1. Cultural Humillity- is being aware of social power and balance with no exspectations, learning of your own bias so you cantreat others according to their cultural limitations. I do not believe one is more than the other in how you see others or your treatment of them I believe they are both equal as they are both important to how you see and treat others within their cultural society.
2.  Cultural competence refers to the ability of individuals or organizations to understand, respect, and effectively engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds (National Technical Assistance and Evaluation Center for Systems of Care, 2009). It involves gaining knowledge about different cultures, developing cultural sensitivity, and maintaining the skills to adapt communication and methods to be inclusive and respectful.
Cultural humility is a related idea but highlights a different approach. It involves an endless process of self-reflection and self-critique, where individuals own and challenge their cultural biases and power dynamics. Cultural humility recognizes that no one can be fully competent in every aspect of every culture, and it encourages a lifelong commitment to learning and understanding diverse perspectives (Wright, P., 2019). Cultural competence provides a framework for developing the familiarity and skills to interact effectively with various groups. In contrast, cultural humility urges constant learning and reflection, acknowledging the passionate nature of culture and the significance of humility in cultural exchanges.
Both cultural competence and cultural humility are crucial in promoting effective cross-cultural interactions. Cultural competence provides a foundation of knowledge and skills, while cultural humility encourages an open-minded attitude. Merging the two can lead to more accurate connections with people from other cultures. Cultural competence sets the scene for initial learning, while cultural humility ensures that individuals remain available to understand and adapt over time. Striking a balance between competence and humility is critical to enabling genuine cultural understanding and effective communication in various settings.
Your Student & Class,

Question For The Class:  Can you provide examples of concerns where cultural competence isolated may not be good, and cultural humility evolves critically?

1. By the sounds of the boy’s father, you can tell that he is machismo, or has a strong sense of masculine pride, (Zastrow, Kirst-Ashman, & Hessenauer, 2019).  The School Mental Health: Social Work Provider Guidebook (2021) gives some advice on how to talk with the family and options for getting the student engaged with their schoolwork and other peers.  They recommend, with consent from the parent/guardian, having contact with the parent/guardian if the student refuses to participate after 2–3 attempts, (Del Rosario Gomez, 2021). Documenting the actions of the student, it allows the parent/guardian to know what is occurring, but also allows for school personnel to keep track and assess the student and assist with setting goals.
However, since the father is corporal punishment, the school must abide by the mandatory reporting.  Since the father let the school officials know, they must report it to the Child Abuse Hotline, (41-3-201, MCA). Corporal punishment is defined as physical force with intent to cause physical pain, but not injury, to control a child’s behavior, (Fontes, 2005).  Fontes (2005) explains that cultures around the world use corporal punishment as a form of discipline, but in the United States, it is constituted as child abuse.  However, most of the cases that are called regarding child abuse are closed as there are not enough employees to supervise the number of families who have already been charged with child abuse, (Fontes, 2005).
Some support that I would suggest for the family would be family support services, which would help with parenting skills and some strengths the family would need since they just moved to the United States.  Even getting a therapist for the family would be good for them.
Even though the family has a different race, culture, and ethnicity, do you feel that the father is still abusing his child and should be punished as if he were a U.S. Citizen?
2.   As a social worker in the school, I would have to reiterate to the boy’s father that even though there are cultural differences and the family is adjusting to their new environment, there are rules that are to be followed here. Corporal punishment is not permitted as a form of discipline in these united states, and if I hear that this is what is happening, I must report it to the Department of Child Services. According to the Department of labor as a general rule the flsa sets 14 years of age the minimum age for employment and limits the number of hours worked by a minor to 16 hours per week. A child with written consent from the parent on a farm where the parent is working that a 12 year old could work and that’s in certain states. Assuming that I’m the social worker for this family the case would be in new York city and the minimum working age for a child is 14 years of age. My job with the child is to try to build a trust with him and to help the family with information to get them mental health services, services for tnaf/snap or chip or ssi. I would annitated session for the child and i to talk and try to lessen the worry he feels about this depressed state.   As a social worker in the school, I would have to reiterate to the boy’s father that even though there are cultural differences and the family is adjusting to their new environment, there are rules that are to be followed here. 1.  Finding out that someone in a similar role earns more can be disheartening and unfair. If I were in that position, I would probably feel mixed emotions, including frustration and a sense of injustice. I would consider years of experience, qualifications, and performance evaluations in this scenario. If I genuinely believed that my work responsibilities and contributions were comparable, I would gather evidence to support my case and schedule a meeting with my supervisor or the appropriate person in HR to discuss the matter. It is essential to approach the conversation calmly and professionally, focusing on the facts and presenting a well-reasoned argument. It may not guarantee an immediate resolution, but it opens the door for a constructive dialogue about compensation and potential adjustments. Sometimes, companies have policies, factors, or circumstances that influence salary disparities. However, by initiating the conversation, I should at least stand up for myself and raise awareness about the issue. I would prepare for this by first doing my homework. I would research industry standards and salary ranges for similar positions and gather evidence of my accomplishments and contributions. This would help me build a strong case for why I deserve a raise. I would also look for a moment when my performance is at its peak, such as after completing a successful project or receiving positive feedback. Lastly, I would approach the negotiation as a conversation rather than a demand.  If my request could not be fulfilled, I would look for opportunities to enhance my skills and qualifications, which could lead to a promotion or better job prospects in the future. Ultimately, it is essential to keep exploring and pursuing opportunities for growth and advancement, even if a salary raise is not immediately possible.
Do you feel that being denied a salary raise would be a good enough reason to leave a job?
2.  Before I would schudule a meeting to negotiate a raise I would research pay rates for my position, look at the companies qualifations for my position. I also would prepare myself by being able to present them with specific accomplishments i have done that has helped the company, my qualifations, the work I have done, the ways I am an excess to the company, and the extra work I put in on my own time to do a successful job. After scheduling a meeting to present the reassons I would like a raise. I would not mention the other employee that is earning more than I do for the same job. If the company offers me a raise and asks how much was I wanting. I would have a range from lowest to highest prepared and the research I used to get these figures. If they do not offer me a raise I would ask for the reason. If there is a qualifation I may not have but was this was never mentioned to me. Then I would get the qualifations that I may be missing and ask if I received the other qualifations would they reconsider giving me a raise. If the company can not afford or refuses to give me a raise if I meet all qualifations than I would start looking for a different job. Imdeed, (2023)
Question for the class. What steps would you take if you had all qualifations required and the company still refuses to give you a raise?

Health insurance has been around since the 1930s. Medicare was introduced in 1965, and then in the 1980s came managed care. According to Shi and Singh (2023), “managed care is a mechanism for providing health care services in which a single organization takes on the management of financing, insurance, delivery, and payment”(Shi & Singh, 2023, p. 190). Managed care skyrocketed in an era when healthcare costs were skyrocketing.
Several factors contributed to the growth of managed care. One is increasing healthcare costs, the inflation of medical care costs was 117% (Shi & Singh, 2023). With a need to control costs, health benefits saw a shift towards managed care. This was mostly due to the promise of cost control, emphasis on preventive care, and its attractiveness to both employers and healthcare consumers seeking more affordable healthcare options (Marcinko, 2021).
The focus on managed care helped improve outcomes and efficiency in health care. This was done by emphasizing prevention, coordination, and the appropriate utilization of resources. These factors combined helped decrease the per capita health spending in the nation, premiums declined, and lowered hospital length of stay (Lagoe et al., 2005). However, there was some opposition, and lawsuits came in waves, and with those came strained relationships between plans and providers. Contracts were terminated and network instability forced managed plans to change their business profiles loosening referral requirements, and authorization requirements (Lagoe et al., 2005).
Integration has impacted the delivery of healthcare significantly. The World Health Organization officially describes integrated healthcare as:
a system wherein continuous services such as health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, disease management, rehabilitation, and nursing treatment are provided according to the needs of different stages of the lifecycle of the population through the cooperation between different levels of medical institutions in the health system (Feng et al., 2021).
Overall integrated healthcare is seen as a success, it fosters collaboration, enhances efficiency, and improves patient outcomes through a more interconnected and coordinated approach to healthcare services.
The future of healthcare delivery will continue to evolve, and patient care demands will increase. The reasons will involve a blend of technological advancements, personalized care approaches, increased focus on mental health, and a concerted effort to address accessibility and equity in healthcare services (Garson & Levin, 2001). These trends are going to guide how healthcare evolves. The evolution will be a balancing act between balancing the needs of an older generation with acute illness and a younger generation who have different needs. The older generation will not always be able to adapt to the changes the younger generation will want. The younger generation wants to provide better experiences, more convenience, and better coordination between health and wellness programs (Schiavone & Ferretti, 2021). These differences between generations start with technological advances and how communication has changed between generations.
The evolving landscape of healthcare has changed both delivery methods and patient care demands. Change is inevitable and healthcare is not exempt from it. Healthcare will evolve with patient demands for convenient, personalized, and holistic care. This change or evolution can be seen throughout the Bible. Isaiah 43:19 says “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”  (New King James Version, 2013). This verse tells us not to shy away from change but encourages adapting to change while remaining grounded in faith and principles. It is important to embrace change with faith, acknowledging God’s sovereignty in all circumstances, especially with the continuous evolution and innovation of the healthcare industry.

Based on what I know about JCCA and its values, I think it is a great organization committed to positively impacting the lives of individuals and families. Their focus on compassion, integrity, and empowerment aligns with my values, and seeing their work is inspiring. I would consider JCCA a potential place to contribute and make a difference.
2.  At Porter’s House, we strive to help children overcome obstacles in order to grow and thrive across various settings. We firmly believe that in order for this to happen, we must first NURTURE children by providing them with a safe and encouraging environment, one that enables them to build healthy relationships. The values they display are social and emotional skills for children and teens in diverse communities, these groups and sessions are held by professionals with social work backgrounds and experience in dealing with children and young adults who may display aggressive behaviors towards authoritative figures. Training is provided on de-escalation and restraints if needed, CPR and first aid training are mandatory and paid for by this company. The employees, the children, and the parents of the children being serviced all rave about the program and the skills they offer from learning how to cope with different emotions to the breathing and calm down techniques used so children can learn to self sooth. This place seems like an impactful, and affordable program for families who are considered to be living in poverty.

In the 1980s, managed care expanded across the country, which marked a watershed moment in American healthcare.  Managed care aimed to efficiently organize and manage healthcare services in response to rising healthcare costs and the need for cost management. According to Scales (2021), managed care models put an emphasis on efficient and well-coordinated care, which has a major influence on healthcare delivery.   He highlights the importance of cooperation across healthcare professions and the positive effect of integration on patient outcomes in his research on integrated care models. An emphasis on health preservation to avoid expensive interventions was central to this paradigm, which also placed a premium on preventative care and therapy that were cost-efficient. Capitation, gatekeeping, and network utilization were some of the tactics put into place by the new healthcare organizations that emerged: Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). The goal of implementing these measures was to better control costs without compromising on the delivery of comprehensive healthcare.
Managed care has also had a major effect on the provision of medical treatment.     Because of this change, healthcare providers are now financially motivated to put an emphasis on value-based care rather than  a number of services provided, as opposed to fee-for-service approaches.    To maximize care provision and ensure consistency, patients were encouraged to seek medical treatment inside specialized networks. The goal was to increase cooperation among healthcare practitioners within these networks (Himmelstein et al., 2020). Additionally, usage review procedures were established as a result of managed care’s introduction to ensure treatments were appropriate and necessary, which impacted the acquisition and utilization of healthcare services.
In addition, healthcare integration has revolutionized the delivery of medical treatment by bringing together medical, behavioral, and social services.   Health outcomes are affected by numerous complex factors beyond just medical interventions, and as a result, comprehensive and patient-focused care strategies have been adopted as a result of integration (Jaušovec & Gabrovec, 2023). The result has been better patient outcomes and more effective care coordination because to the increased cooperation between various healthcare providers made possible by this change.  Patients may be certain that they will receive continuous and comprehensive care from a variety of specialists thanks to integrated care models, which aim to reduce fragmentation.
Therefore, the future of healthcare delivery and patient care demand is expected to undergo further transformation.  Technological progress will have a crucial impact on healthcare, facilitating the provision of care from a distance, telemedicine, and individualized treatments based on data analysis. Adopting patient-centered approaches that prioritize individual needs and preferences will continue to enhance the provision of care.  Furthermore, there will be an increased focus on addressing the social determinants of health, which include factors such as educational access, socioeconomic status, and environmental circumstances. This recognition is based on the understanding that these factors have a substantial influence on health outcomes.
The concept of stewardship, as described in the Bible, holds significance in the context of healthcare delivery.  According to 1 Corinthians 4:2 NIV “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”   This principle advocates for the conscientious and ethical administration of resources, in accordance with the concept of effectively managing healthcare while maintaining the quality of care.  Healthcare professionals have the responsibility to deliver compassionate and effective care while also being responsible stewards of limited resources, similar to how managed care aims to use resources wisely.
Ultimately, the expansion of managed care during the 1980s fundamentally transformed the provision of healthcare by emphasizing the importance of cost-efficient and well-coordinated treatment.   Integration has enhanced care by promoting collaboration among providers.   The future of healthcare is expected to incorporate technological innovations, individualized care, and a heightened emphasis on addressing social factors that influence health, all while maintaining responsible management in providing healthcare services.
