Succession Management and Career Planning

Introduction

Due to competition and changing preferences, an entrepreneur must plan any business activity and micro manage the risks involved. Thus, this analytical treatise attempts to explicitly discuss my risk tolerance for starting a business. Besides, the paper examines the five factors of production and how businesses compete with each other. In addition, the paper presents the lessons learned and the most valuable concepts from the class videos.

Risk tolerance

The term sustainability refers to the ability to survive a risk level while at the same time within profitability mode. In business environment, sustainability is affected by the forces in the market, decision science, business structure, and real financial management both in short and long term. Therefore, a business must put in place stringent measures and strategies aimed and monitoring risk modules within feasible levels in order to effectively manage its operations strategies (Nickels et al. 25).

Reflectively, there is a need for a certain level of operational risks in the business management matrix in order to track any changes and success of different business strategies. I may tolerate operational risks which involve threats associated with processes, people, and technological elements of running the business. The essential human input requirement towards the entry planning and development phases is part of the operational risk that has a positive impact on the stability of a business. Notwithstanding, the diversification of the workforce in a business may ensure flexibility in the definition of the interdependent components that translate to the realization of an elastic business operation. The above risk will ensure that my business has an up-to-date policy on safety and change strategies (Nickels et al. 35).

It will also ensure that the content of the policy is made available to all stakeholders in the business. In addition, the risk will facilitate the establishment of clear reporting, investigation and resolution procedures.

Factors of production

Technology

The mechanization of production demands that the production system matches production efficiency, while assuring quality of the supplied goods. Technology delivers on both efficiency and quality in the production of goods and services. With the appropriate technology, decisions can be made reliably and in a timely manner to ensure quality and efficiency in production. Quality improvement, as a result of technology, will be used to measure, assess, and improve the production channel. The success in quality improvement and efficient and cost effective production management is dependent on the alignment of the production soft skills and sustainability strategy to appropriate technology (Nickels et al. 15).

Labor

Labor basically refers to the mental and physical skills of persons that are accessible and exploitable in generating goods and services. Knowing how to improve quality is crucial in the growth of a business enterprise. Improved quality has great reward to business owners. Since the employees and other forms of human talent are permanently employed in the production process, they should be engaged in the production process to ensure that the company optimizes labor as a factor of production towards efficiency. Besides, in order to avoid crisis and unavoidable production breakdown, the human skill or talent should be engaged on a daily running of the production cycle (Hisrich, 21).

Capital

Capital, as a factor of production, refers to all forms of aids, finance, and initial cost outlay that a business activity needs to roll out its production chain. These aids facilitate constant and continuous production of goods and services for consumers. All businesses require capital for operation. Sources of capital can either be short term or long term. A business needs sources of capital to meet seasonal or temporary fluctuations in the position of funds. Working capital management is important to ensure that a business does not tie excessive cash flows in working capital. Further, it enables management to ensure that sufficient production of goods and services is maintained (Hisrich, 17).

Natural resources

Natural resource as a factor of production refers to all natural reserves that are employed constantly in the process of production. Among the examples of natural resources are land, business structure sites and naturally existing raw materials that are needed to complete the production process for goods and services. Without the natural resources, a business can neither exist nor support the production process (Hisrich, 22).

Entrepreneurship ability

Entrepreneurship ability as a factor of production refers to ability to combine the other factors of production such as capital, natural resources, labor and technology to create a sensible and sustainable process of producing goods and services. Entrepreneurship ability provides foresight which is very crucial since it gives a business rough perspective and an overview of the future concerning the expected and unexpected changes and challenges in the production of goods and services.

How businesses compete

Businesses compete with each other through the production of competitive products in terms of quality, price, quantity, and packaging. Besides, businesses design attractive advertisement and engage in corporate social responsibility to ensure customer loyalty and preference over their competitors (Hisrich, 19).

Important concepts from the videos

The main measures of entrepreneurship skills are scored on motivation, personal attitude and aptitude. Action planning in entrepreneurship is of importance to create solution oriented task and strategy implementation secession for quantifying task orientation levels. Thus, a budding entrepreneur must possess task orientation leadership skills at an individual task management level in reviewing actual and expected outcome of any business opportunity. Therefore, psychological stability is a recipe for success in the field of entrepreneurship since the entrepreneur will have to sometimes work under pressure while at the same time monitoring the quality of his or her services (Rothwell, 31).

Determinant Factors in Choosing a Career

Making a career choice is, perhaps, one of the most difficult decisions that people are faced with in their lives. There are varieties of considerations that should be made before making a career choice. For instance, a person may want to choose a career that he/she has a passion for, but the career may not be rewarding moneywise.

On the other hand, a person may want to choose a career that is rewarding in terms of finances, but this may force his/her to do something that he/she does not love doing. This paper states the ideal career choice, the pragmatic career choice and takes a stand on how people should choose their careers.

The ideal career choice

The ideal career choice would indubitably be the case in which a person pursues something he/she really loves doing, and the same turns out to be financially rewarding. In most of these cases, the person actually has a natural flair for the stated career and thus he/she does not encounter major difficulties while working (Rides 1).

For instance, a person who is born with a natural flair for athletics would make a perfect career choice if he/she chooses athletics as a career, and it turns out to be lucrative. Another example would be a nerd with a flair for computer programming. If such a person chooses computer programming as a career and it turns out to be lucrative, he/she will have made an ideal career choice.

It is however, common knowledge that people do not always get financial benefit from doing the things they really love doing. There are many reasons behind this. The main one is unemployment, but there are other factors like lack of good career planning. To explain the latter, it would be unwise for an introvert to study a course in college that will lead to a career that involves public speaking.

Therefore, an introvert who studies political science or mass communication is likely to pursue unrelated careers even if he/she has a passion for political science or mass communication. Such kind of people, together with those who lack employment opportunities are therefore, forced to make more pragmatic career choices.

Pragmatic career choices

Most people make career choices that are not related to what they love doing, in other words, their passion. This has been fuelled by the high rate of unemployment world over that has seen people pursuing careers that are even unrelated to what they study in college. For instance, it is common to see an engineer working as a Human Resource Manager, a social scientist working as a journalist or even a teacher in an unrelated career.

This has been the result of unemployment because people indulge in careers that are unrelated to their subjects of study in college in order to make a living as they wait to get a perfect job. The sad reality is that some of these people wait for a lifetime to get these jobs.

On the other hand, people who stick to what they love doing oftentimes get frustrated. This is because it may take a year or two to get a job after college. After the long period of unemployment, one may get a job that is not worth writing home about. The job may have limited financial rewards and it may lack opportunities for growth (Rides 1). This has contributed to the occurrence of the aforementioned career-switches.

Personal opinion

From the discussion above, it is clear that career choice should ideally be dictated by a persons passion and natural talent. However, it is good to be dynamic in career choice in order to ensure that one balances lifes demands with passion. If one is able to secure a well-paying job related to what he/she loves doing, then that is okay. However, a person may be unable to secure a well-paying job that is related to his/her natural flair.

It will be wise for such a person to consider a career-switch into choices that are more rewarding, or even look for a rewarding temporary job while waiting to get the ideal job. However, this choice has a major limitation in that the person may not be satisfied in the job that he/she settles for.

This will obviously lead to stress and burnout that may even affect the quality of work that he/she delivers. Despite this, the main consideration when choosing a job or career path should be the financial benefits of the career/job.

Conclusion

From the above discussion, it is clear that financial considerations should be the determinant factor in choosing a career, in case a person is unable to get a well-paying job related to what he/she loves doing. If a person makes enough money doing available lucrative jobs, he/she can be able to do what he/she loves doing.

For instance, if he/she has a passion for charity work, he/she does not have to work for a charity foundation. One can make enough money from other jobs and start his charity foundation. An engineer may make enough money, while working as a Human Resource Manager, to start his/her engineering firm.

Jorge Alderete Life and Designer Career

Jorge Alderete is an Argentine designer who is best known for his contemporary and unique illustrations and designs. He was born in Argentina in 1971 where he was exposed to comic books of the time. He slowly developed an interest in the graphics that were represented in such books. In 1989, he joined the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina, to study design and visual communication.

This move led to even more interest in the area of illustration and design (Hainsworth par.1). He temporarily worked in Argentina before moving to Spain. However, he permanently relocated to Mexico where he has currently developed most of his best-known works. His illustrations, designs, animations, and comics have been displayed in many places across the world.

Elements of dynamism are evident in his work. In terms of his artistry career, Jorge Alderete is known for his surrealist and kitsch kind of designs and art. As a young man, he was interested in comic books where he drew inspiration for his work. This influence is evident in his work, which strongly leans towards comic book drawings and designs. He draws inspiration from science fiction, horror movies, Mexican culture, and the US underground comics among others.

Other graphic designers view Jorge Alderetes style as a pop style that is marked by many connotations and images of cultural garbage. Cultural garbage or trash culture is used to refer to the many aspects of the society that people consider insignificant. In other words, the society looks down upon this culture. In the last sixteen years, Alderete has stayed in Mexico. Hence, most of his culturally inspired designs are depictions of the Mexican culture, although he also depicts the Argentinean civilization.

Common elements in his work include Mexico City graffiti, monsters, Lucha Libre, aliens, and the 1950s and 1960s cultural and pop depictions, and science fiction (Hainsworth par.3). Some of his works include mutant with a cigarette, Maradona the soccer player who is depicted as an apostle with a burning soccer ball in his heart, a beehive hairstyle, and a green-faced female vampire among others.

One of the major factors that distinguish Jorge Alderete from other designers in Mexico and the world is his focus on cultural aspects that the society has ignored. His focus on the trash culture is an exclusive strategy that other designers rarely or never address.

In Mexico, while most of the aspects that are depicted in Alderetes designs have little significance to the culture, Alderete has an opportunity as a foreigner to look at such cultural practices from an outsiders viewpoint. Therefore, most of his works depict many Mexican cultural aspects that other designers have often overlooked (Hainsworth par.4).

For example, the Mexican Lucha Libre wrestling is often viewed as an activity of the low-class members of the society. Consequently, for a long time, it has escaped the interest of great designers and illustrators in Mexico and across the world. However, as a foreigner, Jorge Alderete has managed to gain interest in such activities. Consequently, he has developed an illustration and design career around such activities.

Concisely, Jorge Alderetes unique designs that focus on the trash culture and other depictions of cultural aspects of the pop civilization have enabled him to differentiate himself from the rest of the designers. He has established a unique practice that has led to his popularity and success as a modern designer and illustrator.

Johnson & Johnson Career Web Site Analysis

Introduction

This is an analysis of the Johnson & Johnson career Web site. The analysis focuses on navigability, content information, and aesthetic features of the Web site. Web site design evolves as technologies change. Nevertheless, a professional Web site must observe the guiding philosophy of aesthetic features (professional feel), navigability (ease of accessing and processing information), and functionality (functional aspects of the site such as data contents) of the Web site (Eccher, 2011).

Navigability

Web site designers for Johnson & Johnson applied the concept of Web site navigation during the design process. For instance, the career site has a site menu, Explore Careers for navigating different jobs in various countries. The menu helps users find any item or information they wish to know about careers at the company. For example, users can navigate the menu and pick a career of their choice in specific countries listed. Besides, users may also wish to select careers based on their areas of interests under business while others may consider their academic qualifications student tab. The Web site is easy to navigate because of readily available menus to direct users. A menu should be smart to improve Web site navigation and usability. Maintenance of a Web site tends to be difficult. This explains why navigation should be simple to ease processes such as detecting errors, deleting, adding, or editing items (Collison, 2006).

To enhance the usability of the Web site, navigation must be a simple process. The career Web site offers these advantages and users can search for jobs through the search area using keywords or locations.

Content Information

The career website for the company consists of different content in different formats. Johnson & Johnson career Web site is high content Web site because it offers abundant information to jobseekers. The Web site has several contents since the designer restricted the number of images but included running ones to enable interactive capabilities (Black, 2011). The site has both text and graphic presentations. However, it lacks music and videos. While Johnson & Johnson career site has included a listen button, the content can hardly play for more than three seconds. This is a major drawback for a professionally designed Web site for a multinational company.

The career Web site for the company is complex in design to accommodate much information and several related links. In this case, the Web site has fully achieved an application status and has several interconnected contents. For instance, users may click on the engineering tab, which leads to other links with Learn more or View all jobs. Consequently, the volume of this Web site content is high and it could increase significantly because of the size of the company.

The contents are not cluttered to enhance usability and experiences. A focus on usability of contents has eliminated challenges that users may face because of several links. Still, the Web site offers the best content, which can easily be navigated. A Web site with organized content is easy to maintain in terms of adding, deleting, or editing content. Jobseekers can browse several contents on Johnson & Johnson businesses, culture, and hiring processes. Also, there are interactive links to social network sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and the companys blog. A good Web site must attract and retain its users through delivering valuable content and the company has achieved this by delivering appropriate and relevant content to jobseekers in various countries.

Aesthetic Features

Aesthetic features of the Johnson & Johnson career Web site depict a professional look and feel of the Web site. It is consistent with the business branding of the company.

The Web site has aesthetic features achieved with multimedia elements such as Flash media on the main site. For instance, there are texts and images, which move automatically and users can click on the listen button for sounds or narration. Besides, users can also watch videos on the site.

Johnson & Johnsons career Web site is highly organized and looks professional. There are no cluttered contents, which may interfere with aesthetic qualities. Also, all contents are neatly arranged with menus for ease of navigation and usability.

The designer managed to achieve functionality, aesthetics, and navigability through a complex design, which included relevant content for a career Web site. Users can navigate the Web site through various menus and find relevant content while a combination of texts and images provide a professional feel and look.

The effective design has created a career Web site that is versatile, efficient, scalable, consistent, and user-friendly (Thomason, 2004). The Web site achieves the main philosophies of a Web site design like usability, aesthetics, navigability, and functionality.

Suggestions for Improvement

The designer failed to customize the Web site for different users. For instance, users cannot choose any other language other than English. This should be a major area of concern for an international company, which seeks employees globally.

For individuals who seek to listen to content information, the listen button works, but the narration is extremely short. This could mislead users who wish to listen to narration rather than read content information.

Book Report: Fun Is Good: How to Create Joy and Passion in Your Workplace and Career

Fun Is Good: How to Create Joy and Passion in Your Workplace and Career by Mike Veeck and Pete Williams is a book under consideration. The main theme of the book is a presentation of the formula of success. According to the authors opinion the business is successful only in case when the employees have fun while working.

Mike Veeck writes, Make work fun and you will create a culture of creativity where the best people will want to work and customers will want to spend their money (Veeck and Williams n. pag.). The main idea of the book is to give people an opportunity to reexamine the business they run and make it work better. The book consists of three parts each of which covers four chapters.

Thus, there are 12 chapters in the book with the acknowledgement, the introduction, the conclusion (afterword), the index and the section which contains some information about the authors. Each chapter contains a story which helps understand that to be successful the work should give pleasure.

The title of the book speaks for itself. The book provides the reader with the information how laugh may be a key to success, why customers may bear looses because the employees of the company they work with do not have fun, how people who enjoy their work may influence others, and how HR managers should hire people.

The authors of the book say that passion is the main feeling that inspires people for work. It is passion that drives people to be creative, productive, and efficient at work (Veeck and Williams 4). The same idea offers Dennis Bakke, who writes, A passion is to make work exciting, rewarding, stimulating and enjoyable (Bakke 13).

At the same time, Veeck and Williams state that passion is not the only requirement for success in business. Reading a book, it becomes understandable that to have a successful career, a worker should have fun, be creative and passionate. Fun helps relieve stress. Some authors offer darts as one of the ways for this (Fry and Fischer 19).

The book is special in a number of reasons. First of all, it offers an innovative way for running business. Some employers adhere to an opinion that the guarantee of the successful business is strict discipline, research, and planning. But even they agree that the work should bring pleasure and pride (Pinson and Jinnett 2).

Thus, to have fun while work is the first important feature that makes book specific. The second reason that makes this book special is the way how the authors deliver their ideas. Small stories are offered as the examples which are analyzed in the book. When the story is read and the results are seen it is impossible to reject that the method is effective.

The book is a great opportunity for those who want to look at business from different perspectives. But, this method is helpful only when the sphere of services is considered. It is impossible to use this method when manufacturing and other working spheres are meant if high concentration and attention are necessary.

Still, this book should be read by those who are planning to start their personal business. There are so many different ideas on work organization and employees treatment. These ideas may be really helpful for those who want to be successful, and there is hardly a person who does not want to be prosperous.

Mental Health Specialist Job and Career

Many children tend to have a wide range of learning disabilities. Such disabilities can pose a major challenge to parents, educationists, and teachers. Gilbert and Bilsker (2012) believe that learning abilities differ from one child to another (p. 12). That being the case, educationists should identify the best programs to support these learners. Many learning institutions have embraced the power of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in order to provide quality education to learners with various disabilities (Ha, Greenberg, & Seltzer, 2010, p. 407). Feehan, McCarthy, and White (2003) argue that a typical Child Study Team (CTS) will include a learning disability consultant, a social worker, a language therapist, parents, teachers, and a psychologist (p. 2).

Job Description: Mental Health Specialist/Psychologist

Job Description

Psychologists can work in different health, institutional, and organizational settings. Their skills and competences make it easier for them to provide appropriate care, support, and guidance to individuals with various psychological problems. A mental health practitioner will assess the cognitive and developmental abilities of the targeted learners. The professional will also monitor and assess the emotional status of every learner (Ha et al., 2010, p. 406). This assessment is critical towards understanding the major factors affecting the childs academic outcomes and behavior (Ha et al., 2010).

The mental health worker can also offer counseling and guidance services to different learners. The job also includes mentoring students with specific learning disabilities. The professional can also provide appropriate instructions in order to produce the best outcomes. Mental health workers also use their competencies to address the behavioral, social, and emotional problems affecting different learners (Feehan et al., 2003). Such problems tend to affect the educational performances of many learners.

Educational Background and Degrees

Students should complete various courses in order to become compete mental health workers. This goal depends on their current level of education. For instance, nurses and physicians should undertake new studies in clinical psychiatry for two years (McDonald & Das, 2014). Psychotherapists can also pursue a Masters Degree in Psychology in order to become competent mental health workers. Some schools hire mental health workers who lack formal education in psychology. Individuals who want to become clinical psychologists should complete a Bachelors Degree in Clinical Psychology or Psychology (Ha et al., 2010, p. 409). This degree equips them with the best competencies and skills that can support their career needs. The practitioners are also expected to complete a Masters Degree in Psychology. This degree will equip them with the best concepts.

Employment Type

The employment type for many mental health specialists is contract-based (McDonald & Das, 2014, p. 38). Many schools sign renewable contract with such professionals. This is the case because the needs of different learners change from time to time (Ha et al., 2010, p. 409). Psychologists are also expected to offer professional services. Such contracts are essential because they encourage different professionals to act in an ethical manner. Mental health workers can also get permanent employment opportunities (Feehan et al., 2003).

Job Opportunity

Mental health professionals can work in different settings. Many healthcare institutions do not have enough psychologists (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012). This gap affects the nature and quality of healthcare services availed to different patients. Most of the psychologists operate their personal clinics and psychotherapy sessions. This is the case because their services are demanded by many people in different parts of the world. The current shortage of psychologists has forced many practitioners to complete new courses in order to provide psychiatric services.

Learning institutions have established CSTs in order to support the needs of different students with mental disabilities. This move shows clearly that mental health specialists can work in such schools. A new trend has emerged whereby organizations and institutions of higher learning employ psychologists to offer counseling services (McDonald & Das, 2014). The practice continues to support the emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of many people (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012). Such measures are undertaken in order to improve the performance and profitability of such institutions. Psychologists and mental health practitioners have higher chances of getting new job opportunities.

Salary and Remunerations

The salaries of mental health practitioners are comparable to those of different medical workers (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012, p. 28). Psychiatrists can get over $150,000 in a year while clinical psychologists can get around 65,000 US dollars (Ha et al., 2010, p. 410). The average salary for a mental health counselor ranges from 40,000 to 50,000 US dollar per year (Feehan et al., 2003, p. 7). Gilbert and Bilsker (2012) observe that such salaries will increase significantly within the next five years. This is the case because mental health and counseling services are needed by more people today.

Workmates

Psychologists working in a Child Study Team will have to collaborate with different professionals. This kind of collaboration is essential towards producing the best outcomes. The practitioners will have to work with Learning Disability Consultants (LDCs). These are qualified and registered teachers who have specialized in learning disabilities (Feehan et al., 2003). These individuals develop the most appropriate instructions depending on the learning needs of the targeted learner. Social workers will also work with different mental health practitioners. Such workers will foster the best relationship between the learner and his or her community.

The group will also include a speech therapist. The role of this therapist is to assess the childs ability to communicate with teachers, parents, and classmates (Ha et al., 2010). It is also notable that psychologists working in a Child Study Team will have to interact with different parents, educational leaders, and teachers. The learning process is usually complex and should borrow evidence-based ideas from these individuals. This kind of collaboration will ensure every CST designs a powerful instructional program that can improve the performance of the targeted learners (Feehan et al., 2003).

Job Schedule

The job schedule of a mental health worker depends on a number of factors. For instance, the individual might be required to work fulltime in the targeted institution or school. The schedule will also be determined by the obligations, strategies, and roles of his or her CST (Ha et al., 2010). Some psychologists undertake a wide range of duties and roles. This means that such practitioners might be required to provide their psychological services to different patients (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012). It is therefore agreeable that the schedule of many mental health workers will be flexible. This flexibility makes it easier for them to focus on the needs of more patients. They can also engage in private practice in order to achieve their career goals.

Pay Rise and Promotion

As mentioned earlier, psychologists will be getting better salaries in the future. The job market is promising because more people are in need of different psychological therapies and treatments. Practitioners who support the changing needs of different learners can benefit from pay increments (Ha et al., 2010, p. 408). Psychologists and mental health professionals working in hospitals are also entitled to new promotions. These developments explain why a career in psychology or mental health is admirable.

Performance Evaluations

Many mental health practitioners tend to sign contracts with different schools and medical institutions. This practice is common because such practitioners want to get the best outcomes and goals. Contracts are therefore subjected to performance evaluations. Mental workers should be able to transform the experiences, outcomes, and welfare of the targeted clients. Professionals who work in different schools will be required to support the changing needs of many students with learning disabilities (Ha et al., 2010).

They should also collaborate with every CST member in order to produce the best results. The ultimate goal of every Child Study Team is to ensure more learners are equipped with the best instructions and skills. Psychologists working in different educational settings will therefore be evaluated in order to make them more productive (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012). Individuals who fail to support the targeted jobs might lose their contracts or jobs. Mental health specialists should therefore embrace the best workplace values and competencies.

Ethical Principles: Code of Conduct

Every professional is guided by specific codes of conduct and principles. Such principles make it easier for practitioners to support the expectations of different clients. Psychologists and mental health practitioners should also embrace the best ethical principles (McDonald & Das, 2014). Psychologists should uphold the best standards of conduct, obligation, and responsibility (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012, p. 17). Psychologists must use their skills to promote truthfulness, accuracy, and honesty (Gilbert & Bilsker, 2012, p. 17). It is also necessary to safeguard and support the privacy of every targeted client (McDonald & Das, 2014). They should always respect the dignity, rights, and freedoms of their clients. Mental health workers in different schools should be ready to embrace these ethical principles in order to support the needs of every learner. These practices will ensure such professionals are ethical and successful.

Best Institutions and Colleges

Psychology and mental health have been included in many courses in the United States. A Bachelors Degree in Psychology makes it easier for many people to achieve their career goals. Many people in the country are therefore focusing on the benefits of psychology (McDonald & Das, 2014). As a result, more institutions have emerged thus affecting the integrity and appropriate of the psychology degree. Several colleges and universities are therefore known to offer the best programs in psychology. Kaplan University is one of the leading institutions in the country (McDonald & Das, 2014). The university offers a competitive Masters Degree in Psychology. This degree can make it easier for a person to get a good job (McDonald & Das, 2014).

The other leading institutions in the country include Stanford, Harvard and Radcliffe, Yale, Pennsylvania, and Columbia (McDonald & Das, 2014, p. 126). These universities offer quality degree programs that can support the educational and career goals of many learners. There are also more universities that offer good programs. Some of these institutions include John Hopkins University, University of Chicago, Indiana University, Carnegie Melon University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Princeton University (McDonald & Das, 2014, p. 129). This discussion encourages learners to identify the best colleges that can support their career goals. Many colleges and universities are providing similar programs in order to cater for the changing expectations of many learners (Ha et al., 2010). This development explains why more individuals should undertake such programs in order to address the current shortage of mental health practitioners.

Future Career Prospects

New job opportunities are expected to emerge for psychologists within the next five years (McDonald & Das, 2014, p. 82). This is the case new health problems and mental issues are emerging every day. The current economic performance is also creating new job opportunities in different sectors. The population is also increasing steadily (McDonald & Das, 2014). Many people also want to achieve their potentials in life. One of the best approaches is to have a competent counselor who can deliver the best ideas. This development shows clearly that more psychologists will be able to achieve the best outcomes in the future (McDonald & Das, 2014). However, the level of competition in the job market is expected to rise significantly within the next few years. This is true because many people are pursuing their doctoral degrees. Employers will have to consider such academic achievements whenever hiring new psychologists.

Employee Career Management Plan

Many companies are increasingly incorporating career development plans into their strategic plans (Greenhaus et al 276). The recruitment of the new staff for Interclean Ltd was just the first step towards developing a fully-fledged department and a vibrant company that is capable of delivering results.

After the six-month training is over, the sales department members will be absorbed fully into the system of the company. They will form part of a large team that have built career out of the company. With the merger, the company is a lot bigger and one of the challenging tasks that the human resources department has to grapple with is the career management plan for the new employees.

The HR is not the only department that will deal with the management of the employees careers. Other management teams will be fully involved playing their roles in the development of the new staff for the long-term benefit of the company.

The plan will involve the setting and reviewing of the performance of the new staff while assisting them improve on their weak areas through continuous appraisal based on the feedback that they give. The plan will involve the submission of feedback to the employee, enhancement of the performance of the staff, provision and availability of advancement opportunities as well as educational opportunities and the scheduling of the working periods.

It is important to not that the plan will, be geared towards preventing a big turnover rate for the sales staff of Interclean company.

Feedbacks

The necessity of employer feedback in any organization cannot be overstated (Schuman 76).This will be feedback that the Interclean management will give to the employee concerning their performance in the company. For effectiveness and goal achievement to be realized, it is not advisable to have a timetable for dissemination of these feedbacks.

Daily attention will be needed from the management team in order to ensure closer observation from the managers. The observation will help employees to know which areas that the employees need to polish up so that they can hit their targets easily. In giving feedback, its important, for manager to give credit where its due. Its a major morale boost for them.

Additionally, the feedback should be accompanied by a candid explanation of why the manager feels the employee is underperforming and the tips how she /he should improve the performance. Its important for the management if interclean to make a list of all employees and evaluate them according to their job descriptions. The best opportunity that the management is going to give to the employees after feedback is the chance to make an improvement.

Performance

Feedback that will be given to employees of Interclean is meant to help them improve performance in their specific sales jobs. The management has a crucial role to play in the realization of good performance. The sales leadership of Interclean will address five issues that will enable the sales staff to perform.

The leadership will define the clear meaning of performance generally and for Interclean Ltd employees. This will help the sales staff know their expectations and work towards them. Secondly, regular feedback between employees and management will be necessary to ensure the staff performs well in their posts.

It will help identify their fears and challenges that they face so that they can be solved. During the training period and considerable appraisal, the management will have clear picture of who fits where. This will help them make required adjustments and if necessary reshuffle the employees according to the skills where they have strengths.

One of the arduous issues and tactic to improve performance is to help the sales employees of Interclean to develop commitment and willingness to work at the company and to do their job they have been assigned to do. The employees should never feel that they put too much in the job than they gain.

Finally, capable leadership will help them respect authority besides inspiring them. Solid and focused leadership will be necessary to ensure high performance is achieved. A good understanding leadership that will serve every employee individually will ensure high performance.

Promotions

Promotions and job advancement heavily depend on the performance of the sales employees of Interclean. Similarly, advancement in education will also be a factor in improving the chances of employees getting promoted. Career advancement at Interclean will be guaranteed for any employee that shows initiative.

Already, there is a plan in place that clearly outlines the steps one needs to move to a higher level. Given that the company is growing, the current sales staff will be given first priority when expansion of the departments they work in implemented. Additionally, the company encourages its employees to further their education especially on their respective fields as it helps them have competitive advantage.

Besides, Interclean is willing to offer education advancement incentives to the top performers who will qualify immediately they reach the levels as defined in the career plan. Other sales employees at Interclean who will express desire to advance their education will also put through the tuition assistance program.

Flexibility

Flexibility is desired by every employee (Greenhaus et al 200). The responsibilities of dual career parents demand that they engage in some level of multitasking. The programs for interclean sales employees will be flexible for such people but only to the extent that it will ensure productivity and retention of the employee.

They will be offered incentives for spending more time on the job to ensure they dont get low pay which will be a demoralizing factor. However, it should be noted that the sales leadership of the company will demand nothing less of adherence to sales schedules and meetings so that consistence is achieved and mentioned. That way productivity will not slump.

Adapting to Diversity

One of the most important business management aspects is the adaptation of manager to the diversity of their employees. According to Henderson, diversity is like adding color to an old black and white television. It makes watching this particular Television interesting to watch (89). Similarly adapting to and acknowledging diversity will add experience and new ideas to the sales team at Interclean so that performance is improved.

At Interclean, every persons career is important and all of the employees will be treated as such. The leadership will have to understand that every position is unique and will need special attention on an individual basis. That way every problem will be solved uniquely according to everybodys specialization.

Budget

The approach fronted by this paper mainly involved non-monetary commitment to the management of the employees. The key here is, understanding the needs of the employees which more often than not are not money related.

Sound management of interclean sales staff will lead to a high satisfaction of the workforce hence high retention levels. Apart from education ventures the employees will take, the monetary commitment for the department will be very minimal.

Conclusion

The career management plan will ensure long-term stay for the employees of Interclean hence saving on costs and time during the period.

Career Planning: Path to an Insured Future

Introduction

This report aims to map out my strategic plans for my future basing from the tests I had undergone over the past weeks. This is a literature containing my personal analysis and reflections on my personality results, skills and weaknesses, and employability. I will also be discussing my plans for the future and detail steps on how I do about in shaping my career as a business woman in the insurance industry.

Initial Reflections

I had always wanted to be part of the insurance industry because I want to follow in the footsteps of my father. I had always looked up to my father and how he ran our insurance company. It was in him that I found the inspiration to be involved with insurance.

Upon my knowledge of the course and the activities, I needed to go through to determine my career path I found it irrelevant because I am already knowledgeable of what I want to do.

Through continuous participation in the exercises especially on answering tests questions I had slowly shifted my view and found the activities significant because it helped me know myself better in terms of personality, strengths, weaknesses and my tendencies that I wasnt aware of before taking the tests.

Employability Skills

Basing my first test, I would rate myself as someone who would fit working in teams. Indeed, I am a harmonizer, someone who loves working with other people, enjoys creating relationships and abhors being isolated. I work best with teams and as an individual I am very strict when it comes to work.

I am very organized, efficient in solving practical issues and I always like to get things done right away (Type Dynamics Indicator, 2011 p. 3). Employers would love to have me in their sales team because I am very dynamic and proactive.

In getting a job I believe people should be personally engaging to impress with their future employers. Connecting is a key in job interviews especially since the interviewers would like to know who you truly are thus with my outgoing nature I am very confident that employers would be impress.

Personality Type and Future Career Plans

As someone who wants to work in the insurance industry, I believe that with my personal qualities and philosophy towards work I am very suitable in the sales department of insurance agencies. I am a very sociable person thus I have the ability to connect with people and this may increase the worth of my client base and network.

My work ethics is very strict and well organize and I have the ability to come up with logical solutions for practical problems. According to Success Magazine, key qualities of a great success person are: they must be driven, confident, outgoing, assertive, funny, structured, rational and focused (Success Magazine, 2011).

Basing from the test results, I got from the workshop I am qualified contender of being a great and successful sales person. To be a part of the insurance industry is my goal.

Over the years, I had enrolled myself in business school to know more on how to run a company and I had found out one of the basic skills I needed to run a successful insurance company is mastering the art of sales and marketing. I had learned these two aspects but I have decided to focus on income generation which is sales.

Personal Strength and Weaknesses

Basing on the employability skills exercise and the Employability Development Profile (Learning Style Inventory 2011, p.6-7) my strengths include working with real issues, converting ideas into actions, grasping basic issues and seeing their practical implications, being involved and interacting with others, grasping the facts, handling the detail and engaging in practical activities and giving or responding to clear instructions and structure.

While my weaknesses according to the report which I agree are: I do not see the value in abstract ideas, I am having a difficult time being innovative and considering alternatives before moving into action, it is a challenge for me to deal with ambiguity and incomplete information, working and studying on my own is something I detest and I have to work harder on suspending my judgements.

According to the results, I always get criticised for attending to the obvious and missing the whole idea, concluding before all the information is obtained and known, trying things out too soon, not listening, I become frustrated with slow pacing, having pre-conceived ideas and being very impatient.

Career Anchor

Career anchors are peoples self concept mostly composing of their awareness of their own talents and skills, basic values and insight of their own motives and needs pertaining to careers (Schein, 1985).

Among Edgar Scheins eight themes that show peoples prioritized preferences (Schein, 2006), I believe that my primary theme is being a manager, not just to get more money but also I like to solve practical problems and deal with people in general. I thrive on the responsibility of supervising groups of individuals.

Amidst all this, I want to be successful thus I know the importance of emotional competence in my career thats why I want to be able to follow in my fathers footsteps in running his insurance company. To be his successor is my pride.

Career Interests

According to psychologist John Holland the choice of a vocation is an expression of personality.(Holland,1973) Hollands research shows that personalities seek out and flourish in career environments they fit and that jobs and career environments are classified by the personalities that flourish in them according to the Committee on Scientific Awards (American Psychological Association, 2008).

Basing from test results, as a harmonizer I would fit in the following occupations; administrators, beauticians, hairdressers, child care, clerical staff, community service workers, health service, home economist, nursing, office managers, quality managers, religious occupations, retail sales and service, school teachers, secretarial and PA roles and speech therapy.

Analysing the ideal jobs in store for me I see myself fit in my choice of being in sales for insurance companies and eventually being a manager of that company. My career interest in sales and the insurance industry is in line with my personality of being a sociable person who likes to work in a structured environment.

Career Motivations and Drivers

From the exercise, I am considered an activator.

This is the type of person who wants learning to have some practical application, prefers subjects that require a commonsense and matter of fact approach, wants action, realism and does not want change for change sake, enjoys organizing facts, situations and people, creates order and efficiency and delivers results, dislikes woolly thinking and procrastination, attends to immediate and practical issues and details and learns best from direct experience and practice (Learning Styles Inventory, 2011).

As a classified activator with the given personality my career motivations and drivers include: being able to interact with people and create relationships at the same time being successful in business by closing deals and sales with new associates, being able to attain a managerial position eventually in my career because it is a symbol of success for me and also I get to be part of my staffs lives especially in problem solving and career development, and lastly I am motivated to attain emotional competence so I can relate to peoples needs and be able to assist and help them.

I want to be a part of my fathers insurance company and become his successor eventually.

My Career and Life Goals

As a girl, I had always admired and looked up in my father. He had provided our family with everything we need especially in giving me a good life. I wanted to be like him and provide for my family. Upon growing up, I have decided to enrol myself in business school with the hopes of following in my fathers footsteps and being the successor of his insurance company.

I had planned out my career path for quite some time now. Since I want to be part of the insurance industry and I want to run my fathers company in the future I am aware that I need to learn the basic skills of sales and marketing and eventually people management.

While currently studying in the university, I have actively engaged myself in seminars and courses where it may hone my skills in business namely sales, marketing and administrative management. I want to experience working for other insurance companies so I can learn new ideas for the improvement of my future company.

I believe that experience is a key to any success and it is also a good teacher especially in the business world where you need sharp skills in crisis management and problem solving.

Potential Career Opportunities

Potential careers for me are to be in sales or marketing in an insurance company. Although, I prefer to start with sales first so I would develop my network of contacts at the beginning of my career at the same time learn the most important part of running a business, which is making a profit. My plan is to hone my skills and be a competent graduate student.

I want to attract companies to hire me so during the summer I will be working as a sales associate of an insurance firm. Currently, I am applying for a position in one of the top insurance firms in the industry. Also, I am always looking for classes and/or seminars to improve my skills in sales promotions, marketing, and research to for my further personal growth.

I personally believe by being involve in my desired field I will be able to learn more especially the strategies needed in the success of my chosen industry which is insurances.

Short term classes and seminars conducted for the enhancement of skills can also contribute to my success in my chosen career path and also because of these self development tools I will be able to contribute to the success of the companies I will be working with in the future.

Recruitment Process of Selected Occupation

The processes in which I will be accepted in my desired job which is being a sales representative for an insurance firm are as follows:

  1. Submission of CV or curriculum vitae.
  2. Company Human Resource (HR) Department will sift through applicants and qualified ones will be scheduled for initial interview and testing.
  3. The first interview step is applicants will be required to take logic and personality tests followed by the initial interview with the hiring staff.
  4. Once the applicant had passed the first interview she will be qualified for the second interview with the Sales Supervisor.
  5. The second interview will be with the Sales Supervisor to whom the applicant will be reporting directly to if she gets the job.
  6. Upon passing the second interview the applicant be schedule for a third interview with the General Manager or the owner if the owner likes the applicant the HR department will process the needed documentation and contracts.
  7. The applicant is hired and she will start her job with an orientation and trainings.

Awareness of Graduate on the Labour Market

The insurance industry in china has grown rapidly in China with yearly life insurance payments increasing from 10 billion US dollars in 1999 to 46 billion US dollars in 2006. In 2007 the growth of the industry was evident in the 100 insurance companies present in China.

From January to May 2007, insurance assets in China reached to RMB 450 billion and at present the total capital of the whole Chinese insurance industry has exceeded RMB 200 billion which is 5.6 times bigger than that of the year 2002(Caijing Magazine, 2011). With the rapid growth of insurance companies in China, this expansion would attribute to the workforce needed by these companies.

They would be needed sales agents to find clients for them. Currently the company I am applying in is China Ping An Insurance Group Limited which is based in Shenzhen Shekou China. They are looking for sales staff with an educational background above high school level.

Experience wise they are not very particular as long as the applicant is honest, trustworthy and is aggressive with strong communication skills. They are also looking for someone who can go through difficulties and seek out challenges.

Occupational Area Selected

Since I was a child, I have always considered my father as a role model. He owns and runs an insurance company and I have seen how much he has helped our family by providing us with a good life and also he has given great service to other people through his insurances.

As a young girl, I had always dreamed of becoming just like him, to be able to provide my family the best life through my occupation at the same time help people with insurances so that when they are in trouble and have problems coming up with the money for hospital bills, road accidents and even during death of a love one insurances will be there to save the day because the industry help people save for bad raining days.

How I had decided on becoming and being part of the industry comes to no surprise for me. My personality is very sociable at the same time I like working in a structured environment. I like talking and helping people at the same time I am very strict with myself in terms of finishing my work.

Being in the insurance industry is ideal for me because I can interact with people, sell them insurances to help them save and at the same time I can meet my companys needed sales and quotas because I am very strict and organize.

Action Plan (3 5 years)

Goals play an important role in the success of every individual who aspires to attain greatness. Goals have the ability to function as a self-regulatory mechanism that acquires an employee a certain amount of guidance. (Shalley,1995, p. 483-503).

On the other hand, Locke and Latham can influence individuals performances because they focus the attention of people towards goal-relevant activities, they serve as energizers, promotes persistent and activate cognitive knowledge and strategies (Lathham and Locke 2002, p. 705-717). I have drafted out my 3 to 5 year goals using the SMART framework:

Goal: To be an insurance business expert by acquiring strategic knowledge in providing the best quality packages and services to clients (2020)
Be mentored by the best insurance legends Work in an insurance firm to attain experience
Ma Mingzhe, Chairman of China Ping An Insurance Group Gao Guofu, Chairman of China Pacific Insurance Company China Pacific Insurance Company China Ping An Insurance Group

To fulfil my goal to be successful in the Chinese insurance industry, I must work hard to be the best in my field. My goal is to become an insurance industry business expert by 2020. By that time I see myself as someone who knows the ins and outs of the industry and also I will be one of the most influential figures in my business.

I want to serve as an inspiration to all with my knowledge in problem solving and creating strategies to further improve the industry. I have concluded that in order for me to become an expert I have to be mentored by the experts in the industry so I will know how they think and act.

I have chosen industry legends Ma Mingzhe the chairman of China Ping An Insurance Group and Gao Guofu chairman of China Pacific Insurance Company to be my mentors. In order for me to be their apprentice I must work hard to be part of their companies and excel.

I believe that with knowledge and experience I will acquire in my exposure of being part of the best insurance companies in China, I will be able to help my father improve his own insurance company and also be one of the leading companies in the industry.

Summary and Conclusion

This report presents my map of the future. It serves as a guide for me and my tutors to know my career path and how I will shape my future. According to tests results, I am an activator and a harmonizer with personal characteristics of being spontaneous, sociable and practical. The tests are accurate in measuring my personality and characteristics (Profiling for Success, 2011).

They also predicted my strengths and weaknesses and also the things that motivate me to work. I want to be part of the insurance industry like my father. I had planned to be the best in my field thus I had created a plan that I will work for other top companies in China to gain experience and learning.

At school, I continuously improve my sales and marketing skills by attending seminars on personal development and taking up business courses that will help in my future. Currently, I am applying for a sales associate position in one of the top insurance companies in China for my summer job. I hope to get in and learn more about the industry.

Marketing and Career Opportunity Impact

Impact of marketing on the business world

One could hardly deny the great role business plays in the modern world. Its rapid evolution and the increased revenues contributed to the alteration of the approaches used to organize the functioning of a certain company and strategies explored by it. Therefore, the evolution of business also triggered the rise of marketing that could be considered the main factor that preconditioned the way the modern business world develops (Define Marketing and discuss the Importance in the modern world? par. 3). At the moment, marketing professionals contribute to the organization of various aspects of any companys functioning greatly. They create a strategy that determines the main activities of a company, its priorities, and its target audience (Wagner par.5). Additionally, a team of marketing professionals analyzes the market to understand the most important features and peculiarities (True Essence of Marketing in the Modern World par. 7).

The data obtained from this analysis impacts the functioning of other departments of the company as they should work in a way that could help to evolve and meet the existing demands. Yet, one should realize the fact that any company is not able to survive without marketing people as they are responsible for the creation of strategies that will bring benefits. In this regard, it is possible to predict the further evolution of the given science as it helps companies to acquire a competitive advantage and evolve. The data provided by a marketing team is crucial as it helps to create a unique strategy. Furthermore, at the moment, the level of the interest to the given phenomenon is high as people recognize the unique significance and advantages that could be acquired from the adherence to the basic ideas outlined by marketing people. Altogether, the functioning of any company depends on the given field of science greatly as it helps organizations to evolve.

Career opportunity in marketing

As stated above, the sphere of marketing is very popular nowadays. Having recognized the unique importance of the given field, people obviously want to work in it as the high demand guarantees stable salaries and the appearance of numerous job opportunities (Young par. 5). However, a person who decides to become a marketing specialist should be ready to bear numerous responsibilities (Marketing: Why is it Important? par. 6). For instance, the choice of the appropriate strategy might contribute to a companys rise, and on the contrary, in case the suggested set of actions is inefficient, a company will obviously collapse. However, the career in marketing could still be considered attractive as it provides numerous opportunities for personal and professional development. Moreover, the tendency towards the appearance of new opportunities and high salaries also condition the attractiveness of the given field. That is why it could be considered a good choice for a person who wants to become successful.

However, when cogitating about my own future as a marketing professional, I should say that there are several spheres that I consider appropriate. Yet, I think that the auto industry could provide numerous opportunities for my professional development. The tendency towards the improvement of peoples well-being conditions the growth of the number of cars that will be needed to satisfy customers demands. Besides, there are many rivals who want to conquer the given market. That is why there is a great need for a qualified specialist who will be able to create the appropriate strategy and guarantee that a company will acquire a certain competitive advantage (Wiessberg par. 5). I think the tasks of this sort could help me to become a good specialist.
