The Effects of Daydreaming: Analytical Essay

There I sat, trying desperately to not drool in the middle of my daydream. Dare I say the class was but interesting and everyone I could consider was my bed? rather than daydreaming of a hunky man, or perhaps a bright future paved with a golden road of success, I accustomed be dreaming of my bed. it had been a standard college dormitory bed: you never understand what percentage of people actually slept in it, or did something else in it, yet I still find comfort in its lumps and bumps. within the brilliance of my afternoon, laziness I made a choice that daydreaming about my bed wasn’t silly the tiniest amount bit. in the end, I should commemorate my bed with a poem and barely a cartoon drawing of it.

Unfortunately, I had forgotten my notebook so I started to doodle on the prehistoric thing called a desk. Knowing that writing an ode to my wonderful bed on another piece of furniture was loaded with irony, I hesitated to commemorate my bed on this horrible, and unworthy desk. Since I was accustomed be out of paper and out of options I shrugged my shoulders at my hesitations and commenced my ode to my bed. Oh, an endearing friend of mine Soft, sweet, and truly divine. Only I understand your charm stick with me always and I’ll keep you from harm. Okay, so this wasn’t a Shakespearian sonnet, but I found it worthy at the time of this creaky and uncommonly hard, desk. This poem was followed by several crude drawings of my bed. Then I found myself enthralled with the words etched into the wooden canvas before me. Being a university desk, there are the token swear words and brilliantly crafted phrases like “Bobby Joe was here.” The etchings I found of interest weren’t even etched in; they were merely drawn with pencil. What a daring move for the author to form.

Someone could easily transform his verse into something crude. Or his musings could easily be erased from the oaken easel. What a brave artist! In my fascination with the brilliant prose scribbled on my desk I completely forgot about commemorating my bed. My mattress did not seem to merit my precious daydreaming time. Instead, I might prefer to dedicate the remainder of the category period to deciphering these brilliant etchings. Discreetly tilting my desk so that I could observe the poem of interest at some way better angle I suddenly catch the attention of my professor. My professor is additionally someone who is fascinated with hearing himself talk. Therefore, I’m usually guaranteed an honest hour of daydreaming and composing poetry. But today he looked as if he’d actually noticed that there are others within the world, apart from himself. Just my luck, the day I’m truly inspired by something I see at school and my professor feels the need to step off his soapbox and truly notice.

The professor’s darting eyes began to specialize in the heads that appear to be coming up and down in an exceeding chorus of sleepy daydreaming. He tested me as I continued to balance my desk at this perfect angle. rather than saying anything, he merely nodded his head as if he knew exactly what I accustomed be plotting in my head, and continued walking around the room. Now what should I do? Should I continue my attempt at deciphering the scribbles on the desk or should I actually try and hear what the professor was saying? While pondering over these questions I found my eyes gazing at the desk again. it had been as if what was written on this desk was meant just for me. And, if I didn’t observe it at once the message would dissolve into the choice thoughtless scribbles of “Bobby Joe was here.” I couldn’t let such a fate happen, so I swallowed all inhibitions and peered closely at the graffiti. gazing at the glossy-coated desk made me quite dizzy I wasn’t sure if I could last in my mission. Finally, I feel accustomed initiating to deciphering what was written on the desk in pencil. I couldn’t wait to travel searching out if it had been really as profound as I had imagined it to be.

Don’t forget to divert your eyes from the professor. Once you create eye contact the spell is broken and he will appeal to you… What on earth could that mean? I glanced quickly up at my professor only to catch his eye. “Ah, I see one in every one of you continues to be alive!” he said maliciously, “Can you tell those folks who are still awake what Byron meant when he said ‘She walks in beauty, kind of like the night. Of Cloudless climes and starry nights…?” Oh no I had broken the spell! Now I understood what the prophet of the desk had meant. I mumbled some nonsense about an unrequited love, which looked as if it’d satisfy my professor. He looked as if it’d think he had reached his quota of in-class discussion with my comment, so he went on reproval himself, completely self-absorbed. In my desperation to travel searching for the protection of a daydream another time I started to scrawl deep, dark marks on the desk

Dreams Do Come True

They say that nothing worth having comes easy. We all have our own dreams which we want to fulfil in our lifetime. Everybody dreams big and why not? The bigger, the better! Chasing your dreams is a journey in itself. Dreams are the substructure that acts as conduit for a meaningful life. A roller coaster ride which has its ups and down, however, as much as we have our heart in our mouth through and through, it’s all worth it eventually!

The key to achieving dreams is to have faith, and the courage to pursue our dreams. You must give it your all to get closer and closer to that one dream for which you put your entire life at stake!

If you ask me if I believe in dreams coming true, I would say yes! Dreams do come true. The consistency is the key here. To chase your dream, you should be honest to yourself first of all. As it’s honesty that helps you notice self-deception which we use as a smokescreen to cover up our issues. If you are true to yourself and clearheaded, the path towards achieving your dream becomes easier. So, if you have it what it takes to achieve your dream, coupled with luck, a good deal of hard work, there will be hardly anyone in this world who can stop you from achieving what you are seeking.

Although, destiny plays a big role in the whole scenario. There’s a famous saying which I firmly believe in, ‘What’s meant for you will reach you even if it’s beneath two mountains, and what’s not meant for you won’t reach you even if it’s between your two lips’.

I’ll share an incident that occurred in my life, back in the day, I used to be a fat child and always dreamt of a lean body. Although, it wasn’t an easy task to shred all the extra kilos I had gained as a child but the dream of having a lean body kept lingering in my head. I couldn’t study properly and had to take medicines for my mental well-being. Years passed by, what remained static was my weight and my desire for a lean body. I was a teenager now and it was only then my parents consulted a nutritionist for me who I now consider as a blessing in disguise. Thanks to the help of a nutritionist, I was able to maintain a healthy diet with the help of sports, and as a result, I turned from a chubby girl into a slim and fit person. Hence, my dream came true as a result of persistence, courage and the determination and of course my parents’ and nutritionist’s assistance and moral support.

Thus, dreams do come true and I’m a living example of the same. We may fail a couple of times but one should always keep in mind it’s failure by which we become stronger and we thrive harder in making that one dream come true.

Is Optimism Key to Achieving Your Dreams?

Many young people are told to set goals for the following year, usually around the time of New Year’s Eve, or the beginning of a new school year. They are beseeched to try and reach for the sky and told that all their dreams are not impossible, but may be improbable and that they only have to work hard enough to claim for themselves the rewards of success. Moreover, they may claim that optimism is the defining factor between one overcoming adversity and one failing miserably to achieve one’s dreams. However, I believe that optimism is not the key to achieving the dreams one may imagine; rather, it is one of the many factors that contribute to success.

People may say that being optimistic is beneficial regardless of the level of optimism. That is correct, but only to a certain point. Research suggests that being positive helps people both mentally and physically. In fact, one study suggests that optimistic people have less of a risk of heart disease compared to others (Boehm). However, when people start becoming too optimistic, it can have negative implications. According to Merriam-Webster, optimism is defined as “an inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome”. This definition suggests that people who are overly optimistic may believe that their ideas will go exactly as planned. As a result, they are “less inclined to create that plan B for things going wrong” (Bruce). For example, if a person runs a lemonade stand, then suddenly has competition, if he or she relies only on optimism, the individual may not see the urge to make a better product. This will eventually lead to a business not doing as well as its competition. These types of optimists do not create plan Bs because they do not think they will require one, thus showing that possessing too much optimism can be detrimental to fulfilling one’s dreams.

Although optimism can be a useful trait when trying to achieve success, it is not entirely necessary. Instead, the key to opening the doors of success is made up of four main ingredients: hard work, determination, empathy, and creativity. Each of these elements are critical to achieve one’s goals.

Hard work is the power to make things happen. Successful people know that hard work is vital because dreams often take years and even a lifetime to fulfill. Without hard work, one would be very behind, causing unwanted events to occur. There were and still are plenty of people out there who work hard to get good at something. For example, Mozart was not born knowing how to play the piano and how to compose music. He started taking piano lessons with his father from the early age of 4. Not only do musicians work hard, people across all subject matters work diligently, such as the late Kobe Bryant. He practiced three hours before everyone else, even when he had a cast on. As a result, people achieve their dreams by working hard and continuing to work hard throughout the entire process.

Determination is another essential factor because it drives individuals to do hard work and motivates them to fulfill a goal. All successful people experience failure at some point or another during their lives, and they must rely on determination to continue in spite of their setbacks. Without determination, one would have a very hard time trying to reach the dream or goal in mind. When Mozart was composing, he was determined to get a piece done, and he did. Kobe Bryant was determined to be good, to be one of the best, and he succeeded because he was determined to succeed. Likewise, one should be determined to succeed, and then apply hard work to the determination to get the perfect combination to achieve one’s dream.

However, one cannot just have hard work and determination to achieve a goal. The third crucial quality is empathy, which is one of the most precious traits that humankind has ever learned. Having empathy allows one to encompass and love oneself, people, and diverse cultures, which ultimately helps individuals, surrounding people, and societies to improve and grow stronger. Finally, creativity is important because it allows individuals to develop new solutions to both individual and global problems that may arise.

When trying to achieve a dream, individuals should not entirely rely on optimism as the key to unlock the door. Instead, they should rely upon four key factors: hard work, determination, empathy, and creativity. These factors will enable a person to be successful with one’s dreams as well as everyday life in general.

Why Visit Hawaii: Argumentative Essay

Traveling is one of the most educational experiences that a person can go undergo; it literally opens doors to new cultures, new people, and new places. There are hundreds of countries and many beautiful destinations in the world to discover, but the ones I would like to see most are some that I have been infatuated with since I was a child. Traveling with my family has opened my eyes to a plethora of exciting places and new cultures, and because of those experiences, I have fallen in love with traveling. When I was 12, I made my first bucket list that contained the places I would like to visit, in that list I included the island of Hawaii. What is it about Hawaii that beckons tourists, including me?

From its scenic white sandy beaches and lush natural parks the vibrant scenery cannot be beat. The 9.9 million people who travel to Hawaii yearly enjoy the famous Hawaiian luaus and amazing cuisine, which includes poke, fresh fruit, and fish. One thing I would really enjoy in Hawaii, just like many other tourists I think, is scuba diving or surfing, the beautiful ocean filled with coral and exotic fish would be spectacular to marvel over. The weather here is amazing all year round, so there is no wrong time to visit. One of the places I would like to visit in Hawaii would be Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa is the largest volcano on the planet, as well as one of its most active volcanoes.

Hawaii is a vibrant and scenic place with a lot of cool unique environments such as volcanoes and black sand beaches. It is definitely a place worth visiting at least once in your life. Everyone who goes to Hawaii falls in love with this incredible place. I really hope that fate will allow me to realize my dream and see all the beauty of Hawaii with my own eyes.

The world is a vast place to discover, every country has its own unique environment, and every one with its own special traits. Traveling the world allows one to open doors to new cultures, people, and places, all of which have their own ever-lasting effects on you. Those teachings of culture would allow one to be more open-minded and would improve one into a better overall person. Visiting Hawaii would be a dream come true and a great educational experience that I would never forget.

Dream of Generations

I believe that for those of us who are fortunate enough to have grown up with our grandparents – as the backdrop of our childhood – will have developed a cherished relationship with them. For example, for the most part of my life, my imagination and motivation have been significantly inspired by my grandmother. Because of that, I find the detail of ‘braiding hair’ in the poem ‘My Hakka Grandmother’ particularly inspirational as it rekindled my memory. Through my reflection, I’d like to invite you to travel with me, back to the time that I was inspired by my grandmother.

I remember the succession of hectic days preparing for my very first collection for the Vietnam Traditional Fashion Week. The struggling amid a sea of tedium had drained all of my buoyancy, to the point that I almost conceived of myself as a figment of my own imagination. While I was absently scrolling down my screen seeking a beacon of inspiration, I came across a picture of a grandmother braiding the hair of a little girl sitting on her lap. All of a sudden, a tidal wave of childhood memories fiercely washed over me, sweeping over the present and dragging me back to the time when I was about to leave my grandmother, whom I dearly called ‘Ngoai’, to move to the city to begin my study.

I remember the quaint old Cu Lan village where we resided, right beneath the grandiose Langbiang peak – our tribal pride. Our homeland hunkers down in the lap of a crystalline spring, sparkling and murmuring while absorbing the glare from the beaming Liangbiang sun. All the dwellings together resembled a wheel with its rim surrounding the rear cog. The hub of our village’s wheel was a monumental poinciana with its long sinewy roots stretching out like a cluster of lazy snakes sunbathing. Such a tranquil simple life! However, from the day I received the scholarship from the most prestigious high school in the inner city, my life flipped over into a whole new chapter.

At first, I was exhilarated. I imagined myself at the high school, lithely walking in an elegant ao dai – a long, split tunic dress worn over trousers by Vietnamese high-school girls. I had never worn one, but I had found them particularly fascinating since Ngoai always reminded me that ao dai was not only the epitome of the Vietnamese feminine beauty but also the ingrained symbol of the national spirit. Every time she spoke of ao dai, I noticed her deep eyes beaming like glistening stars, but at the same time blended with a slight sadness. Fifteen years prior, Ngoai had been well-known as ‘Golden Hands’ for sewing the best ao dai downtown and there had been no doubt that her biggest dream was to start up her own boutique. But a harsh bitter wind had blown her dream away when my parents split up and abandoned me with her to find their new fortune. And so Ngoai ended up having to choose me over her life’s passion.

When Ngoai found out I had been enrolled into the school, she rushed to the market and brought home a bolt of lily-white chiffon, ready to rediscover her flair. And as I watched, I was impressed. The way her callused hands carefully took measurements of my figure was soft and soothing. The way her scissors effortlessly glided through the fabric, splitting it into two perfectly identical halves of a garment was as if she had never ceased sewing. I realized that fifteen years of putting away her scissors had not prevented her from nurturing and embracing her adoration for ao dai. Intentionally, I tiptoed a few steps towards the table, gently running my fingers along the fabric to sense Grandmother’s feeling. And I was inspired, as if my grandmother’s flame had ignited something in me. That was when I decided to take over her vocation to become an ao dai designer myself.

A few days before leaving, we had a tragedy. That afternoon on my way home from the market, a malevolent blanket of cloud concealed the sky and I had a sense a of foreboding. When I arrived home, I found my grandmother had tripped over a chunk of wood and tumbled down. As I came to her as she laid unconscious on the floor, I was struck dumb. My heart squeezed. My soul was pierced with thousands of arrows. All the way to the hospital, I was on tenterhooks, praying to God for the life of my grandmother.

Eventually, God saved her from that injury, and the relief radiated from me. But a thought flashed through my mind: who would take care of my grandmother when I was away? Who would remind her to put on another overcoat before heading to the market every frosty morning? Who would knead her calves every night? I tossed and turned in bed, finding myself in a divided mind as to what to do – stay with Ngoai or pursue my dream?

Growing up with Ngoai by my side was the best thing I had ever been granted. Fifteen years ago, she could have just let me go with one of my parents, then carried on her dream, but she did not. Ngoai, instead, had sacrificed her whole life to take care of me. Ngoai, instead, had chosen to give and share. I owed Ngoai a big debt that I could never repay, but I knew that I had to try. So that I decided to stay in under Langbiang, in Cu Lan, with Ngoai.

The day before school started, Ngoai brought me a bowl of sweet red bean soup. Since red bean soup is only served at auspicious times for people who were leaving for a new adventure, I contemplated her intention. After fifteen years of living in the same household, we had developed our own language which did not demand many words, as it was just simply reflected on our faces. And Ngoai, with all of her love, affection and sacrifice, was telling me to spread my wings and fly.

“If you really want me to be happy, then follow your dreams. If you want me to be proud of you, please fight for your future. And if you think you owe me anything, then please repay your debt by stepping out of this vicious cycle”, she tenderly explained.

I sobbed. A sense of guilt grew in me. Life was unfair. I had always been receiving, while Ngoai had only been interested in giving. The more I obsessed over that thought, the more powerful the flame that I had taken from Ngoai, urging me to make my dream come true so that at least Ngoai could proud of me, and perhaps herself too.

I remember my first day at my new school, the sun rose crimson, shimmering across the land. That was the first time in all those fifteen years that Ngoai did not braid my hair before school. As I sat in class, marveling at what a wonderful ao dai she had sewn, I looked far beyond to the day when I would be able to tell Ngoai our dream had come true.

The clock ticked midnight. The ticket to my childhood had expired and I was back at my table. All of a sudden, I felt ardently inspired and came up with a theme for my collection: my grandmother, my childhood, and accompanying the ao dai, the models would be braiding hair of each other on the runway. As I sketched, the images of ao dai triggered a strong reconnection to my grandmother. I guessed that I had inherited her passion and was duty-bound to carry it on. Even though the clock will never unwind for us, my grandmother is always a very important part of me.

Personal Narrative Essay on Dreams

Fashion has allowed me to create and craft images of myself, expressing my identity to other people and potentially arousing feelings of curiosity or commonality. For me, fashion has fueled my desire to be different enough to stand out but similar enough to belong to a group that my clothing helps identify. It’s a way of self-expression by fitting into the diverse roles played by each one of us in our lives. It has always been a way for me to accept a positive change which I believe is essential to keep up your life in good spirits. I realized my love for everything fashion, art, and beauty in my earliest years of elementary school.

I just feel such a passion towards fashion and how much it is expressed in our lives every day, even from the smallest, unnoticeable things around us, and it has been so amazing and inspiring to see how a simple change in your wardrobe can dramatically just change the confidence and essence of a woman. I find so much happiness in clothing because of how much thought has been put into that garment along with the craftsmanship and presentation.

I have many reasons for choosing FIDM as a college that I am interested in. Attending a fashion college and following my dreams of working in the fashion industry is all I have dreamed about since I discovered my passion for fashion design. Going through fashion school is extremely scary, to say the least, but I know that I want nothing more than to make my dreams a reality and I know that I can get the knowledge I need by attending FIDM. The complete concept and education behind FIDM is one not like any other, it’s a smaller intimate setting with a large school feel. They really focus on you and what you want to do with your career while helping you every step of the way, and to me that is an absolute plus when I’m interested in a school. Another reason why I love FIDM so much is because of the great opportunities that they offer. They help you find a part-time job, and then it turns into an internship with some of the largest fashion companies. They are so focused on your future just as much as you are; it feels great knowing that I will have a support team behind me in making my dreams come true. I will also be around extremely creative individuals that have the same goals and aspirations as I do.

I have a very clear vision of what my goals are upon graduation from FIDM. There is nothing that I want more than to be a fashion designer for a major fashion brand or be a freelance designer but overall my long-term goal I plan to work on starting my own fashion company even while in school. I want to travel the world meet other designers, and go to fashion week in New York, Paris, and Milan. I want to be the best fashion designer I can possibly be and I know that through FIDM, I can do just that. Other than being an extremely hard worker I also just want to grow as an individual through studying at FIDM and become the person and designer I am meant to be. I want to expand my knowledge of the fashion industry, as well as the major I will be studying and so much more. I want nothing more than success in my life and I believe that I am driven enough and have the dedication to follow my dreams that upon graduation, I will be ready to take the fashion industry head on and have my dream of being a major fashion designer come true.

Other than my extreme love for fashion, I also have a special interest in music and songwriting. I personally love performing and making music which I have been doing so for years. I love being able to connect with an audience and become a storyteller through my music. My hobbies consist of traveling, exercising, socializing, listening to music, reading, studying all things fashion, and creating fashion sketches in my downtime. I am now looking for a more in-depth study of my love for fashion. I want to see a connection between what I am learning in class, my passions, and how to apply them to the real world. I know FIDM can provide this type of critical learning environment. I have never been driven to work a job simply for a paycheck. I need passion in my everyday life. This is why I have not just settled into a career since graduating. I want my energy and enthusiasm to pervade my everyday work. “Do something you love and you will never work a day of your life.” That is my story and I truly live by that phrase. I know FIDM will allow me to put my passion to life and help me reach my aspirations. A year ago, I never would’ve seen myself applying to another school, especially one like FIDM, but my creativity has taken me to apply here, and I can’t fight it.

Essay on My Future Family

All through my life experiencing childhood in Arizona, I generally realized that I needed to be an ASU Sun Devil. Being conceived in Arizona in 2000, my family had consistently been Sun Devil fans and consequently, I grew up being/needing to be a piece of this brilliant wonder. The school experience was something I constantly needed just as my dad was the only one in particular who has had a degree, so early on I realized that school was an absolute necessity. ASU is a standout amongst other business colleges on the planet, also a broadly realized party school; this school just called my name.

There are various reasons why I had taken off to school at ASU, I came to this school for one reason just in especially and that is to further my knowledge by learning business to procure automated revenue and to make a blast/gouge in the market that we use today. Specifically why I picked WP Carey as my school is straightforward and that reason is the grounds that it’s a renowned school wherein numerous businesses will see this on a resume, and it will fly with high hues. For my significance I picked a two-route degree in marketing and financing, this degree will give me the learning of ‘money, advertising, consumer psychology, and their interrelations yet in addition to how to incorporate them in a domain that targets boosting monetary execution just as client esteem'(Kimberly Whitler). I picked this way expressed previously, I need to have a propelled learning of these two significant components to facilitate my achievement in having the option to make automated revenue yet more critically cause a gouge in the market to make another manner by which we get things done. Going further into this I picked Business as my life energy for two reasons: 1. Business is the one theme for an incredible duration that I have constantly had a steady need to find out more and experience more since it is the one subject that has never exhausted me; 2. To pursue my dad’s strides, my dad is the most significant thing to me in this world, he has transformed me into the individual that I am today and I couldn’t think of another approach to say thank you to him enough than following his strides into the business world. I know numerous individuals would state that following his strides is great and everything except even if you didn’t then he would be cheerful regardless; Well to that point I overcome this, On the off chance that it fulfills me just as his who cares it’s a success win and by the day’s end I can return home and state I made two individuals day. In the business world, there are numerous impressions, madly I accept it as a round of shots and an opportunity to play it as a round of restraining infrastructure, which means If an open door emerges you better wager that I’ll be the principal individual there and the last to leave and with that you increase organizing because who knows possibly the individual I’m sitting next composition this may very well be my next colleague in imprinting the market and rolling out the improvement to improve things in the world of what we call life.

While going to ASU there are different objectives, interests, and dreams that I need to accomplish while going to this school. Beginning with objectives, before the end of my four years my primary objective is to have aced information on Stocks, Taxes, and Real-Estate, reasoning for these objectives is it will give me an urgent bounce into the market world as it demonstrates that I have a tremendous general learning of the three greatest components into beginning/counseling an organization. Including the objectives of my degree in marketing and finance will present the themes and understanding those basics will give me that open door that others might not have and give me that lift to a fruitful life. Even though these subjects are very essential and questionable, if I couldn’t deal with something hard/significant at that point how might I have the option to think about myself as a succeeding individual? Striding into my interests, as you most likely would already be able to tell I am a firm admirer of business, yet a couple other of my interests is working with Database as a day-by-day assistant occupation, attempting to facilitate my insight with Microsoft Exceed expectations and Access since I’m not exactly as great at it as I might want to be. To continue into what spurs me is one and one reason only, my family, which means they are all that I have and to baffle them would be implausible because my unparalleled activity is to ensure their upbeat for when I’m more established I will give a similar love and backing as they have given to me to my future family.

Proceeding into my own life one may consider what my fantasies/profession would be. To promote that information my general dream is to make three generations’ worth of cash with the goal that my family further into the future will never need to stress over not having a specific thing, can appreciate life however much as could be expected, and do anything they desire. Because my old folks aren’t the wealthiest, I have had an astounding life and have gotten everything a child could solicit yet there were still issues from things we couldn’t do because of the reality of ‘we can’t manage the cost of it.’ I need to ensure that they never need to hear that adage ever again. My dream career is to get into investment banking and then proceed into the world of commercial real estate. The role of an investment banker is to “help organizations and government substances acquire capital financing. As money-related counselors to their customers, they help to value capital, assign assets, and oversee ventures”(Merriam-Webster Dictionary). As a byproduct of learning this advantage will further my insight as well as assist me as a person in the job of being a commercial real estate agent. It gives me the advantage of comprehending what structures to purchase, and zones of certain businesses to contribute/it’ll give me property affirmation in what regions in which you live with the expense difference among business and occupants to make a keen buy.

To finish up My Sun Devil Story I needed to state a saying that one of my educators expressed that has remained with me through my time in school and has improved me as a human being, ‘The way to progress and the way to disappointment are equivalent, and that achievement isn’t conclusive; disappointment isn’t lethal: It is the mental fortitude to proceed with that counts'(Joe Wolverton II).

If I Was President: Essay

If I were president I would aim to achieve three major things in our society. First, I would change our educational system, the second I would make drastic changes so that everyone has fair and equal treatment in the U.S., third would give ex-cons a fresh start after they served their time, and lastly I want to help clean our oceans and rivers of pollution

The educational system in America is a mess honestly it really is. America does have great schools, colleges, and learning institutions, but the standards they set aren’t good enough as other countries. For example, the U.S. does not fund our schools sufficiently. There are teachers in the U.S. that teach with no books, and no supplies, and the books that they do have are very outdated, most teachers are just teaching our kids their beliefs and opinions. How do we expect our children to be up to date with what’s going on in the world if the teaching materials are not up to date? Sometimes teachers in our public schools are told to use their hard-earned money to buy new textbooks and supplies that cost hundreds of dollars. Why do they do this? I’ll tell you why because some of them believe in having a good education for everyone no matter what.

If I were president, I would make sure that everyone in this country is treated with fairness and equality. The 13th Amendment did abolish slavery, and also the 14th Amendment granted citizenship to everyone born in the United States., but in reality, racism and discrimination are still a huge problem in the U.S. today. It’s not just with black people, it’s with Mexicans, Palestinians, and other races. Discrimination isn’t just a black-and-white problem, it also has to do with gender, credit, age, and origin. Every American deserves the same equal opportunity and is treated with fairness no matter if they are male or female, gay or straight, fat or skinny, and better than black or white. On the piano, you need both black and white keys to play the star-spangled banner.

Lastly, one of the most forgotten problems in the U.S., giving ex-cons a fresh start. One-third of American adults have a criminal record. I was reading an article online from WLBT by Nick Ducote. He stated, “The Mississippi Center for Public Policy reports that Mississippi has the third highest incarceration rate in the United States”.Oklahoma has the second highest incarceration rate with 673 per 100,000 people, and Louisiana has the number one highest incarceration rate with 760 per 100,000 people. In the state of Mississippi State Representative Mark Baker of Brandon is trying to get an act passed called the “Fresh Start Act”. The “Fresh Start Act” shots for helping ex-felons from returning to a life of crime, and trying to help them find jobs to better themselves. Bill. J. Robertson says, “the unemployment rates for the state are on the decline, but people who come out of prison aren’t counted in that number” . Robertson also stated, “The numbers show that in states where occupational licensing barriers are high, people are more likely to return to crime and go back to prison. So the goal of this bill is to decrease recidivism, to decrease the chances that people will return to a life of crime, to help them find a job, so they don’t go back to prison,’ said Robertson.

If I were president I would invest my time into getting the “Fresh Start Act”, it’s a good opportunity for those who are ex-felons looking to turn their life around after serving their time. My other idea was if this were to fail, the U.S. could provide jobs across the U.S. by having ex-cons help clean our oceans. Almost 40% of the lakes in the U.S. are polluted for fishing, aquatic life, or swimming. This is a problem that people just not caring about in today’s society, global warming is getting worse, and natural disasters are getting more and more fatal each year. We should start trying to better our planet rather than make it worse. So by doing this, I think this would also be a good start for ex-cons getting a fresh start, we would pay at least $7.50 – $9.00 an hour and also provide homes for those who don’t have a home to go to. This would probably be one of the hardest things to get passed but I would do everything in my power to get this act passed because everyone deserves a second chance in life.

Where Do I See Myself in 10 Years: Essay

Personal and Professional Goals

As an international student, my ultimate goal for me is to live in the USA within the next 10 years. In order to achieve this goal, I have already broken it into small personal goals and professional goals.

As for my personal goals within the next 10 years period, I have made the plan for the following

  • Completing and obtaining a university degree
  • Find the girl I love and get married (in 5-8 years)
  • Purchasing my very first car (in 3 years)
  • Obtaining American citizenship (in 8 years)
  • Buying a house in America and moving my family to America (in 8-10 years)

These are the personal goals that I have currently in my mind, and they are also acted as guidelines in my life that show me what I should be doing at what time period. Completing the software engineering degree would be the first personal goal that I need to complete. I do not really know how long it would take to obtain American citizenship, so I gave myself a very long period of time to achieve that. As for moving my family to America, I think it is very necessary for my family to spend as much time as possible together. Since I have been studying in America for a couple of years now, I don’t really have many chances to go back to China and visit my family. My parents are just working long hours to support my study here, and I really wish that I can make them enjoy life here with me one day. Having family or the one that I love on my side, can really help me push through the hardship in life which also increases my personal resilience. There were a lot of times that I was having hard times with school and job searching, I was very stressed and depressed because of those. My parents were the ones that encouraged and constantly communicated with me which helped me release the stress.

As for my professional goals, I do not really have many in mind right now. The only career goal that I set for myself is to become a senior software developer in 10 years at the company that I am interested in. Since I really love to program software applications, and it is also my major at the university, I can only see myself being a software developer in the next 10 years. I also think that working for the company that I like is the key to being successful, and the reason is that I would have a lot of motivation to contribute and produce more for the company. The career goal I have, also helps me increase my personal resilience. First of all, I would be in the company for a very long time, so I can obtain a lot of industrial required skills which will come in handy when I am facing challenges. Secondly, it helps me build up my own business network, so I would have someone to ask for help when there is an organizational crisis.

Personally, I believe that personal resilience can be increased by achieving any type of goal because each of the goals was a challenge before getting completed. As long as we constantly set new goals in life, we would be able to be more confident before any challenges.

Deeper Ethical Issues

I believe that there are two major ethical issues that I will be facing in my future life as a professional engineer. The first issue is about not being responsible for the product that we will be creating. The reason, that I think this issue needs to be addressed, is that I have seen a lot of products that caused catastrophic failures. One of the examples that I can think of is the self-driving car. When we are developing a vehicle that can be driven without any human intervention, then we should be very cautious about what kind of situation it is going to run into and whether we have any fail-safe to prevent catastrophic error. Many engineers in the industries do not consider that one line of code could cause a malfunction in the system which might potentially cause harm, instead they rely on the testing team or quality assurance team to measure that for them. This shows how professional engineers are not being responsible for the thing they are creating. At the end of the day, when the issue does come up, a lot of professional engineers will push the blame on each other rather than look for the problem themselves. I think the main reason is that many professional engineers do not get involved with the entire project but rather a small portion of it, the engineers then are not able to realize how big of an impact each individual cause on the final product. The organization should constantly present the product to the teams who are working on it.

Another ethical issue that I might face is revealing the business’s secret to its competitor. I have read the news on how Intel was trying to get project managers and developers from the AMD CPU team to join in by giving them a better offer. The reason behind this was that Intel at that time was also trying to develop a new CPU, and apparently, AMD was also trying to make some progress. This might look like a normal job switching, but it could also involve certain degrees of revealing the business secret to the competitor which is very unethical. The software and skills that were taught and used in the previous company might get revealed to the next company, and they could use the same technique to make improvements in the development which might potentially harm the previous company. Even though a lot of professional engineers have signed the business conduct form at the beginning, it is very hard for an organization to track the information leak at each step of the development. If I have worked in a big company for a very long time and participated in major projects, then I can imagine that there would be a lot of small or middle size companies that want to obtain the knowledge by offering me a better deal. As a professional engineer, I should always act like one and follow the rule at all times.

There are still some other ethical issues that we are facing, but I have addressed two major ones. We should always remember that we have the power to change life as professional engineers, then we should also be responsible and follow the rules!
