The Most Important Day of My Life: Personal Narrative Essay

It was early morning on December 16, 2016. I could barely open my eyes due to the sleepless night I had spent wondering if everything was ready for my big day and pondering all the details I needed to take care of. I called my wedding planner several times to double-check every single detail. I got out of bed, trying to walk through my room, it was crowded because my sisters were sleeping with me for the last time. They were exhausted because they had arrived in Maracaibo, Venezuela, just the night before from the United States. I decided to take a long shower to calm my nerves, and standing under the water, I suddenly decided that I could not worry anymore. I needed to relax and be happy.

The last couple of months before the wedding were very stressful. Thinking about every single detail was exhausting. I wanted my wedding to be perfect. I was only twenty-four years old, but I knew that I could handle that responsibility. I had worked so hard, waking up early in the mornings and spending long nights figuring out every detail with my wedding planner, my mom, and my future husband. The day before the wedding, I felt exhausted and cried for no reason.

After I finished my shower, I heard the doorbell and then the voice of my future husband, talking to my mom about some details of the wedding. I began to get ready to spend the rest of the morning with my sisters at the spa. They did not feel quite well, both felt sick to their stomachs. I remembered telling myself, ‘They have absorbed all my stress because I feel so relieved and peaceful now’. After they felt better, we headed over to the spa that was in the Intercontinental Hotel, where the reception would also take place. I was treated like a queen at the spa. I remember the hot water in the jacuzzi, and I remember tasting a sweet mimosa and thinking how lucky I was. I also remember how my muscles stretched and my entire body lost tension and stress as I had a massage from a miracle hand.

When I arrived at the hotel room, everything was in place. My mom had my dress, my makeup, my shoes, a lot of flowers, and a couple of mimosas on the table. After lunch, around 4:00 p.m., my hairdresser arrived. He was an old friend of mine whom I could trust to arrange my hair for such an important event. While he was doing his job, my makeup artist did magic with my face while we were talking and laughing about memories from our childhood and how incredible it was that my little sister was taking care of me on my big day. I heard a knock on the door. It was a messenger with a little bag in his hands from my future husband. When I opened the bag, it was a gorgeous bracelet with a key charm and a note that said, ‘Here, I give you the key of my heart, love you so much, babe’. I was so happy and excited about it that I immediately texted him to let him know how much I love him.

I was ready around 7:00 p.m. My dad was waiting in the lobby to take me to the church. I remember my dad’s face as I was walking through the lobby. He looked happy, although he had tears in his eyes. He took my hand and said: “I love you so much. I wish you the best in the world, my dear”. We talked about everything and nothing on our way to the church. Once we arrived, I was nervous for the first time that day, but I also felt excited and happy. It was a beautiful night. The sky was covered with shiny stars. The front of the church looked grand, and the lights guided my entrance. When the main entrance opened, I heard the church choir playing the wedding march. My eyes filled with tears, and I grasped my dad’s arm and started the walk with him by my side. My heart was pounding, my hands sweating, and my legs shaking as everybody looked at me and smiled. As I walked, I focused on the man waiting for me at the end of the path, the man I had chosen to spend the rest of my life with. The ceremony was full of emotions and great moments, but the most memorable part for me was when I finally could say ‘I do’ with God as my witness. At that moment, my heart and soul committed to a life of happiness, joy, and love.

I had walked into the church at 8:00 p.m. with my dad, and I walked out at 9:00 p.m. with my husband. It was time to celebrate so we headed over to the hotel where everything was ready for a big party. Everything was perfect and dreamy that night, we had a lot of fun with family and friends. The food and drinks were delicious. We also had several music groups, including ‘gaitas’, traditional Venezuelan folk music from Zulia. The party ended at 5:00 a.m. on December 17. My dream had come true. All the stress, tears, and effort paid off.

That day I learned a very valuable lesson. When you want something, you must work hard for it. When the moment finally comes, relax and enjoy it, because if you worked hard, everything will take its place and usually will flow as you dreamed and planned. I believe I now know how to control my anxiety and stress during important times. I can use that adrenaline in my favor and channel all that energy to reach the final goal.

My Memorable Wedding Experience: Personal Narrative Essay

One of the most memorable days I have ever experienced was my mum and stepdad’s wedding. They were married in Zante, a beautiful Greek island.

We had to fly over there a week before the wedding to make sure everything was ready for the big day. Over the two weeks that we were, there people were frantically coming and going, but thankfully all were there for the actual wedding. Overall, a total of fifty-three people attended the wedding: the youngest being one year old and the oldest being eighty-two years old. My mum had six bridesmaids in total, including myself. This was the second time I had ever been a bridesmaid, but it still felt just as special as the first time. I was more excited this time as I was only young for the first time. I didn’t really know what was going on, and also I did not remember much.

The feeling of being a bridesmaid is hard to describe. You feel honored and excited. The first time I was a bridesmaid was for my now stepsister, who was also one of my mum’s bridesmaids.

On the day of the wedding, I had to wake up quite early to go to the villa where some of my family was staying. The villa was breathtaking. It looked over Zante town, but you could also see the beach. The villa itself was beautiful and huge, as well as being quite traditional looking.

My mum was the last ready, and when she walked into the room, everyone fell silent. She was stunning. I looked around and I could see my gran and my mum’s aunt getting emotional. Her dress was sleeveless and tight-fitting with a flowing bottom. It also had a bit of bling all over. I had seen the dress before, but for some reason, it looked even more beautiful this day.

The whole wedding was outside in a Greek taverna in the town of Zante. The taverna was decorated with pale blue and white flowers to match the bridesmaid’s dresses, which were pale blue. Once all the guests were seated and the bridesmaids waiting outside, my mum was ready.

First to walk down the aisle were the bridesmaids. I walked in the front with my stepsister, whom I felt very close to, followed by my auntie, my mum’s best friend, and then my two cousins. We were walking to the song ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran. My mum and I chose this song a few days before the wedding. As soon as my mum and grandad started walking, all heads turned. I could feel myself starting to get a little bit emotional. The ceremony was perfect and beautiful. They were married by a Greek registrar, who had to be translated by the wedding planner.

After the ceremony, we moved to a different part of the taverna, although still outside it was more shaded, which we were all glad of as it was roasting. It felt like I was cooking in an oven. It was during the speeches that I finally started crying. I think it was seeing my grandad getting emotional that tipped me over the edge. The best man’s speech was made by my stepdad’s best friend from childhood. He managed to make his speech funny, as well as meaningful.

After the meal, there were Greek dancers. The dancers asked for volunteers to dance with them, but they definitely did not expect all 53 people to volunteer! The rest of the evening flew in, and before I knew it, we were getting on the bus to go back to the hotel. No one was ready for the night to be over, so we decided to go to another restaurant. At the end of the night, we walked back to the hotel and went straight to our beds after a tiring day. The best thing about that day was everyone being in the same place. Whenever I look back at the photos, it still makes me feel happy.

Unforgotten Family Wedding Gathering: Personal Narrative Essay

I can clearly remember that family gathering. It was an early Sunday morning in Sydney, Australia, when my family and I attended the wedding of my uncle and his bride. The streets were unusually quiet for this early in the morning.

Giggles and laughter of guests could be heard from the other end of the ballroom, which helped to create a sense of melodic music, creating a soothing and peaceful atmosphere filled with the up-most joy and happiness that this very moment should… no must bring. The sound of trumpets and saxophones all working in harmony was a delightful throwback to the 1950s. Keeping up the cheerful atmosphere while people danced in bliss. Some are more in tune with the music than others. The bride and groom both danced together, her hair was flowing like a golden river, long and slightly curly near the ends.

All unaware of the tragic events that would unfold… or at least that’s what I thought. Suddenly, the laughter died down. Any signs of thrills and enjoyment disappeared in a puff of smoke.

BOOM! The grand, marble doors were swung open with such force that it left all ears ringing due to the deafening sound. Also, leaving a lingering sense of dread and uneasiness. Click, clack! Click, clack! Click, clack! All that could be heard was the sound of high heels clicking against the flooring. No talking, nothing, just silence. All of a sudden, everyone began gossiping amongst themselves about who this mysterious woman was. All the guests looked shocked. Everyone. Everyone except the groom. He knew why she was here. He knew what he had done.

Once again, the ballroom came to a standstill. The atmosphere was now dark and gloomy. It seemed really cold in the ballroom, maybe because it was so silent. All that could be heard was breathing. The groom was visibly sweating, like he had been running. His head was shiny, eyes flickering between the bride to his mistress. All the guests stared at them in utter disgust. Disgust from having a mistress and a wife at the same time. Everything was quiet. Quiet like a library. Nobody knew what to say. We all waited silently yet patiently for someone to explain what was going on, but nothing came out.

Suddenly, the mistress speaks up, “I have been having an affair with your husband-to-be!”. Her smirk was evident in her voice. All the guests gasped and looked around the room in utter shock and devastation. Everyone was confused as to why they would do something like this. Why would he betray her trust for some other woman he most likely didn’t even know properly? I thought this was going to be a normal family gathering with all family and friends and no distractions. Well, clearly that is not the case. I never thought my own uncle could or even would betray the trust of someone he loves, but I guess I didn’t know him as well as I thought. They have been together for as long as I can remember.

My uncle and his bride were both talking quietly amongst themselves and had decided to stay together. When I heard the good news, I was overjoyed. Cheering could be heard a mile away. With a huff and a puff, the uninvited guest slowly but lazily made her way to the entrance, making sure to glance back at all of us before she left.

The ceremony went on. All the guests cheered when they were finally united as one. This family wedding gathering was definitely one to remember.

The Best Moment in My Life: Short Essay

I open my eyes. I smile. Today was going to be an incomparable day.

24th of June 2017 – The Stone Roses – Glasgow. Their last ever gig and I was going to be there, one of the most extraordinary bands in the world and I was going to see them. I was as happy as ever.

So as you do on the morning of something like this (or every day for me) I get up and I turn on my speaker, ‘Made of Stone’ one of my favourite roses tunes blares as I lay there with great contentment on my bed while the hairs on my neck stick up and my heart beats with a great force.

I sing to myself in the mirror and then I start to get ready. I brush my candy-floss-coloured hair and pick out an outfit while my brother bangs through my room wall telling me to turn my music down, which only makes me turn it up louder. I continue getting ready matching my eyes to my hair and my shoes to my jacket, everything was going perfectly. I finish getting ready and sit down with my friends just listening to music and getting excited (if it’s possible to be more excited).

It gets to about 4:00 p.m. we decide its time to head into the gig, my friends and I jump into our taxi singing away and talking to the taxi driver when we realise through all our excitement we have forgotten our tickets and have to turn back, we head back, get the tickets and go back into the station.

We then arrive at the station and the place is full of roses fans singing and laughing and clinking their drinks together at every opportunity. Everything was amazing. Absolutely everything. Even the weather, which is very rare for Glasgow.

The train comes and everyone squeezes on. The full train is just so lively and everyone is buzzing. We get off the train and follow the chanting crowd all the way to Hampden Park.

We arrive outside Hampden waiting in the queue to be allowed in, we can hear the atmosphere from outside and it is incredible, we get up to the gate and do the usual routine for a gig scan and pat, scan and pat, scan and pat. We get in and the atmosphere is even better inside. Everyone is laughing and singing with their friends enjoying this unbelievable moment.

We make our way closer to the front looking for a good spot, I felt so ecstatic. We find a good spot and dance to the music playing waiting for the support act – Primal Scream. We meet some more friends inside and the wait goes on for The Stone Roses.

The support act Primal Scream comes on and I dance away and sing along to their songs and they finally go off. All I can think about is the Roses. I can see the stage getting set up and the anticipation is getting stronger. It still feels almost like a dream, I was ready to burst with excitement.

Twenty minutes go by and then I hear the crowd getting louder chanting and cheering everywhere I looked I could just see pints, drinks, cups, people laughing with their friends, people singing and dancing to their favourite songs, people taking photos capturing this amazing day. The crowd starts to roar and everyone goes forward. I’ve never enjoyed a pint thrown over me so much in my life and then I hear it “GLASGOW” in the strong Manchester accent and everyone goes uncontrollably wild. The full place fills with the smoke from the smoke bombs of all colours, I hear the intro to ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ and my friend pulls me onto his shoulders and at that moment it is absolutely biblical. As I wave my hands through the air, the colours from the smoke bombs surround me and cling to me.

I can not describe the feeling. I could feel every vein in my body intensified. This was the best moment of my life. I couldn’t believe I was there. Me, at The Stone Roses’ last-ever gig. It was absolutely stunning.

The day turns to night and they play their last song. The sun sets just behind the stage and it looks and sounds absolutely beautiful. I still have that same smile on my face I woke up with, it’s even bigger now. They come to the front of the stage and everyone in the place is going insane. They walk off and everyone stays for a while longer just living in that moment, soaking every bit of satisfaction in, breathing every breath that little bit more grateful, heavier, happier.

I have been to many gigs in my life but nothing compares to this day, I still get that same feeling every time I hear their songs, every time someone mentions their name. I relive that moment and that day over and over again and it gets better every time.

The Most Impactful Day in the Life of My City and My Life

It was a regular Tuesday morning, I was getting ready for school, and everything felt typical to me. I was getting ready for my bus to come to pick me up and drop me off at my elementary school, P.S. 234 Independence School. I was at the start of second grade and preparing for the next year to learn. Finally, my bus came to my stop and I went to school. Everything around me was relaxing and calm when I reached my school. I remember seeing the enormous Empire State Building and the World Trade Center when we drove by. They were so big that it was like seeing two Burj Khalifas. When I reached my school, I went straight to my class and started to put away my backpack and everything. At 8:30 the bell rang, and we all sat down at our desks and started to do the daily bell ringers as a class

My teacher, Mrs. Jones, was explaining how to do long addition when we all heard a loud “Bang!”, and we were shocked in what it was. My teacher went to go look outside and see what happened, but didn’t tell us was she saw. We were all confused in what was that sound we heard that was loud as a lightning storm. We all thought that it was construction, but we didn’t realize that it was more than that. Around fifteen minutes later I heard the same sound, but much louder. At this point, I knew something happened this time, but didn’t know what. All of our teachers looked scared. For the first time, they looked like they didn’t know what to do. All of our teachers were telling us to calm down and go with her to evacuate immediately to a safe place. We went outside and saw all of the smoke in the air and we were confused about what just happened. It smelt like I was in a kitchen with burnt food in the oven. I heard my teachers talking and I heard the words ‘attack’ and ‘Trade Center’. The first thing that popped into my head was the monster from Monsters Inc.

I saw tons of cop cars that day coming to our school and was confused about why they came to our school. We were sent home, and while going home, I saw many people scared and shocked while I was on the bus happy. When I reached my home on the other side of the city it felt like any other day. So, after I ate, I went to go play because I had nothing else to do. Also, my parents were scared when I came home, and when I asked them why all they did was hug me. I was so confused when they did that, but didn’t know that they were caring about my safety and health.

After they hugged me, I just went back to playing with my toys and trying to look for things to play with. While I was playing with my toys, I heard my parents watching the news about the attack. But when I asked them what’s wrong, all they said was that “Nothing happened, go play with your toys”. While they said that, I looked at their facial impressions and saw something indeed happened, but I didn’t know where or what. Later that day, my parents got a call from the school board that our school is on a ‘break’ for two weeks until everything returns to normal because of the attack. In my mind, I just thought that it was a free 2-week vacation like we do for fall break or Christmas break, but I later learned it was out of caution. When the 2 weeks were finished, we didn’t go back to my original school, but we went to another school on the other side of town for safety reason.

On my first day there, I felt weird, sad, and lonely because there was no one at this school that I knew. All of my other friends got relocated to another school because of a random list. When I walked into class, everyone looked at me differently. I wondered if there was something wrong with my appearance. Maybe my shirt was on backward or my hair was sticking up. It wasn’t until later I realized why I was suddenly the focus of so many stares. People looked at me and my skin and thought I was somehow a part of what had happened.

Everything just felt weird around me, like it felt like I was an alien to my school or anywhere I went. The fear that swept over the country also affected my dad’s business. It wasn’t that he did anything–it was just because of his skin color. He never mistreated his customers in any way but in return, he got bad treatment from his customers just because of his skin color. After the attack, the whole Muslim and Hindu religions were impacted a lot just because of a terrorist group. Everyone was very fast to judge everyone’s character or who they are without even knowing them or where they are from. I lived in NYC for another 2 years until my family finally decided to move to the south. When I moved to the south, the people were the same as the north. Everyone in the south had a certain image in their mind of what it meant to be a Hindu or a Muslim. They were not ready to change that image. It was easier for them to blame an entire group of people.

What I learned when I lived in NYC is still very impactful to my life because that was the first time I saw something or experienced so deadly. Even though I wasn’t there for the initial incident, I went back and visited the aftermath about two to three weeks after the attack. I still saw what happened to my city and how people treated the members of my race just because of one occurrence. I didn’t even feel like I was American when that happened because everyone just treated me another way than they used to before. When I look back at that day, I have mixed emotions of what happened and why I did certain things.

Some things I wish the US would’ve done something different than what they did. I wished they had better airport security and did not attack Iraq right after the incident. Now I am older and have the knowledge to analyze that day, I wished that I would’ve been older so I would have the emotion to grieve that situation and would have known how to take in what happened. After hearing all of those conspiracy theories, I feel like that no one should make those assumptions without being there. Even though I was too young to know what happened, I still had an idea of how bad it was. Seeing all of those depressed faces and the damage it did to my city, it did not feel like it could’ve been staged by the government. September 11, 2001, was the most impactful day of my life and the life of my city – I will never forget what happened to me and my city.
