Are The Influences Of Social Media On Family Values All Bad?

Family values refers to the ‘ideas or beliefs that give great importance to the traditional family of a mother, a father, and children all living together’(1) which cover spiritual and religious values, family communications, educational values, family time and family traditions (2). It teaches children to distinguish between wrong or right and plays a huge role in a child’s upbringing. For the purpose of this report, I will focus on the effects of social media on family time and family communication. Family time is the time spent together as a family doing activities like sports or arts to even just sitting together for meals. Communication within a family unit is very important: it enables them to express concerns and feelings (16).

Social media according to the Oxford dictionary is defined as ‘websites and software programs used for social networking’ (19). For example Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others. It is a platform which helps people voice out their opinions and beliefs while also allowing people to make friends and stay in touch with family and current friends from around the world. Social media networking is a form of globalisation as through it our world is more interconnected as it provides us a platform to communicate with anyone, anywhere and it’s faster and cheaper to share ideas and information. According to Datareportal as of 2020, almost 51% of the total global population (approximately 3.96 billion people) use social media (4).

Family communication and time can be neglected as our busy daily schedule leaves barely a few hours for families to communicate as they become occupied with their school, chores and work lives; the most common time spent together are meal times (26). Having meal times together benefits a child and parent because experiences and how the day has been spent can be expressed, making parents more aware of their child’s life and challenges. Sharing time with child information on how work life is provides the child a glimpse of the struggles a parent goes through for them. Which creates and closer bond between parent and child and more importantly it gives them a time to interact and build better relationships and communication.

A smart phone can easily become a source of distraction for both parents and children. Many people don’t realise how much time they spend on social media. According to a survey 61% of people surveyed agreed that the overuse of technology has had a negative impact on family life (11). It is very common for teens to have social media accounts. According to study by New York Behaviour Health 22% of teenagers log on to their favourite social media site more than 10 times a day and more than half of adolescents log on to a social media site more than once a day(7). Approximately 75% of teenagers own cell phones, and 25% use them for social media, 54% for texting and 24% for instant messaging Children, ages 8-18, spend over 7.5 hours a day, 7 days a week using media sites outside of school(7). Research conducted by Market Watch showed that the average teen spends at least nine hours online (13). The average 12th grader spends approximately 2 hours texting, 2 hours on social media and 2 hours just browsing the internet (13). In fact 72% of parents say their teen is sometimes or often distracted by their phone while having real-life conversations(14) but of course communication is a two way system whilst parents claim that their child doesn’t pay attention to them, so do the 51% of teens who say the same about their parents(14). According to Understood Org, 56% of US residents find others use of electronics during family mealtimes annoying (11) . Better quality family time also strengthens bonds leading to happier memories of each other. The mere presence of a parent means nothing if the parent is occupied with social media uploading pictures on Facebook or Instagram so much so that they aren’t actually focusing on their child.

Parents may even post child’s achievements on social media to compete against other families which makes time spent together seem scripted and all an act for social media. A not high achieving child would feel worthless as they would be under the stress of competing and can result in friction between the two children. Emotional neglect of a child is believed to negatively affect the emotional, social and cognitive development (12).

According to a study by National Library of Medicine teens are very vulnerable to socials standards and many tend to develop insecurities from peer pressure and social media (5). It is common for a teen to post their best days and best looks on social media. Some even hop into the bandwagon of trends just to seem accepted and cool if not they feel inferior and feel the need to seem cool or else they wouldn’t be socially accepted for example many teens pick up smoking and drinking alcohol from peer pressure. This leads them to spending less time with their families and instead more time online trying to keep up with trends. This can lead to mental illnesses which further leads to a neglect on family life and also social media addiction.

According to an article by Healthy Option being distracted with social media and notifications can lead to a social media addiction which can causes increase in fatigue, stress, peer pressure and can lead to obesity and other health issues(21). According to a study by Harvard University this is because the brain releases dopamine which makes you feel happy every time a notification is received therefore the brain develops a desire for more social media interaction (22). Therefore people with social media addiction tend to spend more time on social media then with their family and friends, this leads to a lack of social skills. Social media communication is not the same as real life conversing you would need to know how to read body languages, tone of voice and other aspects like eye contact and hand movement absence of face to face conversations one tends to lose skills and become reserved and become socially awkward (21).

On the other hand the advantage of social media is that it helps strengthen family communication. These days distance is not an issue and digital technology helps us stay connected with our family from all around the world. Through social media platforms roughly two thirds (67%) of social media users say that staying in touch with current friends and family members is the major reason they use social media. About half of the group say they use these sites to reconnect with old friends (3). Those who study overseas have to rely on social media to maintain communication with their family. Family members who live abroad now have access to video on video conference apps like Facetime and Skype and picture sharing through Instagram or Facebook. Helping them get the real life feeling of being together. Video calling also helps communication as one can easily call an overseas family member during celebrations or in times of need. An example of this would be during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, many used social media and video conferences to stay in touch with their families overseas. In this people were able to screen their wedding allowing family members around the globe to witness happy moments despite facing a pandemic.

Social media is a powerful asset for gender equality. Women around the globe are now able to work, get equal excess to education and have a platform to raise their voice on (20). Despite this there are women who receive backlash for the content they posting online. An example of this would be the murder of Qandeel Baloch, a Pakistani social media celebrity who was murdered in 2016 by her brother who believed her social media posts brought dishonour to the family name. These types of murders are called honoured killings and are common in Pakistan, in fact vice chair of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has provided statistics that 1,500 killings occurred between 2016 and 2018(23). However majority people did not see this as a crime as they believed she was a disgrace and that her murder was justified and in fact a powerful lesson for women (24). However her murder has enhanced laws on honour killing and caused a shift for women (25).

According to a reliable resource, Malaysia pulls in 23.4 million social media users (6). Malaysian culture is a mix of people from India, Malay and Chinese culture. Overall Malaysian culture is based on the religious and traditional believes of the three main ethnic groups. Islam is the official religion, followed by three fifth populations is Muslim therefore the laws follow the Shariah law too (9). An example would be child marriage being allowed in Malaysia, as long as the female is of 16 years old and the male is of 18 years old as stated in the Islamic family law. According to newspaper article by New Strait Times, as of 2019, 5823 Muslim child marriages registered in Malaysia, with Sarawak having the highest number at 974, followed by Sabah with 877, and Kelantan with 848 (10). It may seem wrong to people of other countries therefore through them sharing their opinion on social media many Malaysians have started to question the cultural values by comparing or viewing in a different cultural perspective against our national belief system. Some cultures and practises that doesn’t make sense or are unaccepted to other social groups but because we have been influenced to believing them therefore we tend to not question it however with the rise in use of social media we are then exposed to the ideas and beliefs of others and are able to make judgement based on other perspectives too. In a recent survey conducted with hundreds of Form 4 (16 to 17 years old) students in 10 schools in Taiping and Kuala Lumpur, most of the male and female respondents disagreed that it was acceptable for girls to be married before the age of 18. This shows that the respondents reject child marriages (10). Therefore it can be concluded that social media has managed to bring up issues in this law and it is now being revised

A common way to prevent social media from having a negative effect on family is firstly to limit screen time. It is common for a child to pick up from their parents behaviour and habits so a child may have picked up being addicted to social media from observing their parents (15) so if their parents could set an example and use their devices less the child would also learn to limit usage. This helps increase time spent together and reduces the risk of social media addiction. However if a person were diagnosed with social media addiction they can get clinical help and therapy. Providing proper education on the effects of social media and negative impacts of social media addiction can also help make parent and child realise how bad social media is for them and they can learn the importance of family values.

In conclusion, despite social media aiding us in communication, sharing of ideas and bring a sense of togetherness in times where we can’t be together the harmful effects certainly out weight the benefits. We may not realise that it is slowly tearing our families apart despite promising better connections. I believe that social media does have negative impact onto family values and in order to maintain the values we have, we must restrain our social media usage. Personally my perspective on the topic wasn’t different before researching for the report however after conducting research I am now further understands the consequences and am able to apply what I have learnt into my daily life

Reflection on My Spring Break with My Family

In my family, we have a naming tradition. Your first name is whatever your parents fancy, your middle is your father’s name, and your last is your grandfather’s name. For my parents the name Hassan really spoke to them it was the religious significance of the name that really drew my mother in. I am Muslim just as much as I am African. Both identities have created a conflicting and troublesome dynamic. However, that isn’t all that defines me I had barely understood myself until the spring break of my sophomore year. To set the stage, I was in my room listening to Chance the Rapper’s song “Prom Night” feeling every lyric in my core; I was sprawled on my bed with photoshop pulled up on my banged up laptop. I started bobbing my head yelling the lyrics out. Graduation night teachers Ferris buellerd my name. It seemed to anyone else but me like a seizure had been stitched into a private musical performance. You got a mixtape good job I hope you get a good jump we were all outcasts only listened to good mob. I performed at fun fair fun fact I’m never going back to school been there done that. My brother stuck his head in my door unannounced.

“Hey bro you trying to go to this photoshoot with me?” he asked.

“Where that joint at?” I inquisitively asked looking up from my computer screen.

“You coming or not?” he asked looking impatient and in a rush to get out of the house.

“Yeah alright let me get ready right quick,” I yelled as he walked through the small hallway that connects the upper floor of our house.

At that point, I had put on my clothes at roadrunner speed and was out the door. My brother and I drove out of our hood, which was located in East Nashville. First, we went by the home of my brother’s business partners, Tre and Brandon. This was the first time that I met people who looked and came from the same cultural background as me doing something like running a business. It in a way inspired me to pursue something bigger than what I had known. Growing up African, my immediate community was full of people whose only dreams were to be soccer players or people who had no real ambition at all.

We drove back into East Nashville passing run-down businesses and local schools. The female models were unable to make but the male models were already there. I wasn’t even sure how I could contribute. The shoot was in the in the courtyard of a recently built condo right across from an abandoned church sprayed with beautiful graffiti. Down the street was a Family Dollar across from it was a Burger UP and First Tennessee Bank. It was a sunny day; we looked out of place a bunch of African American men in East Nashville. The photoshoot was shot by local photographer Keptfrozen. I watched my brother command the photographers. It was then that I was asked to be the one who recorded behind the scenes. I found myself joking, ordering people, and capturing the small moments. I asked questions about everything, by the end, I couldn’t shake the feeling that that was where I was supposed to be.

This moment in time began the conflict between how I was raised and what I aspired to be. Art was the complete opposite of how I grew up. All I had known was the isolation of my room and the confines of religion. My brother inspired me to pursue my own path. Seeing the need to have more places where kids can express themselves, my nonprofit that I called Censor. Our mission: create a safe and uncensored environment for teens to express themselves through collaboration and mentor ship. It’s funny how all of this started from a small photo shoot during one spring morning.

Essay about Personal Artefact

Artifacts are an important part of human civilization, artifacts that come from different parts of the world and are unique symbols to many cultures. These are found all over the world and are passed from generation to generation. Artifacts are made up of music, art, literature, philosophy, and religion which are deeply rooted in specific types of cultures. The Statue of Liberty for example is an artifact that represents the United States as a country, it represents freedom and the American dream. For many years other countries have looked at us as a young nation who have stood up for justice, freedom, and democracy. The Statue of Liberty is considered more than a cultural artifact. Like the Statue of Liberty is an artifact of America, a significant artifact that I cherish is my grandma’s old cross from Ecuador, even though I’m not as religious as the rest of my family members the cross is a family artifact that has protected us and guided us through tough times. Artifacts signify different things to many people and we need to value how each person experiences artifacts.

The cross is a frequently used cultural artifact that has been around for millions of years, from the moment that it was first invented till now, it has been a symbolic symbol for many Christians, who see it as a representation of their beliefs and values. In the new world encyclopedia it mentions how today besides the common representation that the cross has with Christianity, there are other forms where the cross represents something else. Several countries like Switzerland and Britain use the cross as a symbol for their flag, not to forget the red cross emblem which was based on the Swiss flag. Even though the cross has different meanings for many different people most believe that the meaning behind the cross is related to religious freedom and morals. Where my parents come from South America, religion is a huge part of people’s lives. It’s traditions that have been going strong for years. Even though religion has declined it still dictates how most people choose to live their lives. Depending on your background, people can interpret the meaning of the cross in many different ways. For me, a cross symbolizes a piece of my belief and morals. Growing up, I was born and raised in a Catholic family. I attended church every Sunday with my parent and because of this, the cross was always present, at home and at church. They told me it was a symbol of how Jesus Christ sacrificed his life to save ours. The cross was also a source of comfort in hard times, so from early childhood, the cross was a positive thing in my life.

Even though I and many other people have a positive view of the cross many people may associate the cross with negative views. I have to remember that others have seen the cross or what it represents as a direct attack on how they live or what they believe. For example, an artist by the name of David Wojnarowicz whose work was the subject of the Smithsonian Museum of attempted the removal of Wojnarowicz’s video which the artist intended as an anguished tribute to his partner who died from AIDS in 1987. “The Smithsonian bowed to select Republican politicians and conservative groups (most of whom, interestingly enough, may not have actually seen the exhibit) but were upset because the video contained an 11-second segment showing ants crawling on a crucifix” (Ketchum, Robert). So, just as I and many other people have a right to see the cross as a symbol of good, David Wojnarowicz has the right to see it as a sign of evil, we are no one to judge another person’s perspective and experience with a cultural artifact, artifacts itself are meant to hold multiple meanings. People like Wojnarowicz see the cross, and it reminds them of an institution who have a set of rules which people need to follow or else they will be rejected and tormented by those same people who believe that the cross signifies hope, and as I remember the church does not condone those practiced of intolerance and hate.

Artifacts are precious reminders of how culture is presented. I see artifacts as representations of someone’s values. I have learned that an artifact can have so much meaning in one’s life. Me, I never really thought about how much of my life a cross represented and the significance of this figure in my life, until now.

What Does Family Mean to You: Opinion Essay

Family is the representation and foundation of self. This unity of acceptance of each other respect unconditional sacrifices, love, and support is built through past, current, and future generations. The family goes beyond bloodlines and last names. We share similar beliefs and customs. Building strong family customs and traditions allows generations to use self-preservation of identity. Family means something different to each of us. We often adapt to family members which our family extends. Second, you should explain how your use of symbols, placement of family members, connecting lines, and boundaries represent the members of your family and particularly the relationships within the family. For my family genogram, I used a diagram that shows a pictorial display for those of my family.

The symbols I have chosen are squares and circles. My mother’s side of the family is far small. My father’s side has a huge family. There are huge add differences between his sibling. My father is the last born of the family. I placed an ‘X’ over those that have deceased as a symbol for their cross-over or homegoing. My mother and father were married for 5 years. My parents choose to divorce when I was only 2 years old. However, despite their divorce. My father remarried when I was at the age of 6. My father and my stepmother had two children by the time I was 10. I have a younger brother and sister on my father’s side. I also have a brother who is 16 years younger than me on my mother’s side by my mother’s ex-husband. I also showed my mother’s side of the family. I also showed my mother’s side of the family. I have 2 aunts and 1 uncle on my mother’s side with 4 cousins. Both of my grandparents on my mother’s side passed away in the early 80s. My grandmother on my father’s side was the only grandparent that I have ever lived to see. My grandfather passed away after I was born. On my father’s side, I have 1 uncle and 2 aunts. I have 3 cousins. I also showed my grandaunt and my great cousin that gave birth to my great cousins,3 generations, 5 in total which I consider close family. There are all around my age. I see my family as an open family. Both my mother’s side and father’s sides of the family value strong communication with each other. My mother’s side is willing to change or adapt. The problem with my father’s side of the family is that they are close-knitted which pulling away from family or setting boundaries from members that you may consider toxic can be seen as abandonment. For instance, my father took care of my uncle that got released from prison. My uncle ‘did not want to change, as my father stated. My father is the baby brother and he seems to have so much pressure to help and assist my uncle. My aunts were so upset that they felt as if my father was pulling away from them. Family involvement is excepted to be intense on my father’s side. A closed family system can be left unchanged. A closed family system can be strict in which family member implies that there everyone follows rules even though they are not appropriate or valuable to ones oneself. There is no flow of information in which family members tend to change which can hinder their growth. There are no new ideas that come into the system(Stern,2017). For instance, it is like living in a house with no windows are doors. People can not flourish. My mother and her sisters were adopted and raised by my great-grandparents in Louisiana. My uncle was raised by my grandmother and his father in California. Just like my father, my mother was the last born of her brother and sisters as well. My aunts were considered rebellious and often struggled with substance abuse. I have also heard stories in which my aunts were emotionally and physically abusive to one another. However, my great-parents ignored the abuse that took place. Despite my father’s and mother’s upbringing, I consider that my current family structure is known to be random. My father and mother both instill in me to value my own creativity and novelty. I always see myself in both of my parents, however, both of my parents encouraged me to value my own individuality. Random families can have problems with structure and boundaries if they are not alert or do not set permeable boundaries. The open family orients to the past, present, and future with the balance between continuity and change.

What Family Means to Me: Essay

The word “family” is special, and unique in many different aspects. While some believe family is purely a blood relation, others realize that family is much more than that. It is about loyalty and the people who support you, no matter the circumstance. This essay will argue why the relationship of the bezprizorni in The Wild Children is an accurate representation of a family in a modern context.

To begin, I will be discussing what classifies a member of a family. Firstly, blood relations are not the only way to classify a member as being part of a family. For instance, if you adopted a child it would become a member of your family, without being blood-related to you. Thus, the family does not necessarily need to be blood-related in order to become family. In The Wild Children, Peter and Alex, two bezprizorni, both recognize that they are a family. In particular, Alex said, “No Peter, he entreated. Come with us. We are a… a family.” (pg.148) Peter then said, “Yes…And I am going back for others in the family.” This shows that there is a very strong bond between Peter and Alex who are part of the bezprizorni. They would do anything to ensure their safety and well-being. Therefore, Alex, Peter, and the bezprizorni are classified as a family without having any blood relation among them.

Next, I will go into more detail on the loyalty of family, and the support they provide. To begin, a member of the family has extreme loyalty as one will not abandon another, especially during difficult times in life. For instance, before the bezprizorni escaped the local children’s home, Peter went to find Anya, a member of the bezprizorni. Peter explains, “Anya was curled like a kitten on a window ledge, sleeping soundly. He lifted her gently and hurried to the window.” (pg. 108) This statement demonstrates Peter’s sense of care and loyalty toward Anya by not abandoning her at the local children’s home. Another point regarding family involves the unconditional support it embodies. Connecting to The Wild Children, Peter helped Miska, another bezprizorni member escape the harsh local children’s home. Peter acted quickly after, “The leather bludgeon in the director’s hand was raised and brought down in one continuous heavy motion.” (pg. 100) which struck Miska. Moreover, Peter was handed an inch of vodka, “sniffed it, put a drop on his tongue, and then poured it all over the wound.” (pg. 101) This situation reveals the immense amount of moral support Peter gave to Miska which he also displays with other bezprizorni members. Overall, this shows that the bezprizorni never abandon another, no matter the circumstances, and that they always stay loyal to one another as a family.

As I discussed in the previous paragraph, a family’s support and loyalty are important, which the bezprizorni established throughout The Wild Children. Moreover, blood relation is not the only factor at play in determining who is part of a family. The bezprizorni showed how strong their bond is without having any blood relation through multiple life experiences between Peter, Alex, Anya, and Miska. Therefore, this proves that the word “family” developed a new interpretation as a result of the story, now with a new form/meaning.

What Is Family Essay

God designed the family. The family is the foundational institution of society ordained by God. It is constituted by marriage and is composed of people related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption.

Family means having someone to love you unconditionally in spite of your shortcomings. The family loves and supports one another even when it is not easy to do. It is being the best person you could be so you may inspire your loved ones. Family does not see color, race, creed, or culture, it sees the heart. Family is not always about being connected biologically, because it understands that other things and influences blind us. Family is unrelenting.

A family provides much-needed emotional, social, financial, and other support to us. Without family, life would be unimaginably difficult, and everyday tasks would have been impossible to achieve. The feeling that someone loves you and waiting for you to return safe and on time can be better experienced than stated. The importance of a family is well understood by those who do not have one. Being all alone in this big world is the worst thing to happen to someone; on the contrary, having a family is the best. Family is not just important, rather, it is the most important.

Regardless of what form of family you have, one this is certain—family shapes us. Our family is our first introduction to the world. It is also our first interaction with it. We learn the most basic and the most important social skills in our family. In addition, we also fulfill our emotional needs through the family. Humans are social animals, which means it is not possible for us to live an entirely solitary life. Modern life is tough and stressful. Handling it becomes a lot easier if you have a support system behind you and that support system is your family.

Love them or hate them, families are a very essential part of our lives. They play crucial roles in teaching how to deal with things in the world. Without a family, an individual’s identity will never be complete. Having a family is such a basic necessity that often we take it for granted. Our families stay with us from our first breath to our last. They provide us with the foundation upon which we build ourselves. To me, family is an extension of myself. It is through family that we learn how to love and be loved, how to give and receive, and how to respect others while earning respect from them. It provides the framework for our views of the world. The socially acceptable version of family is the people who are biologically related to you.

Family acts as the bulwark against the world. On a purely practical level, we are unable to care for ourselves when we came into the world. It is our family who takes care of our basic needs and protects us. As we grow older, that protection expands to give us a place where we can find emotional security as well. Hence, a family has a great influence on how we interact with others and society. To gain productive interaction, we need to follow certain rules and norms. They determine not just the interactions but the thinking that goes beyond these interactions. Without a family, we end up navigating the calms, the storms, and the choppy water of life alone. If we do not have a family to anchor us, we often fail at this navigation and drown under the force of everything that life throws us. Family gives us the strength we need to get through and enables us to celebrate the good things in life.

The Problems of Modern Families

Modern families face a myriad of challenges that can strain the fabric of their relationships. One prominent issue is the increasing prevalence of busy schedules and work demands, which often result in limited quality time spent together. My family holds a special place in my heart, and in this essay, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of my family in greater detail.

Advantages

  • Unconditional Love: One of the greatest advantages of my family is the unconditional love we share. Regardless of the circumstances, I know that my family will always be there for me. They support me in my endeavors, celebrate my successes, and provide comfort during difficult times. This love creates an unbreakable bond among us and gives me a profound sense of security and happiness.
  • Strong Support System: My family acts as a strong support system for each other. We believe in each other’s dreams and aspirations and provide the necessary encouragement to achieve them. Whenever any member of our family faces a challenge or setback, we rally together to offer emotional, financial, and moral support. This support system gives me the confidence to take risks and pursue my goals, knowing that my family is standing by my side.
  • Shared Values and Traditions: My family shares common values and traditions, which serve as a guiding force in our lives. We believe in honesty, integrity, compassion, and hard work. These values have been passed down through generations and help shape our character. Our traditions, such as celebrating festivals together or having regular family gatherings, create a strong sense of unity and reinforce our bond. They provide a sense of continuity and connection to our roots.
  • Emotional Stability: Being part of a loving family provides emotional stability. Knowing that I can rely on my family members for emotional support and understanding is incredibly reassuring. They are always there to lend a listening ear, offer advice, and provide a shoulder to lean on. This emotional stability enables me to navigate the challenges of life with greater resilience and confidence, knowing that I have a safe haven in my family.
  • Lifelong Relationships: My family relationships are lifelong bonds that provide a sense of belonging and connection. These relationships extend beyond immediate family members to include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The bonds we share with extended family members create a rich tapestry of love, shared experiences, and a support network that expands beyond the nuclear family. These lifelong relationships bring joy, support, and a sense of belonging that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Disadvantages

  • Conflict and Differences: Like any other family, we also experience conflicts and differences of opinion. These disagreements can sometimes create tension and strain relationships. While conflict is a natural part of any family dynamic, it can be challenging to manage and resolve. It requires effective communication, compromise, and understanding from all family members to find common ground and maintain harmony within the family.
  • Lack of Privacy: Living in a close-knit family can sometimes result in a lack of privacy. Everyone’s lives are interconnected, and it can be difficult to have personal space or time alone. While this may foster a sense of togetherness and support, it can also limit individual freedom and independence. It is important to establish healthy boundaries and respect each other’s need for privacy to maintain a balance between togetherness and personal space.
  • Expectations and Pressure: Family expectations and pressure to conform to certain norms or traditions can be overwhelming at times. The desire to meet the expectations of my family members can create a sense of pressure and hinder personal growth. Balancing individual aspirations with familial expectations can be a delicate task, and it requires open and honest communication to find a middle ground that respects both individuality and family values.
  • Financial Burden: In some cases, family can become a financial burden. Responsibilities such as education, healthcare, and other expenses can place a strain on the family’s finances. Meeting these financial obligations can be challenging and may require sacrifices from family members. It is important to foster open discussions about financial matters, establish a budget, and support each other in finding sustainable solutions to alleviate the financial burden.

Conclusion

Despite the challenges and disadvantages, the advantages of my family far outweigh the drawbacks. The unconditional love, strong support system, shared values, emotional stability, and lifelong relationships that my family provides are invaluable. While conflicts and differences are natural, they can be overcome through effective communication, compromise, and understanding. The lack of privacy and expectations can be managed by establishing healthy boundaries and maintaining open dialogue. The financial burden can be alleviated through collective efforts and support. Ultimately, my family is a source of immense joy, strength, and comfort in my life, and I am grateful for the blessings they bring. The advantages of being part of a loving and supportive family outweigh any temporary challenges we may face, making my family an essential and cherished aspect of my life.

Essay About Family – 9 (1300 words)

“Family” is a common word that is highly familiar and natural for anyone. This simple word ‘family’ may sound warm and cozy for some people, but it also might be harsh and bitter words to someone. No matter how peaceful and harmonious a family is, it is extremely rare that conflict does not occur. Family members live under the same roof, but each has a different personality and thoughts. The word family has many modifiers: love, attachment, hatred, compassion, and sympathy. There have been innumerable hardships in our family before these modifiers became part of the word family.

I have four family members including Dad, mom, my older sister, and myself. My family is very warm and amicable. But before there was such happiness and harmony among us, there were many conflicts and problems.

There is such a saying that a person spends most of his or her life with his or her family, yet, I do not agree with this remark. It is a biased opinion to judge this sentence with only nineteen years of my life, but I did not spend most of my life with my family even during that short period of nineteen years. When I was eight years old, I was sent to the United States by my parents to study English. At the young age of eight, I was always full of fear and longed for my parents’ love and attention for a long period of four years. After coming back to Korea, my hometown, I went to a dormitory school for five years, which made longer hiatus between the family. Spending such a long time apart, I gradually lost my knowledge of my family. Each of us lived in a different time and became more ignorant of each other. Conflicts began to rise in our family as we had numerous missed circumstances. One of the problems my family faced was when we went on a family trip to Europe for a month. Our family spent a long time together for the first time. Having gone on a free trip, not a package tour, we had to look for all the places we wanted to visit and eat. My sister and I took my parents in search of a place that our family would enjoy. However, wherever we went, my parents were not satisfied and complained. Dad would only complain about his feelings and would not listen to my sister and me. The constant disagreement eventually led to a big fight in our family during the trip and we could not hide our awkwardness until the travel was over. At that time, my family insisted on each argument and did not try to find the elemental reason for the fight.

My family could not leave the conflict alone, so we thought about our problems. The fundamental and primary problem of my family fighting on a long trip was that we did not have enough time to spend time together. During those long-lost years of family time, we had little opportunity to have conversations or communication. Communication is a common word that is more than just important. It is a foundation of every human activity which enables one to build a relationship, and convey clear emotions, opinions, and ideas to other parties (Merriam Webster, 2019). Since my family has been separated from each other for a long time, we rarely had a deep conversation, thus, I did not know much about my parents’ thoughts. When a group of people has to live together without knowing each other, they will eventually get into difficulties. I am usually reluctant to have a conversation with my dad. My dad, who has patriarchal ideas, always thinks he is right and does not try to listen to me. This self-talking method of communication is called one-way communication. In one-way communication, only the sender can address the information to the receiver, who cannot transfer back the response (Chandler, D, & Munday, 2011). This method of conversation not only hurts the receivers’ feelings but also hurts their pride. It leads to discouragement and reduces his or her work performance. Also, it makes the receivers close their minds toward the one-way speaker, which happened to me toward my dad. When he talked only to himself and did not even try to listen to my words, I was displeased and felt that my opinion was ignored. I did not want to talk anymore. At the time, I could not find out how to unravel the relationship.

I learned that the solution for my family is two-way communication. ‘Two-way Communication is one of the communication methods that can be transmitted and received by both the sender and receiver sides. (Chandler, D, & Munday, 2011) It is certainly an essential factor means of living that to understand and communicate with each other more smoothly and naturally, such as sharing opinions and receiving feedback when a message is delivered. I was embarrassed to even talk to my family because I was not an excellent assertive talker. When I first started to talk with my family, every moment was awkward since I never shared my thoughts and daily life with them. My father, who has a blunt personality, also refused to show his innermost opinions. However, the conversation became progressively natural as we shared our worries that we had not been able to share.

Each person has a different personality, and it is no exception for a family. No matter how long they have been together, each one of the family members is an individual. Everyone should respect each other and remember that having other ideas from someone does not mean it is wrong but just different. For family, it is more comfortable with them than with others, but accepting, agreeing, and acknowledging each other’s convictions is critical, which improves the quality of conversation. Among multitudinous factors to develop effective communication skills such as paying attention and actively participating in the conversation, my family needs to learn is focusing on the positive side. Not only looking at each other’s shortcomings but also looking for positive aspects and supporting and encouraging each other. A smooth and seamless communication that trusts and relies on each other will result in a deeper and stable relationship between my family.

Family is a word that is closest, warmest, and heaviest to me. My family is like a shelter where I can lean the most. Sometimes conflicts arise and hurt each other, but they are the people who are the most supportive of me. They give me tingling advice with the sweetest comfort. My family is more harmonious than anyone. Of course, we still fall into problems. However, through many difficult trials, my family learned how to cope with future conflicts. These conflicts and hardships are more conducive to the further development of the relationship. We developed ourselves through a struggle and became more acquainted with each other. It is a real family to rely on each other and share happiness and pain together. Through Interpersonal skills and positive personal development course, I have learned countless skills such as how to communicate with different people in diverse situations or how to maintain good relationships. Yet, the most crucial fact that I realized is the value of my family. I was able to look back on the family relationship and studied how to handle future problems. A Family is invaluable, and I will love my family more.

Importance of Family Essay

Value of family

I am very close to my family. And I loved my family more than anything else. My family is my top priority and always will be. The value of family everyone knows. If someone lives with family, they know the importance of family. And if someone lives stay far from family, they also know or will understand the family’s importance. In India, I have a big family because my family lived with my aunt, uncle, and their children. So, I feel I know the family values very well because of the presence of my family in my life. From age 6 to till today, my family teach me so many things like how to respect people, how to love people, never hurt anyone physically and emotionally, trust, be honest, and many more. Family is also like a school because family teaches us the things like how we need to interact with people. Does the presence of family really matter in life? I feel the family is also an important part of life to learn because sometimes we made mistakes and only the family corrects us.

Family always supports us in good things and corrects us. My sister supports me if I am doing something good. When I made any mistake, she always corrects me. When I was in high school, she supports me to get to graduate on time. Because there were so many circumstances for me to get graduated from high school. Because I had only one year to meet with all the high school and Washington state requirements. So, my sister backs me up and protect my back in high school. And I graduated on time.

The family also helps us to make strong relationships with others. Because if we have family that means we know how to interact with people. How to love them because family is the part that teaches us about love, and we learn from family how to love by seeing family. My family is the best example for me in love because my mom loves my aunt (Dad’s sister-in-law) more than her own sister. And we lived together in India, there was the main reason behind this is my mom and aunt. Because they both want to stay together. Both ladies are the roots of my family because of them we loved each other and connected with each other. When I left my half-family in India, I cried the most just because I am not going to stay anymore with my family. If we love our family, then we will never hurt anyone emotionally because we cannot see anyone crying.

In life, everyone wants to succeed or highly rewarded career. So, our family helps us create a successful future because family gives us valuable suggestions about careers. Family pushes us toward success. The family also guides us to choose the best career and helps us financially to pay our expenses for study. For example, my family wants me to do nursing because they told me nursing have a good opportunity. And they also pay my expenses. I think if my family doesn’t guide me then I will be a dispatcher. There is our family who appreciates us for getting successful.

Most people don’t realize the importance of family in life. They want to spend their family time with friends or maybe on gadgets. They think if we live in a family, the family has so many restrictions on us. But when they are in a problem, the only family helps us to get rid of the problems. At that time, even our best friends refuse to help us, then the family comes to help us. They don’t allow us to do whatever we want to. People also think parent divorce has a bad impact on children. But I think they learn from their parents’ divorce how to keep relationships working. The person who lives stay away from family knows more importance of family than those who live to close family. Because they realized the importance of family on any event, occasion, or festival when they must celebrate without their family. It is very hard to celebrate any event without family members. Then, at that time we realized the importance of family.

Conclusion

Whatever we are today, just because family supports us. They are beside us by day one in the world. We receive so many things from families like financial support, love, guidance, and society. Family trusts us in the failures as well. Friedrich Nietzsche quote about family” In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together”.

Family Tradition Essay

My inspiration in life is my family traditions. My family serves as a lifeline to whom I can run, whatever may be the situation I am facing. I can always depend on my family to guide me and give me the courage to overcome obstacles in life. My parents, being hard-working professionals, know how to manage their time well and with efficiency. Even if they’re busy, they still find time to spend quality time with me. My mother is tall, slim, with long straight red hair, and loves wearing bright, extravagant colors. Always smiles, no matter the circumstances, and that gives me strength and inspiration to face my problems. My father is tall, bulky, with short curly black hair, wears lots of dark clothing, and rarely changes his wardrobe. He is wholehearted and strict, but he has taught me self-discipline and self-control. My older sister Julie has long, frizzy black hair. Petite and prefers to keep up with all the new fashion trends. She is sweet as a peach, loyal, has a big heart, forgives everyone quickly, and is a pleasure to be around. My other sister Crystal is tall, has shoulder-length, brown straight hair, wears tons of black, and can be fierce when she wants to but makes you want to rip out your eyeballs when she annoys you. She is a pro at annoying me. That’s for sure. But that makes me love her more. My older brother Fernando has short black hair, is tall, and stocky, and enjoys wearing dressy clothes. Overprotective, he says he’s an introvert. He isn’t. He says, ‘I like my own time!’, then proceeds to talk to a random person. Fernando is more independent, and he thinks my sisters and I are too girly and annoying, but I understand because he’s the only boy sibling.

Growing up, my family always stuck together. My parents put my siblings and me first all the time. They sincerely care about us. If the food were to run low, they would sacrifice eating to feed us. That’s how much their unconditional love is for us. I believe that the love and care my parents gave me has shaped me to be caring toward others. My parents supported and motivated me when I was unable to do it for myself. I am grateful for their constant support, and I know that whenever it comes to events or emergencies, they would put aside time and effort to be there.

Life with my siblings was incredibly frustrating but also entirely entertaining. Fighting over silly things, always blaming one another, yelling about who gets to watch their TV show first. We have created a long list of hilarious stories. For example, when my sister Crystal tricked me into taking a bite of raw onion when I was about Five. Also, when my brother cut a piece of my sister’s hair. From fighting over the remote to having each other’s backs when trying to sneak out. We were trouble growing up, but it made us have a special bond. Now that we are grown up, we reminisce about the craziness and lively times we had. They motivate me to stay happy.

My favorite thing about family is that as we get old, we can connect to the past through the memories that we share. One of my favorite memories I share with my family to this day is when we camp. It all began when the first time we took a road trip to Utah to visit Zion National Park. I remember it was around fall when the weather was a bit cool. My dad had rented an RV and convinced us all to go. At that time, we all never been camping, so we agreed to go for the experience. When we arrived, The scenery was beautiful. Everything was peaceful, pure, and vibrant. The air smelled delightful, the aroma smelt like rain, wet tree trunks, and flowers. The light of the forest played with the shadows and colors between the trees, making the view a lot more appealing. We were able to hike the trails, be in touch with nature, and at night we were able to stargaze. At that moment, everything was perfect. There was laughter, joy, and happiness that filled our hearts. There was good energy flowing through all of us that day. From then on, we always go back to that park to spend time together. Going camping has become a tradition, and I believe family traditions nourish a family connection, giving us a sense of belonging.

I would compare my family to the movie “Home Alone” because of how big their family is and how the siblings hate but love each other, and the parents will do anything for their children but discipline them when they have to. My family is precisely like that. Kevin, the main character, is similar to me when I was a child, I was irritating, and the youngest in our family. Even though we had tough times, we were able to forget and move on. Just like the boy in home alone was able to forgive his family for leaving him alone.

The influence of family traditions has affected my life enormously. What I am today and what I will become in the future involves the support and affection of my family. They have made me disciplined, dedicated, and sincere. My family fills sweetness in my life. From childhood, I have taken their advice and learned from their mistakes. They have shown me all aspects of how I should live my life through their experiences, like education and work ethic. I know for a fact that they will always be there for me when I need them for company, comfort, or to laugh and to reminisce about our life.
