The Capitalism: A Love Story movie is a story about the price the Americans had to pay for their unquenchable love of capitalism. The impact of their capitalist endeavors is clearly shown in the film. The film is accompanied with humor without losing its grip on the question on the impact of capitalism on the American people. The story is about how capitalism affected the American family setup changing the lives of many Americans. We see the tremendous fall-out in families as love between spouses goes astray. There is betrayal, abuse, lies and financial constraints that contribute to the falling of the family love.
The film also gives an answer to the problems being faced by the American people by showing what a more hopeful future would look like. Michael Moore who is the maker of this film has given an insightful expedition searching for the beginning of greed in the Roman Empire. His comparison revolves around the uncompetitive era before the war against the Germans and Japan. Being a documentary film, it focuses on the financial crises that hit the American economy and the world at large in the late 2000s.
The film also places an indictment on the present economic strategy in the United States and capitalism. The major conspicuous topics in the movie include the casino mentality in Wall Street, prisons turning into profit making institutions, the low wage-pay for workers hence poverty, the collapse of the mortgage market and influx cash flow, and the impact of the runaway greed on the American population. Goldman Sachs influence has also been captured with regard to Washington, D. C.
And interesting turn of Moores ideology is his vetting of whether capitalism can be classified as a sin and if Jesus was a capitalist. He adds an interesting focus on the American most popular religion, Christianity. However, this is not a serious portion of the plot, but a hilarious segment to create humor. Moore compares greatly the present day America to the Roman Empire as the film begins by showing how families were evicted from their homes. He shows the people who benefited from these evictions by alluding to the Condo Vultures real estate company that greatly benefited from the escalating foreclosure.
Moore interviews religious leaders who deemed capitalism to be an evil ideology. He presents the real issue that led to the housing mortgage collapse by exploring the involvement of the U.S. treasury and Alan Greenspan. He exposes the political elites that were the beneficiaries of the mortgage plans by receiving low mortgage rates. This film has outlined the major effects of capitalist approach on the American people, the American economy and the entire world as well since the economic collapse in 2008/09 affected almost the entire world.
Characterized by humor and historic indictments that have led to the present economic and social conditions in the United States, this film is an interesting piece of art that takes the viewer back through the wheels of history. It provides a perfect platform for the viewer to reflect and judge accordingly in regard to capitalism. The impact of capitalism is clearly mapped out, but Moore has maintained a balanced argument on whether capitalism is good or bad. Nonetheless, it is important to point out that in the midst all this crises, the middle class are the major victims
