The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the connection
between theory and practice. Whether it is explicit or not, every successful program and policy in the
criminal justice system is based upon some theory or assumption concerning the nature of human
behavior. At the same time, programs that are not effective tend not to be based on theory or are based on poorly articulated theory or a theory without empirical support.
In order to promote the use of effective programs and discourage the use of ineffective programs, the
National Institute of Justice maintains a database that of programs and their associated evidence/support.
In general, programs are described as “effective,” “promising,” or “no effect,” based on the research that
has been done to evaluate them. This database can be found here:
https://www.crimesolutions.gov/
For this paper, choose a program (not a practice) that is described as “effective” or “promising.” Ideally,
you should choose one that has multiple green or yellow checkmarks (a single checkmark means that only
research from a single study is supporting their effectiveness conclusions). Further, since we are focused
on theories of crime, you should limit your choice to the following topics:
any program from the crime and crime prevention section or any program specific to delinquency prevention (Click the “All Programs and Practices” tab, then filter under the program tab for “Crime and Crime Prevention”).
Once you have selected an effective or promising program, the next step is to describe the program.
What are the programs goals?
And how does the program attempt to accomplish its goals? Who is the target population of the program, or in other words, who is supposed to receive the program?
How long does the program last, and what are the expected outcomes?
Who is in charge of implementing the program?
Once you have explained how the program is designed, and what its expected outcomes are, identify the theory or theories underlying its design. In other words, which theory or theories is the program based on?
Are there elements of the program that do not appear to be based on any theory at all? Do not simply state
that principle X is based on theory Y. You should explain exactly how each principle relates to its
underlying theory… In other words, this paper is about you explaining why we (as a society) do what we
do to lessen crime (and why we think those actions should work).
You should name and link to the program in your paper, and cite any research you reference.
Pro tip: When you click on the program link on the website, you can scroll down the sub-heading
“evidence-base” and “additional resources” to find studies and research that will likely describe the
theoretical foundations of the program, in addition to assessing its effectiveness.
This will likely be 4-5 pages, but you have no set maximum. You may write as much as you like.

Read the section in Chapter 8 entitled, Decision Making during Crisis Events. Then watch this video: Seconds from Disaster: Waco Cult – Season 5 Episode 4. (Note: This video is 45 minutes long. I suggest you take notes during the video. If the link is broken, please search for the title, it is on various other online sources.) Describe your thoughts after reviewing these resources in the form of three paragraphs including the following:List two errors in decision making/leadership, which occurred; use your textbook as a source to identify and then explain these errors.
What would you have done differently?
Who (if anyone) is at fault and to what degree?
Spend some time listening to a live police radio scanner during the week. You can find a web platform for that through Broadcastify or several other websites. There are also apps for that! You may pick any department, but some may be more active than others, and you may need to listen to several to get a feel for what goes on. Often it may be difficult to understand what is happening, but see if you can figure out what is happening. Describe your thoughts after reviewing these resources in the form of one paragraph including the following:What agency did you listen to?
What were some of the calls you heard dispatched?
What were some of the decisions the officer would have to make (how to get to the scene, how many officers to ask for, whether to arrest, why type of investigation, etc.)? While this may not be apparent in the communication, place yourself in the seat as the officer responding and try to consider some of the decisions you may have to face.

Read and analyze pages 388-390 in Ch. 15 “Strategic Crime Analysis: Results and Dissemination”, located in the Topic 7 Topic Materials; these are the guidelines for creating strategic products. Create a strategic product using the data from the Topic 4 assignment on Tire Slashing’s. This report would be utilized by the special crimes unit.
Create the product title, note the nature of the data, state the geography, and the date range analyzed.
Create necessary tables, graphs, and/or maps that illustrate pertinent information.
Analysis and findings: You may use bullets or paragraph form. Utilize problem-solving techniques to produce your analysis. (word count 250-300)
Disclaimers stating the limitations of the data analysis techniques.
Recommendations to solve the problem and areas for future analysis. (250-300 words)
Credits and dates; list the individual(s) who is (are) credited, the product, and the date it was created.
Be sure to cite three to five relevant scholarly sources in support of your content. Use only sources provided in resources, found in the GCU Library, or government websites.

Children continuously adopt new apps and use them to communicate. In the United States, popular messaging apps in 2017 included video messaging apps (FireChat and Marco Polo), Snapchat, Instagram, and even Yubo (Krischer, 2017). Yubo (formerly known as Yellow) has been dubbed “Tinder for children.” Tinder, while a dating app, is primarily known as a “hook up” app, which facilitates connections between people who largely are seeking casual sexual encounters. Like Tinder, with Yubo, children swipe right to connect (or become friends) with another child or left if they do not want to become friends. The app connects children to strangers within their geographic location, facilitates communication with these strangers, and enables the arrangement of in person meetings. Because age verification does not exist on this site, adult predators can create fake profiles, and use the site to contact and ultimately lure children. This practice by online predators is not unique to this app, it is common on most websites, chat rooms, messaging apps, video apps, and social media platforms used by children.
For this assignment, find a popular messaging app in your country.
What are the features of this app?
Who commonly uses the app (i.e., adults, children or both)? For what reasons?
Has this app been used in your country by perpetrators of interpersonal cybercrime? Please justify your response. If you answered yes, please provide a real-life case where this occurred.
In what ways can the app be used to conduct an interpersonal cybercrime a victim?
What, if anything, can be done to prevent the use of the app to commit interpersonal cybercrime?
If you need to explain more the maximum word count is 1,000 words.

The first writing assignment focuses on
the relationship between theory and research. The goal for this assignment is to demonstrate how research is used to support or refute theory.
should use APA style for references and for any citations placed within the text.
The first step is to choose a theory. At this point we have not discussed the full range of theories, so here is a list of possible choices.
• Deterrence
• Rational choice
• Routine activities (either micro or macro level)
• Differential association
• Social learning
• Social structure-social learning
• Containment
• Techniques of neutralization
• Social control/bonding
• Self-control
• Control balance
• General strain theory
• Institutional anomie
• Labelling
• Reintegrative shaming
With theory in hand, the second step is to find three articles which test your chosen theory. These must be articles which present empirical data, operationalize the concepts from the theory, and compare the empirical results to theoretical expectations. You cannot choose articles which summarize large swaths of research (literature reviews), or secondary sources (textbooks, readers, or websites).
Also make sure they are referring to criminological theory as other fields may use similar labels for their ideas (e.g., don’t use a study on nuclear weapon proliferation deterrence or toxic gas containment—these aren’t referring to the deterrence and containment theories you read about).
You cannot use the articles from the text. They must be articles you find on googlescholar or Academic Search Complete. Google Scholar is an excellent resource for this exercise (as a search engine of academic literature).
Step three: Read the articles. Understand the research questions, methods (sample and variables), results, and implications.
Step four: Write. Each paper should have three specific sections. This should end up at least 4-5 pages.
• Explain your chosen theory. Note all concepts, how they are related to one another, and how they are related to crime.
• Summarize each article. What were the research questions? How did they go about
answering the questions? And what were the results?
• Generalize the results to make statements about the empirical validity of the theory. To what extent is the theory supported by the research that you reviewed?

Discussion 15: Bloodstain pattern analysis can be complex or simple. Using the scenario presented, identify how blood found at a crime scene can be used to prove or disprove the reported incident without a full expert analysis of the scene. (The sceniaro is attached below)
Discussion 16: Reconstructing a shooting scene involves a massive amount of information and requires a multitude of skills. What are some of the most important skills and pieces of information needed to reconstruct a shooting incident? How valuable is this information in the courtroom? Defend your opinion with examples.
