Negative Effects of Social Media: Thesis Statement

Many people are unaware of how much harm social media can have on your mental state. Often times when people post something on social media they may think that they are just sharing a moment with friends and family, but recent research may indicate that there is deeper reasoning. A study conducted in 2016 by Brigham Young University psychologists found that people who frequently post on social media may be craving validation of what they are doing or even of who they are and a lack of a positive response (likes and comments) may cause a sense of self-loathing in someone (Meredith). Receiving this validation can be just as harmful. Posting a picture and seeing likes and comments flood in causes an addiction to instant validation (Meredith). Social media also opens one up to making comparisons between other people’s lives and their own. This can be harmful because often times a person’s online posts only showcase the highlights of their life, leaving you to compare the best moments of someone else’s life to the entirety of yours (Parnell). Author, Steven Furtick, explained this well by saying “We struggle with insecurity because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” This biased comparison can have a major effect on someone’s self-esteem (Cain). Many people do not know about this side of social media, and yet it is arguably the side of social media that we need to pay the most attention to.

What did you find in your research that supported what you already knew?

Some of the information that I came across in my research only confirmed ideas that I previously had. I knew that, usually, people enjoy acknowledgment. More specifically, people find joy in having their experiences recognized by their peers. This is a major reason why social media exists in the first place. It’s a platform where anyone who wants to can show their friends and family a trip they are on, the clothes they are wearing, or even the food that they are eating. People like sharing experiences with others. Clinical Professor, Russell Bailey, summed this up well stating that “Human beings generally enjoy validation and having their experiences acknowledged by their peers.” Social media also makes it easier to reach people. This can also make it hard to disconnect from stressful situations. Short of just completely ignoring your phone, there is not much you can do to escape from the stresses brought on by everyday life (Cain). Social media also has an effect on your sleep. A study of over 5,000 high school and undergraduate students found that frequent social media use is linked to higher stress and more sleep disturbances (Cain). Some of the reasoning behind why we interact the way that we do on social media is rather self-explanatory, but it is still important that we understand why we may do some of the things that we do.

What did you learn about your topic that you found most interesting?

My research led to me learning some very interesting information. Across America, a mental health crisis is emerging, and recent research indicates that social media use is an underlying factor (Cain). What surprised me was just how drastically social media is affecting our mental health. Brigham Young University psychologists conducted a study of over 1,500 students and concluded that participants who most frequently checked social media throughout the week had over two times the likelihood of depression (Meredith). It is strange to think that simply checking social media can double your likelihood of becoming depressed. Bailey Parnell also presented a concept that seemed strange at first but makes sense now. She stated that likes and comments were a form of “social currency.” This currency is used to denote a value to people’s lives. Thus, people begin to feel self-doubt if a particular picture that they posted did not get as many likes as they thought it would (Parnell). In addition to this, the boom in social media use in recent years has led to people socializing exclusively online. This lack of face-to-face interaction can prevent people from developing emotional resilience and character (Meredith). In other words, a lack of human interaction makes it more difficult for someone to be able to react and adapt to stressful situations that may occur in the real world. I learned a substantial amount of information through research that I previously hadn’t considered.

Who needs to hear about what you’ve learned and why?

Teenagers need to know how much social media is affecting their mental health and how they can reverse this effect. Students in grades 7-12 who spend two or more hours a day on social media experience higher depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts (Parnell). The number of teenage students in America who experience mental health issues is staggering. The University of Kentucky concluded after a study that social media use is linked to higher symptoms of depression. An interview of over 5,000 high school and undergraduate students concluded that 52.7% “felt hopeless”, 67.3% “felt lonely”, 61.9% “felt overwhelming anxiety”, and 39.1% “felt extremely depressed” (Cain). With this many teens suffering from mental health issues, any change that can be made must be done before the problem becomes any more of an issue. Suicidal thoughts are a major problem that many teens with mental health issues have to deal with and if we can reduce this issue by any means then that needs to be done. It is important that teens understand what may be causing their mental health issues so that they may begin to work toward a solution.

How can you apply the TEDx theme of being “Change Agents” to your topic?

Luckily, the negative effects that social media has on us can be prevented and minimized by making simple changes. First, we must understand that entirely quitting social media is an unrealistic expectation and social media itself is not necessarily the issue. In fact, many argue that social media does far more good than harm and there is some merit to this argument. Social media has connected us in ways that we never could have imagined twenty years ago. That being said, changes in regard to how we use social media still need to be made. When posting or sharing something online we should consider what makes us happy and what interests us before we consider what may get the best response or the most likes (Meredith). Another change we need to make is to not focus on the response too much. You shouldn’t allow the number of likes you get to determine what you post. If you truly enjoy something or find it interesting and want to share it then you shouldn’t allow a low number of likes to cause you to doubt yourself and your interests. We should also work on socializing more face-to-face. Developing experience when it comes to social interactions will almost certainly prove useful later in life. When viewed in this light, social media may seem bad or even scary but with some small changes, it can easily go back to being just a fun way for us to socialize, connect with others, and share our experiences.

Thesis Statement about Effects of Social Media on Students

Introduction and Background of the Study

Modern technology might make an enormous impact on the day-to-day life of an individual. Including the birth of social media due to the unique characteristics of it, there is a possibility that most of users are getting obsessed. Hence, social media should be used in a proper manner such as using the capability of social media to enhance their academic performance, communication skill, knowledge, and so on so forth.

According to (Dollarhide,2021), the term social media refers to a computer-based science that allows the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and information via virtual networks and communities. Social media is internet-based and offers customers rapid digital verbal exchange of content, such as non-public information, documents, videos, and photos. Users engage with social media via a computer, tablet, or smartphone by way of web-based software or applications.

Communication can be described as the interplay between people. Conventional communication involves face-to-face interaction, however in social media, the verbal exchange takes place when any individual is responding or giving feedback to others it also occurs when someone starts a conversation with an individual (Othman, Apaudi,& Noah,2016).

Social media nowadays are more connected even before, especially when social media is used most of the time which can lead to poor academic performance. Students According to Loreto (2019), there is a common misconception that digital native students have underdeveloped interpersonal skills compared to students of previous generations due to heavy exposure to social media.

A research study by (R.S Ritongga., & Y. Kiram.,2018), explains that the behavior of the individuals was caused by the difficulty of individuals controlling themselves in playing social media and the lack of individuals in social skills. According to (Taylor, 2020), social media usage has become an aggressive consumer phenomenon considerably changing the nature of what is considered normal interactions.

It might be a great opportunity to hone skills if used properly for academic purposes. Also, social media can be used in communicating with others such as families, relatives, friends, and even strangers. Due to this, some social media users learn how to approach, prolong a topic, make friends, and be formal in communicating. Constantly using their methods in communicating might result in positive outcomes in starting a face-to-face conversation, however, it might also bring negative effects in communicating with other people.

Arjhon Batul stated that due to the evolution of social media, it is a lot simpler and more convenient to use than before. Social media can also be used to specific feelings toward any person. People are involved in how they inform their opinions through the use of social media, commonly for politics, education, or even entertainment.

Social media has ended up being a crucial tool for senior high students to talk with peers, friends, and family. It has also been their outlet for self-expression. Since it has been one of the most helpful units in communicating with others, students utilize these in their daily journeys. Because its usage has been transcending, students presently abuse its use of it. Most of them have a convenient way to open on social media with the free data set on our telephones, which makes it more practicable for social media access. Thus, a student neglects to develop their sphere of common studying, reflecting, and studying due to the fact of limited time in things of larger value. (Lenhart,2015).

It was concluded that social media use positively influenced communication skills and students’ academic performance. This implied that if social media is properly used for academic purposes it will improve the communication skills and academic performance of the learners, and Lastly, self-esteem and self-confidence are negatively affected often by social media, unrealistic expectations that are viewed, this in hand effects Communication skills leaving individuals with negative feelings about themselves and hindering their communication with others, as internally are struggling. (M.Owusu Acheuw and A.G. Larson,2015)

Social media has some damaging effects on communication skills and unfortunately, lasting damaging effects when social media is used in excess or obsessively manner. Another impairment of communication skills caused by the extensive use of social media platforms is the impoverishment of language. (Jacob 2021).

Statement of the problem

The research problem aims to analyze specific aspects of the research problem. The main purpose of this research was to conduct an approximate study on how social media affects the communication skills of students. This research paper investigated how the students respond to their experience in their way of communicating. This implicitly the ways affects individuals react to emotions, social cues, or nonverbal cues.

Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:

    • Can social media positively affect senior high students’ communication skills if used obsessively?
    • What are the common signs that senior high students are getting affected in their communication skills?
    • How does social media affect senior high students’ communication skills?

Significance of the study

The findings of the study would provide intelligible significant insights for the following below

Students, This study will let the students know the effects of social media on their communication skills.

For the school, The outcome of the study will let the school know and be aware of how social media impacts their students in terms of effective communication skills.

For Future researchers, This research study can serve as their future reference in their research study. As well as, other educational purposes.

Conceptual framework

A conceptual framework represents the researcher’s synthesis of the literature on how to explain a phenomenon. It maps out the actions required in the course of the study, given his previous knowledge of other researchers’ points of view and his observations on the subject of research.

The model used in the conceptual framework was input-process-output(IPO). The Input contains the current statement of the problem(SOP). The next box is the process which includes the instrument and method validation. The last part will be the output which contains the result and conclusion of the study.

Theoretical framework

A theoretical framework consists of concepts and, together with their definitions and reference to relevant scholarly literature, existing theory that is used for your particular study

Social Penetration

The theoretical framework underpinning the effects of social media on the individual’s communication skills is the Social Penetration theory(Altman and Taylor,1973).

The Social Penetration theory concept is used to define the development of interpersonal relationships which refers to the interchange technique of behaviors between two or more parties who are in the manner of developing a relationship. Interpersonal intimacy is a slow process. A lasting relationship requires consistency, persistence, and mutual vulnerability via breadth and depth of self-disclosure. The theory is additionally acknowledged as Onion Theory, like onions, personalities have layers from outside (what is different perceived) to the internal core (private), and as the relationship develops, the layers of personalities will peel off individually. The computer-mediated conversation has paced up the intimacy technique due to the fact computers allowed the individual verbal exchange to be extra open than engaged personal characteristics.

This theory shows that relationships between other parties can affect the self-disclosure of an individual.

Most people would probably reveal their own personal information on social media platforms rather than in face-to-face communication due to the level of their accessibility to social media(Ledbetter, Mazer, Degroot, Meyer, Mao, Swafford,2010). Thus different relationships are built through communication and states that being able to communicate with an individual can affect the personalities of one another.

The Hypothesis of the Study

The result of the research shows that senior students who use social media can affect such as communication skills, social cues or nonverbal cues, self-confidence, and self-esteem can negatively affect through social media. And the dependent variables like if the students focus excessively on using social media can affect communication skills

Scope and limitations

This research focuses on finding out the effects of social media on senior high school students’ communication skills. Recent studies and research will be used as a reference in finding out what affects the communication skills of senior students. The study will focus on the senior high school students as a whole not on its individual.

This research will not extend to the advanced factor that affects the communication skills, such as cultural differences and Individual perceptions. However, the positive and negative effects will be covered. It will also show the relation of the factors with one another.

Speech on Negative Effects of Social Media on Teens Mental Health

Social Media is an essential part of modern communication and connection. It allows people to create a sense of belonging and redefine their way of being. Adolescents are the primary users of social media since they are using it at a much greater rate than adults. Social media is a part of teenagers ‘daily routine’ and this makes them very dependent on it. They are constantly having to deal with the pressure of having to be online 24/7. All of this is very emotionally draining on teens and their well-being. So, it should come as no surprise that social media negatively affects teenagers’ mental health in more ways than one. It has been linked with a number of psychological problems such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, jealousy, and even addiction.

Adolescents can easily fall into the trap of comparing themselves to others as they scroll through their feeds and make judgments about how they can possibly measure up. Whether teens are feeling better or worse than their friends, both types of comparisons make people feel bad and are linked to signs of depression. Gleissner 2017 explains that the media is a risk factor for the development of eating disorders and has a major influence on a person’s body dissatisfaction, eating patterns, and poor self-concept. Teenagers also begin to constantly compare themselves to skinny models, and their friends, and begin to feel insecure about their own self-image. This comparison factor in social media does lead to jealousy. Seeing others ‘perfect lives’ on social media can make the teenager very envious because they are not living that picture-perfect life. This is why teens often feel extremely emotionally invested in their social media accounts. They are constantly pressured to have the perfect photos, captions, and videos, making their lives look as amazing as possible. This can bring a lot of anxiety to the teenager. Many teens, especially females, are known to worry a lot about what others might think of them and how their peers will respond. Gordon 2018 says that if you factor in cyberbullying, slut-shaming, sexting, and other mean online behaviors you can see why social media is a very real source of anxiety for many teens.

For many teens, social media is very addictive. The ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO) is something that all teenagers struggle with when using social media. They feel the constant need to go on their smartphones and check. Having an excessive checking habit isn’t very good because it can lead to dangers such as checking phones while crossing the street or even while driving. Studies have also confirmed that teenagers tend to go through some sort of withdrawal when not able to use social media. A study in specific is one from a few years ago which took place at Swansea University, they found that adolescents experienced the psychological symptoms of withdrawal when they couldn’t use social media. ‘We have known for some time that people who are over-dependent on digital devices report feelings of anxiety when they are stopped from using them, but now we can see that these psychological effects are accompanied by actual physiological changes’ (Griffiths, 2018). Adolescents will spend countless hours on social media and they begin to lose sleep, which is valuable. Gordon 2018 explains that ‘consequently, this sleep loss can lead to moodiness, a drop-in grade, and overeating, as well as exacerbate existing problems like depression, anxiety and ADD’ (para 16). A lack of sleep can also damage the immune system and make it more common for teens to get sick.

Thesis about Effects of Social Media on Family Relationships

Introduction

Social media is known as software or websites that are used over the Internet through computers or smartphones to communicate between users and share ideas and information, and Sushil Media provides users with electronic access to their content which may include various forms of information, documents, photos, and videos.

Social media is used worldwide, with more than 3 billion users, with the population of China and India with the largest proportion of users, and it is worth noting that the age group of these users is concentrated in the youth group, with studies according to the Pew Research Center indicating that 90% of young people aged 18-29 use at least one method of social media. (Anderson, Jiang, 2018).

Types of social media sites

Social networking sites are classified as social networking sites, online platforms through which virtual social networks are built that allow people to communicate with each other and form relationships with each other, for example, Facebook and Twitter.

Blogs, online content that specializes in publishing activities, ideas, or beliefs related to a person or entity, can be created free of charge through many websites, such as WordPress and Blogspot.

Content Generating and Sharing Sites, websites where certain content can be created online, and the type of content varies according to the type of site, there are sites that are specialized in creating and publishing images, such as Flicker, while others specialize in creating videos, such as Youtube, and have free content, where anyone can post content on them, or access and view any content without paying any fees.)Richards, Caldwell, Go, 2015).

User Appraisal Sites, which are used as a technical platform to evaluate a particular product or service, are used to take feedback on what is being evaluated, and the user can give an opinion on the product or service as he sees fit, the most famous of these sites, pagalguy, and Mouthshut.

Negative social media impacts on society

The following points illustrate the most important negative effects on society as a result of the misuse of social media sites: reducing direct communication: limiting social media from face-to-face communication between members of the community, where many contacts are made through these means through written conversations via a computer keyboard or mobile phone, which can negatively affect and reduce real communication skills with others. Difficulty communicating feelings: Social media limits the ability to communicate emotionally between members of the community, where it is limited to sending emojis to express sadness or happiness, but these symbols that are used do not necessarily explain the reality of the owner’s feelings, and this affects the relationships between individuals. Laziness: Social media is sometimes a cause of laziness for members of society, as the convenient use of these means to communicate with others is easier than going to them and meeting them in person, for example, creating a kind of lethargy and laziness in the person. (O’Keeffe,,Pearson,. 2011)

The effects of social media on the family

Social networking sites play an important role in the nature of human life as a result of the great technological development and progress witnessed in the current era, where users can interact infinitely with other users, and publish any kind of information, ideas, or images through them, so they greatly affect the nature of social relations and especially the family of their users, and therefore many negatives on the relationship of the individual with his family after being used excessively or incorrectly, while they can be used if used correctly, where It can be a positive tool for improving family relationships) Cornelius, Komito, Bates, 2009(

The result of the misuse of social media sites: the loss of a sense of family security that is important to any individual. Family members do not communicate with each other in the right way, which limits their communication skills and personal relationships. Family and marital disputes sometimes occur as a result of comparisons between a family member’s family life and what he sees on social media, which in turn leads to feelings of resentment and frustration. Children’s tradition of using these sites can affect them and put them at risk of many of the negative effects of these sites in the future. Addiction to the use of social media sites leads to the busyness of family members with their phones, which has a negative impact on the cohesion of family members and their interaction with each other. Children’s feelings of lack of parental support are due to parents using these sites to significantly affect communication with their children.)Kaur, Medury, 2011).

The proper use of social media results in many positives for the family, the most important of which is family reunification, where social media can be used to communicate with family members who are far from each other, which strengthens family relationships between them. Form a source of family ideas and activities that enhance communication between family members and strengthen their relationships with each other. Share beautiful family moments and happy memories, as well as the possibility of sharing locations of places of interest to all family members, such as picnics, restaurants, etc. Help children learn new things, as well as facilitate the exchange of ideas and hone their skills. Giving children freedom of expression, social media encourages them to express their opinions on certain topics. Help children communicate between extended family members and friends.

Features of social networking sites

There are many basic characteristics that distinguish social networking sites and make them distinct from other types of sites, including user-dependent: the main content of these sites is placed by their users. Social media sites contain many virtual groups whose members share common interests. Focuses on developing relationships between users: social networks become more successful as the number of relationships that arise between their users increases.

Conclusion

Social media has been defined as a collection of applications, programs, and websites that allow users to communicate with other people via the World Wide Web, and use these means through computers, or smartphones, and the use of social media has evolved for more than a decade, transforming from a recreational tool into an effective tool that enters the various walks of life for many people around the world, and these tools have become part of politics, society, work, home life, and other areas. Social media has a significant impact on society’s culture, economy, and overall world view, and allows for the presentation and discussion of many community issues, such as health issues, cultural differences, and public relations, where the effects of these media on societies vary between negative and positive.

Persuasive Essay about Technology and Social Connectedness

When I was younger, I used to come home and sink into my phone either watching videos or playing games on my phone. I was so lazy that I did nothing all day but stay inside. I relied on technology to entertain me instead of going outside, reading a book or even hanging out with some friends. Now there were many reasons why I may have been that type of child but the main point I want to discuss is the pros and cons of technology for adolescents. I will also explain how adolescents use technology, how it affects social connectedness, how it affects their health, and how it impacts their literacy. I will then add some of my points of view and compare them to what I have been through when I was an adolescent.

As an adolescent, you learn that having a phone is important not only because your friends may think it’s cool but also because your parents want you to be safe and want to make sure that you or they may be able to contact one another. That is actually one of the main pros of having technology because you can connect with others through phone calls, texts, or social media apps. Another pro is that “technology provides a source of educational entertainment for children” (Regoli, 2018). It is important that adolescents know how to use technology because you have to know how to search for what is safe and what is not. Also, to help you with future endeavors such as doing a paper for school, help you do school online or even get a job. “Exposing children to tech concepts early on prepares them for a future where they can remain productive” and able to handle doing things independently without having to ask (Regoli, 2018). Another pro that I find very important is that technology helps those who have a disability like me. I am a visual person and sometimes need to hear things more than once. So, when I am able to record someone talking or when I need a visual of something that I am learning I may look it up online. Now there are also cons when it comes to technology. As an Optometric Technician working with an Optometrist, eye strain is a common issue that may be due to too much screen time. Staring at a phone, computer or Tv can cause your eyes to hurt that you either tend to tear or feel like your eyes are dry. From experience, there are ways to fix that with glasses or eye drops. Not only does technology strain your eyes but it also is distracting. Some adolescents are so focused on what’s on the internet and what notifications just popped up. It’s like they always need to check or answer back immediately to a text message/notification. This also reduces more social time with friends outside and them to be less active. Another con is that it may cause adolescence to post things they don’t mean to, such as rumors or bullying others. Social media allows adolescence to speak freely about what they may like or post pictures or videos of others or things they have seen. Now since people may speak freely about what they like there are also people that may speak freely about what they don’t like. This can cause others to say mean things about the post you’ve put on social media. Social media is a way to interact with others, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. These apps are what make an adolescent life a bit harder based on the fact that everyone has their own opinion on different subjects. Most adolescents don’t tend to hold back anything they feel and don’t realize what they are saying till they realize the effect it has on that person.

Now that we know what the pros and cons are of technology against adolescence, which is very 50/50 in my opinion. I will now discuss how adolescence uses technology in a more in-depth explanation. During my research, I read that “Adolescents easily identify the technological tools and resources available to them, those that are the most appropriate for any given use, how to assemble and initiate them, and how to manage those technologies to support unique learning and engagement experiences” (Fitton, 2013, page 400). This means that technology is an important resource in an adolescent life because it allows them to learn and engage in new experiences. Between the ages of 10-14, it is important for adolescence to experience new things and to grow from those experiences. This allows them to get new ideas that are connected to what they believe in, as well as their “personal values, morals, ethics, philosophical principles, the validity of religion and spirituality and their own sense of direction in the world” (Fitton, 2013, page 400). All of these ideas come into play when they want to make sure they can be like other children, such as being normal. Adolescence also uses technology to be on top of the most popular social media sites. In Fitton’s Journal article she says that “Their online interaction also helps them to address developmental issues in their lives (Reich et al., 2012) such as identity formation (Subrahmanyam, Smahel, & Greenfield, 2006) and sexuality (Suzuki & Calzo, 2004)” (Fitton, 2013, page 401). Technology has multiple purposes and most of the time cell phone use is higher among girls than it is among boys. Another use for technology is in school because when kids are sharing computers it is found “to increase group interaction and cooperation, rather than social isolation, and to facilitate communication (Heft & Swaminathan, 2002; Orleans & Laney, 2000). Computers ease social interaction, cooperation, social anxiety, friendship formation, and constructive group play (Desjarlais & Willoughby, 2010; Kingery, Erdley, Marshall, The Role of Technology on Young Adolescent Development 401 123 Whitaker, & Reuter, 2010; Wartella & Jennings, 2000)” (Fitton, 2013, page 401). Making sure adolescents maintain relationships with others was also important for them to emerge into society so that they can become on with everyone else as they grow into fine young adults.

As I discussed social media, is a way for adolescence to interact with each other. In the article called “Social Media Use and Social Connectedness in Adolescents: The Positives and the Potential Pitfalls”, they discuss that adolescents are the most enthusiastic users when it comes to social networking. The question is, how does technology affect social connections? The article explains there are two types of adolescence that perceive connections with their peers. There are the ones who put more effort into their schoolwork and learning the material. Then there are adolescents that perceive less sense with their peers and are more likely to be maladaptive, have externalizing behaviors, and have negative emotions in the present and the future. Social connections also are important when it gets to adolescent cognitive representations when it comes to knowing who they are and how they belong in the world. This happens when they have to make real-world decisions such as college and what they want to do when they grow up. When it gets tough, they start to be impacted when entering adulthood. For adolescents “in the era of social media, it is necessary to understand the extent to which these experiences are affected by the digitized world” (Allen, 2014, page 20).

Lastly and most importantly is how technology affects an adolescent’s health. Technology like I said can cause bullying and rumors being spread on social media. It can also “exposes kids to inappropriate content, can provide a platform for poor online behavior, and takes time away from important face-to-face interactions” (Orem, 2017). As well as “In a Pew survey of advanced placement and writing teachers, 77 percent of teachers say the internet and digital search tools have had a mostly positive impact on their students’ research work, while conversely, 87 percent agree that technologies are creating an easily distracted generation with short attention spans” (Orem, 2017). This is really important to know about a child’s health because this is positive information that proves it can impact them in a healthy way. Although it may be easy when it comes to schoolwork it may be difficult when the children that are on a screen 24/7 and for more than 10 hours tend to become depressed or commit suicide. As well as those who spend less time with others, they tend to want to kill one another or harm themselves. Adolescence health is important for our young ones to be the leaders of the future and “there is no question that technology will continue to accelerate faster than our ability to anticipate and deal with the consequences. To harness the good and protect against those unintended consequences that could be harmful to children, leaders, educators, and parents alike need to follow the research, engage in active discussions, and develop policies and practices that allow students room for growth while keeping them safe” (Orem,2017).

In conclusion, the impact of technology on adolescents is 50/50. Technology is easy for them to educate themselves and do online research, connect with others, stay safe, and help those with disabilities that need more visual and hearing accommodations. Some cons about technology are that it can cause eye strain, reduce them from being anti-social, can encourage cyberbullying and rumors, and most importantly it is very distracting. Adolescents should be on their technology for no longer than a couple of hours. Technology can be used in multiple ways. Some ways can be for new experiences, self-belonging, and maintaining relationships. It also impacts their health because it will put children in a depression stage and become less socially active with others, which then leads to depression, anger, anxiety, and suicide. In my opinion, children now are so privileged to have phones, yet they let them consume them like it’s someone on their shoulder telling them to stay on them. As time goes by technology will expose everything and everyone and unfortunately, there won’t be anything that we can do to stop it because of the adolescence that have encouraged it.

Essay on the Disadvantages of Social Media

Social media is a part of our day-to-day life in this day and age. There are many different social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter Instagram, and many more. 3.96 billion people use social media worldwide, but it doesn’t come without its problems.

In my opinion, although social media has its good sides, such as keeping in touch with people, friends, and family, it also has a dark side. There has been so much online trolling and bullying that sadly has sometimes resulted in people committing suicide. I personally, like many others, use Facebook on a daily basis as it allows me to keep in touch with my sister and baby niece who live in Liverpool, but I have to admit that social media has its fair share of downsides. I have seen bullying and also inappropriate content that has been shared around these platforms, which does worry me.

Social media has become a place where everything needs to look and seem perfect, when in fact it’s mostly all for show, or not even real. This puts a massive amount of pressure on today’s young generation, the constant need to look like a famous person or influencer is damaging. It causes a lot of self-image problems, especially with young girls who aspire to be like a current influencer or celebrity. It makes us compare ourselves to others, this can lead to so many problems when it comes to body image and a person’s self-esteem, as well as their perspective of themselves and others. There is also been numerous cases of people posting inappropriate pictures or videos of an ex or someone they know as a way of revenge. It has a significant impact on the victim. It has now been made against the law to do so and is considered to be ‘revenge porn’.

Another downside to social media is the amount of time we spend on it every single day, it is, in my opinion, addictive. There is the fear of missing out (FOMO) that grips us to keep checking social media so there is nothing we feel we’ve missed out on. The average teen spends around 9 hours a day on social media. It can give people an unrealistic view of reality. There have been many studies that suggest long usage of social media increases the risk of anxiety and depression in users. It also suggests it affects our sleeping habits, as many of us are scrolling through social media for hours on end at bedtime, and this leads to many different sleep problems and mood swings.

Today’s users seem to be getting younger, this is a worry as there is a much higher chance of them being bullied, and even groomed on these social media platforms. Inappropriate content is another major concern, not everything on social media can be monitored and it’s a worry what kids could potentially come across. There is also concern about our privacy being breached as social media allows everyone and anyone to access our information, address, workplaces, and places that we have studied.

The majority of us have a phone or tablet where social media is constantly accessible, this can have a significant negative effect on day-to-day life, the constant notifications make it harder to switch off. Many of us use social media as a security blanket; if we are feeling anxious or left out in social situations, then social media is there and makes us feel more secure. Every spare moment we have, we like to spend on social media, which sometimes can lead to an unhealthy obsession. It can lead to distractions at school or work, making it harder to concentrate on studies. Studies have also found that if you reduce your online activity by 30 minutes a day, it reduces a significant amount in depression and anxiety.

Overall, although social media is important because it allows us to be connected all the time, thus maintaining our social contacts, the disadvantages still take precedence due to all the online bullying and trolling and the impact it can have on our daily lives. Hopefully, this will change in the future, and maybe there will be stricter laws when it comes to social media and the online bullying people suffer from on a day-to-day basis.

Essay on the Advantages of Social Media in Education

Social media actually play a meaningful part in education around the world. Social media is a great potency driver to change the way teaching and learning practices in the field of university education recently. More and more students have taken the first steps to use social media to communicate and search for information, share ideas, and learn activities. This essay will argue that social media is usually beneficial for students in the classroom. Firstly, this essay will analyze why universities use social media in the classroom. Secondly, it will describe the positive effects of social media in the classroom for students. Finally, it will demonstrate that social media is a benefit to nursing students in their learning.

Social media has been widely used in the classroom, and it is also seen as a useful distance-learning tool between students and their instructors. Social media allow students to study wherever they want, which means they can study in their garden, on their living room couch, or in the comfort of their own bed. Additionally, by utilizing social media within the classroom, instructors can connect with students and consolidate social media into their lessons, making them more interesting, absorbing, and engaging. As reported by Manca and Ranieri (2016, p.227), social media is able to enhance the quality of teaching, strengthen students’ motivation, and permit students to share educational materials. Because of online attendance, students could study where they feel most comfortable. They can video conference with their classes at the click of a button, enabling students’ motivation at a high level. Additionally, teachers can use Snapchat, Linkedin, and other free online resources to prepare their lessons, share educational materials, and teach online, even though they have never met their students face-to-face before. It will save teachers a great deal of time and energy as long as there has a recording on the online study desk through a digital cloud. Therefore, social media are often viewed as an effective distance learning tool and teaching tool in the classroom among universities.

Current students are interested in using social media as a part of learning because they found it scholastically beneficial. Most students are fond of using social media such as Facebook and Viber since they allow them to access knowledge and broaden their horizons. Students make a conversation with their institutions no matter how much time difference there is, and social media can be a medium approach to collect, explore, and discuss the information. In a nursing context, Price et al. (2018, p.73) explain that social media allow students to pay attention closely to those particular organizations and people concerned about nursing issues.

Indeed, the use of social media to concern national affairs has become increasingly apparent in recent years, particularly in the nursing field. Social media offer a platform for students to keep up-to-date with changes and information relevant to nursing practice. Social media enables students to find whether they work in the same city as their peers in the world if they both use location sharing to share their learning and working experiences. These could provide some mental support to students so that they do not feel alone anymore. Besides, social media can be viewed as a great device for education. All the information they need one requires is just a click away. Students can educate themselves on various nursing issues using social media. This also gives an extra opportunity to meet some new friends on the same forum. Consequently, the use of social media can have a noteworthy effect on students, particularly in higher education, which can broaden their horizons and experience something new.

Social media benefits nursing students in their studying without any qualification. In fact, the use of social media created opportunities for nursing students to strengthen their community spirit. It means social media can be utilized as the bridge between individuals and the organization. Signal et al. (2017, p.159) state that using social media can strengthen the connection among students between personal and group resilience. Indeed, the more social media they use in the field of nursing study, the more self-efficacy, team working, as well as engagement they have. Specifically, nursing students often get team support from the break-up room when they are in trouble with their academic issues. Besides, they discuss the topic together; then, they work together to figure it out because they meet the same challenge. Overall, nursing students do not feel alone anymore. What social media bring to nursing students is they are an essential part of the big family. There is a positive association between nursing students’ use of social media platforms and their personal and group resilience. Social media can reinforce self-efficacy among nursing students, allow them to increase their motivation, and strengthen team spirit.

Ultimately, this essay argues that social media plays an important role in today’s education. There are many benefits of using it in the classroom. Social media is an efficient learning tool through which the quality of academic teaching could be improved at a high level, student motivation and self-efficacy could be strengthened, and to attain a global perspective of social issues, especially for nursing students.

Is Social Media Beneficial or Harmful: Persuasive Essay

Did you know that roughly 45 percent of the world’s population uses social media, with an average of 2 hours and 23 minutes spent per day on social media? Many people do not realize the harmful effects of social media. With all the factors that can happen including cyberbullying, bad reputations, lower self-esteem, less confidence, and eye strain, these factors happen because of social media. Also, people should be doing other important things in life rather than spending 2 hours a day on their phones. I am absolutely convinced that social media is more harmful than beneficial, and in this essay, I want to explain why I think so.

One in three people in 30 countries said they have been a victim of online bullying, with one in five reporting have skipped school due to cyberbullying and violence in a new poll, released by UNICEF. This fact just goes to show that cyberbullying has become such a big problem in today’s society because of social media. Also, this fact shows the number of people that have gone through this rough event. 64 percent of people who have been cyberbullied say it affects their ability to learn and feel safe in school. In a learning environment, people should feel appreciated and safe. For many people cyberbullying, only happens to kids, that is not true, adults have been getting bullied over the Internet too. Some kids and even adults develop drug or alcohol abuse, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, and even social anxiety due to cyberbullying.

Did you ever think that your online reputation could be ruined? Have you ever heard of the name Lindsey Stone? She was involved in a social media scandal that blew up. Stone was visiting Arlington National Cemetery with her work when a colleague took a picture of her raising the middle finger and acting like she was screaming in front of a sign that said ‘Silence and Respect’. Stone thought it would be funny to post that pic on Facebook. Soon after online users were sending her death threats and horrible messages. Her reputation had been ruined because of one pic that she thought was funny and ended up offending many others. With these incidents happing a lot of times over the Internet it just goes to show that you need to be careful of what you post. Another story that happened to someone else where their identity was used to make a fake profile on Facebook. Kerry Harvey, her identity was stolen on social media where thieves used her name to identify her as a prostitute. She then started getting inappropriate messages and pictures. Soon enough she had been unable to go into public or even interact with others because of this horrible incident. This had gone too far damaging her reputation and her confidence.

Have you ever felt like you were not as good as someone else? Maybe was it because of social media? Many people have started to form lower self-esteem and don’t tend to be as confident. When you go on social media, so see many photos of famous actors and models, and some people may start to feel sad or upset because maybe they don’t look as good as them or maybe they don’t get as many likes. There was a study done by the University of Copenhagen where they found out that many people suffer from ‘Facebook envy’ with those who abstained from using the popular site felt happier with their own lives. If others just cut down on the amount of time spent on social media, it can increase your confidence. Another thing is that getting enough sleep is a needed thing in life, but many people have a hard time getting the recommended 8 hours. Looking at Twitter and Facebook before bed could get you feel sad or get anxiety, which prevents you from falling asleep.

As many people do, spending all day on social media is not a good idea for your body’s health. Spending too much time on social media engages hormones in the brain to engage that can lead to lots of different health problems, including but not limited to cancer. Another thing is that spending too much time on social media can result in early death. There have been many studies done and evidence that too much screen time leads to a lot of sitting around, which can lead to lower cardiovascular health. So, maybe instead of spending all that time sitting at home on social media, you should go out and do other important things or even go to the gym. Next, a 2011 study stated that adults who spent at least 4 hours a day looking at a screen were 50 percent more likely to die. Also, they are more likely to experience heart attacks and strokes. Next time you are standing or walking while on social media, take a second look at your posture. Many of us put pressure on our bodies while being in weird positions while being on our phones, doing so can result in bad posture and can end up with lower back problems and shoulder problems. What you can do so this does not happen to you is try doing stretches every so often if you decide to be on your phone while walking or standing. Another thing is that looking at social media too much can put a strain on your eyes and can experience vision problems. There is a condition known as ‘computer vision syndrome’ that describes the vision effect of life in the computerized modern world. The many symptoms of CVS include dry, itchy eyes, blurred vision, eye strain, and headaches. There are many ways to decrease these symptoms of CVS. Try and reduce the glare or contrast of your screen.

Ever since social media came out, everyone thought it would be a great way to talk with new people and socialize. Well, it turns out that social media has stopped people from having face-to-face conversations, and now it’s over the phone. A study by Pritta Chasombat found that people are more likely to disclose more personal information on social media than they would because the level of control is higher. With all the impacts of social media on interpersonal relations, the main one is alienation. Social alienation is a high degree of isolation and distance among people. Since nowadays everyone is spending most of their time in virtual life, they often invest less energy. There is a weaker social tie and less ability to interact and engage oneself.

The counterargument to social media is that it can be useful in many ways, but the harmful things out way the benefits. If you have family members that live in different states that you don’t see that much, it is a great way to share photos and videos. Also, social media allows people to talk to new people and share their thoughts. Also, social media builds communities and helps businesses grow and spread the news. Another thing is companies can spy on their competition through social media and find out their popularity. These were some reasons why social media can be beneficial.

In conclusion, these were many facts that supported my opinion of why social media is more harmful than beneficial. From cyberbullying to reputations being destroyed, decreased self-esteem, confidence, and physically how social media can harm you.

Essay on the Effects of Social Media on Education in 500 Words

In recent times, social media has taken an incredibly gigantic position. Scientists are becoming more and more concerned about its impact on various spheres of life of the modern generation, especially on young people. Many studies have been conducted to determine whether social media influence the education of young people and whether this impact is positive or negative. In this essay, I will analyze the impact of online media on the framework of two specific research articles and possible implications also will be raised.

To observe how social media can assist college students, I will draw on a research article titled ‘The Impact of Social Media on Student Academic Life in Higher Education’. This article was distributed in 2016 by Raymond Owusu Boateng and Afua Amankwaa. The researchers analyze that students invest significantly more time via online media for no particular reason. The scientist collected some data about reasons for using social media. The most popular answer among students is that they spend time because they need to socialize and refresh their thoughts after the day. However, statistics confirmed that they also use social media to connect with their teachers, get feed on schedules, and receive and send information to their classmates. This review showed that social media has plenty of possibilities for understudies in education. The analysis of this article expresses that social media has supported and enhanced students’ academic life.

Another article named ‘The Impact of Social Media on the Academic Development of School Students’ was distributed in 2015 by Tarek A. El-Badawy and Yasmin Hashem. The authors examine the advantages of web-based media on pupils’ education. The article analyzes the aftereffects of the overview done in Egypt and some writing audits. Those answers genuinely show that 55% of teachers consider that it influences face-to-face communique skills, necessary wondering skills, and even writing skills. For example, youngsters use slang words and rather speak in front of screens than in public. However, survey respondents answered that they use the Internet to study, find answers, and do better at school. Another survey about how much time they spend on social media confirmed that they found a way to manipulate their time and do their school works on time. These reviews show that children realize the best way to utilize web-based media for extraordinary purposes. Kids learned how to manage to find time for studies and achieve good grades, so there is no impact on school student’s academic life.

In the wake of investigating these two research articles, social media does not affect school understudies’ educational performance in any way. Social media have taught young adults to manipulate their time. It also helps students in higher education search for information, as well as connect with classmates.

Summing up, in my essay, I tested the issue of the impact of social media on education within the framework of the analyzed articles. From my point of view, dissecting the foundation of the respondents is truly necessary for setting up the outcomes of web-based media.

Cause and Effect Essay on Social Media

Introduction

Social media websites are one of the most popular ways for people to connect with friends and family. Many People spend a huge amount of time on social media sites which give businesses the opportunity to interact with the social media users Businesses try to encourage users to visit their business website and buy product from them. Social media is shared and created content that allows the users to make and share content with other users on the social network.

Social media has been around for a long time but not as you think, the first step toward the evolution of social media was in 1844 by Samuel Morse who sent a telegraph from Washington to Baltimore. Some people say this was the first ever resemblance to social media today but in 1969 the military attempted to make social media the ARPAN (Advanced Research Agency Network). They did this to connect universities on a proto internet. This worked well but only transmitted two letters. In addition to this from 1997 to 2001 which was the start of the social media sites. Six Degrees had over 1 million members who were able to create profiles and friends, in 2002 Friendster which was the first social media site that was created and launched by Peter Chin, Jonathan Abrams, and Dave Lee within a year they rejected Google which offered $30 million. In 2003 LinkedIn gave users a place to post their resumes and private message people with business ideas. This was the start of a global social media platform with Facebook in 2004 and YouTube in 2005.

Business

Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms for businesses to use to sell and influence others, as it is known from its users the SEO which stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is the process of improving your site to increase its visibility for relevant searches. Facebook has many potential benefits for the average business to help to increase the visibility for users to see them.

Facebook

As many people know Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world today with 79% of US adults using it. This shows the power that Facebook has over people, some people will say that Facebook is controversial as there a positive and negative effects of using its platform.

Background Information

Facebook is a social media platform that is available in 111 languages around the world. This makes Facebook a worldwide service with people all over the world logging in to use it. Facebook was launched on 4th February 2004 (which will be 17 years old next month). Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms today with over 2 billion monthly active users, it was originally made by Mark Zuckerberg to build an ordered list of Harvard students to connect with one another. Facebook became popular in Harvard and Mark Zuckerberg thought this would make a great opportunity for the public to join the social media platform worldwide.

Negatives

As of last year, Facebook has been fined 5 billion dollars as privacy and data security were not protected. This is because Facebook has been sending personal data to third parties to sell Facebook users’ data. This is a major effect that Facebook used to make money from their users, as Facebook has a whopping 2 billion unique users every month. This data security should be an important part of the user’s safety. Therefore, the FTC fined Facebook the largest fine ever worldwide.

Positive

Facebook’s portfolio will increase its business with more customers buying from other countries which will help them increase its reach to other parts of the world and help make shipping international. I believe that Facebook may be one of the only social media platforms that most age groups go onto. This will attract people and businesses to buy and sell their products.

Facebook has thousands of small and large businesses from selling clothes to dating websites. Facebook has nearly everything on its network, to know if you are selling on the right media network, users can search up the social media demographics. This is the breakdown of the users that come onto your site or on the social media platform, below shows the demographics of Facebook in 2020.

As many people would already know Facebook is dominated by 30-49-year-olds, but you may not know that 79% of 18-29 and 30-49-year-olds are on Facebook every month. 51% of 13-17-year-olds are on Facebook. This means that Facebook is not the best platform to interest 13-17-year-olds to buy your products. This can also be added to the 65 as only 46% are on Facebook this portrays the effect that more middle-aged people use Facebook than younger and older people. This is why businesses try to instruct with the 18-49 as most of this age group our on Facebook. Businesses should use Facebook if they are trying to make 25-30-year-olds buy their product. This is important as many potential customers will be interacting with it and will improve the business profits.in the picture above us, .it shows the percentage of each age on Facebook for example 51% of all 13-17-year-olds have a Facebook account. This will be very important for people who are starting a business as they know who to target and who to not.

Many businesses sell many different products. Most of the products will be bought by every gender and person however some of the products may be made or used for a specific gender type. Therefore businesses will look at the percentage of each gender to see if their product will be marketed to this sector. If the social media platform is dominated by a specific gender, for example in Facebook the network is impacted by women with 75% and men with 63% this is why it will be important to make the product more toward women as more of the people seeing it will be women.

Facebook is a global market and social media platform this means that the user can buy products from businesses from different countries and even continents. This will help the business target certain places with certain products, for example, Florida will be targeted with summer and thinner clothes as it is normally hot there but Iceland customers will be more likely to buy warmer products like coats and jumpers. Most Facebook users are based in India with 310 million unique monthly users, the USA is the second with 190 million users.

Most Facebook users are 30-49 years old this tells the business that people will not be in education but in a job this is why knowing the income is important 74% of social media users that use Facebook have an income of $75,000 this tells us that the majority of Facebook users will have a high percentage of excess money that they can spend on buying product from Facebook. This is why businesses may increase the product price on Facebook as most of the users will have higher excess money than someone on a younger user platform like Snapchat.

Instagram

Instagram is a social media platform used to take, edit, and publish visual content for your followers to interact with through likes, comments, and shares. They also have a message center where you can send and receive messages.

Instagram was released in October 2010 and by a matter of a day, it racked up to 25,000 users. by the beginning of the social media platform, the primary focus of the platform was to use the platform to take photographs and post them for others to see. In 2012 Facebook acquired the company for 1 billion dollars in cash and stock. This made Facebook the overall controller of the social media market by buying other platforms that they may compete against.

Negatives

If you’re an Instagram user, you may already know that Instagram is changing rapidly with new features and ways of liking others’ pictures. You may think of new features as being good but more people are complaining and changing platforms because of this change. First, you can only follow 7500 people this can relate to the frequency numbers of unfollowing. However, you can have an unlimited number of followers, seconds is most videos and pictures you post will never be in the explore section. This is important as more visibility will increase likes and followers.

Positives

Instagram has lots of positives about it from chatting with friends and small groups to celebrities’ live streams. Instagram can increase your reach to engage with different people and also people that fit your services. For example, if you get on the explore section you will be more likely to get more followers and then you can branch out to other social media platforms like YouTube and get more audience from other places. This is what you call instafamous. Instagram is helping everyone from a normal everyday person to a world-famous celebrity this is shown with the number of followers they gained, for example, Banksy who is a famous street artist which no one has ever seen but still has over 10.6 million followers. This makes Instagram the place where unique famous people can have millions of followers.

Business

If you are starting a business on social media, I would recommend Instagram for the main purpose of Instagram analytics. This is used to determine a target audience and when you should post. Instagram business account allows you to use hashtags that will boost your reach over the explore section. The Instagram analysis doesn’t just show your posts it also shows the number of people looking at stories. Instagram analysis is basically the demographic of Instagram users on your account from telling you the gender, age, and location of the users that are interested in your content. Business accounts and personal accounts use polls and locations to interact with their followers with meets and greets or questions from polls. Instagram has recently added a swipe-up and shop feature. The swipe-up and bio feature helps businesses add links to their website and shops. This is why most businesses use Instagram to sell their products as it is very easy for people to swipe up to the business website and the shop will recommend items that Instagram suggests from what you have searched for on Instagram.

Demographics is the statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it. Instagram businesses can use age, gender, location, education, and income to find out what the customers and users want and what type of people are buying your product. This is important for the business as they can target a certain percentage of people who are on the site.

One study shows that 13-17 years old have the highest percentage of users on Instagram with 72% however 67% of users that has a social media account between the ages of 18 and 29 use Instagram. This tells the business that most Instagram users are under the age of 30 as 72% of social media users under 17 use Instagram, this shows that Instagram is dominated by millenniums which is opposite to Facebook age demographics. However, 47% of social media users between the ages of 30 and 49 use Instagram. This shows that more middle-aged people are starting to use Instagram. This is shown within the last year’s demographics but on the other hand, 17% of teenagers say that Instagram is the most important social media platform to them.

Location

Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world with over 1 billion unique monthly users. Instagram demographics show that a very high percentage of their users live in America with 140 million monthly users and then second is India with 120 million monthly users. This tells us that most of the people looking at the product will be from one of these countries. This makes the business and brand an international name with people all over the world buying the business products. I think that the location of the person is very important as you can filter that advertisement of each country with certain products for certain parts of the country. This is why the business always looks at the country in which their customers are buying their product.

As many people already know education can relate to the amount of income of one person. This can be shown with 42% of those who have a social media account that uses Instagram and makes more than $75000 using Instagram and 43% of those who have a social media account that uses Instagram have a degree or higher. This shows that people with higher education will have more money than people without education. This can also be shown with 33% of those who have a social media account that uses Instagram have a high school education and 35% of those who have a social media account that uses Instagram make less than $ 30,000. This relates to the ages of the people using Instagram. A business may target people with high education and high income as they will have more excess money but on the other hand, they may not buy clothes as it won’t help them increase their income or knowledge but may be more likely to buy books and stocks of the company.

Snapchat

Snapchat is a messaging app that lets the user send and receive pictures and videos that are called snaps. That will disappear after views unless it is saved. Snapchat also uses filters, lenses, and games to attract new users to its platform

Snapchat was invented in 2011 by Evan Spiegel, Reggie Brown, and Bobby Murphy. Reggie Brown came up with the idea of a social media app that allows photos and videos to disappear from the site after a few seconds. Evan and Reggie approached Bobby Murphy to write the code used to build the app. In July 2011 these students called the app ‘picaboo’ but by September they changed it to the globally recognized name ‘Snapchat’. As Evan and Reggie were junior year at college at the time they stayed at college As for brown settled for 157 million dollars in September 2014. by 2015 Snapchat was reaching 75 million unique monthly users and ads were starting up on the platform by 2018. 99 % of Snapchat’s revenue came from it However it hasn’t been an easy road in 2013 Snapchat was hacked by an anonymous group that revealed all Snapchat user’s personal information.

Snapchat has many positives and negatives Some of the negatives it that videos and pictures are deleted in moments This is bad for parents who monitor their kids as there is no way to get them back but they can take screenshots of the picture sent with the sender knowing. But the main negative of snap chat is the snap maps that allow people to see where you are and where you are not this is very concerning as people know where you live and people can stalk you and know what school and places you are at a certain time also it perfect for burglars as they know if you are home or on holiday. Last but not least is snap streaks this is when two users snap back and forth within 24 hours this can be bad as it makes the user snap everyone that sent them a streak which makes the user pressured to go on the platform daily.

As I have already stated Snapchat has many positive and good experiences over other platforms. One is that Snapchat provides a geofilter which is an area-specific filter that allows you to add designs to each image. Snapchat has recently teamed up with companies that allow users to turn their company logos into filters. Then the user can share the image with friends which helps spread the company’s brand awareness. Second, you can see who’s watching your snaps this will help people to know who is watching. This is good as it allows the creator to know everyone who has seen it and know the people who are hiding in the shadows also this is a big opportunity for Snapchat as more people feel safe on it and Snapchat is the only platform to do this now. Also but not least, Snapchat uses a content limit that allows you to post a story for 24 hours then it will disappear this is important as nothing is saved so it will take up lots of storage however you can save the story if they want to but the creator will know.

Snapchat is not new to the marketing tools. The social media platform allows users to add captions of companies, this gives the company recognition on the platform and allows them to start selling products. An advantage of marketing on Snapchat is they have a direct connection with consumers to create engaging stories to share with its users. Snapchat has more engaging and connecting messaging than any other platform. The story can only be useful for 24 hours so the consumer can be interested in real-time. The other point is that it is an easy way to run contests and giveaways, compared to other social media platforms. The business creates an interest in the user to enter the business website and look through it to get to the giveaway. This helps the business as more people will be on the site to enter the competitions. This will increase sales. My final point is there is a low number of businesses on Snapchat this means you will be likely to be the only business for your field so there is less worrying about other companies taking your customers.

Demographic is one way to help you find and target certain users. Demographics can be the best age to target people for each platform or gender. An example of this may be more girls on Snapchat so you should more likely produce products that will target toward girls’ demographic. Which allows you to pick and give a percentage of people on the social media platform.

As you can see from the picture on the right. There is an equal split of males and females on Snapchat this tells you that 24% of all social media users use Snapchat.
