Being one of the possible responses to managing severe health issues in patients, bone-marrow-derived cells need to be seen as potential change agents. The article by Taj et al. (2019) proves that the use of bone-marrow-derived cells can prevent cases of pregnancy failure and loss in mice, thus positing that it has the potential to be used in women as well. Despite requiring further studies that will allow confirming the latter assumption, the article by Taj et al. (2019) represents high-quality research and proves an exciting hypothesis.

The study shows that, in the course of pregnancy, bone marrow cells were regularly directed to the uterus and the area of implantation, thus serving as the support system. Remarkably, even the mice that had deficiencies in their womb still managed to get pregnant with the help of the Hoxa11 protein, which has been shown to drop in women that had pregnancy issues and had the propensity toward pregnancy loss (Taj et al., 2019).

According to the results of the research, the mice that lacked the Hoxa11 protein still managed to get pregnant and bear a fetus after being introduced to Hoxa11 (Taj et al., 2019). Additionally, the research has shown that in mice with Hoxa11 deficiency, the cases of pregnancy loss were avoided successfully due to the effective transplantation of the bone marrow, which has also been supported by other studies (Brown et al., 2019).

Although the paper by Taj et al. (2019) will need further analysis to confirm the hypothesis regarding the use of bone-marrow-derived cells in women as the method of addressing possible pregnancy failures, the article makes a legitimate point as the authors represent unique research. Therefore, the impact of bone-marrow-derived cells as the source of decidual cells that affect the development of the fetus has to be scrutinized further.
