Gender Sports Teams Shouldn’t Exist

We have all heard the saying “boys are stronger than girls”. And because of this commonly known saying, it is engraved in our minds, and daily lives. But is this true? Science has proven that males are naturally stronger than females, even comparing the same weight from males to females, females averagely have less muscle mass than males. But what about the people that are equal to men physically, there are extraordinary females who aspire to make the world equal for every gender. In this world some males and females that are physically equal to each other, who play sports, so why can’t males and females be on the same sports team? This is why gendered sports teams should not exist. First, males and females work best together as a team. Second, in the past decade we as a country have been more accepting of people who do not fit the ‘traditional’ description. And finally, ever since the Olympics started on April 6, 1896 mens sports world records still trump over females records in professional sports. This is why gendered sports teams should be no more.

First of all, males and females work best together as a team. Communicating with the opposite gender doesn’t come naturally, it is a skill many people have to develop over time. But if males and females are separated from a young age, they will have to learn to communicate with each other later in life, is that a well thought out plan? How impossible is it to eliminate all gendered sports teams? On a standard basis most men have higher testosterone levels than women. On a fairness level men would normally beat women at a game of baseball. But what about teamwork and communication? Mental aspects matter just as much as physical aspects. According to Bright Network, communicating with the opposite gender in sports teams generates skills like “teamwork, leadership, time management, competition and sportsmanship, handling pressure, management and responsibility, and commitment”. Even though males and females have different ways of communicating that doesn’t mean it is impossible for males and females to work together on a sports team. According to an article by Virginia Backaitis on the New York Post, “there has been a call to revisit the way women and men work together” many people are saying that shutting the other gender out, does not fix things, but it only makes things worse. A good example of not shutting out the opposite gender comes from an article written by ‘Independent School Parent’, Alleyns School in Dulwich, uses “The combined talents of the team’s boys and girls” this “resulted in victory in the London Cup” While the team still consists of 10 males and 2 females it is still a mixed gender team, they can clearly communicate substantially, given their results.

Second of all, in the past decade we as a country have been more accepting of people who do not fit ‘the traditional’ description. Specificaly transgender people, trangender meaning “relating to, or being a person whose gender identity differs from the sex the person had or was identified as having at birth”. In one case, when a young female feels like a boy but looks like a female, how is the young female supposed to participate in gendered sports teams when appearances still matter more than who you are on the inside. There shouldn’t have to be special exceptions for people who look different. For example, according to Cheryl Radachowsky from the New York Post, she has a son who identifies as a female. Alanna excels at sports, and has led her team to 3 consecutive championships. It is not clear that her team is made out of both males and females. She excels in sports doesn’t mean she gets away with being bullied on a daily basis. Luckily, her school allows males to play against females, so whatever someone identifies as, they can still play sports without being the odd one out. Unfortunately, most schools don’t allow that to happen. Which restricts athletes from participating in team sports.

Finally, ever since the Olympics started on April 6, 1896 mens sports world records still trump over females records in professional sports. Say for example if you search up “Olympic Records” the first link on google is “men’s track and field”. But what if there were no gendered teams, females would push themselves to a safe limit to beat men. It might seem crazy to think of a woman beating a man in professional sports, but we all thought that doing a 900 on a skateboard was crazy, until Tony Hawk was the first male to complete a 900. That’s only because we as humans are closed minded. According to a piece written by Cheryl Radachowsky in the New York Post “Even when mens testerone levels match that of a biological woman, the men’s competitive advantages remained almost fully intact”. It is a well known fact that men can be more competitive than women. According to an article written by Selin Kesebir on the Harvard Business review, “the average woman is less competitive than the average man”. On a competitive scale males beat out females for competitiveness.

To conclude, there are many more reasons why gendered sports teams should no longer exist, that were not covered. But there are also reasons to stay put, given the physical difference between males and females. Although there are both pros and cons to mixed gender teams, these consequences should not prevent the sports community from considering all the factors, since the way a person looks should not restrain them from their success. This is why genders sports should be no more.

There are many different types of team sports including soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, touch football and lots more. Here is why I think team sports are important:

Firstly, sports are known to improve people’s physical health, team sports help because making exercise a regular habit from a young age is a way to make sure that kids grow into a fit and healthy adult. In most team sports, you learn the importance of eating right. Playing sports help develop bone and muscle strength, which is good for getting stronger. It can also help prevent illness or diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, and heart diseases. Sports help to prevent obesity (which is a worldwide problem). Worldwide obesity has tripled since 1975. In 2016, over 340 million kids were obese and over 650 million adults were obese!

The second point I am going to talk about is mental health. Team Sports help with mental health because they make you feel good about who you are. Team sports help against depression and anxiety because they make you feel good. Kids who play sports are more satisfied with life. Sport helps kids feel like they belong to a team.

The third point I will talk about today is learning important life skills. In team sports you learn good life skills like cooperation, respect, commitment, confidence, patience, the ability to make friends and teamwork. For example, in soccer one player can’t save a goal, dribble the ball up the field and score! So, these skills are very important in life and are great to have.

The last point I will talk about is social benefits, playing sport means kids are expected to follow rules and understand that they will be punished for bad behaviour. It will also teach them to take directions from the coach, referees or other adults, like in the classroom they are expected to follow the teacher’s instructions. In soccer the referee expects you to follow the rules but if you don’t do that then you will either be told of, given a yellow card or sent off. In team sports you develop relationships with your team mates and the coach.

So that is why I think that team sports are very important and I hope that you now also understand why. It doesn’t matter if you are a kid or adult you can still think about registering for a team sport now to develop some skills, get healthier, make friends or just to have fun!

Cricket is a sport that is played by millions and loved by billions of people from all corners of the globe. Cricket has been played for centuries with the first international match occurring way back in 1844. From that time it has continued to develop into the vibrant and exciting modern game that is played today.

Cricket is a bat-and-ball sport that involves two teams with 11 players on each side. The aim of the game is to score more runs than the opposition. One player the bowler bowls a hard leather ball at speeds of up to 150 km/h at a player from the opposing team, who then attempts to hit it with a bat in order to score runs.

Cricket is played on an oval-shaped field and in the middle of that field is the pitch which is where most of the action takes place at either end of the pitch. You’ll find these things they’re called wickets, and they’re made up of three wooden stumps that support two bales. The batting team has two batters at a time in play whilst the fielding side has all 11 players on the field. A batter (batsman) scores runs in two ways, one they hit the ball far enough that it crosses the outer boundary of the field. If the ball has bounced, it’s worth four runs, if it clears the boundary on the full, it’s worth six, the maximum number of runs that can be scored from one ball. Runs are also scored through the two batters running the length of the pitch in opposite directions whilst the fielders are retrieving the ball. 1 length of the pitch completed equals one run.

The aim for the fielding side is to restrict the number of runs scored by the batting side whilst trying to get the batsman out. There are 11 different ways a batsman can be out with the most common being bowled. The bowler bowls the ball, the batsman misses it or deflects it by accident, it hits the stumps and the bails come off. Another way is caught, where the batter hits the ball and one of the fielders catches it before it hits the ground. Also, it can be LBW (leg before wicket) when the bowler bowls the ball, the batter misses it and the ball hits them on the leg, in line with the stumps. And run out, when the batter hits the ball and runs but the fielding team retrieves the ball and throws it to the stumps before either batter has reached the other end.

When a batter’s out, they leave the field of play and another teammate replaces them. Once all the batsmen of a team are out, the fielding team then has their turn to bat and attempt to beat the overall score set by the first batting team. Simply, the winner is the team with the most runs after both sides batted.

Volleyball is an international sport invented by William Morgan in 1895. It’s a game composed of 2 teams that face each other on opposite sides with a ball and a net in the middle of the court. It’s a popular sport that includes rules and competition such as in championships and matches or tournaments. It’s available for both males and females and has great value for physical fitness and health.

This sport contains rules and consequences for actions that disobey the rules. For example fouls. There are common fouls that often or usually occur in volleyball. The most common foul is net contraction. Most players accidentally touch the net. This counts as a foul and the other team gets the point or ball. Other common faults or faults include: lifting the ball, blocking a serve, hitting the ball 2 times in a row or after each other, reaching under the net, crossing the line of the court, and when the 3 players in the back get in front of the 3 attackers.

Each foul has a consequence which is usually when the referee gives a point to the other team or the ball. But sometimes actions can lead to strict consequences such as getting a yellow card or red from the referee. Serious violations or injuries can lead to a yellow card which is a warning and a red card which makes the player leave the match. The cards are usually given for misconduct either verbally or physically. For example, verbal abuse can occur in volleyball due to anger over losing. This leads to a penalty which is the yellow card then the red card which causes a side out and benching.

Some people who enjoy volleyball have exercises to improve their skills. These exercises can be done either alone or with a partner. There are some exercises for improving shooting that can be done alone. For example, practicing against a surface is a great practice for shooting. A person can shoot the ball against a wall and the power or reflection will determine how powerful his shot was. Another exercise for shooting is shooting the ball at a specific target which improves the accuracy of shooting when the person comes to play volleyball.

Another exercise for shooting is practicing servers and jump shooting in an open field to practice on distance needed for the ball to go. A common training exercise for volleyball that can be done alone is jumping jacks as it stretches legs and arms improves flexibility and makes it easier to jump in volleyball thus making it easier to shoot and block.

There are also some exercises that can be done with a partner or a teammate. One of the simple exercises I shooting the ball towards your partner or teammate and then he returns it. This is one of the most common drills for practicing volleyball. Duo training is an overhead shot. This is where you shout the ball as high as you can then your partner delivers it to you in the air then you shoot again.

A manager needs to know his team well and have a good relationship with them. He must also be able to make and coordinate plans for them so they win their match. In a volleyball match, each team consists of 6 players. Managers use plans either defensive or offensive that require strategy focus and coordination. One of the common plans in a volleyball match is a 5-1 offensive plan.

This is an offensive plan and that could be highly effective as it’s used in championships and in most games. This is a popular coordination plan as it is one of the rotation plans. This plan has 5 hitters. There is only 1 setter at the back. This plan focuses on the front-row offense positions. Yet it also has a disadvantage since it focuses so much on the offense and attacking it weakens the defense and changes the balance to one side.

This plan occurs when the serve is played as after the ball is in the air before shooting the back row runs to their front row position to confuse the other teams then when the ball is shot from the serve to the other side and then returns the front row quickly shoots it to the other side very close to make the net tight and hard for the other team to shoot the ball or block it fast or quickly resulting in the first team getting a point. In plan 5-1 the front row is close to the net as they are mimmummly 2 feet close to it. This plan’s leader is the setter who stays at the back as he says when to go to the front and when to return. The main goal for the 5-1 plan is to protect the setter and increase attack and block. This plan has six rotations led by the setter. The 1st rotation is called ‘stack right’. The 2nd rotation is called ‘stack middle’ the 3rd rotation is called ‘ stack left’. These are the main rotations. Other rotations which are 4, 5, and 6 include the setter taking a step forward.

So if I am a manager this is what each player’s role is. Player 1 stays in the front and focuses on the upcoming ball towards his side to quickly jump and block. Player 2 should be ready for his rotation mark and go to the front row when his setter gives the mark. Player 3 does the same as Player 1. Player 4 is the setter and has the main role of controlling and organizing rotations each serves. He must focus on the destination of the ball to determine which rotation is needed to use. Player 5 has the same role as 1 and 3. Number 6 is the same as 2. Overall players 1,2,3,5,6 need to focus on the rotations they will move in and be quick and careful. Also according to their front position rotation, they must protect the setter and try not allowing any ball to reach the back.

So this is one of the plans for a volleyball match. But when a match is over it needs to be analyzed and revised to detect flaws and predictions. One of the most popular matches was in 2018 in the world championship in volleyball in the final between Poland and Brazil. And I will be analyzing the first half of that match.

The first half starts with Brazil scoring a quick serve ace which was a strong start. But that hasn’t made Poland any weaker as they have initiated their 5-1 plan rotation which enabled them to score a goal right after the first one from Brazil. Poland with their 5-1 tactic pushes and gets another goal due to their ability to communicate use rotation and follow the setter correctly. However, the Brazil team had a strong shot as they were able to achieve 2 goals using serves which was troubling for Poland since their tactic weakened their defense. At a certain point in time brazil when the score is 3,3 the Brazilians start using their 5-1 tactic. As you can see in the match Poland usually aims the ball for up to down however Brazil usually sends the ball at a far distance. Brazil keeps improving with their combined far-distance shooting and 5-1 tactic yet Poland keeps relying on each other for each block they have. I can see that their team trusts each other and have great chemistry. My most likable moment or strategy in the game that I think was really smart was when Brazil tricked Poland. After the technical timeout brazil was 2 feet or less away from the net and jumped as if they were going to shoot the ball but actually the player just raised it to the sky and another player shot it and scored. Here the Brazilians were able to use the tactic against them as they gave them the idea that they would shoot her so the front row came to this specific area thus opening some space in their field and leaving it making the player able to aim at that empty spot and score. The first half ended with Poland winning against Brazil 28 to 26. Poland won in the first match half since with every move Brazil was making Poland was gaining knowledge. Meaning that they learned how to overcome each skill or move the Brazilian planes. Since Poland learned to not keep spaces open this didn’t allow Brazil to trick them twice. They also learned how to block Brazil’s high serves and strong shots by practicing during the match itself with every ball passing. So I think that Poland put in a great effort in this half as they used their brain in the game and not only their body.

Sport

There are six players on each side of the court at all times that are separated by a net. The goal of the game is to keep the volleyball off the ground on your side by using a maximum of three touches. Points are made on every serve and the serve goes to the team that won the last point. There are twenty-five points within a set. A match is the best three out of five sets. If the game goes to five sets the last set is played to fifteen points. The game can last up to three hours.

The length of a season is six to eight months for club teams. The professional volleyball season begins in mid-August and lasts until mid-October, with seven different tournaments. In the regular season, there are twenty-five to twenty-seven games. Unless it’s a tournament they play two games a week.

The anaerobic energy system is the primary source of energy in the game of volleyball. There are many short spirits such as jumping, diving, and shuffling, which would only last up to approximately 6 seconds. Glycolysis is also used in a long rally while athletes are always on their toes and moving to the ball. The anaerobic and glycolysis energy systems are constantly being used, but the aerobic energy system is still important to maintaining a high level of performance for the duration of the game. [3]

Physiological

Volleyball is a sport that requires strength, power, agility, speed and thought. Strength is an integral aspect of the sport of volleyball. Upper body muscular strength is important when spiking the volleyball. The lower body needs strength in order to jump high enough to get hands up to the net to block and spike the ball. The power to generate strength quickly is a key aspect of volleyball. Athletes need leg power to jump and upper body power to generate a spike. The vertical jump is a relevant test for volleyball players. Agility is an important aspect of volleyball for both offense and defense. Agility is the ability to move your body fast and efficiently into the correct position needed at that moment. The skills of driving, moving to the ball, and sometimes dodging the ball are necessary in the game of volleyball. Speed Athletes need to be quick on their toes in order to get into the right position to return the ball. Speed is necessary in both reaction time and movement. [1] [2]

Biomechanical

Volleyball occurs on a count indoors. The floor is either wood, synthetic or court tiles. The upper extremities bump the ball, set the ball, and spike the ball during the game of volleyball. These three touches occur almost every time the ball is on the team’s side of the net. The lower extremities move the body to the ball very quickly and help the athletes jump to spike and block the volleyball. The biomechanics of jumping and landing are important as well as moving from side to side quickly in an athletic stance. If the biomechanics are off at all it could lead to injuries. The trunk generates power when spiking the ball and quickly getting up off the ground after a dive. [5]

Phycological

There are a lot of external stimuli for volleyball players in the gym or arena. Some factors include the other team talking about where the ball is, the crowds trying to throw the athletes off by making loud noises, and what the coach is asking. Athletes have to focus on their team members and what the play is going to be in the moment in this one play. The athletes need to track the ball at all times and focus on the ball. Questions such as where the ball is going? How am I going to get to the ball? Am I going to need to call one of my teammates off because I have a better angle? Call for the last touch to kill the ball? Who is getting the ball? And Who do I need to cover from a block? There are many questions for each athlete on the court to think about in a split second. The movements of volleyball are simple, but to perform at the pace that the game is played it becomes very complex.

Injuries

Ankle sprains are the most common injury in volleyball. These injuries occur from bad landing usually up at the net when there is contact with an opponent or team member after a defensive block. There are many knee injuries involving the ACL that are common among female volleyball athletes. ACL injuries occur when athletes are landing after jumping as well as overuse. Shoulder and back injuries are due to overuse in spiking and serving the volleyball. The shoulder causes the longest absence from the game with the knee, and ACL injuries, just behind the shoulder. Injuries are most likely to occur during practices when athletes are practicing in practice, they are getting many repetitions which then leads to overuse and possible injuries. [6]

Environmental

It’s important to train as you play. There are specific positions within volleyball and that’s important to think about when thinking of a conditioning program for a volleyball athlete. A Libero shouldn’t be trained the same as an outside hitter because the Libero does not jump up at the net but will be playing defense more. There are some aspects of the game that both athletes will do, but overall having different conditioning programs for each will benefit the athletes greater. Different positions will more than likely have different injuries as well so taking that into account is important. Front-row players are going to have more injuries in general. Ankle, knee, and shoulder injuries are most common among the front-row hitters. Back-row players are more apt to get injured from diving on the ground and getting concussions.

Athlete Analysis

Characteristics

Annie is an opposite-side hitter for the United States women’s national volleyball team. She is a team player who is motivated to do her best for her team. She has a fantastic work ethic and she is always striving to be a better player and person. Her drive is contagious, and her extra work pays off and everyone around her sees the reward.

Annie is a twenty-six-year-old female who is six feet and four inches tall. She weighs a hundred and seventy pounds. Her spike is one hundred and twenty-four inches. Annie’s block is one hundred and twenty-three inches.

To find pertinent information on Annie and the other athletes on the team you first have to have the athlete perform baseline testing when working with them. Get their weight, height, and BMI. Doing a test to check their power with a vertical jump, speed with shuttle runs, agility with a reactive agility test, and strength with weight lifting. These are all necessary to get pertinent information. Talking about goals with athletes is another great way to collect pertinent information for each individual athlete and the team as a whole. Every athlete will have different goals for themselves so it’s important to know what each athlete needs in order to push them. [7]

Athlete Gaps

With Annie being six feet four inches tall she has the height to be great and she weighs one hundred and seventy pounds. If Annie was able to lose a few pounds, she might have more power to increase her one hundred-and-twenty-four-inch spike and one hundred-and-twenty-three-inch block height. If she was just a little taller and if she could increase her jump, she would be able to increase both her spike and block. [7]

There are no documented injuries in her past. With that being said, we want to do what is best for Annie and keep her healthy.

Causes of performance issues (Strength, power)

If Annie had more power, she could increase her vertical jump. The increase in her jump would increase her blocking and spike stats. Strength improvement could also improve her stats and help her have more heat on the ball when she is hitting the ball and her serve as well.

Goals and Priorities

Annie plays volleyball because she finds it fun. She is very passionate about the game of volleyball. She plays volleyball around the world because she loves the game. She has gained some of her best friends through the game. She loves to represent America with the National Volleyball Team. She finds fulfillment in playing the game and getting better at the game. Annie’s goal is to increase her kill record by ten percent in the next season. She is always striving to be better than her opponents and better than herself yesterday.

Team USA is a stakeholder in Annie’s career. The facilities that Team USA uses are a big part of her greatness. All the clubs that Annie has played for have benefited her. She went to Purdue University and they were stakeholders while she was going to school on a full ride. The Team USA fans are also important to her success.

Resources and Limitations

The volleyball team has a host city with a gym and weight room in Anaheim, California at the American Sports Center. Team USA travels to different countries to play in tournaments against other national teams. The limitation that Team USA has is that they have to travel a distance to play during the season to play in games. [4] There is only one National Team for USA which is also a limitation because they only have themselves to practice against and scrimmage against.

Volleyball Game As My Favorite Sport: Reflective Essay

Have you ever watched a volleyball game? Well it’s my favorite sport to watch and play. I play outside hitter; my hero is Roni Jones Perry. She plays on the BYU women volleyball team as an outside hitter. She was a starter as a freshman in College. She married Todd Perry. She went to high school at Cooper High School. She grew up and still lives in West Jordan Utah.

Roni Perry dreamed of being a gymnast for 11 years. As she grew up her parents couldn’t afford for her to do gymnastics anymore so she tried softball. They through Roni as an outfield player. No one could through as far and as hard as Roni could. She went to the gym with her mom, and her mom’s friend told her she had a really strong arm. Her arm was strong enough to be a really good hitter. Roni tried volleyball and she loved it. Roni said “I just love hitting the ball hard.” “And I love the team aspect of it. Because as a gymnast my whole life, I never really had a solid team-sport feel. In volleyball everybody on your team has to do something. That was really inspiring to me.” Roni’s Junior year in High school she started getting Collage recruiters attention. Jones Perry got accepted to BYU Collage. But she was scared to go. Mostly everybody is Mormon and Roni is not. She was scared nobody would except her into the school being non-Mormon. She said “I knew that it could be a little difficult being on a team where everybody is strongly LDS. I knew that if I went to BYU, in some way or another, religion was going to be a pretty big factor in everything I did. Even My best friend poked at me.” The fear of going to a school that had different standards than she had is very difficult, but she round that by accepting other by their difference they would also accept her for her standards and beliefs. Roni overcame challenges on which sport she was going to plus and she also overcame his fear of going to a school with a bunch of unknowns.

When you play on a team everybody has their own set of responsibilities, and rules. Learning how to work together and to reply on your teammates are extremely important. As team captain Roni loved to work her team. She became a strong leader and helped to build strong relationships with all the players. This has helped me realize that having a strong relationship with your teammates is really important. I have to trust Avina to set me the ball perfectly.

Roni Jones Perry is my role model because she is just amazing. Roni was really short and she worked her body to become 6 ft. and a starter on BYU. I want to be lik3e her. An outside hitter that has a high vertical. She has a high enough vertical that she could dunk a basketball. I want to be just like Ronnie Jones Perry.

In conclusion Roni Jones Perry is an amazing volleyball player. Out of the years she has played she has 192 digs, 69 blocks, 17 assist, 473 kills, and .342 HPCT. She has won Many awards including Most Valuable player 3 years in a row. She was named all region 3 years in a row and named the player of the year. Roni loves volleyball and I hope to be like her

The Great Depression lasted a decade and affected people’s attitudes toward life and the future. Because of this period, Seabiscuit became a famous icon of hope, being an underdog in the sport, which aroused the people in feeling joy as they watch Seabiscuit win races against his toughest opponents. If Seabiscuit were to race today, he wouldn’t be as popular as he was before then, because horseracing is not a popular sport that would captivate a modern person. Currently, the United States or the world is not in such a dramatic state in which people need encouragement. People now do not need any particular special icon of hope to go through a tough time, however, that was the case back in the Great Depression.

Although Seabiscuit and War Admiral were both racehorses, they had many differences that separated them from each other as symbols. Seabiscuit was a horse that had grown from a small and weak background to become a famed horse because of training and hidden talent. Coming from a modest background, Seabiscuit represented the common people who needed hope. In contrast, War Admiral represents the advantageous people. With the Great Depression, capitalists played a dominant role in society, so Seabiscuit challenging War Admiral would be analogous to the common people revolting against the wealthy capitalists.

The press played the role of popularizing as well as pushing Seabiscuit’s limits. The press creates pressure on Seabiscuit and his caretakers to become better, and Howard uses the media to his advantage by using that pressure to further benefit Seabiscuit’s reputation. This helped Seabiscuit’s career, but it was also a hindrance because that pressure had been the hidden force to the end of the career as well.

Seabiscuit had shaped the personality of the people that he was around. Although Seabiscuit does not look at all like a competitive racehorse, he was seen as an underdog in the sport, which also inspired his companions. He changed Howard, for example, in that he became reengaged with classic horse racing after becoming successful in the automobile business. Moreover, Seabiscuit inspired Red Pollard after Pollard had gone down to become broke and homeless, but then when the two met, Pollard became more hopeful. Finally, for Smith, he became passionate about horse racing since it was a career that tested Smith in the things he was good at.

Red Pollard and Tom Smith are almost complete opposites, for example, the first is very outspoken while the second is very reserved. Howard was the person holding them together, resolving their disputes with his money. Pollard’s ambitious instincts and Smith’s knowledge were assets to each other because those combined helped Seabiscuit gain the ability to win.

The will and determination that all three men had were important to push Seabiscuit to win. The ability to not give up was the attribute that allowed them to continue the journey to making Seabiscuit the best. There were multiple times when the conditions were not favorable and there were also many losses, but those setbacks pushed the ability of the three men to continue.

There was the common goal to succeed in each of the men’s minds. Their will in winning was parallel to how Seabiscuit had the determination to compete and beat the other horses. This cultivated the horse’s talents by nurturing those feelings in competition and mending them when encountering setbacks.

The most significant lesson to be drawn from the successes is to always push for the better and to never give up. Even though there were times when Seabiscuit was unable to overcome his opponents, or the publicity that set back the training, pushing through those obstacles carried Seabiscuit to victory despite the conditions. This teaches the role of persevering and completely giving your all to a task, and if that fails, keep trying again.
