A. KB-Why is the net present value rule an important concept for financial managers? The financial manager can be used to compare different rates and project rates if it is required to be approved as an investment.
Provide an example of how NPV is used in capital budget decisions.
It analyzes the profit of a project or investment that a company has and for future projects. Also launching different projects, vehicles, machines, and facilities.
B. KB-What is the beta for the company you selected? What does the beta measure for this asset?
The target’s beta is 1.118 percent.
2. Compare the beta to a similar company. Is it higher or lower? There is a similar company but it is higher than Target’s staples distribution and retail center it is 21.52 percent higher than Target.
3. Compare the beta for two additional companies from a different sector, such as healthcare or communications. Describe the differences and similarities. Health tech vs Digital Health
Health tech – consists of software as a medical device, mobile health, and Healthcare IT solutions
Digital consisting some of the similarities include: in software medical devices and mobile health and the differences are they have to wear devices and it also includes telehealth and telemedicine.
C. The company that I picked was AT&T. The beta for AT&T is 0.71. Beta for this asset measures the risk or volatility of a company’s share price in comparison to the market as a whole.
Verizon’s Beta is 0.40. It is lower than AT&T which it is 0.71.
Johnson & Johnson Beta is 0.54, McDonald’s Beta is 0.74. AT&T, McDonald’s, and Johnson & Johnson operate in different industries, they are all large, established companies with relatively stable revenue streams. Their betas vary because they are based on different industry dynamics, business models, and other factors.
D. JG-The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted significant changes in Apple Inc.’s capital structure. Firstly, there has been an increased reliance on debt issuance despite Apple’s historically strong cash position, aiming to capitalize on favorable interest rates and ensure liquidity amidst economic uncertainty. While Apple’s preference for cash reserves remains intact, the decision to increase debt issuance during the pandemic reflects a strategic response to unprecedented challenges. This was different for apple inc. because there was a time when people was trying to conserve their money and not spend on anything because nobody was working at that time.
While some changes, such as increased debt issuance, may continue to some extent, Apple is known for its prudent financial management and may revert to a more conservative approach over time. Some changes. With how crazy the interest rates, economic recovery trajectories, and competitive dynamics will influence Apple’s decisions regarding capital structure. So things could change for the better or it stay the same.
E. KB-What changes have occurred as a result of the pandemic? A lot of people lost their loved ones because of COVID-19, job losses, and people having to wear masks all the time to prevent spreading the disease. A lot of businesses shut down as a result and some of them never even reopened because they went out of business. Everyone was trapped in the house and was forced to isolate themselves. Because of this a lot of businesses have put a shield between them in their customers not only that it created a lot of social isolation that a lot of people unfortunately are still struggling with and people are working more remotely now versus going in person to work.
Do you think the changes will continue in a post-pandemic environment? I don’t think so I do think some things will continue to be permanent but some things are returning to normal. The only think that won’t change is remote work which a lot of people weren’t doing before the pandemic and school online.
