The Importance Of Communication Skills For Nurse Students

INTRODUCTION

The main important thing that I write this essay is to discuss about my first ever experience that I had as a student nurse during my first clinical placement. The objective of this essay is to highlight the most important skills as a health profession which is communication skills even though I am not qualified yet. I know it’s sound simplest thing to done it but believe me it’s require lots of knowledge and confidence to do so. This explain the structure of knowledge, clinical work and social communication (Raya A. 2006). Communication is an essential element in Nursing world in all areas of activity and in all its involvement such as prevention, treatment, therapy, rehabilitation, education and health promotion (Fakhr-Movahedi A, 2011). By the guidance of the Gibbs Cycle Model of Reflection (Gibbs, 1998), it helps me to write my reflective essay more understandable on what I did during this clinical placement and how I could do better in the future. As a student nurse, there are limitations on what we do because there are lot of things we must learn and get enough practice to do it.

DESCRIPTION

During my second day of clinical placement in male medical ward, P.M.M.P.M.H.A.M.B Hospital, Tutong. I was instructed by the staff nurse which is my mentor, to take BMI which is mean tables of desirable weight for height, as well as the tables used to define people who were underweight or overweight (Metropolitan Life Insurance Company,1959) and of course Vital signs, it reflect essential body functions, including your heartbeat, breathing rate, temperature, and blood pressure. The health care provider such as nurse or doctor may measure, or monitor your vital signs to check patient level of physical functioning (Ball JW, 2019). This two is the most important things to do when there is a patient admitted into the ward. This was my first ever experience to deal with the patient, then my nurse in charge asked me to do the job with her supervision. As the time goes by, waiting for the first patient to be sent from the accident and emergency department to our ward, I got butterflies in my stomach since it was my first task to do during this clinical placement. A few moments later, the patient arrived to our receptionist, then my mentor and I straightaway brought the patient to bed 7B since the nurse in charge already registered the patient details on Bru-HIMS, which is Brunei healthcare information for every person in this country who have been to the hospital. When I moved the patient to other trolley, I did not speak a word because I was too nervous and forgot to ask if he was comfortable on the bed. After that, I just took the necessary information about the person as what have been required on the patient admission paper. When doing this interview, I felt like my brain has stopped working during that time since I encounter problems thinking on how to ask properly, what word to be used. I was panicked and just questioned it very simple without explaining further more to the patient on why we need this detail. After the interviewing and vital signs taken, I got suspicious on my mentor the way she stared at me, afterwards she asked “Did you ask consent to the patient on what you are doing? Why did not you have a small conversation with him? So that he feels cared by us”, I just remain silent and lowered my head did not know how to respond to it, I just looked down and had a thought about it for a while then excused with apology. The discussion with the patient should leave no suspicions, doubts and misunderstandings. For example, if the patient suspects that while chatting with him we are making gestures to an escort, he/she will suspect that we are not telling him the whole truth (Papagiannis A, 2010). She then advised me and taught me on how to have a good communication skill with patient, health professions or anyone politely.

FEELINGS

During the incident I faced many different emotions due to my actions. In the beginning, before I deal with my patient, I was genuinely excited since it was my debut to carry out the procedure. But when I was waiting for the patient, the feeling of nervous kept ghosting myself as the nurse told me to get ready before the patient arrived. To be honest, I was shaking like a leaf when I did the interview while carried out the procedure which is taking vital signs. As the process done, I felt so guilty on myself since I forgot to ask consent and not having a little chit chat with him. This can lead to miscommunication between the patient and myself due to my troubled. Not only that, I also felt that the patient will get upset on me due to my action by not treating him so well. I knew it was my first time in clinical placement but it is not the reason I can make mistake. I have learnt and practiced the skills so much at school but when facing the real patient, it felt so different and hard for me to handle. I felt so embarrassed and ashamed when the nurse approached and told me my problems for not asking it so nicely, when I know it is very important to do so.

EVALUATION

After evaluating my action, there is always positive and negative impact reflection on my performance. Although my action was not very satisfying, I could see some benefits and positive aspects in my action but at the same time, it can be so difficult and challenging (Papp I, 2003). It took one failure to learn that lesson. I managed to get a good relationship with the nurses from that day by making sure I really do understand the instruction and procedure before doing the job. The negative impacts where I did not really make any conversation with the patient even though I knew it was very important. The caregivers should avoid silence when doing the procedure or else the patient will leave disappointed (Moussas GI, 2010). It shows that communication play an important role as he need to know and well-prepared for the procedure.

ANALYSIS

Asking patient consent is crucial since one person voluntarily agrees to the proposal or desires of another (Oxford English Dictionary, 2016). The failure to recognize the two-way communication capability, quite often leads to negative conclusions and attitudes (Kourkouta L, 2011). Not only that, as a student nurse or health profession I must respect patient privacy where I have been taught before. By this, I should really have a good sense on how to use words when interviewing the patient so that he feels comfortable and not be offended with my question and the way I treat the patient.

As the first-year student nurse, the most important thing before doing anything to the patient I must introduce myself to the patient politely so that they can feel appreciated and cared. I realized that when I do my job so sincerely, the patient can feel the vibe then it helps me doing my task more comfortable since he gave full cooperation and they can expect on what I am going to do. Another alternative way to learn communication is by observing how the doctor or nurses speak to their patient rather than leaving him straightaway.

ACTION PLAN

In the near future, I should need to remember to take this communication skills more seriously, even though it is the most common things to do but it has many outcomes. I do not want the same mistakes to ever happen again because it is felt so unpleasant. The way I approach, handling and safety to my patient also need to be better than this first clinical placement so that I can minimize the danger and or making another problem. Improve my verbal consent to patient before proceed any action to maintaining their privacy and my standard as a student. Moreover, enhance my knowledge on medication or clinical words so that the patient can understand me clearly on what I explained to him. By doing this, it also can attract their trust to the student nurse since some people did not trust me to handle the job have been instructed without the supervision of nurses.

CONCLUSION

With the help of The Gibbs Cycle of reflection (Gibbs, 1998), it assists me explain my reflective essay effortlessly. This clinical placement offer myself a real-life environment experience where I can apply most of the knowledge and skills that have learned in nursing skill practice classes (Esmaeili M, 2011).

Furthermore, I have been taught on how handling the patient, how to treat them correctly and how to overcome the difficulties when doing the procedure by the staff nurses, this show that during clinical placement as a first-year student. On top of that, I learned that communication skills are important in this job, because it is the only way the health profession and patients be in touch.

Effects of Interpersonal and Gendered Communication Skills

Introduction

Communication is the process of passing information from one place, person or group, to another. In each communication process, there must be a sender, message, and recipient (Mills &Maura, 12). The transfer of information from the sender to the recipient can be affected by several things, which include, the medium used to communicate, location, or social condition. The act of communication must embrace accuracy and effectiveness.( p. 9). There are different ways of communication (Nahon & Rukhsana, 10). These ways include verbal communication or spoken communication, and it includes communicating through television, face-to-face, telephone, and radio. The second category of communication is non-verbal communication which entails gestures, body orientation, way of dressing, and the way of standing. (p. 203,34,211 respectively). Written communication is another means of communication, and it includes books, magazines, emails, and letters (Mills &Maura, 17).(p 225,226) Another method of communication is visualization, and this one uses charts, graphs, maps, and logos to pass information.

A Competent communicator

A competent communicator is a person who can give the right communicative behavior in a given condition and at the same time holding the urge to demonstrate this competence.(p. 21) A person must understand the rules concerned with communication and must be able to show versatility, responsiveness, and assertiveness to become a competent communicator (Nahon & Rukhsana, 16). He must also be aware that all these skills are combined to come up with a good relationship with the individuals or groups being communicated to. A competent communicator should be able to perform these skills without showing any aggression in the process of talking (Mills &Maura, 20).

In the same way, when a competent communicator is listening to another party speak, a particular listening behavior should be shown. It is also critical that a skilled communicator will know the emotions to show when communicating and that he is not going to contradict the recipient of the message. For instance, in the process of communication, non-verbal actions are essential and should be expressed in a way that is understandable to the receiver of the message (Nahon & Rukhsana, 19). In this context, a competent communicator displays an understanding of the use of non-verbal acts together with mixing the other skills of conversation in the process of interacting with other individuals. It is a fact that I am a competent communicator but not a perfect one because I need to improve in many areas of communication to ensure that I fully qualify to be one.

Gender and communication

In the concept of the Intersection of Interpersonal and gendered communication, the issue of gender is factored in. Many societies in the past had a different perception of what communication meant towards genders. It was because a particular gender was expected to communicate in a specific way contrary to the other.(p. 51) For instance, in the 19th and 20th century, activists and scholars noted that masculinity and femininity were factors that determined how human beings, practiced communication in society (Adler, Ronald & Russell). During this time, gender was a factor that limited some people to communication, and being a female in one way or the other limited one towards communication. Men dominated this concept of the world to some extent. Hence the principle of masculinity came into existence whereby men could dominate everything. The process of communication is broad, and it touches in all the perspectives of life, for instance, authority and leadership in that when one gender is hindered from communicating vital issues of the state, it means that the gender is not able to rule the land. Women had been deprived of the right towards communication and more specifically when it came to relevant decisions of the world. Due to these, women felt discriminated. In the modern world, the principle of femininity and masculinity has been avoided, and it is evident that in different parts of the world women have the rights to communicate and give essential ideas that help in the better running of the world (Mills &Maura, 33). In the current times, because women can express themselves through communication, they can get into leadership positions, and it is evident that some women leaders have done wonders in terms of leadership and their contributions can never be underestimated. There have been women studies in communication to articulate the issue that concern challenges faced by women. These studies are aimed to teach women the importance of coming out strong and communicating when it comes to matters relating to leadership and performance (Adler, Ronald & Russell, 180). Through all these, women have gathered strong momentum in communication. Therefore, their positive contributions to the development of the world are evident in different areas.

Communication skills

One of the essential life skills is being able to communicate effectively. When one has good communication skills, he can pass information from one person to the other and can understand what is said to him without any problem (Nahon & Rukhsana, 29). For instance, a baby listens carefully to its mother and tries very hard to imitate what the mother says in the process of acquiring communication skills. There are several benefits of excellent communication skills. Learning good communication skills can aid all forms of life, from professional experience to social collections and in everything inside. The power to pass information clearly, accurately and in an intended way is a critical life skill and something that should be prioritized. Through this, one can improve his quality of life. In terms of profession, when one is looking for a job, he is required to demonstrate his communication skills. One should be able to speak to the people interviewing him with courage using expressive language that pleases the employer to ensure that he is considered for the job. When the career of a person advances, communication skills should also develop because the two go hand in hand, and one cannot do without the other (Mills &Maura, 41). In the concept of personal life, excellent communication skills enable a person to understand other people and also to be followed by others. Each personal relationship needs excellent communication skills. For people to live together in peace and harmony, excellent communication skills must exist. Good communication skills enable one to manage relationships with business and organizations. To be able to interact with organizations and companies, excellent communication skills must be embraced. This allows the smooth running of the market (Nahon & Rukhsana, 38). Many companies which have prospered in their operations have managers who practice communication skills and make it the priority in the running of the business.

Developing communication skills

Better communication skills can increase the way one acts through life, how he makes smooth relationships with the people he or she lives with. Lousy communication, on the other hand, can affect relationships. It affects the extent of business to personal and hardens one’s life (Mills &Maura, 47). It is critical to know how to communicate without any problems. One should be able to better his language, tone, and message appropriately to the audience to pass a point quickly and ensure the audience gets the point without any hardships. During the process of communication, the communicator should be able to present his information to the receiver or the audience in a transparent way. For a person to develop good communication skills, he must be able to deliver a message which is under stable to both parties. Meaning that the giver of the message should first understand the message before he presents it to the receiver to understand (Adler, Ronald & Russell, 18).(p 10)In the issue of interpersonal communication skills, one should be able to capture the attention of the receiver of the message. This is because interpersonal communication is a face to face communication. The language used should also be pleasing to the audience, and if there is any visual expression to be used, it should be in the right way (Nahon & Rukhsana, 44). Harsh language should not be used in interpersonal communication to ensure that the audience is not disrupted from getting the point being presented.

Conclusion

Generally, a competent communicator must adhere to the rules of communication and more importantly, ensure that the message reaches the receiver in the right manner (Mills &Maura, 51). The gender of the presenter of the message is not essential like the message in that a message can be presented by anybody provided that the message is well presented and received by the audience.

In communication, there are two common types of communication that are used by people which is verbal communication and non-verbal communication. Verbal communication is a type of communication that focus more on speaking communication. As an example, to make a disability person who was deaf understand what we were saying, we must learn and use the sign language that has been set apart for them so that they get the information that we were trying to convey. In communication, getting feedback also are really important in verbal communication to get more information based on what they understand. Communication Skills: Types And Theories

In this essay, I am going to be reflecting on my stimulated service user interview and will focus on two communication skills I used, the theory behind them and what I have learnt for my future practice. I will be using the reflection model from Rolf et al’s (2001) by looking at what skill I used, what effect this had and how I will be using this going forward. I will also be looking at the importance of relationship-based practice and how this shapes successful social work.

Relationships and human interaction are at the heart of social work, so the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively is extremely important. Teater (2010) says that the social-worker- client relationship is a crucial factor in the effectiveness of social work interventions and is an aspect of social work that cannot be ignored. In my stimulation, I feel I created a safe space through my verbal and non-verbal communication skills, which let the service user open up about his thoughts and feelings along with the concerns regarding his granddaughter. This allowed me to gain more insight regarding his situation, ensuring that I was fully informed and assisted me to begin developing a relationship. Person-centered Practice puts the service user at the heart of all interactions and teaches us to recognise them as a valid individual, regardless of their situation or negative behaviour.

Acceptance is having the understanding that people come from different lifestyles, morals, values, religions, and beliefs. As a social worker, you must be able to treat every service user as a valid individual despite their history or current situation. Egan (2013) argues that only when the person seeking help feels truly accepted for who they are, without being judged, that any positive change can be achieved. Part of this is self-awareness from the social worker, the ability to step back and recognise our prejudgments and discriminations. This ensures anti-discriminatory practice and allows a social worker to aid and assist without any prejudgments or discriminations and with unconditional regard. Our own past experiences or preconceived ideas could affect, even unconsciously, how we respond to an individual. Within my service user interview, I remained impartial on the service users parenting techniques, focusing on the concerns and emotions rather than adopting a teaching, judgemental role. Pointing out apparent failures on the service users’ side would seem to me to be unproductive and damaging to the relationship I would be trying to build. In my future practice, I need to be aware of my discriminations and make sure these do not taint my judgement and professional opinion. Whilst having this unconditional regard for a service user, it is important that this is not approval or agreeing with negative behaviour that could be damaging themselves or others. Acknowledgment of this type of behaviour is still needed, however, I feel this should be approached with respect and in a productive way.

Non- Verbal communication has a provable role in successful relationship-based practice with a service user. When exploring how important non-verbal communication is, Trevithick (2012) refers to a study by the influential author Mehrabian (1972) who estimated that in a typical interaction between two people, ‘the overall communication is made up of body language (55%); paralanguage (non- verbal aspects of speech) 38% and the verbal 7%. These figures suggest that non-verbal communication is paramount in attaining a deeper level of communication. Through our unconscious body language, we convey huge amounts of information to the service user, our judgements or emotions which we may want to keep hidden could be revealed. This can have a disastrous effect on the relationship of trust and respect we are trying to build up with the service user. The service user may feel judged and discriminated against which could cause them to become guarded or simply just disconnect. Within my service user interaction, I feel I had appropriate non-verbal communication, I had very good eye contact and acknowledged that I both listened too and understood his concerns with nods and open body language. I feel this allowed our conversation to flow naturally and easily. In my future practice, I feel I will be more aware of my body language and how I am using this to make the service user feel comfortable. The use of non-verbal communication must still have boundaries in place, a genuine smile or physical contact could potentially blur professional boundaries.

I feel having a sense of self is incredibly important, being aware of how my emotions affect me whilst speaking with a service user can help ensure that I am empathetic yet remain professional. On reflection I feel in my interview I tended to prompt the service user and try to fill in the silence, I need to ensure that I am giving the service user time to put across what they are trying to say in their own way. I need to be open to new knowledge, critical reflection and supervision to improve my practice as this will allow further development, but also celebrate what I have done well (Thompson and Thompson (2008). Forming successful relationships with service users will lead to better insights into their situations and more productive social work. I feel through successful communication, social workers can try to rebalance the power between themselves and the service user to allow interaction to be more of a partnership where both social worker and service user are working together to one common goal. Various theories link to communication skills in social work, but as every service user and situation is different so these can be used as tools to select depending on the situation and individual.

Negative Effects of Social Media on Communication Skills: Essay

Social Media Affecting Human Lives

Technology has been around for many years and is continuing to advance. However, because many people are using technology on a daily basis it is causing effects on individuals. This report covers the problem defined, the problem defined, the impact of the problem, two problem examples, and two attempted solutions.

Problem Defined

Social media affects the social skills of individuals in many different ways. After a study in 46,000 U.S. children’s homes in grades K 12, children who have been using social media for 45 minutes have begun to decline in their grades, sleep, social skills, and emotional balance (The Learning Habit). In addition to the article, 1% of middle school children received A’s in Language Arts and Mathematics after four hours of screen time.

Social media affects people’s mental health if they are used for long periods of time. Newspaper headlines talk about a growing crisis in our children’s mental health states Clare Wilson state, “Self-harm and depression are reported to be soaring.” A survey conducted by the United Kingdom’s National Union of Students found that eight out of 10 people in higher education said they had mental health problems in the past year (Wilson).

Social media affects people’s communication skills. The Kelly Global Workforce Index (KGWI) annual survey shows the results of nearly 170,000 people in 30 countries who participated in the survey. More than two-thirds (43%) say that social media has a negative impact on productivity at work, while 53% say that mixing personal and professional connections through social media can cause problems at work (Social Media in the Workplace). There are conflicts between employers and employees due to employers monitoring their employee’s devices causing issues with privacy. Debbie Grenfell, a director, says social media at the workplace is a real concern on productivity and intertwining personal and professional worlds.

Causes of the problem

Social media can make young people socially withdrawn or less practiced in social skills because of too much screen time (Nasir). According to “Too much of online life can affect social skills of children” a clinical psychologist and head of psychology at KidsFirst Medical Centre, Dr. Amy Bailey says many teenagers might feel depressed and/or anxious due to not fully comprehending the wrongness of what others can portray on social media sites.

Because the use of technology in schools is commonly used, it has a dramatic impact on teenagers. According to “Social media making teens antisocial” by Jasper Burley, Sam Gardner, and Blake Robinson a study was done at the University of Western Australia and shows that when students use media for more than three hours a day the side effects begin to show. Research that shows that technology has a major role to play in average teenage life includes that there is less socializing with family and friends, and physical activity which is the biggest loss.

The causes of the problem of social media are huge in communication. Director Debbie Grenfell states, “For many employees, social media is becoming a regular part of their lives.” A study was conducted in which 55% of workers indicated that employers did not have the right to view their employees ‘ social networking sites. While 53% said employers did not have the right to view the social networking pages of prospective employees. There are many complications with privacy and being able to communicate with one another. Grenfell states, “Employees are aware of the risks of social media, both in terms of productivity and the risk of mixing business and personal lives. So if an employer is upfront and honest about those concerns, employees will be far more understanding. The key is an open dialogue that acknowledges the sensitivity employees feel about their privacy, and the balance between their work and personal lives.”

Negative Effects of Social Media on Communication Skills: Critical Essay

The way people communicate with each other has changed for all time. A social community is allowing users to show the occasions of their lives thru posting snap shots and status updates, to monitor the lives of their pals, and to talk immediately through an integrated messenger has revolutionized Internet conversation, inflicting millions of human beings all over the world to percentage all sorts of facts about themselves. There have been, of path, different social networks earlier than Facebook, however none of them garnered such a sizeable user base, remained as persistent, and persisted to behave as a powerful form of conversation as a whole lot as Facebook did. Along with Facebook, presently there are numerous different social networks, every with their very own capabilities and functions; what unites all of them, though, is the concept of sharing. Seemingly, this must positively impact the conversation capabilities of customers, since it allows verbal exchange even for human beings a long way away from each different, or who are unable to speak live. However, there have been numerous studies proving the alternative: social media structures no longer only impair a consumer’s ability to percentage thoughts, however distort conversation techniques, developing extra issues than they resolve.

Speaking of the wonderful consequences of social networks, they lie on the floor. According to surveys, 39% of respondents stated feeling closer to their friends due to social media, while 26% of the sample felt that they had more friends due to social media (NR Media). Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other similar services make daily communications among own family members, pals, and business partners easier, greater accessible, and impartial of circumstances, consisting of distance. Communities existing on such platforms unite people sharing similar interests or worries, and allow the representatives of diverse cultural backgrounds to reach each different with no constraints. Helping strangers meet and enabling preliminary communication among them – this is what social networks are simply suitable for.

At the same time, several studies show that social media systems negatively have an effect on human beings’ social talents. Probably the maximum alarming phenomenon related to the vast use of social media services is the decrease in best of interpersonal communication. One of the big problems in present day interpersonal verbal exchange is the dearth of hobby humans have for face-to-face communication; even nowadays, there are many human beings (particularly millennials, or more youthful) who prefer to remedy paintings or private problems thru social messaging systems. Approximately ninety-three percentage of verbal exchange today is already non-verbal, and as a consequence, this requires an additional way of assisting people recognize every different (such as smileys or emojis), when you consider that textual content does not carry the entire palette of intonations or facial expressions. This brings up several troubles. For example, without these means, it’s far frequently greater tough to understand any other man or woman in a messenger device (the classical ‘he/she did now not insert smileys, so I idea he/she is mad at me’), or, in actual existence, it is able to become harder to distinguish and recognize real feelings. According to some experts, even families decide on texting over face-to-face chat. All this results in problems in professional and personal relationships.

Substituting real existence studies and activities with Facebook-layout on line updates is every other hassle. Studies display that about eleven percent of adults choose to stay at home on weekends and make posts on Facebook approximately how a good deal amusing they may be having, in preference to going out and acquiring actual-lifestyles reports. According to Hussein Chahine, the founder of the carrier Yazino, “Communication is constantly evolving. Some humans are as used to seeing their pals’ online avatar as they’re their face. People more and more pick brief and common engagement with on-the-spot updates on information than a prolonged chat and also are finding new approaches to capture up with friends from the comfort of their sofa”. Mark Clennon, a graduate of the University of South Florida, said: “People tend to need to expose others that they’re having fun than certainly having a laugh themselves. There’s a greater choice to proportion with different human beings you slightly recognize, than definitely putting out with buddies and making reminiscences” (USA Today College).

This is without delay linked to any other trouble: ‘Facebook despair’. Generally talking, it is the sense of inferiority occurring when humans (teenagers, more often than not) evaluate their real lives to the lives of their Facebook friends – primarily based at the posts these buddies make online – completely lacking out at the truth that what they see isn’t always proper. As a result, an exciting and alarming phenomenon emerges: many human beings take a seat at home, busy creating visibility of residing fulfilled, happy lives, and suffer once they see how fulfilled the lives of other humans are – who, of their flip, sit down at home, busy growing visibility of dwelling fulfilled, happy lives. This is a poignant example of a vicious circle.

Yet some other impairment of communication skills due to the significant use of social media structures is the impoverishment of language. Using messengers, people regularly use shorthand and shortened variations of phrases with the intention to kind and supply their messages as quick as feasible. However, such way of verbal exchange is a lot much less powerful than conventional ones (or instead, conventional, considering that contractions, slang, and abbreviations consisting of ‘brb’, ‘u r’, ‘m8’, ‘dunno’, and so forth have already grow to be nearly conventional), and those who get used to them can enjoy real-life interpersonal challenges. This is not to say illiteracy, that’s already becoming an outbreak of this technology communicating through messengers.

Although social media may help people establish initial touch and aid people in uniting into companies below positive interests, in addition they motive a number of issues. In unique, non-verbal communication is progressively becoming one of the dominant styles of interpersonal interplay, negatively affecting humans’ potential to address personal touch and meet the reactions and feelings of other humans in actual existence. A huge percentage of adults (up to 11 percentage) prefer staying at domestic and speaking through their gadgets in place of going out and acquiring actual-life studies. This, along with ‘Facebook depression’ and the general impoverishment of language and verbal exchange abilities, is alarming and calls for good enough and timely measures.

Exemplification Essay on Vocalized Pauses as an Example of What to Avoid in Public Speaking

Vocalized pauses are a break in verbal communication that interrupt a person’s thoughts and occur when a speaker fills the silence between words with vocalization, such as ‘like’, ‘you know’, and ‘um’.

In public speaking, we use a mixture of techniques to get a point across. The main purpose of giving a talk is to inform the audience of something and to persuade them. We want to be able to do that effectively. In my opinion, vocalized pause in public speaking is not acceptable, and as a speaker we should not use pauses in public speaking because they make the speaker unconfident, lacking knowledge and interest in the topic of discussion. A speaker who uses vocalized pauses is also reflected to have unsystematic arguments that controvert each other and their ideas are not well-communicated, which designates the nervousness and unease of the speaker. Vocalized pauses disrupt the flow of communication and do not carry any significant meaning, but can serve as a signal to separate the speaker’s thoughts. Speaking to a group of people in a structured manner to entertain or inform the audience requires a lot of practice. Fear of public speaking may cause sweating and headaches.

Lessening vocalized pauses can be rebellious, but can be reduced and eliminated with efficient practice and preparation. Vocalization pauses reduce credibility and cause difficulties for the audience to compered the message. It can create a negative reaction towards the speaker if they occur too frequently. Therefore, without a vocalized pause speaker will be able to convey meaningful and comprehensive information effectively in public speaking, and that will impact the behavior and attitude of the audience.

Vocalization pauses can be avoided by using an organized method of speech, and a proper presentation which helps to improve the speaker’s vocal performance and prepare them for a clear sense of purpose and strategies that will fulfill the purpose. With effective practice and preparation, the speaker can eliminate or reduce them over time, and if the speaker becomes aware of his or her speech issues, he or she is more likely to improve his or her speech habits. Speech practice with little or no vocalized pauses is considered persuasive because the speaker addresses the issue with authority and credibility. By practicing recording yourself you will just know that you sound more confident, and the audience will able to follow you more easily.

Ethical communication does not only lead to success but is also ethically correct and gives inner peace to the speaker himself. Thus, a person should conduct himself in a way that he expects from others. If he conducts himself in an ethical manner, others will follow suit.

Organizational Communications, Culture and Change: Importance of Communication Skills

Introduction

Communication skill is an important essential skill that each human being should have to use for daily life. According from Ravelry’s policy banned Trump supporters in their business websites can affects the business two sides important for their organizations such as advantages and disadvantages from doing this policy. ravelry received credit rules executed from 2018 roleplaying.game.site_RPG.net for writing the new policy (Catherine Shu, 2019).Bad communication skills can make people hate and love you in the same time. Which CataLink should know and prepare how to deal with hard communication situation problems for their business. CataLink can use the Ravelry policy case to learn how to avoid having no-platforming, othering and exclusion challenges by teaching good communication skills training the employees to know how to communicate with people, and motivating and persuading people. Bad communication skills can ruin your business’s future and images from bad behaviors. Inclusion Policy“We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy.

Support of the Trump administration undeniably supports for white supremacy.” (Ravelry, 2019)SuggestionFrom Ravelry and trump policy case will give lessons to CataLink to learning in know how to persuade people, be alert when talking in a public space will make ruin or build the business images, improve company communication skills to improve company work quality, learn how to be effective communication skills, know how to approach people, use a comfortable language when doing a presentation, and be a professional speaker. CataLink should not do the same behavior as Ravelry and Donald Trump did of their poor communication skills. For example, Ravelry and Trump used social media in the wrong way of communication skills hateful behaviors, power crazy personalities, childish, mentally issues, bullying and violent people in public speakers and social media, creating consistent messaging about face criticism and hate speech for letting people fight in the site. If CataLink wants to avoid business

challenges from bad communication skills like the USA having the problems about it right now. CataLink should learn how to do communication between CEO and their employees to be in the same track and know where to improve and solve problems will make the business improve their communication skills and understand each other more (Kunal Kamal Kumar and Sushanta Kumar Mishra, 2016). In the same time, Donald Trump should learn how to communicate or improving his communication skills. There are three main skills will improve his communication skills as president, he or she must know how to be a good speaker, have effective communication skills, knowing how to use the right language when they are speaking in public or posting messages in social media will make people trust and support them ( Lin Grensing-Pophal, 2002). So, the first one is rhetorical skills are being able to influence people is significant in a political world where every influencer relevant has their own specific attitude. The second one is listening skills to become a successful president, having good listening skills are also significant. To persuade and control citizens to be on your support and your side, politicians must listen to people’s perspectives and respond immediately. The last one is communication; communication is the main primary key to be a successful president.

To persuade members in the parliament even from an opposite party or your own party to support your opinion, effective communication skills are very essential section in winning opinion polls or elections (Management, n.d.). Ravelry should not ban Donald Trump. Because, it will create lots of effect to their community, as American has two sides of support such as people who support Trump and people who hate Trump. But, as Trump are being the US president right now, it can make Ravelry had a negative feedback and will have haters from making this inclusion policy.ExampleCuban stated that: ‘No leadership skills, no management skills, not very good communications skills, but he’s obviously had an impact on the economy, so he gets credit for that,’. The problem is Donald Trump not being able to communicate on the issues and does not know how to be a good communicator. As a president is a representation and face of the country, President should learn should have these three skills: good leadership skills, good management skills, and communication skills to be able to communicate with citizens and understand people’s concerns and needs for the country. WhyStart from the first, Donald Trump supporter in the last two-year slogan was obviously focused by xenophobia, sexism, and racism. When some of the observers have discussed Trump being a successful President as an outcome of economic stressfulness, the data demonstrates that anti-immigrant racism, sentiment, and sexism are very highly relevant to support for the Trump party.

Trump is been discussed voting benefits with non-college-learning whites American is misleading; while accounting for sexism and racism, the education gap among white Americans in the 2016 election returns to the general levels of earlier elections from 2000. (Vanessa Williamson and Isabella Gelfand, 2019)The reasons why Ravelry created the banning of Trump and his administration team are because trump has many bad behaviors to people. For example, Donald Trump’s bad behaviors are he’s being racist to Muslims and Asians, always talking bad things about women and violence, and bullying people on Twitter many users on Twitter want to ban him from Twitter. (Guardian, 2019) But, Ravelry uses social media channels such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter are using their influence power to spread bad rumors, harassment, and spread racism. it is special brave and powerful for people who use their site. but there is still a big impact site to take an attitude that certainly has a link between white supremacy and the Trump administration (Catherine Shu, 2019). The other main reason why many people hate Donald Trump was the travel ban policy, “President Trump’s executive actions take important steps to protect the American people by allowing for the proper review and establishment of standards to prevent terrorist or criminal infiltration by foreign nationals.” the DHS stated that. Since Donald Trump create list of several banned lists country for coming to the USA such as Venezuela, North Korea, Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Libya, Iran and etc. countries. This policy could bring many negative causes to the USA and hard for many people who want to go to will not want to travel to the USA anymore (Sabrina Siddiqui, 2018). Donald also being racist in do not allow

Muslim to come to the United States, the president also willing to send many Syrian refugees back to Syria and keep an eye on Muslims people in the USA as well (Nicholas Kamm, 17). This is the reason why many people in the USA and around the world hate Donald Trump and he should change his bad behaviors and perspective of looking at different cultures and communication. As Trump should know how to treat and understand people first then Trump will be received love and support from people back. how communication is an act of communicating, conferring, debating, discussing, the act of imparting from Old French Communication. (Online Etymology Dictionary, n.d.)Based on Ravelry and Trump’s case are having bad communication skills which can have several negative affects from this poor communication skills. For example, of poor communication can cause business challenges to CataLink. When employees in the company are dissatisfied clients is being a part of bad communication skills, have family problems can make people cannot concentrate and focus of what they are doing, mental health and physical issues are not unusual things such as when things go wrong in both at home or work can make people having physical or mental in the same time, unmet expectations is from poor communication when employees do not know how to figure out from they are doing well made them did a wrong thing, stress is made people feeling tense of everything you do is in hurry all the time from doing overworked will have poor communication skills and workplace issues from this problem (Anne Kinsey, 2019).If CataLink improves its business communication skills, it will receive a few good advantages to its business. Successful leaders can powerfully communicate with their employees. There are fourteen ways a business can use to improve their employee’s communication skills to become effective people such as: being a listener, laughing less and focusing more on earning, adding a story to increase audience retention, learning how to get along with the audience, using extemporaneously comfortable languages and speaking style, be professional in the art of timing, record important memories for people posterity, using PIP approach style, always using key points from start to the end, engage with your

audience by discussion, ask for realistic feedback, try to avoid depending on visual aids, people have to do lots of communication with people to be a good communicator, and study foundations of nonverbal communication (Deep Patel, 2019).challenges the business challenges of Ravelry banning Trump supporters in knitting community as have many bad problems as it should be as important a have in-kind organization political donation which the United States is coming up now. Ravelry business community will be banned to give any positive aspect comments to the GOP nominee, in Trump policies, and the Trump administration. People will have a wrong view of reality in many hundreds of millions of crafters who will be live in the images, discussion, pro-democrat words, patterns, and projects are welcome to rampant people all the time. Craft people in the knitting community will get to see many comments, projects, posts, and patterns about Banning Trump and will never see good views but see only the bad perspective view to the Trump administration. So, Ravelry are forcing their self-censorship to give cyberbullies be a winner, some users and few people will leave Ravelry of this banned policy, and most people will stay in the community as always and adapt their behavior after all. Because, Ravelry users still want to continue helping their organization projects, using Ravelry service, selling their products, and still want to see many new upcoming patterns things in the real life. Extending the censorship of the knitting continuum and some of Ravelry who are leaving the community cannot really solve the community problem after they are leaving. Because the Ravelry community is free of cost, people do not have lots of options, and cannot expect and complain as much as they want from this website as a paid community (Leslie Price, n.d.).

Trump’s signature problem might good to be the realistic and symbolic bound wall to his war to pause people from crossing the southern border legally in the finding of illegally and asylum in find of starting a brand-new better life in the United States. Critics definitely see Trump’s poor communication skills as a manifestation of white supremacy. From Trump’s allies on that problem, anyway it is not about a racing game, but it is related to an influx of important citizens who will be used for the economy, the healthcare system, and the public sector (Jon Healey, 2019).RecommendationCommunicating clearly is one of the most effective skills you can cultivate as a business leader. Remember to communicate using nonverbal and verbal cues. Listen carefully to what others have to say, and over-communicate in novel ways to ensure the content of the conversation sticks with the audience (Deep Patel, 2019). To conclude the meaning of the policy stated was Ravelry did not ban people who are Trump supporters in the site. but they are requesting that they keep their support of Trump and his administration of Ravelry. This is not the first time the site has acted against racist, xenophobic and white supremacist sentiment (Catherine Shu, 2019). Business owners need to seek for legal advice if they want to make sure that their business is in the right track and they might get much important helpful advice from it. (David Hill, 2019). Donald Trump should learn how to communicate with people and learning about other cultures will help him understand different perspectives of cultures is not bad as his negative thinking thinks(Miranda Marquit, n.d.). To avoid no-platforming, othering, and exclusion business challenges, CataLink should know how to communicate with people very well in associating the issue to be addressed with the emotion speaker want to elicit, pre-empt objections and address them, tell people that the proposed action is consistent with their beliefs, explicitly detail what it would look like if they go in the direction you want them to and you need to finish with asking people to question.

A Nurse I Am: What You Should Know

The first thing we should do as a nurse is getting to know our patients. We need to know their name and they need to know our names. We need to know their condition and if they are sensitive, quiet, or outgoing. We need to get to know our patients so they can be comfortable around us and tell us the things going on with them. We need to know their mental condition and their physical condition. As a nurse we should know and actually know the patient before we know the disease. When we know the patient, we know how to take proper care of their needs. We also know how they would react to certain things we tell them, for some people we would have to be more careful with our words than with others. When we know what is happening in the life of our patients, we will be able to talk about it with them and even cope them sometimes. We would not just want our patients to view us as their caregiver or nurse we want them to see us as their friend and someone they can talk to. Once we know the patients the next step will be to communicate with them.

COMMUNICATE

The second thing we should do as a nurse is communicate with our patients. Communication is especially important because whenever there is a problem going on with the patient, we need them to be able to tell us so we can solve the problem. If there is no communication its risks the patient’s safety and health which is a priority of a nurse. Even if they cannot physically speak it is important to communicate and talk to them. Some ways we can communicate with people who are not verbal is to write down what you are saying. For example, in the video the patient could hear but he could not actually speak so the way they communicated was through writing. Another example that was in the video is there was a patient who was deaf, so he could not hear. However, even though he could not talk verbally the nurse and patient were still able to communicate. They communicated with sign language. As you can tell there are multiple ways to communicate with your patients and communication is very important to know what is going on with the patient’s health and how you can help them. Other ways we can communicate is by calling, emails, and sometimes visiting the patients house.

BE AN EFFECTIVE INFORMATION PROVIDER

The third thing we should do as a nurse is to be an effective information provider. When we listen to the patient, we need to be able to remember what they are telling us and be able to tell this information correctly to the doctor, other nurses, and the patient’s family. We also need to be able to tell this without giving the incorrect information. An example is in the video the patient was telling the nurse that the other nurse was taking to long to bring her pain medication and that she did not like that. The nurse responded to her by first saying that she was sorry this had happened to her and then secondly telling the patient that she would talk to the other nurse about the situation so she can move more quickly the next time. After hearing this the patient felt comforted and felt better knowing things would change and that the staff is really listening to her and complying to her words. Another example is when a patient told her that she felt her medication is not working well. The nurse explained to her that something like that is profoundly serious and that she would talk to the doctor about changing her medication.

HELP PATIENTS TO COPE

The fourth thing we should do as a nurse is help patients to cope. Helping patients to cope is incredibly significant because it helps them with their emotional and mental health. When we support them through whatever is happening to them it makes patients feel like they are not alone and that some one actually cares about them and their emotional state. When you are coping with your patients you want your patients to feel better than they felt before. You do not want to make them cry especially when they were already sad before. You need to show sympathy for them and try to see what is going on through their point of view and how you can connect with them to make them more happy. In the video the male children’s nurse talks about how he shows empathy to the mothers and fathers of the sick children because what they are going through is exceedingly difficult and not knowing if their child will see the next day is very frightening. He tells them the information they need to know but he also shows love for them and gives their children confidence. He treats his patients as if they are his own children and grandchildren.

NURSES ARE MULTIDIMENSIONAL

The fifth thing nurses should do is to be multidimensional. This step is also important. Nurses need to view things in different perspectives. Something might seem right for the patient in the nurse’s point of view, but it might not be the right choice or decision for the patient. We need to listen to the patient and see from their standpoint because a lot of times a patient will have a great idea and a patient will know what will work better for their body. To be Multidimensional you need to involve integration of knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and ability for supply of quality patient care. Nursing is a multidimensional profession. Nursing reflects the needs and values of society, implements the standards of professional performance and the standards of care, meets the needs of each patient, and integrates the current research and evidence-based findings to supply the highest level of care. Although nursing has a specific body of knowledge and socialization into the profession and practice are essential components of the discipline. Clinical ability takes time and commitment. I know an expert nurse passes through at least five levels of ability when getting and developing generalist or specialized nursing skills.

MENTORING

The sixth thing we should do is mentor. We need to mentor patients and the patient’s family. We also need to mentor other nurses and nursing assistants. To be a good mentor you need to teach and make sure the person is learning and that they understand what you are telling them. As a nurse we educate the patient, (the patient’s family, or other nurses and nursing assistants). When we teach, we need to know that they know what to do if anything happens. Effective mentoring takes effort, and creating successful mentoring relationships needs particular skills, sensibilities, and structure from both the mentor and the mentee. Success happens when both people take responsibility for making it work. Successful mentoring relationships go through four phases: preparation, negotiating, enabling growth, and closure. Mentoring consists of a long-term relationship focused on supporting the growth and development of the mentee. The mentor becomes a source of wisdom, teaching, and support, but not someone who sees and tells on specific actions or behavioral changes in daily work. Nursing mentorship improves the quality of patient care and outcomes. Mentoring can foster the leadership skills that nurses need to secure larger roles in developing, designing, and delivering health care.
