The articles chosen for this course focus on the standards and topics covered in this course. Briefly summarize the article
and critique it (i.e., synthesize the important constructs and ideas, objectively analyze the article, and evaluate its
contribution to teaching and learning). A sample will be provided. Refer to the rubric before you begin writing. Use
articles between the years 2010 & 2020.
Please use APA style. Use standard 1 inch margins and double spacing. Typically, in APA style, you would include a
reference list at the end of your report. However, since your report will be referencing only one source, the format will
be different. At the top of the first page of your report, write the name of the journal you will critique, include the
following format, with appropriate indentations and punctuation: Example below
Smith, D.E., & Jones, S. P. (1998). The effectiveness of behavioral interventions in general
education classroom settings: A summary of the research. Journal of Applied
Behavioral Analysis, 29, 16-34.
Note: Only the first word in the title and subtitle are capitalized all others are lower case, this is a common mistake,
don’t make it. Then list the journal name, volume number, and page numbers.
Papers should be 2-3 pages, though this may vary depending upon the length of the article. Write in the past tense, as
in: Smith & Jones (1998) asserted that… Keep quotes to a minimum and paraphrase the important constructs (e.g., put
the main ideas in your own words). Whenever you do quote, use quotation marks and, at the end of the quote, cite
the author, copyright date, and page number, such as the following: “It is very important to identify the antecedents
and consequences of target behaviors” (Smith & Jones, 1998, p.52). If you are summarizing the information and
authors thoughts in the paragraph but not quoting directly, reference the author at the end of the paragraph (Smith &
Jones, 1998).

Outline a proposed philosophical paradigm that might form the basis of your methodology.

In 400 words, outline a proposed philosophical paradigm that might form the basis of your methodology. To help you achieve this, identify what the dominant philosophical paradigm is in your topic area. For example, is it positivist that uses mainly quantitative, statistical, and mathematical research methods? Or constructionist/interpretivist that uses mainly qualitative research methods that rely on words and meanings rather than quants? Think about whether you might decide to follow the dominant paradigm which suggests continuity and consistency, or whether you might want to choose an alternative paradigm that challenges the dominant perspective. Explain why you wish to make this choice.

OVERVIEW
Liberal Arts Education has a long history from classical antiquity to the present. With the 19th-
century advent of universities offering academic majors and minors, the concept of general
education has emerged. Higher education leaders need to be familiar with these forms of
education and how they continue to evolve. These leaders also need to understand how various
forms of learning experiences can allow students to demonstrate that they have successfully
achieved liberal arts and general education learning outcomes as well as outcomes within a
specific discipline. Higher education leaders also need to weigh the extent to which they will
require their faculty to assess these types of outcomes.
INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, compose a paper with the following:
1. Analyze liberal arts education and general education and how the emergence of academic
majors and minors in the United States since the early 19th century has impacted these
two forms of education. Include an analysis of how general education fits into a liberal
arts education.
2. Appraise how the learning experiences of assignments, activities, and tasks are each used
differently to demonstrate achievement of course-level student learning outcomes.
3. Justify the extent to which faculty should be involved in general education assessment
and their own department/disciplinary assessment.
Ensure details and examples are provided throughout your paper.
