Background
Threaded discussion is a major component of this course. Words are powerful. Be mindful that both the written word and the spoken word can have a positive or negative impact on a reader or listener. As such, address all posts with civility and professionalism. The Civility section of the Course Outline below will be strictly enforced.
It is especially crucial in an academic setting to contribute to discussions in a collegial manner and support your posts with relevant cites to the textbook. This manner of communication is vastly different from social media postings of opinion-based rhetoric.
Please use classmates’ names in your posts when responding to them. For highest performance and points, submit your initial post early enough in the week to allow for maximum exchange. Then, respond to two or more students with two or more additional posts on two or more different days to see the progression of the discussion throughout the week.
Discussion Boards (DB) Posting Requirements:
Participation requirements for graded discussions are the same for all 4 weeks:
Each week, for full credit, you must make at least 3 posts per discussion question according to the following process:
-(Required) Post a response to the original question (please do so no later than Wednesday so that others may realize the benefit of your comments).
-(Required) Post a minimum of 2 responses to a classmate’s response (by the end of the week).
-(Optional) Additional posts and days of participation are not required but are certainly welcome.
Notes and Suggestions:
-Please support your posts with citations to the textbook. Personal experiences that are relevant and on-point are also encouraged and valued in follow-up posts after your initial post.
-Please use classmates’ names and note discussion topic in your posts when responding.
-Respond early in the week to generate a collaborative experience.
Instructions
1. Discuss the Collective Bargaining Agreement process in a Unionized workplace. Include in your discussion the impact of CBA negotiations on the workforce. (Worth 5 points.)
In each additional post, respond in a substantive manner to your classmates’ posts. You may share personal experiences that are relevant and on-point.

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): A hierarchical decomposition of the total scope of work to be carried out by the project team
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): A hierarchical decomposition of the total scope of work to be carried out by the project team to accomplish the project objectives and create the required deliverables.
According to the PMBOK® Guide, “The WBS organizes and defines the total scope of the project and represents the work specified in the current approved project scope statement. The planned work is contained within the lowest level of WBS components, which are called work packages. A work package can be used to group the activities where work is scheduled and estimated, monitored, and controlled. In the context of the WBS, work refers to work products or deliverables that are the result of activity and not to the activity itself.”
Project Management Institute, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide) – Sixth Edition, Project Management Institute Inc., 2017, Page 157.
The WBS is used to create the project schedule based on the activities needed to complete the work of the project.
Based on the selected project of interest create a WBS. Among other things, be sure to:
Identify and analyze the project deliverables
Develop the structure and organize the WBS
Decompose the upper WBS levels into detailed components
Determine identification codes for the WBS components
Verify the degree of decomposition is appropriate

BUSINESS ETHICS: ETHICAL DECISION MAKING & CASES
O. C. Ferrell; John Fraedrich; Linda Ferrell
This case highlights the Volkswagen (VW) emissions scandal, a case so notorious because the German-owned, global company purposefully deceived government officials. In 2017, VW had to plead guilty to three criminal felony charges that included defrauding the U.S. government, violating environmental regulations, obstructing justice, engaging in wire fraud, and violating import regulations. VW agreed to pay $2.8 billion in criminal charges, but this is only a small portion of the total costs VW will have to pay to resolve the issue.
You will find the Cases section towards the end of your textbook. Look for Case 1 – The Volkswagen Scandal: An Admission to Emission Fraud.

Context: Our world is experiencing a flood of remarkable, life-altering technologies that are currently on the edge of introduction into the world’s marketplace! Because of their “newness,” these types of technologies are sometimes described as existing on the “bleeding edge,” not just the “leading edge.” During your MBA 621 course, you have been continually scanning periodicals, newspapers, websites, databases, and online and traditional video and audio sources, to identify these forthcoming technologies.
Major Project – Executive Briefs
Students will write ten (10) executive briefs (in one Microsoft Word document) reviewing the technology ideas posted by their classmates in the Dialogue Forums for Period 1 and Period 2.
An executive brief is a concise document designed to provide high-level information to senior executives, managers, or stakeholders. It is a clear and concise document that summarizes an issue and provides recipients with an overview of important issues or events.
It’s important to keep an executive brief concise, focused, and tailored to the needs of the audience. Executives often have limited time, so the brief should be easy to digest while still providing the necessary information for informed decision-making.
Your executive brief paper reviewing your classmate’s technology ideas shall be no longer than two (2) pages per technology reviewed (20 pages total), inclusive of text and citations. A comprehensive yet concise executive brief should require at least two hours of student preparation.
Executive Brief Format
Each technology review will use the content headings listed below and will be completed in this format for each two-page executive brief.
Title
Technology Description
Commercial Uses – The executive briefs should consider at least five (5) separate creative commercial uses for the forthcoming technology.
Benefits & Hazards – The executive brief should include a critical analysis of the technology’s benefits and hazards to prospective users and/or customers.
Diffusion & Adoption – What are the possible differences in dissemination and adoption of the specific technology in various areas of the world?
Financial Implications – Develop an in-depth discussion of the financial implications for businesses using the technology.
Outcomes – What are the probable effects (positive and negative) on the related technologies and the marketplace?
Ethical Considerations – List the ethical dilemmas posed by the new technology.
Development Decisions – What criteria should be used to decide whether the technology should be developed.
Timeline – Identify the anticipated timeline for its proposed introduction.
Recommendations – Your recommendation(s) regarding the value of developing and launching the technology.

Evaluation Method: See SBL Grading Rubric. Each posting of a technology idea will be worth five (5) points, and each executive brief for the technology idea of a classmate will be worth five (5) points.
