Instructions
Choose only 3 of the following terms. Create a “narrative arc” in which you identify a “theme” or “narrative” that connects your chosen terms together. Your narrative is similar to a historical thesis or argument–basically, you are making a claim about how three terms connect together.
Then, fully contextualize each of your chosen terms, describe the historic significance of each chosen term, and connect each chosen term to the others or to your identified theme in a way that shows you understand the “cause-and-effect” relationship between them.
Your narrative arc is due by Saturday at 11:59 P.M.
Please include your “theme” at the top of the narrative arc.
Include the context for each term you choose to include.
Who, what, when, where
Include the significance for each term you choose to include.
Why (Why is this important? Why is it connected to the theme?)
The significance should connect to your theme in some way, or show the connection to the other terms.
There is no required minimum or maximum word count, but the terms should be developed enough that their context, significance, and connection to the theme is clear!
Please submit a Word document, as other file types may not show up in SpeedGrader correctly.
An example of a narrative arc is located at the bottom of this page.

This sample narrative arc Download sample narrative arcdescribes content covered in HIST 1301 (U.S. History before the Civil War), but serves as an example of how to make a historical “theme” and how to create a narrative that ties three different historical terms together. Please feel free to use this as a model when writing your own narrative arc.

Primary Source
B.F. was born in Poland. He and his family, as Jewish people, were sent to the Warsaw ghetto after Nazi Germany invaded Poland. He escaped but was recaptured and sent to Sobibor, an extermination camp on the border of Poland and Ukraine in which ~250,000 Jewish people were executed between 1942 and 1943. In 1943, he participated in a breakout with several hundred other Jewish prisoners. Of the approximately 300 Jewish prisoners who escaped, 60 survived to the end of the war. B.F. recounted his experiences at Sobibor in an interview recorded in 1945.

Prompt:
There are no direct or guided questions associated with this source. To offer such would be to trivialize this event.
Rather, I ask you to reflect on this reading, the content, and your feelings when reading this primary source.
Consider, if you wish, including your prior experience with topics surrounding the Holocaust and your perception of how the Holocaust is viewed by society as a whole now, ~80 years after it was perpetrated.
Please, treat this topic with the gravitas and weight it deserves.
Concerning AI use on this assignment: Given the nature of this content, I would humbly request, if you choose to utilize AI tools to support your writing process, that you choose to limit AI use for this assignment to editing only. We bear a responsibility, as humans, to confront the actions of those humans who perpetrated this event and those humans who remained silent and did not act to prevent this event sooner. It is not meant to be easy, and to avoid grappling with such content is to do a disservice to those like B.F.

Using these articles as evidence (alongside the other things you have learned in the course), how would you characterize democracy in early America?
(For example, did it become more inclusive, or less inclusive? (or both?) What kinds of rights and freedoms did different groups of Americans gain or lose during the first half of the 1800s? What kinds of people had their interests being represented, and how was that changing?)
