If you are unsure about plagiarism and what it entails, please reach out to the instructor BEFORE submitting your short essay.
Choose ONE of the following prompts:
1. One of the central questions that King and X both take up in the collected documents is the necessity for immediate action. How does each man argue that patience is no longer an acceptable request for the activists of civil rights movement? How does each characterize such requests to “wait” on civil rights? Does this agreement provide any room for common ground between the two? Be sure to support your argument with specific evidence from the readings.
2. The overarching difference between King and X is their conception of how civil rights activists should respond to the violence with which some segregationists sought to stop the movement. Describe how King and X each believe activists should respond to violence. Pay particular attention to Malcolm X – is he calling for violence, or is he suggesting something more complex? Are there any areas in which King and X might agree about how to respond to violent resistance from segregationists? Be sure to support your argument with specific evidence from the readings.

Attached here is the fourth exam, which as before is a take-home exam. It covers all of the material corresponding to chapters 12 and 13 (i.e., picking up where we left off with the third exam). Again given that it is a take-home exam, in each case, in order to earn full credit, again, you will need to do more than simply answer the question. In each case, you will also need to provide additional, MEANINGFUL information pertinent to the answer(s). In each case, you will also need to provide additional information pertinent to the answer(s). Put another way, simply providing the correct answer will likely only earn you one point. Additional information should appear in bullet-point format. To be clear, I want MEANINGFUL additional information. I don’t want trivia you found using google. It should be based on the lectures and readings, and should reflect why the individual, event, etc., in question is of interest to historians. These should be formatted as bullet-points; try to be concise, but make sure you provide enough detail that the relationship is clear.
To give an example, if, say, the answer to a question was “Alexander the Great,” additional information might include:
Was the son of Phillip II of Macedonia
Was tutored by Alexander the Great
Established a Hellenistic Empire from Greece to India
Decisive battle in defeating the Persians was the Battle of Gaugamela, in 331 B.C.E.
Not earning you points would be birth dates, death dates, favorite color, height (unless this is somehow really significant, but you would need to indicate how), how one time in his youth, Alexander saved an upside-down turtle (I made that up)… in short, I’m not looking for “fun facts” here! please add enough information

A. Summarize the main points of the section.
B. In your opinion, in what ways did the growing violence predict the coming of the Civil War? Examine the cases of Lawrence, Kansas; John Brown’s raid at Pottawatomie Creek; and, the Sumner-Brooks affair in your response.
2. The Dred Scott Decision pages 430-432
A. Summarize the main points of the section.
B. In your opinion, what does the decision tell us about the U.S. in the 1850s and the “uproar” the decision created?
Directions:
1. There is no defined word count rather the response will be evaluated on a balance of coverage and supportive examples; summarizing more material is not necessarily better than writing a concise, but effective summary.
2. You must include the phrases “In summary,” at the start of each summary and “In my opinion,” at the start of your opinion. Please include a paragraph break between the summary and the opinion.
3. Proofread spelling and grammar; take the time to run a word processing check for both prior to submission.
4. When quoting the textbook narrative, use quotation marks and the first author McGerr in the sentence. Your summary should be a maximum of 20% quoted material; your voice should predominate.
5. Citation of the textbook is not necessary; only cite outside sources of information if you include any.
6. Any information included in a response that is not referenced in the textbook pages MUST be documented and cited properly.

This paper should follow the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) format. Please use the CMOS Note-Bibliography Style, CMOS (NB), not the Author-Date system. Be sure all sources have been cited in the Chicago Manual of Style. Cite all sources using a footnote (or endnote). A footnote contains critical information about sources as they appear in your paper in numeric order. Follow the CMOS (NB) style to properly format each source type. Also, include a bibliography.

Primary Source Reflection
Engage in a conversation that include your own reflection of a primary source that demonstrates how policy impacted Mexican American communities. You will read excerpts from  the 1850 Act for the Government and Protection of Indians, in California – since they are      direct excerpts from the act, they are considered primary sources. As you read through      these excerpts think about the power dynamic within the region – meaning, who has political, economic, and social power after the Mexican American War in the region? Think         about U.S. motives during the era as well, which would have impacted the enforcement of these policies. This act references “Indians” which would have included Natives (who were also oppressed under the Spanish/Mexican government), and Mexicans.
Directions:
Read the primary source, take note of important information that is helpful to understanding the time period. Then reply to this post by including your analysis of the document. As  you do, keep in mind that the intent is to engage in a conversation to discuss how territorial changes (shift from Mexican to United States territory) impacted Natives and Mexicans   within the region.
You may access the document here: 6.3 PrimarySource-1850 An Act for the Government and Protection of Indians.docx
Initial Reply
Identify the policy and the intent of the policy you read.
Analyze the policy by including context (what is happening during the era that helps provide understanding for why this policy might be passed).
Analyze the policy and include the short and long term impact – Include what impact you believe these policies may have on the era.

BREED’S HILL-SIZED ESSAY (75 points)
The historian Gordon Wood once stated “While viewed by many as a purely military struggle, the American Revolution in fact brought about a change in virtually every aspect of 18th-century life.” Based on what you have read in my notes and in the book, I want you to rank in order how much of an impact the Revolution had on the American economy, society, political system, and relations with other nations. Be sure to explain your reasoning for the rankings.
Bunker Hill-Sized Essay (25 points)
What, in your opinion, is the strongest charge that The Declaration of Independence brought against King George III? Why? [And because I like you, I’ll tell you that the Declaration of Independence starts off with an explanation of why we can revolt. It then starts leveling the charges against King George III where it says “He has refused his Assent to Laws…” That’s where you should start looking in the document for a charge that you find particularly obnoxious. Don’t say I never did anything for you!
Your answers should be 3-4 pages, typed and double-spaced. Errors of form will affect your grade.
