What is a “Positions Paper”?
A “positions paper” is a paper in which you give a comprehensive, nuanced overview of a topic, cite credible sources, explain your perspective on a topic, and also challenge yourself to fairly explore a different point of view.
Rather than creating an argumentative essay, a positions paper will contextualize your position using a developmental framework (ex. bioecological systems theory, etc.).  You will systematically take the 10,000 foot view and explain why and how you believe your experience and identity contribute to your point of view. What about your view is informed by empirical research? What about your view is informed by your culture? Your lived experiences? The region in which you grew up? Something else?
You will then take this same systematic 10,000 foot view and explore and appreciate anotherperspective other than your own the best you can (perhaps the dominant perspective, a marginalized perspective, or just different in some other way) using the same developmental framework for reference. Your task is not to be reductive and “dismiss” this other perspective, but to seek to understand this perspective and communicate this understanding with complexity and nuance.  This is not a paper that is meant to argue, but rather better understand. You may very well believe that this other perspective is ill-informed and/or harmful, or based on some subjective personal identity factor, for instance, a religious belief.  Even so, your job is to unpack these things and understand a different point of view as you best can.  What about their view is informed by empirical research? What about their view is informed by their culture? Their lived experiences? The region in which they grew up? Something else? Think ecological systems theory.
You will conclude the paper with any learning that you gained from this course that is relevant. What will you take forward with you? This can be regarding the topic OR about how you are going to go forward as a critical thinker in general in ways that relate to the paper, etc.

CREATE A RESOURCE BROCHURE
Introduction:
As educators or other early childhood specialists, we need to be aware of the families we serve and the needs they may have.  As this class has demonstrated, families often need support and resources beyond what we can provide.  Therefore, we need to become familiar with other outreach programs in our community and be able to provide appropriate referrals and contact information when needed.  For this activity, you will be researching what resources are available in our area to create a brochure you can provide to families in need.
Instructions:
1. Research your local community to help you with this assignment.
2. Then, I want you to create a very professional looking brochure that provides contact information and services provided for various resources in your community that families may need from time to time.
3. Create the brochure as if it were to be an official and professional document you would display in an office or workplace.  Make it colorful and attractive with relevant photos and visual enhancements.
4. Make sure you address different types of services from emergency sheltering for domestic violence victims to Part C providers for early intervention.  You can list food banks, counseling services, whatever you feel may be beneficial to the families you serve at any given time.
**Make sure you are proofreading your document thoroughly before submitting.  Writing should be at a college level, free from errors such as grammar, spelling and punctuation.

you agree with this statement or not? Why? So, why do we refer to “child poverty”
and not “family poverty”? Please argue and defend your argument.
2. If you were a politician and a proposal was before parliament that aimed to make
divorce harder to obtain, how would you vote on this issue? Why? How would you
convince others to support your views? Use an argument.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: Justice for Children Midterm July 9, 2024- to be submitted both questions as Essay 1 and Essay 2 on one document either word doc or PDF.
Both questions should be completed in an essay format: therefore, there should be an introduction- with an evident thesis statement within the intro; the body of your paper; and a conclusion. (Each answer is a long answer in an essay format)
Your paper should be based on the textbook aided by lecture notes and tutorial discussions. Outside sources are NOT permitted. Please use APA references and remember to cite any concepts, readings, or information in general that comes from our course textbook; thus, when you are using your textbook, be sure to provide an intext citation for example (Albanese + year). This would be adequate, no need for page number or any additional information.
2 Each of your essays should be between 750 to 1000 words, double spaced, Time new Romans, Font 12 . This means your midterm paper should be max 2000 words in total for both questions. Make sure your thesis statement is underlined or in bold.
In marking your midterms, your TAs will be looking to see how you defend your thesis statement by using course content, and critical analysis and engagement with course material– consequently, simply reiterating what the book says without critically examining the content is inadequate. Your TA will additionally be looking to see if your paper has good flow; academic tone used throughout; proper grammar and punctuation; and whether you cite properly. Just use course content and reference our book (Children in Canada Today).

reflection that will be turned in via Canvas. The link to the film is posted in Canvas as well.
-This assignment has multiple parts that must be answered in complete sentences, with the
question embedded in the answer. Do not copy and paste the questions into the assignment.
-Each question should be numbered and will only be able to be answered as we move through
several lectures and readings in the class. Therefore, it is advised that you complete this
assignment throughout the next couple weeks.
-The full assignment should be in APA style (i.e., 12 pt. font, include a cover page, reference
page, and be double spaced, with in-text citation). APA Edition 6 or 7 is fine.
-In total, this assignment should not exceed 3-4 pages of text (not including the cover and
reference page).
-Do NOT use Grammarly to rewrite or edit your work; all writing must be original.

Analyze two of the situations below and explain how the principle from Section IV of the Code, “conduct ourselves honestly and with integrity,” would guide your actions in each scenario. Use specific principles from the above documents to support your responses:
A fellow student offers you their completed assignment as a “study guide” for your work.
You must complete a research project and consider falsifying data to meet the deadline.
A classmate asks you to collaborate on an assignment meant to be completed individually.
You find a source that perfectly supports your thesis but do not feel like taking the time to acknowledge it in your work, or you want to make it seem like the words or ideas were your own.
You are retaking a course that you previously failed and want to resubmit a paper you wrote for the previous course..

Part 2: Early Childhood Educator Interview and Reflection (See Appendix B for Questions)
Interview Preparation
Imagine an interview with a teacher, director, or family support person from the childcare program in which the family has a child enrolled.
Review  the practitioner interview questions found in Appendix B (attached below).  You will be typing up the practitioner’s responses
Be sure to let the practitioner know that you are completing this interview as a course assignment, and that the purpose of the assignment is to identify family engagement policies and practices within early childhood programs.
Ensure the practitioner that this interview is for educational purposes only and is completely confidential: names will be replaced with initials and any other identifying information will be removed.
Let the questions guide your interview but encourage the practitioner to share anything about their program that they feel is pertinent, even if it is not specifically mentioned in the interview questions.
If the practitioner provides minimal information, follow-up the original question with more open-ended prompts, such as “Tell me more about that,” or “If you don’t have this in place, what would you like to do?”
Post Interview Reflection: Reflect on what you have learned from this interview.  Answer each of the questions below. Be sure to explain both the strengths and the challenges.  Use quotations from your interview to support your statements.
What do you see as this educator’s strengths and areas for growth in terms of family engagement?
What did you see as this educator’s strengths in terms of communication and collaboration?
Describe this educator’s family engagement strategies.
Based on the interview, describe this educator’s responsiveness in terms of cultural, linguistic and ability diversity.
What practices does this educator use to gain information about children via families, and how is this information used within the program?

International adoptees often arrive in their new homes with a variety of developmental delays and physiological problems. For many, these early challenges result in physical growth and development issues that continue into or manifest in adolescence.
In this paper, you will analyze the potential causes of these problems and identify actions that may help adolescents with these histories catch up in their physical development.
In your paper, address the following areas:
Identify two biological and environmental issues that interact in ways that may explain international adoptees’ physical growth problems.
Explain the ways in which the interaction between the issues you’ve identified explains adoptees’ unique challenges.
Explain what can be done to help adolescents facing these issues.
In answering these questions, be sure to support your ideas with research evidence from scholarly sources.
Submit your assignment here. Make sure you’ve included all the required elements by reviewing the guidelines and rubric.
As part of this course, you must write short papers on different topics pertaining to adolescent development. While the topics vary, your papers, at minimum, should include the following components:
Answer the question or address the issue(s) described in the instructions.
Include your perspective, when applicable, and share your opinion or explain your rationale for your position.
Follow word count guidelines. Include references and citations for material presented that are not your own original work. You can use first person to indicate your opinion (I, my, etc.) in lieu of listing yourself as a source.
Short paper assignments must follow these formatting guidelines: double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and discipline-appropriate citations. Page length requirement: 1–2 pages.

the person i am going to research is Lev Vygotsky. I want to research him because of his theory “peer interactions are essential for cognitive and social development. Structure learning activities so children have opportunities to engage, share, and learn from each other if you want to amplify their learning experiences.”
I like that theory how children learn , social and learn along the way.
