First, highlighting the problems of the black population is necessary to cope with negative stereotypes and phenomena in society. To do this, it is necessary to include black queer and transgender people in the movement for black lives. Ways of implementation of solving these issues are mentioning such personalities in literature and on television, as well as by involving them in social activities. The most common reason for the oppression of queer individuals is the lack of public awareness about them, which leads to a negative perception of the phenomenon as vulgar and depraved. Concern for queer people here is expressed in equalizing them with the rest of society and in destroying stereotypes and prejudices about LGBT culture.
I believe that regardless of profession, every specialist should insist on an alliance with black queers. However, the most effective alliance can be formed with journalists since such specialists have access to the media. Thus, this alliance will bring visible results the fact that more and more information will begin to appear in the form of articles, interviews, and videos about the life of minorities. After all, each of us can insist on the humanity of black queer people in our jobs by wearing the trappings of this movement. In addition, it is necessary to talk about this so that the topic does not become taboo.
It is common for black queer people to be abused and bullied. Two examples must be given to illustrate injustice and oppression. 32-year-old black gay Mark Carson was killed by 33-year-old Eliot Morales (Lartey, 2016). Morales was arrested and charged with hate-motivated murder. Mark Carson was a conscientious citizen who had never been involved in any scandal before. The only reason he died was because of his sexual orientation. Another example is the case of the murder of black trans-woman Nireah Johnson. She was a 17-year-old African American trans-woman who was murdered along with her friend Brandi Coleman (Justia, 2022). She was an ordinary girl trying to have a relationship and was never involved in conflicts. The killer was sexually attracted to Johnson but then discovered she was transgender, so he burned her car while she was inside with Coleman.
Blockorama is, first of all, a great sign of respect and attention to black queer people on behalf of the city of Toronto. Blockorama was created in 1999 by black queer activists Jamie Zuberi, Angela Robertson, Camilla Orridge, Junior David Harrison and Douglas Stewart (Blockorama, 2022). These individuals were active in the womens, anti-racist, and broader LGBT movements in Toronto. This place is the pride and location for self-expression of the black queer diaspora. It was necessary to create Blockorama because the main purpose of this is to provide assistance and support to individuals who are struggling with social prejudice. Communing queer people makes it easier for them to cope with the difficulties that society creates. In addition, thanks to unity, such individuals show their performances to society, which is normal.
LGBT people may face discrimination that limits access to stable and decent housing or complicate their search for housing in states or localities with strong legal protections. These cracks in the LGBT foundation can hinder economic well-being, mental, and physical health, education, and more. Based on this negative aspect, the public is designing homes that bring queer living standards closer to normal by providing access to housing, education and work. In addition, there is a positive family dynamic, as homes make queer people less lonely. In addition, such experience proves to society that sexual orientation and self-determination do not negatively affect family values. This leads to normal relationships between parents and queer children and also increases the number of open, same-sex marriages.
One of the most important elements of queer life is the Kiki scene. The fact is that the vast majority of unaccepted LGBT teenagers end up destitute, either on the street or subjected to bullying. In order to avoid marginalization and or suicide, people go to this institution. In the face of these challenges, members of the Kiki scene turn to each other for support, creating a surrogate family structure that promises radical acceptance (Matthes & Salzman, 2019). This helps people find themselves, define themselves in life and become full-fledged elements of society.
