Unemployment in Egypt: Essay

The problem of employment is a trouble social and economic problem that Egypt faces in the last decades, and it has many consequences. Recently statistics by Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the rate of unemployment among youth has reached 26 percent. This problem has many causes like population and education system. Also, it affects on a bad way on the society. Reclaiming the desert and postponing the privatization program are the perfect solutions for this problem while creating useless jobs was the worst solution in the past.

The first cause of the problem of employment is population. The rate of population is raising day after day while job opportunities can’t keep up with the same proportion, thus a big percentage of people become unemployed. Only 10 percent of Egypt’s area is used for agriculture and living while the other 90 percent is empty, as a result, some areas include a high percentage of people, thus it is hard for the government to save good jobs and good living space. Also, the imbalance between workers’ qualifications and the requirements of the labor market causes aggravate the problem. Regarding the Lodi News website, some areas have more than forty-one thousand people every square km. For a lot of Egyptians, population and employment are part of everyday life. It is therefore easy to recognize that overpopulation increases the unemployment rate.

The second cause is the Egyptian education system, which plays an important role in employment problems. The bookish education, which is presented to students, is responsible for it. For example, topics taught in schools, institutes, or universities that aren’t related to the current level of job requirements. The discrepancy between skills provided by the Egyptian education system and the skills wanted in the labor market is very difficult. Students in the Egyptian education system study subjects from their theoretical part, and mostly the goal is to achieve high marks in any way, even without knowing what is the subject itself. A lot of educated people aren’t able to manage jobs, also a large number of graduates can’t get jobs that are belonged to what they have studied. The graduates of Egyptian colleges are unable to think, create questions, and unable to argue, and they don’t even know how to dialogue, that is, the system of Egyptian education forms a character which unable to create and think.

The problems of employment have a bad effect on the economy, health, and society. A financial loss for unemployed workers and a nasty impact on the productivity of the national gross domestic. Also, the national economy will suffer due to the lower income. What is more that unemployed person mostly his overall tension will increase and that can affect her/his health like depression, diabetes, blood pressure, and mental health such as loss of interest in life, grief, and anxiety. These mental and physical issues lead to the spread of negative attitudes toward her or his family, in addition, if this issue is transmitted to other members of the family, it can lead to quarrels, turmoil, and argument. Also leads to mental tension that creates insecurity and fear.

Another trouble impact of the employment problem is violence and crime. Violence and crime are directly related to unemployment as he is desperately and unintentionally doing unethical things because an unemployed person failed in finding his daily live routine and expenses. In addition, it can lead to reduce social dealing with people that contain family members. What is more, it can lead to disgrace which leads to an increase in the rate of suicide in Egypt.

In the past, governments tried to solve this problem by creating useless jobs to ingest the increasing numbers of workers. For example, hire two employers as cashiers, one to calculate and another one to pack the products, while one person can finish this work. And hiring a person in an elevator to serve people by just clicking on the button to reach the floor wanted. This is not a good solution because it costs the government a lot of money. What is more that it leads to a big financial loss, which leads to the downfall of companies and the economy.

There are a lot of solutions, such as stopping selling companies and postponing the privatization program, helping people to migrate to foreign countries for work, and returning remittances. Another solution is desert reclamation. There will produce enough areas for farming and industry. Desert reclamation can lower the rate of unemployment. Improving labor market function by decreasing desert reclamation or segmentation is Egypt’s most effective unemployment solution.

To conclude, employment is a big issue in Egypt. The main reasons for that are its population and bad level of education. Also, solutions for this problem are to stop selling companies and reclaiming of the desert. Every day the rate of unemployed people is rising and this problem is getting worse, thus the society should unite together to overcome this situation by accepting to live in the desert and working in any available job.
