Sociological research can be used to provide information to inform communities about human behaviors in their neighborhood. Citizens can then use that information to understand and develop actions to take which could impact the quality of life for the groups who live there. This week’s assignment will give you the opportunity to consider human behavior related to crime and substance use issues in your community from a sociological perspective. Use your knowledge of sociological research to educate families about this kind of human behavior.
Scenario:
Your local community center has started to host orientation classes for groups of parents of middle- and high-school-aged children. These families have recently moved to the area or are looking to relocate and want to know more about your community. You are part of a group of citizens who wants to support these parents by sharing information about local crime and substance use issues so that they can make informed choices for their families. The community center has asked you to prepare an informational guide to share this information with them.
For this assignment:
Choose 1 sociological theory to interpret the connection between substance use issues and crime.
Choose 1 type of software to create a guide with visuals, such as Microsoft Word or Canva.
Develop a 2- to 3-page local guide in the form of a flyer, poster, pamphlet, or newsletter.

Vj- The word deviance is what you do

Please respond to each post with 100 words.
Vj- The word deviance is what you do not follow for a level of acceptance standard, example: someone walking in a public place nude. Norms is something that is usual or typical, example: a person waking up the first thing they do a go to the bathroom to brush teeth, make coffee and watch the news on tv or phone. Values is something that is worth and useful, example my grandmother china has been past down many generations and only use for holidays. A crime is apart of deviance because people are taught right from wrong since childhood but you choose to do the wrong without thinking of the consequences in the end. Social justice is related to crime because when a person or a group act in a way that is not acceptable like breaking the law. From my experience I have a niece that suffers from addiction and stealing and she has stolen so much and from the closes people to her even now years later she is clean people are still skeptical which is sad because seeing how much she changed others can not accept that. I believe instead of building prisons we as a nation she be building more rehabilitation centers especially when someone is suffering from addiction to help solve and sort out what’s going on so when they are ready to be back and live a productive life with no worry.
Ah-Hello Class,
To understand what social deviance we must understand what social norms and social values are. I define social norms as an acceptable way of to behave and act in a society that has set beliefs in values. Social deviance is when a person or group behave or act in a way that is disruptive or unacceptable to the societies norms and values. For example say a social norm in a society is to always say hi because they believe in the value of being friendly, a social deviance could be not saying hi or being really rude to people. My experiences are quite similar to the sociological theories due to everything we all know is due to social norms being taught to us since we came into the world. Crime is related to social deviance, when a person or persons do something against the standard law it is the social justice responsibility to let them know. I sadly have personal experience with the criminal justice system and substance use. It is actually sad because when I was an addict that is what people saw they didn’t see me as a person who needed help, they just wanted to lock me up and throw away the key instead of providing resources and tools to help me get better. I only broke the law because I was really messed up and had no grip on actual reality. That was my first and pretty much only time I have broke the law but they didn’t see that part of it they just called me another statistic and gave me a hard sentence. Some people actually want to get help and not spend there life institutionalized and the criminal justice system should provide more of those resources for any addicts.
