1) Read and Brief Stacey v. Com., 396 S.W.3d 787 (Ky.2013). All courts agree that requiring a defendant to appear at trial in identifiable prison clothing violates the fair trial right. Why does the defendant’s compelled appearance in prison clothes have that effect? Should the same result be reached if the witnesses for the defendant, who at the time of trial were incarcerated in prison, were compelled to testify in prison clothes and shackles? Does this have anything to do with the presumption of innocence? If not, what right of the defendant is involved?

Use of force during the last few years has garnered a tremendous amount of attention from the public, the media, and the courts. Force is used as necessary inside correctional institutions. When authorized, staff must use only that amount of force necessary to gain control of the inmate; to protect and ensure the safety of inmates, staff, and others; to prevent serious property damage; and to ensure institution security and good order. There are times, however, when excessive force has been used. Other times, while not used excessively, it is used too often when other means such as verbal de-escalation skills could have been used.
In this assignment, you will take on the role of the Warden of a maximum custody state correctional facility. Your unit’s use of force incidents has dramatically increased over the last year to include a number of inappropriate uses of force. The Director of Corrections has tasked you with developing a one-year strategic plan aimed at reducing the number of uses of force.
Provide a brief overview of the significance of reducing the use of force
Define clear and specific strategic objectives for reducing the use of force within the next year. Ensure that these objectives are in line with the facilities’ mission.
Include methods for staff training, communication, inmate engagement and policy revisions.
Summarize the key points you used to support your analysis and proposals.
This is not a real unit or agency. You are to create those. What is important is your critical thinking skills and supporting your writing with academic references.
Format Requirements
Paper must be double spaced, 11 or 12 pt font and 1” margins all around.
All APA 7th edition format requirements must be followed (cover page, in text citations, reference page).
You must have resources to support your thoughts/opinions/information. Your paper should NOT contain direct quotes, sourced material must be paraphrased.

Instructions
Once you’ve finished reading Through the Glass, you must now apply this story to what you have learned in class in a book review. This paper should be approximately 5-6 pages in length (double-spaced), not including the title or reference pages. Be sure to cite in APA format if you use any direct quotes. Use the following outline/questions below to help guide your writing.
Lastly, please use the template (see attached file below) to structure your paper.
First, briefly discuss your initial thoughts about the book (introduction – 1 paragraph).
Provide an overview/summary of the book (approximately 2-3 pages). Make sure to discuss the timeline of the book and how the story progressed (beginning – middle – end). Highlight major characters and events.
Using your textbook and other course materials, apply terms, concepts, and other info from the course to the story (approximately 2-3 pages). Did you see examples of restorative justice throughout the story? Did you see times where restorative justice practices could/should have been used? If so, what impact would it have had? Using this story, how might have restorative justice helped limit the failures of the CJ system that victims, offenders, and community members encountered? Don’t forget to provide specific examples from both the story and your course materials in your application!
Conclude your paper by briefly discussing what you got out of the book and whether you would recommend it to others (and why or why not).

Jurisdictions provide the courts with authority to make legal decisions or administer justices within a certain area. Often, these jurisdictions are determined based on geographic location, but sometimes there are other factors that go into determining jurisdiction. For example, the United States recognizes that juveniles involved with the criminal justice system have different needs and as such fall under the juvenile justice jurisdiction.
In this assignment, you will explore the juvenile justice system as a separate jurisdiction. Using the Module Two Assignment template, in 50–150 words for each question, explore the juvenile court’s jurisdiction and answer each of the following:
Why does this court exist?
What is the importance of its jurisdictional difference?
What are some of the issues that can arise from this jurisdiction?
Specifically, the following rubric criteria must be addressed:
Explain why this court exists.
Describe the importance of its jurisdictional difference.
Describe some of the issues that can arise from this jurisdiction.
