Critical Art History and Modern Art Literature: General Overview

The global modern art introduces to the readers about the artists, art movements, debates, and theoretic positions that have shaped contemporary art and the modern era worldwide. It does bring together critical art history and modern art literature. The history of modern art has been repositioned and connected with global art history. Elaine O’Brien is the writer of the Modern Art in Africa, Asia, and Latin America: An Introduction to Global Modernism. The author’s current research project is to put the art produced between the 1960s and 1970s in the society of that era. The political revolution is in the global and local context from modern to postmodern. The position of modern artists is unique and complex. The situation and strategy politics of each artist throughout his life have also influenced the global modernism. For example, the avant-garde modernism mentioned in the article, the avant-garde attitude unites modernist artists. Most of the artists shown in this article have been accepted as members of the avant-garde formally invented by art history. Their art has contemporary and abstract elements, but it may not be accepted by the public at that time. ‘For avant-garde modernism, the new, as in ‘the tradition of the new’ and ‘the shock of the new’, refers to the nearly endless individual variations of a fusion culture created by artists consciously engaged in one way or another with The conditions of modernity that shaped each of their lives differently.’ The definition of the avant-garde, guard, or new avant-garde art in the past and present may be redefined. As time goes by, artists in the 21st century can bring people to a better future through attitudes and possibilities.

In 1943, Joaquín Torres García proposed a plan for global modernism to remap modern art. Then he said: ‘I have said School of the South: because, in fact, our North looks South. For us there must be a North, expect in opposition to the South… This correction was necessary; because it we know where we are.’ Joaqun Torres-Garcá is a famous Uruguayan modernist and he has a popular and meaningful illustration about South America which is called the ‘Inverted Map’ (or Upside-down map, 1943). This may be the first such map to appear, so this illustration has become the core of Latin America’s history of efforts to revitalize the world. Torres-Garcá placed the South Pole on top of the earth, thereby implying a visual confirmation of the importance of the African continent and attempting to propose a pure revision of the world. The map conveys important details, such as the basic direction of the south, the latitude, and the equator of Montevideo. As stated in the map, modern art comes from the ‘South’, and we need to re-examine to see the world with a new perspective. The Southern Cone is upside down, and people see the map of South America in a completely new way. Different visions may provide people with different ways of thinking, thereby creating new things. The artist created this map in this spirit, which made him one of the most symbolic images of Latin American modernism.

In the summer and autumn of 1952, Francis Bacon painted a series of six small portrait heads. The works I selected this time are also from this series. I strongly like Bacon’s artistic style, which is why I chose this work for a further research. Head I is the first of the six portraits included in Bacon’s first exhibition in London at Erica Brausen’s Hanover Gallery, 1949. The artist often uses white lines to create a box or internal frame in the composition, this is the characteristic of his work. As seen in the picture below (Head I), Bacon restores the human form to a roaring mouth with fangs. Here I understand it as a rant about society and life, he is expressing his emotions through these paintings. The thick sebum produces a texture comparable to rhino skin, or, as the critic Robert Melville wrote at the time, it has the ‘colour of wet, black snakes lightly powdered with dust.’ Moreover, the more valuable work Bacon has is philosophical. He accepted Aristotle’s ideas and advocated the use of empirical and inductive methods, that is, the scientific method, which is the basis of modern scientific inquiry. Today, Bacon is still widely regarded as a major figure in scientific methodology and natural philosophy during the British Renaissance. He advocated an organized system for acquiring knowledge with humanitarian goals as his aims. Therefore, he ushered in the new modern era of human understanding to a large extent, and they are closely related to O’Brien’s idea she mentioned in Global Modernism.

Opinion Essay on Importance of NATO in 21st Century

An international organisation is an organisation founded by treaties controlled by international laws and owning its legal personality. John McCormick defines it as “a body that promotes voluntary cooperation and coordination between or among its members.”

Member nations decide how the organisation is managed, cast votes within it, and finance it. The first attempt to create an international organization occurred in 1814 with the Congress of Vienna. To protect the deliberations of Vienna a kind of directory of the great powers was established which can be considered as the predecessor of the future and more complete international organisation of a universal nature.

Their aims and objectives are very often in the public interest, but they can also be created for a specific purpose. International organisations develop mainly from the need of nations and governments to have a neutral forum where they debate and consider interests, which by their nature or extent do not find effective protection at the level of the individual state, encouraging these to cooperate. These interests can be understood as international public goods: international peace and security, environmental protection, international trade, etc. Historically, many international organizations also developed because of the need for an executive or constrictive entity that could manage supranational interests in a unified form. International organisations describe and define their aims in their statutes or other founding documents: they exist with a special statute and have several objectives, including, but not limited to, increasing international relations, promoting education, health care, economic development, environmental protection, human rights, humanitarian efforts, intercultural contacts and conflict resolution.

The biggest, most powerful and most important international organisation in the world is the UN, which stands for United Nations.

This organisations was created after the Second World War and has the aim of preventing future conflicts, maintaining international peace and security, establish good ties between states, promote worldwide collaboration, and serve as a focal point for coordinating national efforts. The official start date of the organization is 24 October 1945 with the participation of 50 states until it will reach 193 in 2011. The United Nations is financed through voluntary contributions from member states

Another important international organisation is NATO, which stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, and is an international organisation for defence cooperation. The North Atlantic Treaty got signed on 4th April 1949 and entered into force on the 24th August of that same year and it had the aim to provide security to its members from the Sovietic Union’s threats. NATO is essentially an alliance in which the Member States commit themselves into working together to peacefully resolve international crises and, in case diplomacy fail, contribute with soldiers and resources to undertake military missions to resolve any threats. The NATO summit body is the Atlantic Council which can meet at the level of Permanent Representatives of the Member States, of Ministers (meetings of Foreign and Defence Ministers are held periodically) and of Heads of State and Government. Then there is the Military Committee, formed by the Chiefs of Defence of the member countries, which assists the Atlantic Council and puts into practice its decisions in the military field. Every state has to have agreed to every decision taken. The current Secretary General is the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg.

Since the disappearance of the USSR, the overall strategic framework has undergone profound changes, to which NATO has gradually adapted, between safeguarding the original collective defence mission and acquiring new functions, related to the appearance of threats or security risks to its members other than traditional types.

NATO has some strength points that make it still relevant in the 21st Century.

One of NATO’s key achievements has been the maintenance of a robust military cooperation between the United States and Western Europe. As a result, the United States is less likely to become conservative, risking European security.

It is offering security assurances to new democracies by spreading into Eastern Europe, decreasing the likelihood of a Russian ‘divide and conquer’ approach.

It promotes peace by persuading Russia to refrain from endangering Western interests.

It’s new task force is really good at adapting in emergencies.

It recognises the multi-directional nature of threats to Western interests and the need to show a unified front in the face of emerging threats like Islamist terrorism.

As it has strength points, it also has its weakness. For example, with its expansion, NATO will now have to provide security for all the 29 member state, especially those that are closer to the influence of Russia. Some members’ allegiance, such as Turkey and Hungary, to peacekeeping has been doubted.

There are a lot of conflicting opinions about NATO’s relevance in the 21st Century.

Alexander Vershbow, a notable member at the Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security has stated during a discussion:’NATO remains essential to deter Russian aggression, which is a real threat. It’s also a standing coalition of like-minded democracies that the United States can still call upon to defend shared interests and project stability beyond NATO’s borders’. John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago has instead said: ‘I don’t dislike NATO, but we live in a completely different world. For most of my life, Europe was the most important area of the world. That’s no longer the case. The distribution of power has changed. Asia is the area that really matters the most to the United States today. The question is, what can Europe do? What can NATO do? My argument is it can do hardly anything. We have to wake up and smell the coffee.’

In my opinion NATO could still be relevant in the 21st Century and in the years that has to come. If NATO cedes to exists, Russia could take advantage of the situations and attack all the countries nearby. NATO might not be as efficient and relevant as before but I do believe it is still essential.

Climate Change as One of The Biggest Global Health Threats in 21st Century

Have you ever wondered if climate change was really a problem? Climate change is change in global or regional climate patterns, attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced using fossil fuels. Climate change has been described as one of the biggest global health threats in this 21st century.

To begin with, Rapid increase of temperature just last year nearly 38.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide was pumped into the air from all worlds nations combined. Global carbon dioxide emissions increased at a rate of more than two percent per year, due to the rapidly industrializing countries like China and India. The planet’s average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century. .Sixteen of the seventeen warmest years in the 136-year record all have occurred since 2001, except for 1998. The year 2016 ranks as the warmest on record. Rapidly changing climate is making agriculture an even more vulnerable enterprise. With changes in rainfall patterns, farmers face dual threats from flooding and drought, both extremes can destroy crops.

For these reasons and more Extreme Events like Heat waves occur. Trends has continued in 2011 and 2012, with the number of intense heat waves being almost triple the long-term average. Analyses show that human-induced climate change has generally increased the probability of heat waves. High temperatures lead to increased rates of evaporation, including loss of moisture through plant leaves which causes droughts. Many locations in Texas and Oklahoma have experienced more than 100 days over 100°F. Also there has been substantial increase in Atlantic hurricane activity since early 1980. The increase in activity is linked, to higher sea surface temperatures in the region that Atlantic hurricanes form in and move through.

Lastly Sea level Rise, When water heats up it expands, and takes up more space. Half of the past century’s sea level rise is attributable to warmer oceans taking up space. Glaciers and polar ice caps naturally melt back every summer and in winter the snow is supposed to balance out the melting. Higher temperatures caused by global warming have led to greater-than-average summer melting. Increased heat is causing the massive ice sheets that cover Greenland and Antarctica to melt at an accelerated pace. Every year more sheets of ice are melting and it will contribute to drastic sea level rise in the future.

In Conclusion, Climate change has been described as one of the biggest global health threats in this 21st century. Overall, I think agriculture, extreme weather events and sea level rise will mostly affect humans on earth greatly and jeopardize our way of living .Without the superpowers of the world coming together on an agreement to stop the burning of fossil fuels and changing to renewable energy we won’t solve this inevitable problem!

The Reasons of Obesity in the Modern World

In the 21st century, we can see lots of change in the human body as it evolves mentally as well as physically. Our body is the most important asset of our life so we should keep our body clean and fit because the main problems or diseases we are facing these days are related to our body. The most common problem faced by Generation Z is Obesity means the accumulation fat of the human body which is beyond the limit of the normal body and consists of major health problem. The Body Mass Index (BMI) a screening tool which is used to check obese of the body by using weight (kg) and height (m). People who are obese or having their BMI greater than 25 have a higher chance of getting health disease. Obesity is a chronic disease which spread all over the world especially among youngster. “The epidemic is fueled by the growing rate of obesity in adolescents of 17%.

Organization (WHO) estimates that, in the year 2010, overweight and obesity caused 3.4 million deaths (5 %) and resulted in 3.9 % of YLL and 3.8 % of disability-adjusted life years (DALY) worldwide. No country in the world reduced the prevalence of obesity-related disease between 2000 and 2013. Obesity ranks third in social burdens created by human beings after smoking and armed violence” (Blackstone 7). The rise in obesity is due to the reductions in physical activity and changes in nutritional practices. Our life is now surrounded by the comfort which is leading us toward the unhealthy lifestyle and making us into couch potatoes. All these reasons for obesity are not making the appearance of our body looks bad but internally it is causing so many diseases, which is only happening due to the unhealthy lifestyle. To conquer this difficulty, we should know the causes of obesity: Physical inactivity, Unhealthy eating lifestyle and phycological or medical factors.

The human body requires a properly balanced diet to stay fit and healthy. The rise of junk food among children rises at a frequent rate. It is an emerging trend which leads to health problems as obesity. “The children risk of developing taste for fast food from their early life and they become addictive because it seems attractive and delicious to them while they don’t know about the negative impact on their health. Children keep feeding on processed food and rapidly grow a taste for fried foods, snacks and sugary drinks or beverages. They seem to have lost the instinct to consume fruits, vegetables and meats in the unprocessed form. A study published in the journal of American dietetic association shows that 800 of 2000 calories intake by a typical child daily are attributable to added sugar and solid fats.

The macronutrients are often referred to as “empty calories” since they have scanty nutrients but contribute significantly to the childhood obesity problem. It is now known that children who early in develop taste for junk food run a greater risk of developing weight problem as they grow (Pugmire, & Lynos, 533-546). However, junk or fast food which only contain lots of carbohydrate and non-essential fats which can give instant energy for a while, the nutrition value of this kind of food have least protein and minerals, all it contains is fast digestion carbohydrate and fats which is the cause of building fats in the body. When you eat carbohydrate, the excess carbs stored in your body in form fat “Studies have shown that sugary drinks are associated with lower diet quality or a less healthful diet. High sugary drinks consumption is often associated with lower milk intake and is also related to inadequate intake of vitamins and other nutrients such as folate and magnesium” (Libuda et al.2).

The consumption of sugary drinks or beverages takes more time to burn off the calories as its totally unhealthy and should be replaced with some diary. While, obesity doesn’t cause overnight and eliminating processed food doesn’t give any result because these foods only stimulate the habit formation in brain or addiction which result in craving. The main reason for the cause of obesity is the overeating and unhealthy eating habits of a person not the junk food and beverages.

Significance of the Outsiders as a Form of YAL in the 21st Century

Everyone cherishes a decent ‘rumble’. The Outsiders highlights fascinating characters; just as thoughtful characters. Before the end of the novel readers even feel frustrated about the genuine ‘jerks’ in the novel, similar to Dallas. The novel is a The book investigates the need that adolescents feel to be acknowledged by somebody. Adolescents are at a phase in their lives where a significant number of them feel that they don’t know who they are or how they fit into society.

They regularly feel that a great part of the world is against them. This novel takes a gander at these sentiments; it makes as much sense to read it now as it did when it originally came out. The Outsiders caught, as though in golden, the continuous battle at the core of the juvenile experience – realizing that the manner in which things stand isn’t right, however being unsure about how to fix it, and baffled with more older grown-ups for progressing forward. The contrasts between the Greasers and the Socs have to do with wealth (money), yet behind them, Ponyboy acknowledges, they are not so different, if only they could make sense of that. (The Outsiders, Chapter 3)

Susan E. Hinton’s The Outsiders keeps on being relevant in the 21st century to some degree in view of its group related subjects. Teen-gangs were still in vogue when the story happens in the mid-1960s, however, gang-action declined radically for a while, short after. With the ascent of gangs amid the 1990s forward; present day understudies can just observe once again, a connection between the Greasers, Socs and the undeniably progressively more violent gangs of today. The ‘tell-it-like-it-is’ approach by Hinton still leaves a lot of readers and writers in awe. The ‘genuineness’ of the novels’ content, activities, qualities, etc. makes the novel relatable until this day and age. The Outsiders keeps on being a touchstone for grown-ups who were brought into the world long after Hinton’s graduation from secondary school. For evidence, simply take a gander at the long tail of the expression “Stay gold, Ponyboy.” (The Outsiders, Chapter 9)

In The Outsiders, those are simply the diminishing expressions of Greaser Johnny Cade, itself a half-recalled quote from the Robert Frost poem ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay.’ In 2017, ‘Stay Gold’ is an expression you can discover embellished on everything from shirts to toss cushions. It’s the title of a whole collection by Swedish people team First Aid Kit and a melody by Run the Jewels. In spite of the fact that the time of the Socs and Greasers has long past, the immature dynamic Hinton got on stays, despite the fact that the name of the groups changes. (Why ‘The Outsiders’ Still Matters 50 Years Later, Online) I would state that the motivation behind why the book is perused today, is on the grounds that Hinton inspired an emotional response of adolescence that reverberates with all of the youth.

Being uprooted from the social setting, ousted or unequipped for completely submerging oneself in their family settings, and discovering solidarity with different youngsters are subjects that appear to be all around engaging to all teenagers. The moments in which the characters must characterise themselves and their personalities, adjust themselves to what they accept is correct, and continually fight others’ view of them make the work something to his association with youthful readers. While a portion of the language and settings may be bolted into the timeframe, the general comprehensiveness of the characters, their inspirations and dilemmas, and the idea of how social requests are organised will dependably talk boisterously to youths and permit the book to be perused by future ages of both ‘Socs’ and ‘Greasers.

Students with Disabilities Must Not Be Left Behind in the Challenges of the 21st Century: Persuasive Speech

Imagine yourself in the middle of the war having no armor and weapons to protect yourself. Your state of being while you imagine yourself in that situation will be our state if we are not fully armored with skills and knowledge in facing the challenges that 21st century brought to us. In a real war proper weapons must be used, but what proper weapons are we going to use in the challenges we are facing right now in 21st century? In a real war all people play an important role, no exception happened, but in facing challenges brought by the 21st century are we all equipped? Do we need to have exception to happened? Do we need to let students with disabilities left behind?

We are now in the 21st century facing different challenges brought by the advancement of technology, a war to be considered, so to better prepare ourselves with it, we need to be equipped with an armor and weapons and that is the 21st century skills. For the teachers, they can help the students applied what they learn in real life problems and develop the essential skills needed for them to be prepared in those challenges. According to Educational Leadership (as cited in Oliver, 2016), “A growing number of business leaders, politicians, and educators are united around the idea that students need ‘21st century skills’ to be successful today”. It is also supported by the report of National Education Association (2015), which found that what was considered a good education in the past years ago is no longer enough for the success in college, career and citizenship in the 21st century. So indeed, in our changing world today we need to also change our ways and our strategies to help us battle for those challenges brought by the changes we all experienced right now.

In the past years learning ‘3Rs’ (reading, writing, and arithmetic) is already enough, but today if we want to help our society, we must be good communicators, creative, critical thinkers, and have collaboration (4Cs). Those skills will help us find opportunities and make possible solutions to any problems we are all going to encounter in the future. Learning 21st century skills does not only apply in regular students, but also for those students with disabilities. Inclusive education plays an important role on it, where it will act as a platform to every student with or without disabilities to enhance their skills. We can’t just leave them behind the war of 21st century. Each student will be offered more opportunities, where in students with disabilities will be look for what abilities they have, and not on what disabilities they have. The National Center for Learning Disabilities (2019) believes that if we neglect to provide students with disabilities the 21st century skills and dispositions, it will further widen the opportunity gap for these students. Let them have the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge. Let them feel that they have important roles to play in our community, that they are valued and appreciated. Aside from that they should be prepared to face the realities, the challenges and the possibilities that the future will going throw at them.

Education should be a place where it will be more about encouraging student to do real and meaningful work that matters in our community. In the school, they tend to let the students do their projects and other activities, showing it only on the eyes of our teachers and doing it only for grade requirements. But if the students at early age are already engaged in doing some of the school’s activities or projects for our community, then people in our community can see their work and see the students’ potential skills to help the community. Students will see the truth about the community’s problems, develop their initiative to help the community and know how to deals on the realities they will all going to face. Through that school and community will have collaboration.

All students with or without disabilities must have awareness on their skills and to the competences that our community in 21st century looks for, it will help them prepare on the challenges that they’ll going to face outside the premises of the school. We must open our eyes, heart and mind that students with disabilities are also part in our community and they all have something to offer to help our community. The 21st century skills have 4Cs to offer to us as the main skills in learning to deals with the innovation in the 21st century. These skills can be practice in the hand of our education system. Therefore, students, teachers, school and community must work side by side, because this will be our weapon to face the challenges of the 21st century.

Importance of Education in the 21st Century: Essay

In the 21st century, education is becoming a necessity for everyone ever than before. In short, no one could survive in the future without proper education. As it develops the main foundation of an individual, it is extremely important to educate kids from their childhood. If we look closely at life, what we are doing every day is educating ourselves with something new. It could be the development of some set of skills or gaining knowledge about a specific subject area. A child’s education journey starts just after birth and it continues until his or her last breath. Literary, we could say that it is a non-stop process, which adds more value to our lives day by day. If an individual learns something new right now today, it would be a benefit for him or her for their lifetime, as the things we learn through the education process would not fade away from us at any time, and there is only progress in it.

Almost every country in this world right now uses a standard education system to teach people and make them ready to face the world as better citizens. This system widens the knowledge of an average individual from a low level to a high level. Therefore, they gain the ability to recognize the good and bad separately. As I see, this is one of the important advantages of the education system. Because when a person is aware of his or her background scenarios, they start to grow their skills, personality, knowledge, beliefs, and so on very easily.

In the 21st century, education plays a major role in the job market. Education shows us the importance of hard work and makes us get a well-paid job using skill sets that we have learned through the education system. Sometimes, even though people are educated, most of them are not quite sure about the real implementation behind it. As I see it, the primary goal of being educated now is to be prepared for the challenges. Sometimes, an individual who is more educated than the average person is likely to fail to face the difficult challenges in his or her life. Human good willingness, talent, or energy is being lost, especially when it comes to industry level and starts to work. That means it is important to know the correct way to use the knowledge we gained from the education system. Therefore, overall, an educated human can become a successful person only by learning to implement what he learned throughout his life.

Some of the jobs that exist today in the job market did not exist 30 years ago, and some of the jobs that will exist 30 years from now may not even be imaginable right now. Therefore, as an educated generation, we should encourage our children to focus on how to learn something rather than what to learn. Teaching students to ask questions and think critically and open-mindedly is far more important than ever before. I believe that a child’s education should be a self-discovery journey. Because that is where a child truly learns how to implement what he learned and face day-to-day challenges. Therefore, the children will be preparing to face the constant changes happening in the world. Even if the situations are worse, with an educated mind, children would be able to find the right path to a successful life. Nowadays, most parents force their children to learn what parents like and not what they like. This leads the future generation to stick to the same educational level, which their parents had, and it does not allow them to think beyond their limits.

In the early days, people were used to studying by going to schools or universities and taking classes. But, with the advancement of technology, education has reached the extra mile, while being more accessible to people ever than before. This is a good sign and soon we all could see a world full of educated people.

Overall, it is of utmost worth in this 21st-century world to give kids a chance to be educated no matter their race, gender, or wealth. Then, they will get access to hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of opportunities, and we could see a better world, which has been built with educated minds all over the world.
