This assignment will require outside research within the GCU library. Your plan will assess the experiences of these people, you will apply social psychology concepts, and will present strategies in your plan for creating awareness and support for this group.
Instructions
First, choose one group of people who have experienced or are currently experiencing prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination. Some examples of groups of people to create your advocacy plan for may include: a specific ethnic or racial group, a gender group, LGBTQIA+, religious groups, those experiencing physical or cognitive disability, the elderly (ageism). The goal of your plan is to increase awareness of the experiences and support for this group. Examples of plans could include designing:

Next, you will write a 750-1,000-word essay explaining your plan. The aim is to create a plan that will help empower and advocate for this group. In your essay, you should do the following:
Provide a 150-200-word description of the plan. What type of program are you designing? What are the logistics of the program or plan (what services or publication will be delivered and how)? Who are the people who will most benefit from your plan, and how will they benefit? What is the main goal of your program/plan?
Distinguish between the concepts of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Describe each concept and explain examples of how your chosen group experiences each of these. How will your plan help alter stereotyping and prejudice or prevent discrimination from occurring?
In what ways are the stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination against this group reinforced by society or culture? In what way can your plan help address this at a social or cultural level? How will your plan reach society as a whole or a variety of groups?
Now, think about not only your chosen group of focus, but society as a whole. What do you think the cause(s) of prejudicial attitudes and discriminatory behaviors are? What role does society, the individual, and culture play in perpetuating these attitudes? How does GCU’s Statement on Christianity, Race and Ethnicity actively fight against prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination?
