Art embodies a wide range of activities such as sculpting, architecture, painting, and photography. It has been a part of humanity and has existed for a long time, even during medieval times. Art is an essential part of life; paintings reflect what people experience in different situations. Images portray emotions and feelings, such as love and anger. This essay compares two painters who use the same scene to illustrate the violence and empowerment of women.

Artemisia’s and Caravaggio’s artworks are quite similar in various aspects. The material used to create paintings in both artworks is oil. Also, the pieces of art reveal the execution of a man by a woman using a dagger. Besides, the killing occurs in a dark environment, as represented in the pictures. Caravaggio’s and Artemisia’s artworks also have visible differences in how the paintings are displayed. Caravaggio’s artwork depicts Judith killing a man as an older woman is watching. The artwork shows a clear view of how Judith expressed a calm mood regardless of her killing a man. Artemisia’s painting also depicts Judith communicating her emotions of anger through her facial expressions. The physical contact between Judith and the man shows her passion for terminating the life of a person.

In summary, in both art pieces, the man’s facial expressions imply that he is begging for mercy. There is no display of empathy by Judith in both artworks. Also, paintings communicate messages, which are essential and should be emulated. I prefer the second piece of art by Artemisia as it displays the perfect flow of emotions that have been intersected with relatable moods through the picture form. It conveys ruthlessness and lack of compassion as the woman seem to end the man’s life using a dagger. The artwork clearly shows the pain in the ladies through their facial expressions.
