Increasing Materialism Increases the Depression in Society

Physical needs and comfort are more considerably than spiritual values in materialism. Materialism is a term of social behavior and interactions by which many materialistic people are unsatisfied and stressful by seeing others having the latest things which are useable in their daily life more the needs. Materialism is just a mind satisfaction of an individual which he or she sees other people having things more than survival. In daily life we see many materialistic people who wants the best of best for example, latest phones, top of the range car etc. Materialistic people are not happy even they get their desired things they want more. Materialistic people are more like to be unsatisfied and depressed with life. Materialistic people are always focusing on others.

In daily life we have seen people give more value to their things than their relations, like a car has more value than a friend for materialistic people.

Materialistic means are used to please oneself and inner satisfaction but materialistic people are unable to do so. They have high priority of making a lot of money more than values and relationships. They always try to maintain their social image in the society. Materialism is are more likely to be comparative, manipulative and selfish to others also have less empathy. Such kinds of behaviors are not appreciated by average person.

Materialism is considered as a risk factor for compulsive consumption. There are two types of materialists: ‘loose’ materialist always spend, spend and spend, whereas ‘tight’ materialist always try to accumulate wealth.

There are many researches taken place on materialism by some of which we get that a negative relationship between materialism and well-being is even stronger for people who are religious. For example, an individual focus on goals for money and others focus on goals just to get fame, popularity and maintain its image.

Materialistic people are found mostly unpleasant, depression, anxiety and many other physical health problems such as headaches, stomachaches. A negative behavior, trait or value for greed is considered as materialism.

People are more likely to attach with material possessions and the belief that these possessions are the basic source of happiness at certain level materialism is considered to be a central place in an individual life. The relation between materialism and wellbeing differed for different societies perhaps majority of relations are negative, when we examine the relationship between materialism and wellbeing, we keep in mind different economic and cultural circumstances, which can influence the meaning of materialism and values toward possession with in a society.

Lastly, I would like to conclude according to the above stated materialism relevant research people who are materialistic could never be satisfied and happy because they are completely blind differentiate their needs and desires. According modern era people are more materialistic day by day, but this leads them to anxiety and depression because they compare themselves with others and find fault in own self.
