Psychology is a very complicated and competing subject that dwells upon the possibilities of human mind and other related aspects. There are a lot of different theories in psychology which are not related to each other. Dwelling upon the idea of Carl Jung, it is important to state that his analytic theory and ideas related to human mind are different to those developed by such famous psychologists as Freud or Ericson, however, it does not mean that his ideas are wrong.
Carl Jung manages to provide some evidence and support to his theories, even though it is obvious that many respected psychologists disagree. It is always possible either to support or to contradict the psychological theory as the field is not discussed up to the end. Carl Jung is sure that human mind develops during the whole life and does not stop in the childhood as Freud believes.
His eight personality types are really important as they allow to look critically at other psychological theories which exist in the modern world. Moreover, it is possible to reference to the assessment instrument where Jang’s functions of thinking, feeling, intuiting, and sensing are considered. Finally, one of the most important issues discussed in Jung’s theory and which is referred to self-realization covers all aspects of human personality including limitations (Funder, & Ozer, 2010).
Trying to specify some of the ideas presented by Carl Jung and discussed above, the idea of consciousness evolution should be considered. Jung is sure that human conscious developed through the life and does not stop at childhood. Moreover, Jung is sure that consciousness developed greatly from childhood to elderly age, therefore, it is possible to conclude that people remain at the development stage, that is why they are unable to use the whole potential of their mind.
Being less developed in the past, people will be able to use their psychological potential fuller in the future. The evolution of consciousness is based on the idea that as everything except consciousness can be explained by the Darwin theory, therefore, it is possible to find the evidence that Darwin theory may affect consciousness (Lawson, 2008).
It is essential to mention that disagreeing with Freud in relation to his consciousness theory, Carl Jung also contradicts his dream theory, “the sexual images which for Freud are the not very interesting end of the matter may be – as Jung suggests – only themselves the beginning, leading to further meaning for which they themselves are the symbolic language” (Jung, 2001, p. 22).
The contribution of Carl Jung into the psychological development is his desire to widen the perception of this science and to make people think another way. He tried to find anther approach for discussing psychology in order to make sure that all the angles are considered.
Reading the case studies where Carl Jung’s ideas are depicted, it is possible to enumerate a number of personal examples which support his ideas and beliefs. As it has already been mentioned, Jung offered four types of psychology, sensation and intuition (perceiving) and thinking and feeling (judging). Considering the example of Bob presented in the case study, the intuition and sensation are to be referred to (Funder, & Ozer, 2010).
All people have intuition and sensation, however, some of them managed to develop this feeling others just refuse to believe in it. There are a lot of different examples when people feel uncomfortable and later they find out that something has happened. There are many people like Bob, however, their possibilities are not trusted by skeptics. Moreover, almost all people are able to remember the case when they knew something before it happened, they may either have a feeling or another reflection of intuition or sensation.
The second case discussed in Funder and Ozer (2010) is devoted to Carl Jung’s judgment theory. Using the example of Mark, a firefighter, Jung tries to explain that human perception of some aspects is usually based on their feelings not on conscious or unconscious judgments. Mark is sure that his job satisfies him because he feels goof from what he does, however, the reasonable thinking may cause him refuse from it as it is a really dangerous occupation.
There are many cases when people are sure that the tasks they perform should not bring satisfaction due to logical issues, however, the feelings are absolutely different. This is exactly what Carl Jung wants to deliver to the humanity. Mind and psychology are developing and the issues which are considered as crazy and impossible for understanding for some people are absolutely normal for others.
This is not the consideration of the human level of education, this is the ability to look at the situation from another angle, the one which is possible for those who managed to evolve and for those who have not. Jung is sure that educated and non educated people, employed and unemployed, children and adults have absolutely different ways of judging, therefore, their minds appear at different level of evolution even though they are able to understand most of the issues in this life that points to the close stage of psychological development.
