Choose a film that contains a weather phenomenon.
Watch the movie!
Choose a weather phenomenon to research (if there is more than one in the film).
Use books, news articles, textbooks, and scholarly articles to learn more about the science behind this phenomenon (minimum of three references). Please DO NOT cite Wikipedia pages, though they may be a good start to steer you toward more appropriate references.
Write a 500-700 (or more) word analysis addressing: How was this film related to weather? How was weather used to move the story forward?
What is the science behind the phenomenon you chose to research?
How well or poorly did the film depict the reality of this phenomenon?
At the end of the paper make sure you include your references (minimum of three) cited in a consistent style.
Possible Films for reference (Into the Storm; 2014; Directed by Steven Quale) (The Day After Tomorrow; 2004; Directed by Roland Emmerich) (The Perfect Storm; 2000; Directed by Wolfgang Peterson) (Twister; 1996; Directed by Jan de Bront

Prompt: Now that you have broken down the components present in the eco-system that supports your environmental phenomena, consider the solutions that you have stumbled upon as you did your research. What, in your estimation, would be the most accessible “solution” or what would be the most effective “solution” to the the problem.
Keep in mind, solutions to environmental issues are not a “fix” – rather, they are a way of dialing back the impact that either is happening or that has happened. You can either support a solution that addresses the environmental phenomena directly, or you can support a solution that addresses one component of the eco-system, which is driving the environmental phenomena.
Note: I am not asking you to write this essay, just to present a proposal along with one source that helps explain the value of this “solution”.

Read the articles by Schnaiberg and Gould https://sandiego.ares.atlas-sys.com/ares/ares.dll, and Raymond https://truthout.org/articles/humans-arent-inherently-destroying-the-planet-capitalism-is/ , and watch the video, What is Sustainability? https://youtu.be/zx04Kl8y4dE In their article, Schnaiberg and Gould introduce the concept of the Treadmill of Production, a sociological theory aimed at revealing the unsustainable impacts of contemporary capitalism. In their foundational piece, Schnaiberg and Gould examine the impact of social structural forces (in this case, the capitalist economic system) on natural resource depletion and the acceleration of environmental hazards.
Create a digital storytelling post on Omprakash MESH EdGE that includes the following as a single entry:
A detailed graphic diagram (either using the tools in Omprakash or by uploading a single slide) of the treadmill of production theory making sure to include the following elements: the two primary processes at the heart of the treadmill of production, the roles of technology and government in sustaining the treadmill, the impacts of the treadmill on the natural world and on people, and population growth as an explanatory factor in ecological decline.
A narrative that briefly describes the treadmill of production as depicted in your model and then applies key elements of the treadmill theory to your MESH project (or to an aspect of it). For this narrative, please use best practices of digital storytelling to bring this to life (e.g. use images, videos, and/or links to other sources throughout). This entire entry should be the equivalent of several pages long (around 250 to 500 words) and is due by Module Day 7.

Questions-
1) What are some of the social/political ramifications surrounding mining these minerals?
2) In your own words, what do you think Robert Sack is saying here?
Focus on the big picture as well as mineral mining in Africa.
3) Even though you live in the United States, how are you personally connected to the mining of minerals on the continent of Africa?
4) Should companies be required to inform consumers where and how they got the resources to build their products? Why or Why not, Explain.
5) If you found out that a company you like was funding dirty mining operations would you continue to buy from them?
Quote from geographer/philosopher Robert Sack (1992) regarding our connectivity to the global world market.
“Whether liberating or alienating, we are still interdependent, and in a world of strangers, it is they on whom we must rely. I trust the skill of people around the world when I buy my clothes, drive my car, and eat my food. I trust engineers, contractors, and inspectors when I cross a bridge, ride an elevator, or fly in an airplane. I trust I will receive fair treatment by such strangers as librarians, ambulance drivers, nurses, doctors, policemen or firemen.
They are there to serve strangers. Our territorial segmentation makes us strangers and our global integration makes us depend on and trust strangers often more than family and friends. We know we are linked globally because we have constructed communication, transportation, and technology links to tie us all together.
These networks empower us–our actions go far beyond the local to transform nature and culture virtually anywhere… These networks are so complex and shifting that we are rarely able to trace the extent and consequences of our actions.”
