BOTH ESSAYS NEED TO BE COMPLETED
ESSAY 1: minimum of 800 words, use in text citation. All readings attached to assignment.
How is the white right shaping and affecting contemporary U.S. politics? Your discussion should incorporate at least 4 of the 5 readings (Rosen, Bracewell, Kitchener, Isom et al, and Ebin), as well as the film “American Insurrection”
ESSAY 2: Book review minimum of 800 words, use in text citation. All readings attached to assignment.
BOOK: Taking America Back for God: Christian Nationalism in the United States, by Andrew L. Whitehead & Samuel L. Perry
What does the text suggest about the gender politics of white nationalism?
Based on the authors’ or editors’ approach to the issues or any explicitly stated philosophy, what is the text’s underlying political and social agenda? The answer to this question should not be: “the book’s subject is…”, but rather, an identification of what the authors’ or editors’ want. What changes in policy, practice, or social structures do they want to bring about? What are they trying to persuade their readers of?
How does the text relate to the course reserve readings? Be very explicit— citing readings. What does the text add to your understanding of the issues we are addressing? Just mentioning other materials is not adequate. You should explain how they relate to the book or vice versa.

For this week’s forum discussion, please use the film and reading to discuss whether you think drag does or changes anything in the world beyond just entertainment. You might consider how you think it impacts people’s perceptions of gender, or the gender binary itself. You can also consider other things it might do, like create community. Does drag have any negative consequences?
If you have experience seeing or performing drag, feel free to include those examples to support your discussion points.

Discussion 2 is based on content from “Sexual Violence and Rape Culture.”
All 5 questions are mandatory & all questions require citations (total 6 citations). Citations should be included within your answer and a full reference included at the end of your answer (see discussion post guidelines for examples). You should also respond to one classmate’s post. In order to ensure you receive the grade you have earned, remember to number your responses so it is clear to me which question you are answering.
Part 1:
Review the powerpoint from Week 5 titled “PPT: Sexual Violence & Campus Sexual Violence StatisticsActions.” This powerpoint lists statistics highlighting differing perspectives on sexual assault prevalence which varied across studies and across demographic groups (e.g. race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, year in school, etc). What were your reactions to this? Why do you think these disparities/inequities may exist? (50 words minimum, must include 1 citation from course material, 1 point)
What is meant by the term “rape culture?” (150 words minimum, must include 1 citation from course material and 1 citation from outside the course, 2 points)
Module 2 content presented multiple and opposing perspectives regarding if we truly live in a rape culture and if we should be using this term. Summarize these opposing and multiple perspectives. (150 words minimum, must include 1 citation from course material, 2 points)
Based on your own observations, does rape culture exist and should we be using this term? Do we live in a rape culture? Why or why not? Feel free to include screen shots from social media or examples from media or your environment to support your perspective (150 words minimum; must include 1 citation from either course material or from outside the course, 2 points)
You learned about a lot of different concepts and perspectives in our “Sexual Violence and Rape Culture” module. Select one concept or perspective that was covered in this module and expand on it in some way that was not covered in the course content. For example, you may have wanted to learn more about sexual violence among people with disabilities or among Indigenous populations or there may be certain voices you want to amplify. You can take this opportunity to perform your own research and report back on what you find. (150 words minimum; 1 citation required; must be from outside course content, 2 points)
Part 2 (1 point)
Comment on a classmate’s post (3 sentences minimum).
Saying things like “good job” or “I agree” is not enough. Please provide a thoughtful response to some aspect of your classmate’s post.
For example: What was your reaction to their post? Was there anything they did not discuss that you think is important?

First, in your own words, briefly discuss the differences between serial murder,

First, in your own words, briefly discuss the differences between serial murder, mass murder, and spree murder. Provide at least three differences between each of the above concepts. Also, cite at least one example of an actual case of serial murder, mass murder, and spree murder. Next, when discussing the various motivations of serial murder, what type of serial murderer do you believe that serial killer, Gary Ridgeway is and why? It must be evident that you have a familiarity with this killer, and you need to fully support your answer. Next consider the FBI’s new definition of serial murder in 2008. In your opinion, is this new definition too broad or is it the best definition to date? Defend your argument and fully elaborate. Finally, after reading and reflecting upon Chapter Two, why do you suppose the notion of evil so difficult to define? Identify and fully discuss at least two attempts where scholars have tried to define evil. How do you define it? Does your definition agree with those of the scholars? Why or why not? Point to various aspects of Chapter Two to support your response. 2.)Often, the layperson tends to use the terms psychosis and psychopath interchangeably; however, scholars of serial murder know that these are, in fact, not the same thing. In your own words, discuss the differences between these two terms very different terms. Next, provide a discussion of the M’Naughten Rule. Why is insanity a legal term and not a psychiatric distinction? Next, consider serial killer Ed Gein. After reading about him in Chapter Three, do you believe he was suffering from psychosis, or rather was he a psychopath? Take a position either way and support it. It must be evident that you have a clear understanding of these two terms as well as an understanding of Ed Gein’s background. Next, after reflecting upon Chapter Four, discuss how social class theory explains why male serial killers usually select female victims. Finally, in your own words, describe how the trauma-control model of violent behavior explains the cyclical experience of serial offenders. 3.)First, in your own words, analyze and discuss the differences between preparatory paraphilia and attack paraphilia. In your opinion, does having a preparatory paraphilia make an individual inclined toward becoming a serial killer? Fully elaborate. Next, in your opinion, can a person render meaningful consent to be murdered? For example, in the Armin Meiwes’ case, would it be appropriate for prosecutors to seek a lesser charge if the “victim” was clearly a willing participant and volunteered to be murdered? Provide a discussion and point to facts of the Armin Meiwes’ case to bolster your argument. Next, according to the book, after he was apprehended and labeled as a serial killer, Ted Bundy attracted many young female followers, who sent him letters of love and support. During his incarceration in Florida, he even managed to father a child. Does it surprise you that many serial killers, such as Ted Bundy, are able to attract a variety of female admirers and often get married after they are convicted of multiple murders? Why do you think this phenomenon has occurred, and what do these women have to gain from establishing a friendship or relationship with a serial murderer? Fully elaborate. Next, in your opinion, are healthcare killers, especially those who murder multiple victims, sexually motivated? Make an argument either way. Be sure to refer to the course material to support your argument. Finally, fully discuss the role that gender plays in offending patterns and victim selecting among healthcare killers.

First, explain why, in your opinion, so much media, including film and televisio

First, explain why, in your opinion, so much media, including film and televisio

First, explain why, in your opinion, so much media, including film and television, is devoted to the depiction of serial killers. Elaborate. Next, in your opinion, why have African American males become such prolific serial killers over the last 15 years? Elaborate and provide a convincing explanation to support your argument. Also, there are very few, if any, African American female serial killers? Why do you suppose this is, given the fact that there has been such a huge inflation of African American male serial killers in recent years? Next, according to the book, African Americans and Caucasians very seldom team up as accomplices in serial killing? In your opinion, why do you suppose this is? Elaborate. Next, after reflecting upon Chapter Eight and the presentation, “Deconstructing the Link Between Kenneth Bianchi and Doug Clark,” are you surprised by the way that some incarcerated serial killers are able to exert power over women outside of the prison? Specifically, why do think Veronica Compton was influenced by not one, but two, incarcerated serial killers? Elaborate. Hopefully by now, you have read about half of the book, The Man with the Killer Smile. If you like you may point to some aspects of this book to support any one of your arguments. Finally, once you have answered all of the above questions, please pose an original thinking question to the class.
