengths, weaknesses and opportunities through an informed review process. The role of stakeholders in managing and improving it plays a significant part in the long run.

Who then is a stakeholder? The Glossary of Education Reform defines a stakeholder in education as one who has an interest or who has invested in the welfare and success of an institution. They are the students, faculty members, administrators, alumni, parents, the Government, the community and the entities both public and private.

The stakeholders can be classified as internal and external stakeholders. The direct stakeholders comprise of teachers, both working and superannuated; the students— current and alumni; the parents, and the non-teaching staff. All the students who belong to the ‘catchment domain’, the industries, the service sector, other educational establishments, the Government, etc., that may depend on the institution for the supply of educated human resources, are all indirect stakeholders.

An educational institution becomes a center of excellence only through the collective and focused efforts of all the stakeholders. An effort is made to highlight the main stakeholders who shoulder the responsibility to create a quality culture in the development of an institution.

Students

The students are the main stakeholders as they are the chief beneficiaries of an institution. In other words, students are the primary reason for the existence of an institution. In the past, the student was seen as the receiver of knowledge as his/her participation was not active enough in the teaching-learning process. A student was considered a consumer who wanted the product, i.e. the knowledge. This point of view brings negative rave reviews, as the students are looked upon as the customers, who in turn will treat the institution with little or no interest. In fact, it is also likely that if their expectations are not met, they are bound to take their business elsewhere, that is, they will shift to any other institution which will fulfill their expectations and requirements. Another view of the student is not just as a participant but as a partner in the teaching-learning process. They must participate in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in order to ensure holistic development of their personality. Their timely and sincere feedback is very important for the improvement of the teaching-learning process and for making it student-centric. It is therefore necessary to impress upon the students the idea of them being the participants and not mere passive recipients. When they feel that they are an integral part of the system, a sense of belongingness, ownership and pride will automatically follow, and will eventually lead to quality enhancement in the institution.

Teachers

Teachers play a vital role in the lives of the students in their classrooms. They are best known for the role of educating the students that are placed in their care. Beyond that, teachers serve many other roles too. They set the tone of their classrooms, build a warm and endearing environment, mentor and nurture the students, become role models and listen and look for the signs of trouble and also diffuse it tactfully. They have clear objectives with a sense of purpose and know when to listen and adapt. Successful educators take time to reflect on their methods, their delivery and the way they connect with their students. The characteristics of teachers are different from other professionals because teachers serve as facilitators and not mere preachers. In the present scenario, importance of the roles of the teachers as the catalyst agent has become more critical. Hence, it is imperative on the part of the teachers that they update their knowledge and skills and be aware of the latest development in the field.

The Principal

The Principal plays a key role in the delivery of quality instruction. The Principals are the main facilitators to improve teaching and learning. The role of a Principal is extremely fluid, being shaped by a diverse set of concerns and values. In a recent research done by Wallace Foundation, “A particularly noteworthy finding is the empirical link between school leadership and improved student achievement.” Principals have to play multiple roles of disciplinarians, public relation experts and more importantly serve as a bridge between students and teachers. Reversing the damage done by a poor Principal can take ages to repair. The Principal cultivates leadership in others so that teachers and other adults assume their part in realizing their goals. His role becomes crucial when there is involvement of parents and parental associations in the institution. The Principal with his vast experience can be a great source of strength and support to his staff and students as well.

The Management

The Management is committed to the cause of imparting quality education to different segments of students irrespective of caste, creed and religion. More than the mere academic progress which can be achieved with expert coaching, the acquisition of self-confidence and personality strength with the help of a philanthropic and generous management, a committed and a caring teaching management, a committed and caring community and the support systems have created a new generation of outstanding individuals in many walks of life. The management makes sincere efforts to achieve the goal of integrated development of critical ability, work ethics and personality. It believes in the principle of “No business in charity” and takes keen interest in involving industrial units in institutional development. The chairman of the trust is a great visionary and a believer in maintaining the sanctity of education. The management should be progressive, quality conscious and one who works with a sense of accountability. The vision, goals and objectives of the institution and the altruistic philosophy of management have contributed to the development of generations of youth.

Parents

Parents have very high expectations about their children’s education. The result of a study published in The Times of India shows that the most important goal that Indian parents have for their children is that they build successful careers in their adult life. Since the success of the student in all facets of life is equally important for the reputation of an institution, the parents can collaborate with the other stakeholders to improve the quality of the teaching-learning process. Parents who wish to contribute to the growth of the institution can volunteer their time and thereby aid in enriching the students’ learning experience. This can be made use of by providing platform like Parent-teachers meeting, a regular feature of all institutions now, where suggestions, opinions, concerns and feedback are exchanged. Their genuine concern in the welfare of the student can be of great strength and motivation for any institution.

Alumni

Today, quality of the bond with the Alumni is an important part of the institution’s advancement activities for many reasons. Alumni are an institution’s most loyal supporters. They take their knowledge to their hometowns and to the places they choose to settle down in. They are the national and international ambassadors of an institution. Moreover, they are fund raising prospects too. This explains the importance of the Alumni associations. In the past, alumni relations or engagements tended to be treated as a stand along activity divorced from fund raising and other advanced activities. Indeed some alumni associations were entirely independent of their parental institutions, and whilst their members interacted with each other, they had very little interaction with the institution. The alumni are a great treasure to an institution provided their potential is recognized and used for the development of the institution in a conscious and well planned manner. They are not merely fund raisers but play a host of roles with their expertise, experience, networking, skill and end up being role models for the young generation. It remains the duty of the administration to see how the loyalty and affection of the alumni can be utilized for the betterment of the institution.

Other Stakeholders

The involvement of the community can improve communication and understanding of the needs and the way of working of an institution. It also brings in the perspectives, experience and expertise of participating community members who can propose reforms, strategies that will lead to quality enhancement and attain a place in their hearts as well. The role of the Government in ensuring adequate funding and policy support cannot be over emphasized. The indirect stakeholders like the local industries can also influence the teaching-learning process. A number of institutions offer short term courses keeping in mind the requirements of the local employers. Well planned and a visionary thought can lead to interactions between the University and the leading institution located in the particular region can also help in the skill development of the students. When all the direct and indirect stakeholders come together, students are encouraged to take learning more seriously. This involvement and collaboration in all aspects right from the admission process to curriculum designing to its proper implementation will help to address several problems like increase in drop-out rates, unskilled students, etc.

If the nation has to progress, it needs a strong and skilled workforce. Quality higher education is directly connected with the students, who after all are the primary stakeholders as well as the direct beneficiaries of all quality measures in the education process.
