Final Report (25%)
Please read the following instructions completely:
Rationale: The purpose of the Final Report is to analyze a specific complex social problem and
its connection to industry using a systems thinking approach. The purpose of the report is not
to solve the problem. You present a problem followed by a possible solution or a series of
suggestions aimed at improving something.
Format: How you design and structure your report is up to you – it depends on the topic you
have chosen and the information you have. However, the report should be organized into clear,
logical sections, with a clear heading for each section. All the information in the report that comes
from research must be fully paraphrased, cited in text and as a reference at the end of the report.
Description
You will be working on a topic you chose in Week 8 based on the list of suggested topics.
You will make sure you have a visible and well-organized problem-solution structure. You
should identify a specific problem at the workplace of your choice and offer a realistic, well-
argued, and detailed solution to the problem.
Remember to analyze your audience and connect with them well and give them a strong call-to-
action at the end.
Make sure the report follows this model: Front Matter – Body – Back Matter
Front Matter (15 points):
1. Title Page
2. Executive Summary
3. Table of Contents
Body (60 points):
Make sure to include relevant infographics in your report.
1. Introduction: Purpose/Scope/Sources & Methods
2. Body of the Report
3. Findings and Recommendations
Back Matter (10 points):
1. References Page (you must identify and use at least three external sources for your
research. They must be academic sources (Jstor; Pro Quest; project Muse, etc.)
2. Appendix (optional)
Infographics + Grammar & Mechanics (15 points)
Submission Guidelines: The Final Report must be submitted by the deadline using the
Assignment Tool on Blackboard. The SafeAssign tool will check your report for evidence of
plagiarism, so be sure to check the SafeAssign report before you submit your final copy of the
report. You will have two attempts to submit your report. Only the final attempt will be graded.
Report Instructions
The report should be approximately 1200-1500 words in length and include the following
components (much of this will come from the Project Portfolio tasks you have already
completed):
1. A title page and table of contents.
2. An introduction which outlines the purpose of the report (to analyze a specific complex
social problem and its connection to the industry in which you will work). (PP 2) It should
also include the scope of the report as well as the sources and methods used.
3. A research component which addresses specific research questions related to your
topic. (CP Task 11.1)
4. A discussion on the stakeholders involved in the problem and their roles. Prioritize the
stakeholders.
5. A discussion on how using the links and nodes model can help us look at the problem
from an interconnected point of view. This should include a links and nodes diagram
and a few paragraphs explaining it. You may want to use only ONE of these models. It is
fine, but make sure to provide a rationale for your choice.
6. A discussion on how the iceberg model can help us look at the different levels involved
in the problem (events, patterns, underlying structures, mental models). This should
include an iceberg model diagram and a few paragraphs explaining it.
7. An overall discussion on how systems thinking can help us analyze and evaluate the
problem from a holistic, interconnected point of view. How can systems thinking help us
become better problem solvers?
8. A list of at least three credible references. Two of them must be from Humber Library.
Any evidence of plagiarism will result in a grade of zero.
can you make infographics and nodes and connections for the the report as requested in the original report outline

You’ve read several stories from The Violence Almanac in this last unit. For you

You’ve read several stories from The Violence Almanac in this last unit. For your research, I ask you to focus on characters from the text, a theme connected to those characters, and the violence in their stories.
For example, I might focus on Andrea Yates, James, and Corey’s stepfather (characters), Gender Expectations (theme), cultural violence, and systemic violence.
In my research, I will seek if the author’s representation of the character seems accurate.
For example, Miah Jeffa, the author of The Violence Almanac seems sympathetic to Andrea Yates and Jeff and places just as much blame on cultural and systemic violence for the murders they commit.
If this is the perspective I am researching, I will investigate if the violence Yates and Jeff suffered could lead to murderous actions. My research might show that the system isn’t to blame, and it all falls on Andrea and Jeff, or it might prove the author was correct in his representation of the character. It could also prove something in the middle.
This project has 3 parts.
There is a template that will guide you through your research collection. Use the template.
The template, Violence Almanac Research Outline.docx, will guide you through completing the 3 tasks below.
An Introduction to your focus: The introduction will include an introduction of the characters, theme, and types of violence you will focus on, which will later inform your paper’s thesis (the thesis will assert if the author’s representation of a character is plausible based on your research). You won’t be able to form a true thesis until after you have done your research.
The Research:
You will collect at least 3 pieces of research that support/inform your focus
You will create a quote log that represents a connection to a particular piece of research and the character(s) you are focused on.
You will copy at least three quotes from every piece of research. You will connect an excerpt from the research to a quote from the The Violence Almanac. At this point, you will not need any expository writing that explains the connection. You just need a quote from the research that connects the character(s).
Comments from Customer
You have good research here and a you have connected them throughout to “Growl” but your focus is on Corey and you don’t have direct quotes from the story that prove your assumptions about Corey’s life. You need quotations from that story to support and connect your claim to your research. Without them, your scores are dragged down because each paragraph is missing a critical part of your ethos and logos. Please insert quotes from “Footfall” that support your arguments and then I can regrade.
please check again on the boxes stating “quotes from the violence almanic” change to quotes from “football” chapter story on Corey

Description:
For this assignment, you will use MS PowerPoint to present your final argument utilizing one of the three forms covered in the class (Classic/Aristotelian, Toulmin, or Rogerian).
After a catchy title slide, you will present your introduction paragraph on slide 2. This should be the same introduction produced in week 5, but with some tweaking based on instructor feedback.
Then, you will add at least one slide for each of the components of that type of argument. For example, if you choose the Classical argument, you will need at least one slide labeled for each component: Statement of the Background, Position, Proof, and Refutation. Be sure you see the lesson on Refutations. [See attached templates. You are not compelled to use them and if you do, they need jazzing up a bit. However, you should at least compare them to yours before submitting to ensure you have all the parts necessary for success on this assignment.]
You are NOT pasting a paper into the slides. Doing so will cost points for not following directions.
Each slide should have several bullets providing your best points for each component. Those bullets are then explained in the notes as commentary or in the transcript for any dialogue should you choose to narrate the presentation.

It needs to include and counter argument and rebuttal. You only need to address one counterargument. There may be more than one point of opposition for your topic–that is ok! Just choose what you think the most obvious counterargument might be and develop your point around that perspective.
MLA format (see this link for hints and tips regarding MLA)
Typed, double spaced
12-point font, New Times Roman or Arial font type.
Use a minimum of 4 outside sources
Works Cited pages in addition to the 4 full pages. AI disclosure if you used it for any writing support. I would like to see a disclosure included on your Works Cited page.
Develop a clear and concise thesis statement that states your position on the chosen topic.
Give adequate context to help your reader understand the topic and larger conversation.
Support this argument with two to three main points to support your thesis. Organize your arguments logically, providing supporting evidence for each point.
Counterargument and rebuttal:
Address at least one counterargument that exists to your stance on the topic. Refute the counterargument with evidence and persuasive reasoning.
This paper should be written in an essay form
Introduction: Start with a “hook” or attention-grabbing statement, overview the topic, and end with your thesis statement (presentation of your argument)
Context: Include a paragraph where you describe any relevant background information or context about the topic. This might include key historical events, relevant statistics, or important definitions that help readers understand the significance and relevance of the issue you’re addressing in your essay.
Support: Include 2-3 major supporting points, each separated into their own paragraph, that support your argument about your chosen topic. Make connections clear.
Counterarguments: Include at least one paragraph dedicated to identifying a potential counterargument, acknowledging it, then refuting it with evidence that supports your own work.
Conclusion: summarize the main points of your argument and restate your thesis statement. End with a “why it matters” statement or a call to action

Discussion Topic
This week we are learning how to defend an idea – to argue for something.
Arguing to convince is about making your case – pitting your argument against another to persuade others that your perspective has value. For your initial post in this discussion, you will
explore possible thesis statements and counterarguments on your research topic, and
reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of these arguments. In one or two sentences, summarize your research topic, sketching the major problem or issue you intend to focus.
Follow this summary with two (2) possible thesis statements for the argument or your case as an answer to your research question. Write this in the form of an enthymeme*. In total, you will write two (2) enthymemes: one that supports YOUR view, and one that supports an opposing view.
*An enthymeme is a type of argumentative reasoning in which the claim (X) is directly connected to its reasons (Y). In other words, your reasons for making the claim must be relevant to your claim. In this type of thesis statement, the claim (X) is a debatable point, and the reasoning (Y) consists of one or more points that you and your audience will agree upon.
Lastly, reflect on your two (2) possible thesis statements. Comment on all of the following questions:
What do you think are the strengths of each thesis statement you developed? Why?
Which thesis was the hardest to come up with, and which was the easiest? Why?
Which thesis could be supported most effectively in an argument essay? Why?
Which thesis statement would make the most interesting paper to read? What kinds of audiences do you think would be most interested in it? Why?
Which thesis statement would take the most additional research to support? What kinds of information or sources would you need to support it?
Comment on anything else you learned about forming an argument on your topic.

The objective of this project is to apply the concepts learned in this class to a personally relevant or meaningful issue.
You have three options to choose from, but if you have an alternative idea, please submit your proposal accordingly.
(a) Develop a business plan for a for-profit or not-for-profit venture, which aligns with your future aspirations.
(b) Apply strategic management frameworks to analyze your organization.
(c) Study a strategic issue facing/faced by your organization (eg., a merger or acquisition or strategic refocus; digital expansion; adoption of a major organization wide innovation like incorporating AI) .
By design I have not offered much structure at this point. I want this to be a project where you use strategic management tools for a topic that is relevant to you. Once I know what you are interested in, I will provide more direction. So it is essential that you give me a proposal that clearly captures your thoughts.
There are a few criteria to keep in mind when you choose your project:
It should be something you are interested in.
It should be an application of concepts and tools from this class.
It should be doable (think of the time you have and the access you have to data and other resources).
To broaden the consideration of ideas, you should give me 3 potential project ideas. They do not need to be one for each option (eg., you might have three strategic issues you want to explore), just topics that fit this class that you are interested in. I will help you choose the best one. Below are elements that each of three potential projects should cover.
1. Title
2. Goal – what do you want to accomplish at the end of the project?
3. Motivation – why are you interested in this project idea?
4. Brief contextual info – name of the organization, your title or role etc.
5. Plan for doing the project. Include here, what data you need and how do you plan to get the data. This should be as detailed as possible, esp. the issue of data collection (published sources? interviews? surveys? etc.).
The more details you provide, the better assistance I can offer for a successful project. Based on your proposal, I may suggest resources, or suggest that you send me an additional draft
