Video Assignment: Shahnameh and Sundiata
Purpose
For this assignment, you will respond to one of the two prompts below and make a thoughtful argument about the Shahnameh and the Sundiata. You will then present your argument to your instructor via a PowerPoint presentation of 8-10 slides and a brief 3-5 minute video overview of that PowerPoint presentation.
Task
First, choose one of these two prompts.
Consider the origins of the heroes of the Shahnameh and Sundiata. What information do the authors share about the families and early lives of the characters Rustem and Sundiata? What are their backgrounds? Drawing upon that information, analyze how the heroes’ early circumstances shape their worldview and prepare them for the heroic journeys that follow.
Analyze the ways in which women in the Shahnameh and Sundiata influence the heroes of these epics. What agency do they have over their own lives? How do they adhere to the values of their societies, and in what ways do they break established norms? What price (if any) do they pay for the choices they make? Ultimately, what lessons are the audience intended to learn about the role of women in these societies?
Second, create a PowerPoint presentation of your argument. Include both text and images that illustrate and enhance the argument you are making. Use the following as an outline of what to include:
Start with a title page that includes your name, the title of the presentation, the date, the course, the name of your professor. (1 slide)
Explain the general topic and put forth a thesis, an argument that brings both epics into conversation with each other. (1 slide)
Apply that topic to both Shahnameh and to Sundiata. Give specific examples and quotations from the texts to support your analyses. (5-7 slides).
Your final slide should be your Works Cited slide, with both texts in MLA format. (1 slide)
Third, and finally: Create a 3-5 minute video. During your video, please don’t read each slide out loud. Instead, trust that your reader has already looked through your slides and use the time to discuss what you yourself found compelling about this project. For example, what do you feel is the most fascinating part of your presentation, and why? What do you understand about these epics now that you didn’t before you worked on this project? If you had time to continue working on this project, what might you explore next?

Write an annotated bibliography with 5 scholarly sources (I have provided you 1

Write an annotated bibliography with 5 scholarly sources (I have provided you 1 of them already). To find them you must use Google Scholar and they must be relevant to answer the question “What specific psychological factors have the most significant impact on athletic performance?”. When writing this annotated bibliography you must write a paragraph for each of the 5 scholarly sources. The first 2-3 sentences of each paragraph should explain the source and the next 2-3 sentences should explain how you will use the source to eventually write a paper to answer the question above. So each paragraph should be 4-6 sentences. All MLA format.

In Chapter X of Douglass’s narrative, he tells the story of his fight with Mr. Covey. Use this discussion post to talk a bit about that fight and what it meant to Frederick Douglass.
In one original post, briefly summarize the events leading up to the fight, then provide some analysis of your own. It might work best to use three paragraphs for this, but you may choose to structure your post however you wish. Here’s a rough outline for how your post might look along with some questions to get the ball rolling:
Paragraph 1: What is the significance of the root in Douglass’s pocket? In your own words, describe the fight and the causes leading up to it.
Paragraph 2: Ultimately, what do you think Douglass thinks about the root in his pocket? Does he think it helped him win the fight somehow? You might want to use a quote or two for evidence here.
Paragraph 3: What do you think about the root in Douglass’s pocket? Did it work like Sandy Jenkins predicted? If you’ve been in a fight yourself and you feel comfortable sharing your experience, talk about what might have been going through Douglass’s head during the fight and after.

Writing a research paper on mental health in education.

Writing a research paper on mental health in education.

You’ll be writing a research paper on mental health in education. A research project should accomplish two things: it should identify a gap in knowledge and should show how your research fills that gap. A gap in knowledge occurs when you as a researcher and reader notice that multiple sources appear to lack a settled answer to a stasis issue (fact, definition, significance, action). This essay should be 2000-2500 words, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-pt font, 1-inch margins all the way around, using MLA for both in-text citation and a works cited page (not counted toward total page count). This essay should use at least 8-10 sources, and at least half of them must come from scholarly peer-reviewed journals.

Go evidence hunting! Find a passage from McGowan’s text that utilizes either ethos, logos, or pathos as evidence. (This means you cannot pull any random quote; the quote must have a purpose!). In your analysis section, present the passage and explain which of the three rhetorical appeals is in use and how. Be detailed and specific!

Feeling some brain fog? Use one (or more) of these Key Questions to clear the cobwebs:
What was the purpose of this essay?
Did any of the information provided surprise you?
Consider the scope of the research in the essay. Was it sufficient?
How did you feel reading the essay? (consider author’s use of pathos vs logos)
Were the premises sufficient to support the conclusion?
What effect did the tone, word choice, or structure have on the argument?
