Australia’s University Industries has become the third most popular global student destination for students who want to study their secondary and tertiary education. With 39 comprehensive Australian Universities and over 1200 CRIOS registered institutions, the industry attracts close to one million international students annually (Australian Government, 2022). Seven of its universities are ranked in the QS world university’s top 100 list, which shows that the industry provides high-quality education (Australian Government, 2022). Additionally, the industry has some of the best research and development facilities, enabling it to compete effectively with the best universities in the world. The government support and other non-governmental organizations have given Australian Universities over 9000 partnerships which help in enhancing academic research and development (Australian Government, 2022). The industry has employed over 13,000 people and created a revenue of USD 1.6 billion (Australian Government, 2022). It is also important to note that Australian universities are the second on impacting the UN sustainable development goals. It implies that they have significantly impacted the whole global society at large.

Australian University-Industry faces stiff competition from other countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. The US has over 30 universities in the QS ranking system based on accessibility, economy, flagship, and system strengths (Dicker, 2019). The United Kingdom also poses a significant threat to Australian University Industries because it has 18 Universities in the top 100 world institutions (Dicker, 2019). Germany being the third competitor has only four universities in the top 100; however, the fee system in Germany makes it a competitive country. The Government abolished university fees, making their institutions more accessible and providing an opportunity for all their citizens to study (Dicker, 2019). However, Australian Universities Industries have gained a competitive advantage in research and development.

Australian Universities Industries offers a wide range of highly relevant products to the job market. They emerged in the 2021 QS ranking as top ten in eleven different fields of study, including mining engineering, earth sciences, politics, marine science, law, and philosophy (Australian Government, 2022). The Universities have proved to be among the best in clinical medicine, physics, computer science, and space science. They host some of the leading research hubs, which allow students to publish and share their research with the world. There are over 31,000 courses that are taught in Australian Universities, which shows that they have a large portfolio of products to offer the consumers (Australian Government, 2022). Due to the country’s attractive visa policies and welcoming culture have seen many students, especially from Asian countries. Out of the 800,000 international students in 2020, 90% were from Asian countries (Statista, 2022). This shows that the industry has significantly attracted the Asian market. Australian Universities Industries also offers online learning opportunities for students far away. This also enables their universities to be accessible and available for a wide range of students.

The Australian Universities Industry is distributed across the country; however, it is more concentrated on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Most universities are on the country’s western shores, mainly in Queensland and New South Wales (Collier, 2021). Western Australia seems to be abandoned by most universities because it only has one major university called the University of Notre Dame Australia (Lawe, 2021). Since most Western Australia is a desert, most entrepreneurs including those in the University Industries avoid it, which is why the region is sparsely populated (Lawe, 2021). Western Australia is also less developed than East Australia, making East Australia a more favorable destination for universities.
